Cernens autem Rachel quod infecunda esset, invidit sorori suæ, et ait marito suo : Da mihi liberos, alioquin moriar.
- Lorsque Rachel vit qu'elle ne donnait point d'enfants à Jacob, elle porta envie à sa soeur, et elle dit à Jacob: Donne-moi des enfants, ou je meurs! (Ⅱ) - And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. Cui iratus respondit Jacob : Num pro Deo ego sum, qui privavit te fructu ventris tui ?
- La colère de Jacob s'enflamma contre Rachel, et il dit: Suis-je à la place de Dieu, qui t'empêche d'être féconde? (Ⅱ) - And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb? (Ⅲ) - ἐθυμώθη δὲ Ιακωβ τη̨̃ Ραχηλ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτη̨̃ μὴ ἀντὶ θεου̃ ἐγώ εἰμι ὃς ἐστέρησέν σε καρπὸν κοιλίας (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃30 ויחר אף יעקב ברחל ויאמר התחת אלהים אנכי אשר מנע ממך פרי בטן (Ⅴ)

At illa : Habeo, inquit, famulam Balam : ingredere ad illam, ut pariat super genua mea, et habeam ex illa filios.
- Elle dit: Voici ma servante Bilha; va vers elle; qu'elle enfante sur mes genoux, et que par elle j'aie aussi des fils. (Ⅱ) - And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her. - Et elle lui donna pour femme Bilha, sa servante; et Jacob alla vers elle. (Ⅱ) - And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her. Dixitque Rachel : Judicavit mihi Dominus, et exaudivit vocem meam, dans mihi filium, et idcirco appellavit nomen ejus Dan.
- Rachel dit: Dieu m'a rendu justice, il a entendu ma voix, et il m'a donné un fils. C'est pourquoi elle l'appela du nom de Dan. (Ⅱ) - And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan. - Rachel dit: J'ai lutté divinement contre ma soeur, et j'ai vaincu. Et elle l'appela du nom de Nephthali. (Ⅱ) - And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali. - Léa voyant qu'elle avait cessé d'enfanter, prit Zilpa, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob. (Ⅱ) - When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife. Egressus autem Ruben tempore messis triticeæ in agrum, reperit mandragoras, quas matri Liæ detulit. Dixitque Rachel : Da mihi partem de mandragoris filii tui.
- Ruben sortit au temps de la moisson des blés, et trouva des mandragores dans les champs. Il les apporta à Léa, sa mère. Alors Rachel dit à Léa: Donne moi, je te prie, des mandragores de ton fils. (Ⅱ) - And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes. (Ⅲ) - ἐπορεύθη δὲ Ρουβην ἐν ἡμέραις θερισμου̃ πυρω̃ν καὶ εὑ̃ρεν μη̃λα μανδραγόρου ἐν τω̨̃ ἀγρω̨̃ καὶ ἤνεγκεν αὐτὰ πρὸς Λειαν τὴν μητέρα αὐτου̃ εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ραχηλ τη̨̃ Λεια δός μοι τω̃ν μανδραγορω̃ν του̃ υἱου̃ σου (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃30 וילך ראובן בימי קציר חטים וימצא דודאים בשדה ויבא אתם אל לאה אמו ותאמר רחל אל לאה תני נא לי מדודאי בנך (Ⅴ)

Illa respondit : Parumne tibi videtur quod præripueris maritum mihi, nisi etiam mandragoras filii mei tuleris ? Ait Rachel : Dormiat tecum hac nocte pro mandragoris filii tui.
- Elle lui répondit: Est-ce peu que tu aies pris mon mari, pour que tu prennes aussi les mandragores de mon fils? Et Rachel dit: Eh bien! il couchera avec toi cette nuit pour les mandragores de ton fils. (Ⅱ) - And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ Λεια οὐχ ἱκανόν σοι ὅτι ἔλαβες τὸν ἄνδρα μου μὴ καὶ τοὺς μανδραγόρας του̃ υἱου̃ μου λήμψη̨ εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ραχηλ οὐχ οὕτως κοιμηθήτω μετὰ σου̃ τὴν νύκτα ταύτην ἀντὶ τω̃ν μανδραγορω̃ν του̃ υἱου̃ σου (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃30 ותאמר לה המעט קחתך את אישי ולקחת גם את דודאי בני ותאמר רחל לכן ישכב עמך הלילה תחת דודאי בנך (Ⅴ)

