Après cela, Jésus parcourait la Galilée, car il ne voulait pas séjourner en Judée, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir.
- After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. Or, la fête des Juifs, la fête des Tabernacles, était proche.
- Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand. (Ⅱ) - ἦν δὲ ἐγγὺς ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἡ σκηνοπηγία. (Ⅲ) - Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judæorum, Scenopegia. (Ⅳ)

Et ses frères lui dirent: Pars d'ici, et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples voient aussi les oeuvres que tu fais.
- His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. (Ⅱ) - εἶπον οὖν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ· Μετάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ὕπαγε εἰς τὴν Ἰουδαίαν, ἵνα καὶ οἱ μαθηταί σου ⸀θεωρήσουσιν ⸂σοῦ τὰ ἔργα⸃ ἃ ποιεῖς· (Ⅲ) - Dixerunt autem ad eum fratres ejus : Transi hinc, et vade in Judæam, ut et discipuli tui videant opera tua, quæ facis. Personne n'agit en secret, lorsqu'il désire paraître: si tu fais ces choses, montre-toi toi-même au monde.
- For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. (Ⅱ) - οὐδεὶς γάρ ⸂τι ἐν κρυπτῷ⸃ ποιεῖ καὶ ζητεῖ αὐτὸς ἐν παρρησίᾳ εἶναι· εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, φανέρωσον σεαυτὸν τῷ κόσμῳ. (Ⅲ) - Nemo quippe in occulto quid facit, et quærit ipse in palam esse : si hæc facis, manifesta teipsum mundo. (Ⅳ)

Jésus leur dit: Mon temps n'est pas encore venu, mais votre temps est toujours prêt.
- Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. (Ⅱ) - λέγει οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πάρεστιν, ὁ δὲ καιρὸς ὁ ὑμέτερος πάντοτέ ἐστιν ἕτοιμος. (Ⅲ) - Dicit ergo eis Jesus : Tempus meum nondum advenit : tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum. (Ⅳ)

Le monde ne peut vous haïr; moi, il me hait, parce que je rends de lui le témoignage que ses oeuvres sont mauvaises.
- The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. (Ⅱ) - οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ, ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν. (Ⅲ) - Non potest mundus odisse vos : me autem odit, quia ego testimonium perhibeo de illo quod opera ejus mala sunt. (Ⅳ)

Montez, vous, à cette fête; pour moi, je n'y monte point, parce que mon temps n'est pas encore accompli.
- Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come. (Ⅱ) - ὑμεῖς ἀνάβητε εἰς τὴν ⸀ἑορτήν· ἐγὼ ⸀οὐκ ἀναβαίνω εἰς τὴν ἑορτὴν ταύτην, ὅτι ὁ ⸂ἐμὸς καιρὸς⸃ οὔπω πεπλήρωται. (Ⅲ) - Vos ascendite ad diem festum hunc, ego autem non ascendo ad diem festum istum : quia meum tempus nondum impletum est. (Ⅳ)

Après leur avoir dit cela, il resta en Galilée.

Lorsque ses frères furent montés à la fête, il y monta aussi lui-même, non publiquement, mais comme en secret.
- But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. (Ⅱ) - Ὡς δὲ ἀνέβησαν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνέβη⸃, οὐ φανερῶς ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐν κρυπτῷ. Les Juifs le cherchaient pendant la fête, et disaient: Où est-il?
- Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? (Ⅱ) - οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ καὶ ἔλεγον· Ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος; (Ⅲ) - Judæi ergo quærebant eum in die festo, et dicebant : Ubi est ille ? (Ⅳ)

Il y avait dans la foule grande rumeur à son sujet. Les uns disaient: C'est un homme de bien. D'autres disaient: Non, il égare la multitude.
- And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. (Ⅱ) - καὶ γογγυσμὸς ⸂περὶ αὐτοῦ ἦν πολὺς⸃ ἐν τοῖς ὄχλοις· οἱ μὲν ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἀγαθός ἐστιν, ἄλλοι ⸀δὲ ἔλεγον· Οὔ, ἀλλὰ πλανᾷ τὸν ὄχλον. (Ⅲ) - Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Personne, toutefois, ne parlait librement de lui, par crainte des Juifs.

Vers le milieu de la fête, Jésus monta au temple. Et il enseignait.

Les Juifs s'étonnaient, disant: Comment connaît-il les Écritures, lui qui n'a point étudié?
- And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? (Ⅱ) - ⸂ἐθαύμαζον οὖν⸃ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες· Πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς; (Ⅲ) - Et mirabantur Judæi, dicentes : Quomodo hic litteras scit, cum non didicerit ? (Ⅳ)

Jésus leur répondit: Ma doctrine n'est pas de moi, mais de celui qui m'a envoyé.

