Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)

79.
1
By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;
- WaalnnaziAAati gharqan (Ⅰ) - I swear by (or call to witness) those who tear out to destruction, (Ⅱ) - By those who drag forth to destruction, (Ⅲ) - By those that pluck out vehemently (Ⅳ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا (Ⅴ)

|
79.

By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);
- Waalnnashitati nashtan (Ⅰ) - And by those rushing. (Ⅱ) - By the meteors rushing, (Ⅲ) - and those that draw out violently, (Ⅳ) - وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا (Ⅴ)

And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy),
- Waalssabihati sabhan (Ⅰ) - And by those who float, (Ⅱ) - By the lone stars floating, (Ⅲ) - by those that swim serenely (Ⅳ) - وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا (Ⅴ)

Then press forward as in a race,
- Faalssabiqati sabqan (Ⅰ) - Then press forward as in a race, (Ⅱ) - By the angels hastening, (Ⅲ) - and those that outstrip suddenly (Ⅳ) - فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا (Ⅴ)

Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord),
- Faalmudabbirati amran (Ⅰ) - And those who regulate affairs. (Ⅱ) - And those who govern the event, (Ⅲ) - by those that direct an affair! (Ⅳ) - فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا (Ⅴ)

79.

One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion,
- Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu (Ⅰ) - The day on which the first trump resounds (or that which can quake shall quake), (Ⅱ) - On the day when the first trump resoundeth. (Ⅲ) - Upon the day when the first blast shivers (Ⅳ) - يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ (Ⅴ)

Followed by oft-repeated (commotions):
- TatbaAAuha alrradifatu (Ⅰ) - And others follow it. (Ⅱ) - And the second followeth it, (Ⅲ) - and the second blast follows it, (Ⅳ) - تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ (Ⅴ)

Hearts that Day will be in agitation;
- Quloobun yawmaithin wajifatun (Ⅰ) - Hearts on that day shall palpitate, (Ⅱ) - On that day hearts beat painfully (Ⅲ) - hearts upon that day shall be athrob (Ⅳ) - قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ (Ⅴ)

|
79.

Cast down will be (their owners´) eyes.
- Absaruha khashiAAatun (Ⅰ) - While eyes are cast down. (Ⅱ) - While eyes are downcast (Ⅲ) - and their eyes shall be humbled. (Ⅳ) - أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ (Ⅴ)

They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state?
- Yaqooloona ainna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati (Ⅰ) - They say, "Shall we indeed be restored to our first state? (Ⅱ) - (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state (Ⅲ) - They shall say, ´What, are we being restored as we were before? (Ⅳ) - يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ (Ⅴ)

"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?"
- Aitha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan (Ⅰ) - "What! When we are rotten bones?" (Ⅱ) - Even after we are crumbled bones ? (Ⅲ) - What, when we are bones old and wasted?´ (Ⅳ) - أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً (Ⅴ)

79.

They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!"
- Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun (Ⅰ) - They said, "That then would be a return, causing loss." (Ⅱ) - They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. (Ⅲ) - They shall say, ´That then were a losing return!´ (Ⅳ) - قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ (Ⅴ)

79.

But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry,
- Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun (Ⅰ) - But it shall be only a single cry, (Ⅱ) - Surely it will need but one shout, (Ⅲ) - But it shall be only a single scare, (Ⅳ) - فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ (Ⅴ)

79.

When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment).
- Faitha hum bialssahirati (Ⅰ) - When lo! They will be fully awake. (Ⅱ) - And lo! they will be awakened. (Ⅲ) - and behold, they are awakened. (Ⅳ) - فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ (Ⅴ)

Has the story of Moses reached thee?
- Hal ataka hadeethu moosa (Ⅰ) - Has not there come to you the story of Moses? (Ⅱ) - Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses ? (Ⅲ) - Hast thou received the story of Moses? (Ⅳ) - هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:-
- Ith nadahu rabbuhu bialwadi almuqaddasi tuwan (Ⅰ) - When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley of Tuwa, (Ⅱ) - How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, (Ⅲ) - When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: (Ⅳ) - إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى (Ⅴ)

79.

"Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds:
- Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha (Ⅰ) - (Saying,) "Go to Pharaoh, surely he has transgressed beyond bounds." (Ⅱ) - (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - (Ⅲ) - ´Go to Pharaoh; he has waxed insolent. (Ⅳ) - اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

"And say to him, ´Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?-
- Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka (Ⅰ) - Then say, "Have you a desire to purify yourself? (Ⅱ) - And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace) ? (Ⅲ) - And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; (Ⅳ) - فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

"´And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?´"
- Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha (Ⅰ) - "And I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear." (Ⅱ) - Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him). (Ⅲ) - and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"´ (Ⅳ) - وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.
- Faarahu alayata alkubra (Ⅰ) - So he showed him the Mighty Sign. (Ⅱ) - And he showed him the tremendous token. (Ⅲ) - So he showed him the great sign, (Ⅳ) - فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);
- Fakaththaba waAAasa (Ⅰ) - But he (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed. (Ⅱ) - But he denied and disobeyed, (Ⅲ) - but he cried lies, and rebelled, (Ⅳ) - فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).
- Thumma adbara yasAAa (Ⅰ) - Then turned he away (from Allah) in haste. (Ⅱ) - Then turned he away in haste, (Ⅲ) - then he turned away hastily, (Ⅳ) - ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation,
- Fahashara fanada (Ⅰ) - Then he gathered (men) and made a proclamation. (Ⅱ) - Then gathered he and summoned (Ⅲ) - then he mustered (Ⅳ) - فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High".
- Faqala ana rabbukumu alaAAla (Ⅰ) - Saying, "I am your Lord, the most high." (Ⅱ) - And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." (Ⅲ) - and proclaimed, and he said, ´I am your Lord, the Most High!´ (Ⅳ) - فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life.
- Faakhathahu Allahu nakala alakhirati waaloola (Ⅰ) - So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Hereafter and the former life. (Ⅱ) - So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. (Ⅲ) - So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First. (Ⅳ) - فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah).
- Inna fee thalika laAAibratan liman yakhsha (Ⅰ) - Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. (Ⅱ) - Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth. (Ⅲ) - Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears! (Ⅳ) - إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.
27
What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it:
- Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami alssamao banaha (Ⅰ) - Are you the harder to create or the heaven? He created it. (Ⅱ) - Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built ? (Ⅲ) - What, are you stronger in constitution or the heaven He built? (Ⅳ) - أَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ ۚ بَنَاهَا (Ⅴ)

On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection.
- RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha (Ⅰ) - He raised high its height, and gave it order and perfection. (Ⅱ) - He raised the height thereof and ordered it; (Ⅲ) - He lifted up its vault, and levelled it, (Ⅳ) - رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا (Ⅴ)

79.

Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light).
- Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha (Ⅰ) - And He made dark its night and its splendour does He bring out with light. (Ⅱ) - And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof. (Ⅲ) - and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon; (Ⅳ) - وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا (Ⅴ)

79.

And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);
- Waalarda baAAda thalika dahaha (Ⅰ) - And after that He expanded (spread) the earth. (Ⅱ) - And after that He spread the earth, (Ⅲ) - and the earth-after that He spread it out, (Ⅳ) - وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا (Ⅴ)

79.
31
He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture;
- Akhraja minha maaha wamarAAaha (Ⅰ) - He brought forth from it its water and its pasturage. (Ⅱ) - And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof, (Ⅲ) - therefrom brought forth its waters and its pastures, (Ⅳ) - أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا (Ⅴ)

And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;-
- Waaljibala arsaha (Ⅰ) - And the mountains, He made them firm, (Ⅱ) - And He made fast the hills, (Ⅲ) - and the mountains He set firm, (Ⅳ) - وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا (Ⅴ)

79.

For use and convenience to you and your cattle.
- MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum (Ⅰ) - A provision for you and for your cattle. (Ⅱ) - A provision for you and for your cattle. (Ⅲ) - an enjoyment for you and your flocks. (Ⅳ) - مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ (Ⅴ)

79.
34
Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),-
- Faitha jaati alttammatu alkubra (Ⅰ) - But when the great overwhelming calamity comes; (Ⅱ) - But when the great disaster cometh, (Ⅲ) - Then, when the Great Catastrophe comes (Ⅳ) - فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ (Ⅴ)

The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for,
- Yawma yatathakkaru alinsanu ma saAAa (Ⅰ) - The Day on which man shall recollect all he strove after, (Ⅱ) - The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour, (Ⅲ) - upon the day when man shall remember what he has striven, (Ⅳ) - يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.
36
And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,-
- Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara (Ⅰ) - And Hell shall be made manifest to him who sees (Ⅱ) - And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth, (Ⅲ) - and Hell is advanced for whoever sees, (Ⅳ) - وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ (Ⅴ)

Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds,
- Faamma man tagha (Ⅰ) - Then for him who has transgressed all bounds, (Ⅱ) - Then, as for him who rebelled (Ⅲ) - then as for him who was insolent (Ⅳ) - فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

And had preferred the life of this world,
- Waathara alhayata alddunya (Ⅰ) - And prefers the life of this world, (Ⅱ) - And chose the life of the world, (Ⅲ) - and preferred the present life, (Ⅳ) - وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (Ⅴ)

79.

The Abode will be Hell-Fire;
- Fainna aljaheema hiya almawa (Ⅰ) - Surely, Hell will be his abode. (Ⅱ) - Lo! hell will be his home. (Ⅲ) - surely Hell shall be the refuge. (Ⅳ) - فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.
40
And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord´s (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires,
- Waama man khafa maqama rabbihi wanaha alnnafsa AAani alhawa (Ⅰ) - And as for him who had feared standing in the presence of his Lord and restrains his soul from lust (or low desires), (Ⅱ) - But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust, (Ⅲ) - But as for him who feared the Station of his Lord and forbade the soul its caprice, (Ⅳ) - وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ (Ⅴ)

79.

Their abode will be the Garden.
- Fainna aljannata hiya almawa (Ⅰ) - Then surely the Garden, that is his abode. (Ⅱ) - Lo! the Garden will be his home. (Ⅲ) - surely Paradise shall be the refuge. (Ⅳ) - فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ (Ⅴ)

They ask thee about the Hour,-´When will be its appointed time?
- Yasaloonaka AAani alssaAAati ayyana mursaha (Ⅰ) - They ask you (Muhammad) about the Hour, when it will come. (Ⅱ) - They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port ? (Ⅲ) - They will question thee concerning the Hour, when it shall berth. (Ⅳ) - يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا (Ⅴ)

79.
43
Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof?
- Feema anta min thikraha (Ⅰ) - "What," ask they, "have you to say about it?" (Ⅱ) - Why (ask they) ? What hast thou to tell thereof ? (Ⅲ) - What art thou about, to mention it? (Ⅳ) - فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَاهَا (Ⅴ)

With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor.
- Ila rabbika muntahaha (Ⅰ) - To your Lord belongs the knowledge of it. (Ⅱ) - Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof. (Ⅲ) - Unto thy Lord is the final end of it. (Ⅳ) - إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَاهَا (Ⅴ)

Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it.
- Innama anta munthiru man yakhshaha (Ⅰ) - you are only a Warner to him who would fear it. (Ⅱ) - Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it. (Ⅲ) - Thou art only the warner of him who fears it. (Ⅳ) - إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا (Ⅴ)

The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!
- Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lam yalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha (Ⅰ) - On the day that they behold it, it will be as though they had not tarried but an evening or the morning. (Ⅱ) - On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof. (Ⅲ) - It shall be as if; on the day they see it, they have but tarried for an evening, or its forenoon. (Ⅳ) - كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا (Ⅴ)
