89. 0  
Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
89. 1  
By the dawn
- Waalfajri (Ⅰ)
- I swear by (or call to witness) the dawn (Ⅱ)
- By the Dawn (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالْفَجْرِ (Ⅳ)
- By the break of Day (Ⅵ)
89. 2  
and ten nights,
- Walayalin AAashrin (Ⅰ)
- And by the nights twice five (of pilgrimage)! (Ⅱ)
- And ten nights, (Ⅲ)
- وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ (Ⅳ)
- By the Nights twice five; (Ⅵ)
89. 3  
by the even and the odd,
- WaalshshafAAi waalwatri (Ⅰ)
- And the even and the odd! (Ⅱ)
- And the Even and the Odd, (Ⅲ)
- وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ (Ⅳ)
- By the even and odd (contrasted); (Ⅵ)
89. 4  
by the night when it journeys on!
- Waallayli itha yasri (Ⅰ)
- And the night when it passes on! (Ⅱ)
- And the night when it departeth, (Ⅲ)
- وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ (Ⅳ)
- And by the Night when it passeth away;- (Ⅵ)
89. 5  
Is there in that an oath for a mindful man?
- Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijrin (Ⅰ)
- Is there not in these a lesson (evidence or admonition) for a man of understanding? (Ⅱ)
- There surely is an oath for thinking man. (Ⅲ)
- هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ (Ⅳ)
- Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (Ⅵ)
89. 6  
Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad,
- Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin (Ⅰ)
- Have you not seen how your Lord did with the people of A´ad? (Ⅱ)
- Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, (Ⅲ)
- أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ (Ⅳ)
- Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the ´Ad (people),- (Ⅵ)
89. 7  
Iram of the pillars,
- Irama thati alAAimadi (Ⅰ)
- With the city of Iram of the lofty pillars? (Ⅱ)
- With many-columned Iram, (Ⅲ)
- إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ (Ⅳ)
- Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, (Ⅵ)
89. 8  
the like of which was never created in the land,
- Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albiladi (Ⅰ)
- The like of which has not been created in all the land? (Ⅱ)
- The like of which was not created in the lands; (Ⅲ)
- الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ (Ⅳ)
- The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? (Ⅵ)
89. 9  
and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley,
- Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi (Ⅰ)
- And with the people of Thamud when they hewed the great stones in the valley? (Ⅱ)
- And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; (Ⅲ)
- وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ (Ⅳ)
- And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- (Ⅵ)
89. 10  
and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs,
- WafirAAawna thee alawtadi (Ⅰ)
- And with Pharaoh, Lord of the stakes? (Ⅱ)
- And with Pharaoh, firm of might, (Ⅲ)
- وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ (Ⅳ)
- And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? (Ⅵ)
89. 11  
who all were insolent in the land
- Allatheena taghaw fee albiladi (Ⅰ)
- All these were outrageous in the land, (Ⅱ)
- Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ (Ⅳ)
- (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, (Ⅵ)
89. 12  
and worked much corruption therein?
- Faaktharoo feeha alfasada (Ⅰ)
- And did multiply wickedness therein, (Ⅱ)
- And multiplied iniquity therein ? (Ⅲ)
- فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ (Ⅳ)
- And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). (Ⅵ)
89. 13  
Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement;
- Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin (Ⅰ)
- Therefore, your Lord poured out upon them the scourge of diverse torments. (Ⅱ)
- Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. (Ⅲ)
- فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ (Ⅳ)
- Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: (Ⅵ)
89. 14  
surely thy Lord is ever on the watch.
- Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi (Ⅰ)
- Verily, your Lord is ever watchful! (Ⅱ)
- Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ (Ⅳ)
- For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. (Ⅵ)
89. 15  
As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, ´My Lord has honoured me.´
- Faamma alinsanu itha ma ibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani (Ⅰ)
- Now as for man, whenever his Lord tries him and honours him and grants him favour, then he says, "My Lord has honoured me"; (Ⅱ)
- As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ (Ⅳ)
- Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." (Ⅵ)
89. 16  
But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, ´My Lord has despised me.´
- Waamma itha ma ibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani (Ⅰ)
- But whenever he tries him and restricts his subsistence, then he says, "My Lord despises me!" (Ⅱ)
- But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. (Ⅲ)
- وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ (Ⅳ)
- But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" (Ⅵ)
89. 17  
No indeed; but you honour not the orphan,
- Kalla bal la tukrimoona alyateema (Ⅰ)
- Nay, nay! But you do not honour the orphan, (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ (Ⅳ)
- Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! (Ⅵ)
89. 18  
and you urge not the feeding of the needy,
- Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAami almiskeeni (Ⅰ)
- Nor do you urge each other to feed the poor, (Ⅱ)
- And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (Ⅲ)
- وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ (Ⅳ)
- Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- (Ⅵ)
89. 19  
and you devour the inheritance greedily,
- Watakuloona altturatha aklan lamman (Ⅰ)
- And you devour the inheritance (of the weak) with greed, (Ⅱ)
- And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. (Ⅲ)
- وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا (Ⅳ)
- And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (Ⅵ)
89. 20  
and you love wealth with an ardent love
- Watuhibboona almala hubban jamman (Ⅰ)
- And you love wealth with an abounding love! (Ⅱ)
- And love wealth with abounding love. (Ⅲ)
- وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا (Ⅳ)
- And ye love wealth with inordinate love! (Ⅵ)
89. 21  
No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder,
- Kalla itha dukkati alardu dakkan dakkan (Ⅰ)
- Nay, when the earth is crushed to pieces, (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا (Ⅳ)
- Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, (Ⅵ)
89. 22  
and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank,
- Wajaa rabbuka waalmalaku saffan saffan (Ⅰ)
- And your Lord comes with the angels, rank on rank, (Ⅱ)
- And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, (Ⅲ)
- وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا (Ⅳ)
- And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, (Ⅵ)
89. 23  
and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him?
- Wajeea yawmaithin bijahannama yawmaithin yatathakkaru alinsanu waanna lahu alththikra (Ⅰ)
- And Hell is brought near on that Day, on that Day shall man remember! But how shall the remembrance profit him? (Ⅱ)
- And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him) ? (Ⅲ)
- وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? (Ⅵ)
89. 24  
He shall say, ´O would that I had forwarded for my life!´
- Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee (Ⅰ)
- He will say, "Would that I had sent something forward for my life!" (Ⅱ)
- He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! (Ⅲ)
- يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي (Ⅳ)
- He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" (Ⅵ)
89. 25  
Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises,
- Fayawmaithin la yuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun (Ⅰ)
- But on that Day none shall punish as He punishes, (Ⅱ)
- None punisheth as He will punish on that day! (Ⅲ)
- فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ (Ⅳ)
- For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, (Ⅵ)
89. 26  
none shall bind as He binds.
- Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun (Ⅰ)
- And none shall be bound with bonds like his! (Ⅱ)
- None bindeth as He then will bind. (Ⅲ)
- وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ (Ⅳ)
- And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. (Ⅵ)
89. 27  
´O soul at peace,
- Ya ayyatuha alnnafsu almutmainnatu (Ⅰ)
- But O, you soul in peace and fulfilment! (Ⅱ)
- But ah! thou soul at peace! (Ⅲ)
- يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ (Ⅳ)
- (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (Ⅵ)
89. 28  
return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing!
- IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan (Ⅰ)
- Return unto your Lord, well pleased and well pleasing unto Him! (Ⅱ)
- Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! (Ⅲ)
- ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً (Ⅳ)
- "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! (Ⅵ)
89. 29  
Enter thou among My servants!
- Faodkhulee fee AAibadee (Ⅰ)
- Enter you amongst My servants, (Ⅱ)
- Enter thou among My bondmen! (Ⅲ)
- فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي (Ⅳ)
- "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! (Ⅵ)
89. 30  
Enter thou My Paradise!´
- Waodkhulee jannatee (Ⅰ)
- Enter you My Garden (Paradise)! (Ⅱ)
- Enter thou My Garden! (Ⅲ)
- وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي (Ⅳ)
- "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! (Ⅵ)