Si quelqu'un veut faire sa volonté, il connaîtra si ma doctrine est de Dieu, ou si je parle de mon chef.
- If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (Ⅱ) - ἐάν τις θέλῃ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιεῖν, γνώσεται περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς πότερον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν ἢ ἐγὼ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ λαλῶ. (Ⅲ) - Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar. (Ⅳ)

Celui qui parle de son chef cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l'a envoyé, celui-là est vrai, et il n'y a point d'injustice en lui.
- He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. (Ⅱ) - ὁ ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ λαλῶν τὴν δόξαν τὴν ἰδίαν ζητεῖ· ὁ δὲ ζητῶν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ πέμψαντος αὐτὸν οὗτος ἀληθής ἐστιν καὶ ἀδικία ἐν αὐτῷ οὐκ ἔστιν. (Ⅲ) - Qui a semetipso loquitur, gloriam propriam quærit ; qui autem quærit gloriam ejus qui misit eum, hic verax est, et injustitia in illo non est. (Ⅳ)

Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la loi? Et nul de vous n'observe la loi. Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir?
- Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? (Ⅱ) - Οὐ Μωϋσῆς ⸀δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον. τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι; (Ⅲ) - Nonne Moyses dedit vobis legem : et nemo ex vobis facit legem ? (Ⅳ)

Jésus leur répondit: J'ai fait une oeuvre, et vous en êtes tous étonnés.

Moïse vous a donné la circoncision, -non qu'elle vienne de Moïse, car elle vient des patriarches, -et vous circoncisez un homme le jour du sabbat.
- Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. (Ⅱ) - διὰ τοῦτο Μωϋσῆς δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὴν περιτομήν— οὐχ ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ Μωϋσέως ἐστὶν ἀλλ’ ἐκ τῶν πατέρων— καὶ ἐν σαββάτῳ περιτέμνετε ἄνθρωπον. (Ⅲ) - propterea Moyses dedit vobis circumcisionem (non quia ex Moyse est, sed ex patribus), et in sabbato circumciditis hominem. (Ⅳ)

Si un homme reçoit la circoncision le jour du sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas violée, pourquoi vous irritez-vous contre moi de ce que j'ai guéri un homme tout entier le jour du sabbat?
- If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? (Ⅱ) - εἰ περιτομὴν ⸀λαμβάνει ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ; (Ⅲ) - Si circumcisionem accipit homo in sabbato, ut non solvatur lex Moysi : mihi indignamini quia totum hominem sanum feci in sabbato ? (Ⅳ)

Et voici, il parle librement, et ils ne lui disent rien! Est-ce que vraiment les chefs auraient reconnu qu'il est le Christ?
- But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν· μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ⸀ἐστιν ὁ χριστός; (Ⅲ) - et ecce palam loquitur, et nihil ei dicunt. Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus ? (Ⅳ)

Cependant celui-ci, nous savons d'où il est; mais le Christ, quand il viendra, personne ne saura d'où il est.
- Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. (Ⅱ) - ἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν· ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν. (Ⅲ) - Sed hunc scimus unde sit : Christus autem cum venerit, nemo scit unde sit. (Ⅳ)

Et Jésus, enseignant dans le temple, s'écria: Vous me connaissez, et vous savez d'où je suis! Je ne suis pas venu de moi-même: mais celui qui m'a envoyé est vrai, et vous ne le connaissez pas.
- Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. (Ⅱ) - ἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων· Κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί· καὶ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ’ ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με, ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε· (Ⅲ) - Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens : Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis : et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis. Moi, je le connais; car je viens de lui, et c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.
- But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. (Ⅱ) - ἐγὼ οἶδα αὐτόν, ὅτι παρ’ αὐτοῦ εἰμι κἀκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν. (Ⅲ) - Ego scio eum : quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit. (Ⅳ)

Ils cherchaient donc à se saisir de lui, et personne ne mit la main sur lui, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.
- Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. (Ⅱ) - ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα, ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ. (Ⅲ) - Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere : et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venerat hora ejus. (Ⅳ)

Plusieurs parmi la foule crurent en lui, et ils disaient: Le Christ, quand il viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que n'en a fait celui-ci?
- And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? (Ⅱ) - ⸂ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ⸃ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ⸀ἔλεγον· Ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ ⸀μὴ πλείονα ⸀σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν; (Ⅲ) - De turba autem multi crediderunt in eum, et dicebant : Christus cum venerit, numquid plura signa faciet quam quæ hic facit ? (Ⅳ)

