80. 0  
Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
80. 1  
He frowned and turned away
- AAabasa watawalla (Ⅰ)
- He frowned and turned his back, (Ⅱ)
- He frowned and turned away (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, (Ⅵ)
80. 2  
that the blind man came to him.
- An jaahu alaAAma (Ⅰ)
- Because there came to him the blind man. (Ⅱ)
- Because the blind man came unto him. (Ⅲ)
- أَن جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). (Ⅵ)
80. 3  
And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him,
- Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka (Ⅰ)
- And what would make you know that he would grow (spiritually) (Ⅱ)
- What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- (Ⅵ)
80. 4  
or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him.
- Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra (Ⅰ)
- Or that he might become heedful so that the reminder should profit him? (Ⅱ)
- Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him ? (Ⅲ)
- أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? (Ⅵ)
80. 5  
But the self-sufficient,
- Amma mani istaghna (Ⅰ)
- As for him who considers himself independent (or self-sufficient), (Ⅱ)
- As for him who thinketh himself independent, (Ⅲ)
- أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, (Ⅵ)
80. 6  
to him thou attendest
- Faanta lahu tasadda (Ⅰ)
- To him do you attend. (Ⅱ)
- Unto him thou payest regard. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- To him dost thou attend; (Ⅵ)
80. 7  
though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself.
- Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka (Ⅰ)
- Yet no blame is on you if he grow not (spiritually). (Ⅱ)
- Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). (Ⅵ)
80. 8  
And he who comes to thee eagerly
- Waamma man jaaka yasAAa (Ⅰ)
- And as to him who comes to you striving earnestly, (Ⅱ)
- But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose (Ⅲ)
- وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, (Ⅵ)
80. 9  
and fearfully,
- Wahuwa yakhsha (Ⅰ)
- And with the fear of Allah in his heart, (Ⅱ)
- And hath fear, (Ⅲ)
- وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And with fear (in his heart), (Ⅵ)
80. 10  
to him thou payest no heed.
- Faanta AAanhu talahha (Ⅰ)
- From him were you unmindful (or distracted). (Ⅱ)
- From him thou art distracted. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Of him wast thou unmindful. (Ⅵ)
80. 11  
No indeed; it is a Reminder
- Kalla innaha tathkiratun (Ⅰ)
- Nay! Verily, it is an admonishment (or a message of instructions). (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: (Ⅵ)
80. 12  
(and whoso wills, shall remember it)
- Faman shaa thakarahu (Ⅰ)
- So let whoever will pay heed to it. (Ⅱ)
- So let whosoever will pay heed to it, (Ⅲ)
- فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. (Ⅵ)
80. 13  
upon pages high-honoured,
- Fee suhufin mukarramatin (Ⅰ)
- It is in honoured books, (Ⅱ)
- On honoured leaves (Ⅲ)
- فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (Ⅵ)
80. 14  
uplifted, purified,
- MarfooAAatin mutahharatin (Ⅰ)
- Exalted, purified, (Ⅱ)
- Exalted, purified, (Ⅲ)
- مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, (Ⅵ)
80. 15  
by the hands of scribes
- Biaydee safaratin (Ⅰ)
- Set down by scribes (Ⅱ)
- (Set down) by scribes (Ⅲ)
- بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- (Written) by the hands of scribes- (Ⅵ)
80. 16  
noble, pious.
- Kiramin bararatin (Ⅰ)
- Noble and righteous. (Ⅱ)
- Noble and righteous. (Ⅲ)
- كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Honourable and Pious and Just. (Ⅵ)
80. 17  
Perish Man! How unthankful he is!
- Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu (Ⅰ)
- Cursed (self-destroyed) is man! How ungrateful (to Allah) is he! (Ⅱ)
- Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! (Ⅲ)
- قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; (Ⅵ)
80. 18  
Of what did He create him?
- Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu (Ⅰ)
- Of what stuff did He create him? (Ⅱ)
- From what thing doth He create him ? (Ⅲ)
- مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ (Ⅳ)
- From what stuff hath He created him? (Ⅵ)
80. 19  
Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him,
- Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu (Ⅰ)
- Of a small seed; He created him, then gave him due proportions, (Ⅱ)
- From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, (Ⅲ)
- مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (Ⅵ)
80. 20  
then the way eased for him,
- Thumma alssabeela yassarahu (Ⅰ)
- Then He made his way easy for him, (Ⅱ)
- Then maketh the way easy for him, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then doth He make His path smooth for him; (Ⅵ)
80. 21  
then makes him to die, and buries him,
- Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu (Ⅰ)
- Then He causes him to die and buries him in his grave, (Ⅱ)
- Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; (Ⅵ)
80. 22  
then, when He wills, He raises him.
- Thumma itha shaa ansharahu (Ⅰ)
- Then when He wills, He will raise him to life again. (Ⅱ)
- Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنشَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (Ⅵ)
80. 23  
No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding.
- Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu (Ⅰ)
- Nay; but man has not done that which He bade him. (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ (Ⅳ)
- By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. (Ⅵ)
80. 24  
Let Man consider his nourishment.
- Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi (Ⅰ)
- Then let man consider his food, (Ⅱ)
- Let man consider his food: (Ⅲ)
- فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ (Ⅳ)
- Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (Ⅵ)
80. 25  
We poured out the rains abundantly,
- Anna sababna almaa sabban (Ⅰ)
- That We pour down the water in abundance, (Ⅱ)
- How We pour water in showers (Ⅲ)
- أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- For that We pour forth water in abundance, (Ⅵ)
80. 26  
then We split the earth in fissures
- Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan (Ⅰ)
- Then We cleave the earth, (Ⅱ)
- Then split the earth in clefts (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا (Ⅳ)
- And We split the earth in fragments, (Ⅵ)
80. 27  
and therein made the grains to grow
- Faanbatna feeha habban (Ⅰ)
- Then We cause to grow therein the grain, (Ⅱ)
- And cause the grain to grow therein (Ⅲ)
- فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- And produce therein corn, (Ⅵ)
80. 28  
and vines, and reeds,
- WaAAinaban waqadban (Ⅰ)
- And grapes and clover, (Ⅱ)
- And grapes and green fodder (Ⅲ)
- وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا (Ⅳ)
- And Grapes and nutritious plants, (Ⅵ)
80. 29  
and olives, and palms,
- Wazaytoonan wanakhlan (Ⅰ)
- And the olive and the palm, (Ⅱ)
- And olive-trees and palm-trees (Ⅲ)
- وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا (Ⅳ)
- And Olives and Dates, (Ⅵ)
80. 30  
and dense-tree´d gardens,
- Wahadaiqa ghulban (Ⅰ)
- And dense luxurious gardens, (Ⅱ)
- And garden-closes of thick foliage (Ⅲ)
- وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا (Ⅳ)
- And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, (Ⅵ)
80. 31  
and fruits, and pastures,
- Wafakihatan waabban (Ⅰ)
- And fruits and herbage (Ⅱ)
- And fruits and grasses: (Ⅲ)
- وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا (Ⅳ)
- And fruits and fodder,- (Ⅵ)
80. 32  
an enjoyment for you and your flocks.
- MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum (Ⅰ)
- A provision for you and for your cattle. (Ⅱ)
- Provision for you and your cattle. (Ⅲ)
- مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ (Ⅳ)
- For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (Ⅵ)
80. 33  
And when the Blast shall sound,
- Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu (Ⅰ)
- But when the Deafening Noise (cataclysm) comes, (Ⅱ)
- But when the Shout cometh (Ⅲ)
- فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ (Ⅳ)
- At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (Ⅵ)
80. 34  
upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother,
- Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi (Ⅰ)
- The Day on which a man shall fly from his brother, (Ⅱ)
- On the day when a man fleeth from his brother (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, (Ⅵ)
80. 35  
his mother, his father,
- Waommihi waabeehi (Ⅰ)
- And his mother and his father, (Ⅱ)
- And his mother and his father (Ⅲ)
- وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And from his mother and his father, (Ⅵ)
80. 36  
his consort, his sons,
- Wasahibatihi wabaneehi (Ⅰ)
- And his spouse and his children, (Ⅱ)
- And his wife and his children, (Ⅲ)
- وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And from his wife and his children. (Ⅵ)
80. 37  
every man that day shall have business to suffice him.
- Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi (Ⅰ)
- Every man of them shall on that Day be occupied with concerns which will make him heedless of others. (Ⅱ)
- Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (Ⅲ)
- لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. (Ⅵ)
80. 38  
Some faces on that day shall shine
- Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun (Ⅰ)
- Many faces on that Day shall be bright as dawn (or beaming with light), (Ⅱ)
- On that day faces will be bright as dawn, (Ⅲ)
- وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Some faces that Day will be beaming, (Ⅵ)
80. 39  
laughing, joyous;
- Dahikatun mustabshiratun (Ⅰ)
- Laughing, rejoicing. (Ⅱ)
- Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (Ⅲ)
- ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Laughing, rejoicing. (Ⅵ)
80. 40  
some faces on that day shall be dusty
- Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun (Ⅰ)
- And many faces on that Day, shall be covered with dust, (Ⅱ)
- And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, (Ⅲ)
- وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, (Ⅵ)
80. 41  
o´erspread with darkness --
- Tarhaquha qataratun (Ⅰ)
- Veiled in darkness. (Ⅱ)
- Veiled in darkness, (Ⅲ)
- تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Blackness will cover them: (Ⅵ)
80. 42  
those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines.
- Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu (Ⅰ)
- These are the disbelievers, the wicked. (Ⅱ)
- Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ (Ⅳ)
- Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. (Ⅵ)
