90. 0  
Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
90. 1  
No! I swear by this land,
- La oqsimu bihatha albaladi (Ⅰ)
- I swear (or call to witness) this City (Mecca), (Ⅱ)
- Nay, I swear by this city - (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ (Ⅳ)
- I do call to witness this City;- (Ⅵ)
90. 2  
and thou art a lodger in this land;
- Waanta hillun bihatha albaladi (Ⅰ)
- And you (Muhammad) are a dweller of this City! (Ⅱ)
- And thou art an indweller of this city - (Ⅲ)
- وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ (Ⅳ)
- And thou art a freeman of this City;- (Ⅵ)
90. 3  
by the begetter, and that he begot,
- Wawalidin wama walada (Ⅰ)
- And the (mystic ties) of Parent and Child! (Ⅱ)
- And the begetter and that which he begat, (Ⅲ)
- وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ (Ⅳ)
- And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- (Ⅵ)
90. 4  
indeed, We created man in trouble.
- Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee kabadin (Ⅰ)
- We have surely created man in suffering (struggle, trouble, sorrow). (Ⅱ)
- We verily have created man in an atmosphere: (Ⅲ)
- لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ (Ⅳ)
- Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. (Ⅵ)
90. 5  
What, does he think none has power over him,
- Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahadun (Ⅰ)
- Does he think that none has power over him? (Ⅱ)
- Thinketh he that none hath power over him ? (Ⅲ)
- أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ (Ⅳ)
- Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? (Ⅵ)
90. 6  
saying, ´I have consumed wealth abundant´?
- Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubadan (Ⅰ)
- He says, "I have squandered wealth in plenty;" (Ⅱ)
- And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: (Ⅲ)
- يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا (Ⅳ)
- He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! (Ⅵ)
90. 7  
What, does he think none has seen him?
- Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadun (Ⅰ)
- Does he think that no one sees him? (Ⅱ)
- Thinketh he that none beholdeth him ? (Ⅲ)
- أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ (Ⅳ)
- Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? (Ⅵ)
90. 8  
Have We not appointed to him two eyes,
- Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayni (Ⅰ)
- Have We not made for him two eyes (Ⅱ)
- Did We not assign unto him two eyes (Ⅲ)
- أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ (Ⅳ)
- Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- (Ⅵ)
90. 9  
and a tongue, and two lips,
- Walisanan washafatayni (Ⅰ)
- And a tongue, and two lips? (Ⅱ)
- And a tongue and two lips, (Ⅲ)
- وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ (Ⅳ)
- And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- (Ⅵ)
90. 10  
and guided him on the two highways?
- Wahadaynahu alnnajdayni (Ⅰ)
- And guided him in the two highways? (Ⅱ)
- And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways ? (Ⅲ)
- وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ (Ⅳ)
- And shown him the two highways? (Ⅵ)
90. 11  
Yet he has not assaulted the steep;
- Fala iqtahama alAAaqabata (Ⅰ)
- But he has not attempted the ascent! (Ⅱ)
- But he hath not attempted the Ascent - (Ⅲ)
- فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ (Ⅳ)
- But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. (Ⅵ)
90. 12  
and what shall teach thee what is the steep?
- Wama adraka ma alAAaqabatu (Ⅰ)
- And what will explain to you the ascent? (Ⅱ)
- Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ (Ⅳ)
- And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- (Ⅵ)
90. 13  
The freeing of a slave,
- Fakku raqabatin (Ⅰ)
- It is freeing captives (or prisoners, slaves, the restricted or bound), (Ⅱ)
- (It is) to free a slave, (Ⅲ)
- فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- (It is:) freeing the bondman; (Ⅵ)
90. 14  
or giving food upon a day of hunger
- Aw itAAamun fee yawmin thee masghabatin (Ⅰ)
- Or feeding on the day of privation, (Ⅱ)
- And to feed in the day of hunger. (Ⅲ)
- أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Or the giving of food in a day of privation (Ⅵ)
90. 15  
to an orphan near of kin
- Yateeman tha maqrabatin (Ⅰ)
- An orphan who is a kin, (Ⅱ)
- An orphan near of kin, (Ⅲ)
- يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- To the orphan with claims of relationship, (Ⅵ)
90. 16  
or a needy man in misery;
- Aw miskeenan tha matrabatin (Ⅰ)
- Or a destitute lying in the dust (of misery); (Ⅱ)
- Or some poor wretch in misery, (Ⅲ)
- أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. (Ⅵ)
90. 17  
then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful.
- Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoo watawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamati (Ⅰ)
- And again (it is) to be of those who believe and encourage each other to patience, and encourage each other to mercy, (Ⅱ)
- And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ (Ⅳ)
- Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. (Ⅵ)
90. 18  
Those are the Companions of the Right Hand.
- Olaika ashabu almaymanati (Ⅰ)
- These are the fellows of the right! (Ⅱ)
- Their place will be on the right hand. (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ (Ⅳ)
- Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. (Ⅵ)
90. 19  
And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand;
- Waallatheena kafaroo biayatina hum ashabu almashamati (Ⅰ)
- But those who disbelieve in our signs, they are the fellows of the left, (Ⅱ)
- But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ (Ⅳ)
- But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. (Ⅵ)
90. 20  
over them is a Fire covered down.
- AAalayhim narun musadatun (Ⅰ)
- For them is the enclosing Fire! (Ⅱ)
- Fire will be an awning over them. (Ⅲ)
- عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). (Ⅵ)
