90. 0  
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)
90. 1  
I do call to witness this City;-
- La oqsimu bihatha albaladi (Ⅰ)
- I swear (or call to witness) this City (Mecca), (Ⅱ)
- Nay, I swear by this city - (Ⅲ)
- No! I swear by this land, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ (Ⅴ)
90. 2  
And thou art a freeman of this City;-
- Waanta hillun bihatha albaladi (Ⅰ)
- And you (Muhammad) are a dweller of this City! (Ⅱ)
- And thou art an indweller of this city - (Ⅲ)
- and thou art a lodger in this land; (Ⅳ)
- وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ (Ⅴ)
90. 3  
And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;-
- Wawalidin wama walada (Ⅰ)
- And the (mystic ties) of Parent and Child! (Ⅱ)
- And the begetter and that which he begat, (Ⅲ)
- by the begetter, and that he begot, (Ⅳ)
- وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ (Ⅴ)
90. 4  
Verily We have created man into toil and struggle.
- Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee kabadin (Ⅰ)
- We have surely created man in suffering (struggle, trouble, sorrow). (Ⅱ)
- We verily have created man in an atmosphere: (Ⅲ)
- indeed, We created man in trouble. (Ⅳ)
- لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ (Ⅴ)
90. 5  
Thinketh he, that none hath power over him?
- Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahadun (Ⅰ)
- Does he think that none has power over him? (Ⅱ)
- Thinketh he that none hath power over him ? (Ⅲ)
- What, does he think none has power over him, (Ⅳ)
- أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ (Ⅴ)
90. 6  
He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance!
- Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubadan (Ⅰ)
- He says, "I have squandered wealth in plenty;" (Ⅱ)
- And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: (Ⅲ)
- saying, ´I have consumed wealth abundant´? (Ⅳ)
- يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا (Ⅴ)
90. 7  
Thinketh he that none beholdeth him?
- Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadun (Ⅰ)
- Does he think that no one sees him? (Ⅱ)
- Thinketh he that none beholdeth him ? (Ⅲ)
- What, does he think none has seen him? (Ⅳ)
- أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ (Ⅴ)
90. 8  
Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?-
- Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayni (Ⅰ)
- Have We not made for him two eyes (Ⅱ)
- Did We not assign unto him two eyes (Ⅲ)
- Have We not appointed to him two eyes, (Ⅳ)
- أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ (Ⅴ)
90. 9  
And a tongue, and a pair of lips?-
- Walisanan washafatayni (Ⅰ)
- And a tongue, and two lips? (Ⅱ)
- And a tongue and two lips, (Ⅲ)
- and a tongue, and two lips, (Ⅳ)
- وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ (Ⅴ)
90. 10  
And shown him the two highways?
- Wahadaynahu alnnajdayni (Ⅰ)
- And guided him in the two highways? (Ⅱ)
- And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways ? (Ⅲ)
- and guided him on the two highways? (Ⅳ)
- وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ (Ⅴ)
90. 11  
But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.
- Fala iqtahama alAAaqabata (Ⅰ)
- But he has not attempted the ascent! (Ⅱ)
- But he hath not attempted the Ascent - (Ⅲ)
- Yet he has not assaulted the steep; (Ⅳ)
- فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ (Ⅴ)
90. 12  
And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?-
- Wama adraka ma alAAaqabatu (Ⅰ)
- And what will explain to you the ascent? (Ⅱ)
- Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - (Ⅲ)
- and what shall teach thee what is the steep? (Ⅳ)
- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ (Ⅴ)
90. 13  
(It is:) freeing the bondman;
- Fakku raqabatin (Ⅰ)
- It is freeing captives (or prisoners, slaves, the restricted or bound), (Ⅱ)
- (It is) to free a slave, (Ⅲ)
- The freeing of a slave, (Ⅳ)
- فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ (Ⅴ)
90. 14  
Or the giving of food in a day of privation
- Aw itAAamun fee yawmin thee masghabatin (Ⅰ)
- Or feeding on the day of privation, (Ⅱ)
- And to feed in the day of hunger. (Ⅲ)
- or giving food upon a day of hunger (Ⅳ)
- أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ (Ⅴ)
90. 15  
To the orphan with claims of relationship,
- Yateeman tha maqrabatin (Ⅰ)
- An orphan who is a kin, (Ⅱ)
- An orphan near of kin, (Ⅲ)
- to an orphan near of kin (Ⅳ)
- يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ (Ⅴ)
90. 16  
Or to the indigent (down) in the dust.
- Aw miskeenan tha matrabatin (Ⅰ)
- Or a destitute lying in the dust (of misery); (Ⅱ)
- Or some poor wretch in misery, (Ⅲ)
- or a needy man in misery; (Ⅳ)
- أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ (Ⅴ)
90. 17  
Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion.
- Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoo watawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamati (Ⅰ)
- And again (it is) to be of those who believe and encourage each other to patience, and encourage each other to mercy, (Ⅱ)
- And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. (Ⅲ)
- then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. (Ⅳ)
- ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ (Ⅴ)
90. 18  
Such are the Companions of the Right Hand.
- Olaika ashabu almaymanati (Ⅰ)
- These are the fellows of the right! (Ⅱ)
- Their place will be on the right hand. (Ⅲ)
- Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. (Ⅳ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ (Ⅴ)
90. 19  
But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand.
- Waallatheena kafaroo biayatina hum ashabu almashamati (Ⅰ)
- But those who disbelieve in our signs, they are the fellows of the left, (Ⅱ)
- But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. (Ⅲ)
- And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; (Ⅳ)
- وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ (Ⅴ)
90. 20  
On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round).
- AAalayhim narun musadatun (Ⅰ)
- For them is the enclosing Fire! (Ⅱ)
- Fire will be an awning over them. (Ⅲ)
- over them is a Fire covered down. (Ⅳ)
- عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ (Ⅴ)