Les pharisiens entendirent la foule murmurant de lui ces choses. Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens envoyèrent des huissiers pour le saisir.
- The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. (Ⅱ) - Ἤκουσαν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τοῦ ὄχλου γογγύζοντος περὶ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν ⸂οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ὑπηρέτας⸃ ἵνα πιάσωσιν αὐτόν. (Ⅲ) - Audierunt pharisæi turbam murmurantem de illo hæc : et miserunt principes et pharisæi ministros ut apprehenderent eum. (Ⅳ)

Jésus dit: Je suis encore avec vous pour un peu de temps, puis je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé.
- Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. (Ⅱ) - εἶπεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἔτι ⸂χρόνον μικρὸν⸃ μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με. (Ⅲ) - Dixit ergo eis Jesus : Adhuc modicum tempus vobiscum sum : et vado ad eum qui me misit. (Ⅳ)

Sur quoi les Juifs dirent entre eux: Où ira-t-il, que nous ne le trouvions pas? Ira-t-il parmi ceux qui sont dispersés chez les Grecs, et enseignera-t-il les Grecs?
- Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? (Ⅱ) - εἶπον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς ἑαυτούς· Ποῦ οὗτος μέλλει πορεύεσθαι ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐχ εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν; μὴ εἰς τὴν διασπορὰν τῶν Ἑλλήνων μέλλει πορεύεσθαι καὶ διδάσκειν τοὺς Ἕλληνας; (Ⅲ) - Dixerunt ergo Judæi ad semetipsos : Quo hic iturus est, quia non inveniemus eum ? numquid in dispersionem gentium iturus est, et docturus gentes ? (Ⅳ)

Que signifie cette parole qu'il a dite: Vous me chercherez et vous ne me trouverez pas, et vous ne pouvez venir où je serai?
- What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? (Ⅱ) - τίς ἐστιν ⸂ὁ λόγος οὗτος⸃ ὃν εἶπε· Ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὑρήσετέ, καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν; (Ⅲ) - quis est hic sermo, quem dixit : Quæretis me, et non invenietis : et ubi sum ego, vos non potestis venire ?\ (Ⅳ)

Le dernier jour, le grand jour de la fête, Jésus, se tenant debout, s'écria: Si quelqu'un a soif, qu'il vienne à moi, et qu'il boive.
- In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. Celui qui croit en moi, des fleuves d'eau vive couleront de son sein, comme dit l'Écriture.
- He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (Ⅱ) - ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, καθὼς εἶπεν ἡ γραφή, ποταμοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ ῥεύσουσιν ὕδατος ζῶντος. (Ⅲ) - Qui credit in me, sicut dicit Scriptura, flumina de ventre ejus fluent aquæ vivæ. (Ⅳ)

Il dit cela de l'Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui croiraient en lui; car l'Esprit n'était pas encore, parce que Jésus n'avait pas encore été glorifié.
- (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (Ⅱ) - τοῦτο δὲ εἶπεν περὶ τοῦ πνεύματος ⸀οὗ ἔμελλον λαμβάνειν οἱ ⸀πιστεύσαντες εἰς αὐτόν· οὔπω γὰρ ἦν ⸀πνεῦμα, ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ⸀οὐδέπω ἐδοξάσθη. Des gens de la foule, ayant entendu ces paroles, disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète.
- Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. (Ⅱ) - ⸂Ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου οὖν⸃ ἀκούσαντες ⸂τῶν λόγων τούτων⸃ ⸀ἔλεγον· Οὗτός ἐστιν ἀληθῶς ὁ προφήτης· (Ⅲ) - Ex illa ergo turba cum audissent hos sermones ejus, dicebant : Hic est vere propheta. (Ⅳ)

- Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? (Ⅱ) - ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός· ⸂οἱ δὲ⸃ ἔλεγον· Μὴ γὰρ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ὁ χριστὸς ἔρχεται; (Ⅲ) - Alii dicebant : Hic est Christus. Quidam autem dicebant : Numquid a Galilæa venit Christus ? (Ⅳ)

L'Écriture ne dit-elle pas que c'est de la postérité de David, et du village de Bethléhem, où était David, que le Christ doit venir?
- Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? (Ⅱ) - ⸀οὐχ ἡ γραφὴ εἶπεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος Δαυὶδ, καὶ ἀπὸ Βηθλέεμ τῆς κώμης ὅπου ἦν Δαυὶδ, ⸂ἔρχεται ὁ χριστός⸃; (Ⅲ) - nonne Scriptura dicit : Quia ex semine David, et de Bethlehem castello, ubi erat David, venit Christus ? Ainsi les huissiers retournèrent vers les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens. Et ceux-ci leur dirent: Pourquoi ne l'avez-vous pas amené?
- Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? Mais cette foule qui ne connaît pas la loi, ce sont des maudits!

Nicodème, qui était venu de nuit vers Jésus, et qui était l'un d'entre eux, leur dit:
