88. 0  
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
88. 1  
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming ?
- Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyati (Ⅰ)
- Has the story reached you, of the overwhelming? (Ⅱ)
- Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ (Ⅳ)
- Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? (Ⅵ)
88. 2  
On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
- Wujoohun yawmaithin khashiAAatun (Ⅰ)
- Some faces on that day shall be humbled, (Ⅱ)
- Faces on that day humbled, (Ⅲ)
- وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, (Ⅵ)
88. 3  
Toiling, weary,
- AAamilatun nasibatun (Ⅰ)
- Toiling, weary, (Ⅱ)
- labouring, toilworn, (Ⅲ)
- عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Labouring (hard), weary,- (Ⅵ)
88. 4  
Scorched by burning fire,
- Tasla naran hamiyatan (Ⅰ)
- While they broil upon a burning Fire; (Ⅱ)
- roasting at a scorching fire, (Ⅲ)
- تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً (Ⅳ)
- The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- (Ⅵ)
88. 5  
Drinking from a boiling spring,
- Tusqa min AAaynin aniyatin (Ⅰ)
- While they drink from a boiling spring! (Ⅱ)
- watered at a boiling fountain, (Ⅲ)
- تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, (Ⅵ)
88. 6  
No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
- Laysa lahum taAAamun illa min dareeAAin (Ⅰ)
- No food shall they have save from the bitter Dhari, (Ⅱ)
- no food for them but cactus thorn (Ⅲ)
- لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ (Ⅳ)
- No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari´ (Ⅵ)
88. 7  
Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
- La yusminu wala yughnee min jooAAin (Ⅰ)
- Which shall not nourish nor avail against hunger! (Ⅱ)
- unfattening, unappeasing hunger. (Ⅲ)
- لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ (Ⅳ)
- Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. (Ⅵ)
88. 8  
In that day other faces will be calm,
- Wujoohun yawmaithin naAAimatun (Ⅰ)
- Other faces on that day shall be joyful, (Ⅱ)
- Faces on that day jocund, (Ⅲ)
- وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, (Ⅵ)
88. 9  
Glad for their effort past,
- LisaAAyiha radiyatun (Ⅰ)
- Content with their past endeavours, (Ⅱ)
- with their striving well-pleased, (Ⅲ)
- لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Pleased with their striving,- (Ⅵ)
88. 10  
In a high Garden
- Fee jannatin AAaliyatin (Ⅰ)
- In a lofty (sublime) Garden (Ⅱ)
- in a sublime Garden, (Ⅲ)
- فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- In a Garden on high, (Ⅵ)
88. 11  
Where they hear no idle speech,
- La tasmaAAu feeha laghiyatan (Ⅰ)
- Wherein they shall hear no foolish word; (Ⅱ)
- hearing there no babble; (Ⅲ)
- لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً (Ⅳ)
- Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: (Ⅵ)
88. 12  
Wherein is a gushing spring,
- Feeha AAaynun jariyatun (Ⅰ)
- Wherein is a flowing fountain; (Ⅱ)
- therein a running fountain, (Ⅲ)
- فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Therein will be a bubbling spring: (Ⅵ)
88. 13  
Wherein are couches raised
- Feeha sururun marfooAAatun (Ⅰ)
- Wherein are Thrones (of dignity) raised on high, (Ⅱ)
- therein uplifted couches (Ⅲ)
- فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, (Ⅵ)
88. 14  
And goblets set at hand
- Waakwabun mawdooAAatun (Ⅰ)
- And goblets set down ready, (Ⅱ)
- and goblets set forth (Ⅲ)
- وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Goblets placed (ready), (Ⅵ)
88. 15  
And cushions ranged
- Wanamariqu masfoofatun (Ⅰ)
- And cushions arranged, (Ⅱ)
- and cushions arrayed (Ⅲ)
- وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- And cushions set in rows, (Ⅵ)
88. 16  
And silken carpets spread.
- Wazarabiyyu mabthoothatun (Ⅰ)
- And carpets spread! (Ⅱ)
- and carpets outspread. (Ⅲ)
- وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- And rich carpets (all) spread out. (Ⅵ)
88. 17  
Will they not regard the camels, how they are created ?
- Afala yanthuroona ila alibili kayfa khuliqat (Ⅰ)
- Do they not look then at the camel, how she is created? (Ⅱ)
- What, do they not consider how the camel was created, (Ⅲ)
- أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ (Ⅳ)
- Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- (Ⅵ)
88. 18  
And the heaven, how it is raised ?
- Waila alssamai kayfa rufiAAat (Ⅰ)
- And at the heaven how it is raised high? (Ⅱ)
- how heaven was lifted up, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ (Ⅳ)
- And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- (Ⅵ)
88. 19  
And the hills, how they are set up ?
- Waila aljibali kayfa nusibat (Ⅰ)
- And at the mountains how they are set firm? (Ⅱ)
- how the mountains were hoisted, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ (Ⅳ)
- And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- (Ⅵ)
88. 20  
And the earth, how it is spread ?
- Waila alardi kayfa sutihat (Ⅰ)
- And at the earth how it is spread out? (Ⅱ)
- how the earth was outstretched? (Ⅲ)
- وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ (Ⅳ)
- And at the Earth, how it is spread out? (Ⅵ)
88. 21  
Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
- Fathakkir innama anta muthakkirun (Ⅰ)
- Therefore, remind them: for you are only one to remind; (Ⅱ)
- Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; (Ⅲ)
- فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ (Ⅳ)
- Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. (Ⅵ)
88. 22  
Thou art not at all a warder over them.
- Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytirin (Ⅰ)
- you are not in authority over them; (Ⅱ)
- thou art not charged to oversee them. (Ⅲ)
- لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ (Ⅳ)
- Thou art not one to manage (men´s) affairs. (Ⅵ)
88. 23  
But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
- Illa man tawalla wakafara (Ⅰ)
- But such as turns his back and disbelieves, (Ⅱ)
- But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ (Ⅳ)
- But if any turn away and reject Allah,- (Ⅵ)
88. 24  
Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
- FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathaba alakbara (Ⅰ)
- Him will Allah punish with the greatest torment. (Ⅱ)
- God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. (Ⅲ)
- فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ (Ⅳ)
- Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, (Ⅵ)
88. 25  
Lo! unto Us is their return
- Inna ilayna iyabahum (Ⅰ)
- Verily, unto us is their return, (Ⅱ)
- Truly, to Us is their return; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ (Ⅳ)
- For to Us will be their return; (Ⅵ)
88. 26  
And Ours their reckoning.
- Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum (Ⅰ)
- And, verily, for Us is their accounting! (Ⅱ)
- then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم (Ⅳ)
- Then it will be for Us to call them to account. (Ⅵ)
