80. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
80. 1  
He frowned and turned his back,
- AAabasa watawalla (Ⅰ)
- He frowned and turned away (Ⅱ)
- He frowned and turned away (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, (Ⅵ)
80. 2  
Because there came to him the blind man.
- An jaahu alaAAma (Ⅰ)
- Because the blind man came unto him. (Ⅱ)
- that the blind man came to him. (Ⅲ)
- أَن جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). (Ⅵ)
80. 3  
And what would make you know that he would grow (spiritually)
- Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka (Ⅰ)
- What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (Ⅱ)
- And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- (Ⅵ)
80. 4  
Or that he might become heedful so that the reminder should profit him?
- Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra (Ⅰ)
- Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him ? (Ⅱ)
- or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. (Ⅲ)
- أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? (Ⅵ)
80. 5  
As for him who considers himself independent (or self-sufficient),
- Amma mani istaghna (Ⅰ)
- As for him who thinketh himself independent, (Ⅱ)
- But the self-sufficient, (Ⅲ)
- أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, (Ⅵ)
80. 6  
To him do you attend.
- Faanta lahu tasadda (Ⅰ)
- Unto him thou payest regard. (Ⅱ)
- to him thou attendest (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- To him dost thou attend; (Ⅵ)
80. 7  
Yet no blame is on you if he grow not (spiritually).
- Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka (Ⅰ)
- Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). (Ⅱ)
- though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). (Ⅵ)
80. 8  
And as to him who comes to you striving earnestly,
- Waamma man jaaka yasAAa (Ⅰ)
- But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose (Ⅱ)
- And he who comes to thee eagerly (Ⅲ)
- وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, (Ⅵ)
80. 9  
And with the fear of Allah in his heart,
- Wahuwa yakhsha (Ⅰ)
- And hath fear, (Ⅱ)
- and fearfully, (Ⅲ)
- وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And with fear (in his heart), (Ⅵ)
80. 10  
From him were you unmindful (or distracted).
- Faanta AAanhu talahha (Ⅰ)
- From him thou art distracted. (Ⅱ)
- to him thou payest no heed. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Of him wast thou unmindful. (Ⅵ)
80. 11  
Nay! Verily, it is an admonishment (or a message of instructions).
- Kalla innaha tathkiratun (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, (Ⅱ)
- No indeed; it is a Reminder (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: (Ⅵ)
80. 12  
So let whoever will pay heed to it.
- Faman shaa thakarahu (Ⅰ)
- So let whosoever will pay heed to it, (Ⅱ)
- (and whoso wills, shall remember it) (Ⅲ)
- فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. (Ⅵ)
80. 13  
It is in honoured books,
- Fee suhufin mukarramatin (Ⅰ)
- On honoured leaves (Ⅱ)
- upon pages high-honoured, (Ⅲ)
- فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (Ⅵ)
80. 14  
Exalted, purified,
- MarfooAAatin mutahharatin (Ⅰ)
- Exalted, purified, (Ⅱ)
- uplifted, purified, (Ⅲ)
- مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, (Ⅵ)
80. 15  
Set down by scribes
- Biaydee safaratin (Ⅰ)
- (Set down) by scribes (Ⅱ)
- by the hands of scribes (Ⅲ)
- بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- (Written) by the hands of scribes- (Ⅵ)
80. 16  
Noble and righteous.
- Kiramin bararatin (Ⅰ)
- Noble and righteous. (Ⅱ)
- noble, pious. (Ⅲ)
- كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Honourable and Pious and Just. (Ⅵ)
80. 17  
Cursed (self-destroyed) is man! How ungrateful (to Allah) is he!
- Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu (Ⅰ)
- Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! (Ⅱ)
- Perish Man! How unthankful he is! (Ⅲ)
- قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; (Ⅵ)
80. 18  
Of what stuff did He create him?
- Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu (Ⅰ)
- From what thing doth He create him ? (Ⅱ)
- Of what did He create him? (Ⅲ)
- مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ (Ⅳ)
- From what stuff hath He created him? (Ⅵ)
80. 19  
Of a small seed; He created him, then gave him due proportions,
- Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu (Ⅰ)
- From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, (Ⅱ)
- Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, (Ⅲ)
- مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (Ⅵ)
80. 20  
Then He made his way easy for him,
- Thumma alssabeela yassarahu (Ⅰ)
- Then maketh the way easy for him, (Ⅱ)
- then the way eased for him, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then doth He make His path smooth for him; (Ⅵ)
80. 21  
Then He causes him to die and buries him in his grave,
- Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu (Ⅰ)
- Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; (Ⅱ)
- then makes him to die, and buries him, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; (Ⅵ)
80. 22  
Then when He wills, He will raise him to life again.
- Thumma itha shaa ansharahu (Ⅰ)
- Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. (Ⅱ)
- then, when He wills, He raises him. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنشَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (Ⅵ)
80. 23  
Nay; but man has not done that which He bade him.
- Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. (Ⅱ)
- No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. (Ⅵ)
80. 24  
Then let man consider his food,
- Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi (Ⅰ)
- Let man consider his food: (Ⅱ)
- Let Man consider his nourishment. (Ⅲ)
- فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ (Ⅳ)
- Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (Ⅵ)
80. 25  
That We pour down the water in abundance,
- Anna sababna almaa sabban (Ⅰ)
- How We pour water in showers (Ⅱ)
- We poured out the rains abundantly, (Ⅲ)
- أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- For that We pour forth water in abundance, (Ⅵ)
80. 26  
Then We cleave the earth,
- Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan (Ⅰ)
- Then split the earth in clefts (Ⅱ)
- then We split the earth in fissures (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا (Ⅳ)
- And We split the earth in fragments, (Ⅵ)
80. 27  
Then We cause to grow therein the grain,
- Faanbatna feeha habban (Ⅰ)
- And cause the grain to grow therein (Ⅱ)
- and therein made the grains to grow (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- And produce therein corn, (Ⅵ)
80. 28  
And grapes and clover,
- WaAAinaban waqadban (Ⅰ)
- And grapes and green fodder (Ⅱ)
- and vines, and reeds, (Ⅲ)
- وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا (Ⅳ)
- And Grapes and nutritious plants, (Ⅵ)
80. 29  
And the olive and the palm,
- Wazaytoonan wanakhlan (Ⅰ)
- And olive-trees and palm-trees (Ⅱ)
- and olives, and palms, (Ⅲ)
- وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا (Ⅳ)
- And Olives and Dates, (Ⅵ)
80. 30  
And dense luxurious gardens,
- Wahadaiqa ghulban (Ⅰ)
- And garden-closes of thick foliage (Ⅱ)
- and dense-tree´d gardens, (Ⅲ)
- وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا (Ⅳ)
- And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, (Ⅵ)
80. 31  
And fruits and herbage
- Wafakihatan waabban (Ⅰ)
- And fruits and grasses: (Ⅱ)
- and fruits, and pastures, (Ⅲ)
- وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- And fruits and fodder,- (Ⅵ)
80. 32  
A provision for you and for your cattle.
- MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum (Ⅰ)
- Provision for you and your cattle. (Ⅱ)
- an enjoyment for you and your flocks. (Ⅲ)
- مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ (Ⅳ)
- For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (Ⅵ)
80. 33  
But when the Deafening Noise (cataclysm) comes,
- Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu (Ⅰ)
- But when the Shout cometh (Ⅱ)
- And when the Blast shall sound, (Ⅲ)
- فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ (Ⅳ)
- At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (Ⅵ)
80. 34  
The Day on which a man shall fly from his brother,
- Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi (Ⅰ)
- On the day when a man fleeth from his brother (Ⅱ)
- upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, (Ⅵ)
80. 35  
And his mother and his father,
- Waommihi waabeehi (Ⅰ)
- And his mother and his father (Ⅱ)
- his mother, his father, (Ⅲ)
- وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And from his mother and his father, (Ⅵ)
80. 36  
And his spouse and his children,
- Wasahibatihi wabaneehi (Ⅰ)
- And his wife and his children, (Ⅱ)
- his consort, his sons, (Ⅲ)
- وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And from his wife and his children. (Ⅵ)
80. 37  
Every man of them shall on that Day be occupied with concerns which will make him heedless of others.
- Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi (Ⅰ)
- Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (Ⅱ)
- every man that day shall have business to suffice him. (Ⅲ)
- لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. (Ⅵ)
80. 38  
Many faces on that Day shall be bright as dawn (or beaming with light),
- Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun (Ⅰ)
- On that day faces will be bright as dawn, (Ⅱ)
- Some faces on that day shall shine (Ⅲ)
- وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Some faces that Day will be beaming, (Ⅵ)
80. 39  
Laughing, rejoicing.
- Dahikatun mustabshiratun (Ⅰ)
- Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (Ⅱ)
- laughing, joyous; (Ⅲ)
- ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Laughing, rejoicing. (Ⅵ)
80. 40  
And many faces on that Day, shall be covered with dust,
- Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun (Ⅰ)
- And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, (Ⅱ)
- some faces on that day shall be dusty (Ⅲ)
- وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, (Ⅵ)
80. 41  
Veiled in darkness.
- Tarhaquha qataratun (Ⅰ)
- Veiled in darkness, (Ⅱ)
- o´erspread with darkness -- (Ⅲ)
- تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Blackness will cover them: (Ⅵ)
80. 42  
These are the disbelievers, the wicked.
- Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu (Ⅰ)
- Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (Ⅱ)
- those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ (Ⅳ)
- Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. (Ⅵ)