Redeuntique ad vesperam Jacob de agro, egressa est in occursum ejus Lia, et Ad me, inquit, intrabis : quia mercede conduxi te pro mandragoris filii mei. Dormivitque cum ea nocte illa.
- Le soir, comme Jacob revenait des champs, Léa sortit à sa rencontre, et dit: C'est vers moi que tu viendras, car je t'ai acheté pour les mandragores de mon fils. Et il coucha avec elle cette nuit. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. - Dieu exauça Léa, qui devint enceinte, et enfanta un cinquième fils à Jacob. (Ⅱ) - And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐπήκουσεν ὁ θεὸς Λειας καὶ συλλαβου̃σα ἔτεκεν τω̨̃ Ιακωβ υἱὸν πέμπτον (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃30 וישמע אלהים אל לאה ותהר ותלד ליעקב בן חמישי (Ⅴ)

et ait : Dedit Deus mercedem mihi, quia dedi ancillam meam viro meo : appellavitque nomen ejus Issachar.
- Léa dit: Dieu m'a donné mon salaire parce que j'ai donné ma servante à mon mari. Et elle l'appela du nom d'Issacar. (Ⅱ) - And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Λεια ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν μισθόν μου ἀνθ' οὑ̃ ἔδωκα τὴν παιδίσκην μου τω̨̃ ἀνδρί μου καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτου̃ Ισσαχαρ ὅ ἐστιν Μισθός (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃30 ותאמר לאה נתן אלהים שכרי אשר נתתי שפחתי לאישי ותקרא שמו יששכר (Ⅴ)

et ait : Dotavit me Deus dote bona : etiam hac vice mecum erit maritus meus, eo quod genuerim ei sex filios : et idcirco appellavit nomen ejus Zabulon.
- Léa dit: Dieu m'a fait un beau don; cette fois, mon mari habitera avec moi, car je lui ai enfanté six fils. Et elle l'appela du nom de Zabulon. (Ⅱ) - And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Λεια δεδώρηταί μοι ὁ θεὸς δω̃ρον καλόν ἐν τω̨̃ νυ̃ν καιρω̨̃ αἱρετιει̃ με ὁ ἀνήρ μου ἔτεκον γὰρ αὐτω̨̃ υἱοὺς ἕξ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτου̃ Ζαβουλων (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃30 ותאמר לאה זבדני אלהים אתי זבד טוב הפעם יזבלני אישי כי ילדתי לו ששה בנים ותקרא את שמו זבלון (Ⅴ)

- Ensuite, elle enfanta une fille, qu'elle appela du nom de Dina. (Ⅱ) - And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah. (Ⅲ) - καὶ μετὰ του̃το ἔτεκεν θυγατέρα καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτη̃ς Δινα (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃30 ואחר ילדה בת ותקרא את שמה דינה (Ⅴ)

Recordatus quoque Dominus Rachelis, exaudivit eam, et aperuit vulvam ejus.
- Dieu se souvint de Rachel, il l'exauça, et il la rendit féconde. (Ⅱ) - And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. (Ⅲ) - ἐμνήσθη δὲ ὁ θεὸς τη̃ς Ραχηλ καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτη̃ς ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἀνέω̨ξεν αὐτη̃ς τὴν μήτραν (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃30 ויזכר אלהים את רחל וישמע אליה אלהים ויפתח את רחמה (Ⅴ)

(Ⅱ) - And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: (Ⅲ) - καὶ συλλαβου̃σα ἔτεκεν τω̨̃ Ιακωβ υἱόν εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ραχηλ ἀφει̃λεν ὁ θεός μου τὸ ὄνειδος (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃30 ותהר ותלד בן ותאמר אסף אלהים את חרפתי (Ⅴ)

- Et elle lui donna le nom de Joseph, en disant: Que l'Éternel m'ajoute un autre fils! (Ⅱ) - And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτου̃ Ιωσηφ λέγουσα προσθέτω ὁ θεός μοι υἱὸν ἕτερον (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃30 ותקרא את שמו יוסף לאמר יסף יהוה לי בן אחר (Ⅴ)

Nato autem Joseph, dixit Jacob socero suo : Dimitte me ut revertar in patriam, et ad terram meam.
- Lorsque Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, Jacob dit à Laban: Laisse-moi partir, pour que je m'en aille chez moi, dans mon pays. (Ⅱ) - And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country. (Ⅲ) - ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἔτεκεν Ραχηλ τὸν Ιωσηφ εἰ̃πεν Ιακωβ τω̨̃ Λαβαν ἀπόστειλόν με ἵνα ἀπέλθω εἰς τὸν τόπον μου καὶ εἰς τὴν γη̃ν μου (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃30 ויהי כאשר ילדה רחל את יוסף ויאמר יעקב אל לבן שלחני ואלכה אל מקומי ולארצי (Ⅴ)

Da mihi uxores, et liberos meos, pro quibus servivi tibi, ut abeam : tu nosti servitutem qua servivi tibi.\
- Donne-moi mes femmes et mes enfants, pour lesquels je t'ai servi, et je m'en irai; car tu sais quel service j'ai fait pour toi. (Ⅱ) - Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee. (Ⅲ) - ἀπόδος τὰς γυναι̃κάς μου καὶ τὰ παιδία περὶ ὡ̃ν δεδούλευκά σοι ἵνα ἀπέλθω σὺ γὰρ γινώσκεις τὴν δουλείαν ἣν δεδούλευκά σοι (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃30 תנה את נשי ואת ילדי אשר עבדתי אתך בהן ואלכה כי אתה ידעת את עבדתי אשר עבדתיך (Ⅴ)

Ait illi Laban : Inveniam gratiam in conspectu tuo, experimento didici, quia benedixerit mihi Deus propter te :
- Laban lui dit: Puissé-je trouver grâce à tes yeux! Je vois bien que l'Éternel m'a béni à cause de toi; (Ⅱ) - And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ Λαβαν εἰ εὑ̃ρον χάριν ἐναντίον σου οἰωνισάμην ἄν εὐλόγησεν γάρ με ὁ θεὸς τη̨̃ ση̨̃ εἰσόδω̨ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃30 ויאמר אליו לבן אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך נחשתי ויברכני יהוה בגללך (Ⅴ)

- fixe-moi ton salaire, et je te le donnerai. (Ⅱ) - And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it. (Ⅲ) - διάστειλον τὸν μισθόν σου πρός με καὶ δώσω (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃30 ויאמר נקבה שכרך עלי ואתנה (Ⅴ)

At ille respondit : Tu nosti quomodo servierim tibi, et quanta in manibus meis fuerit possessio tua.
- Jacob lui dit: Tu sais comment je t'ai servi, et ce qu'est devenu ton troupeau avec moi; (Ⅱ) - And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ Ιακωβ σὺ γινώσκεις ἃ δεδούλευκά σοι καὶ ὅσα ἠ̃ν κτήνη σου μετ' ἐμου̃ (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃30 ויאמר אליו אתה ידעת את אשר עבדתיך ואת אשר היה מקנך אתי (Ⅴ)

Modicum habuisti antequam venirem ad te, et nunc dives effectus es : benedixitque tibi Dominus ad introitum meum. Justum est igitur ut aliquando provideam etiam domui meæ.
- car le peu que tu avais avant moi s'est beaucoup accru, et l'Éternel t'a béni sur mes pas. Maintenant, quand travaillerai-je aussi pour ma maison? (Ⅱ) - For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also? Dixitque Laban : Quid tibi dabo ? At ille ait : Nihil volo : sed si feceris quod postulo, iterum pascam, et custodiam pecora tua.
- Laban dit: Que te donnerai-je? Et Jacob répondit: Tu ne me donneras rien. Si tu consens à ce que je vais te dire, je ferai paître encore ton troupeau, et je le garderai. (Ⅱ) - And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Λαβαν τί σοι δώσω εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ Ιακωβ οὐ δώσεις μοι οὐθέν ἐὰν ποιήση̨ς μοι τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το πάλιν ποιμανω̃ τὰ πρόβατά σου καὶ φυλάξω (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃30 ויאמר מה אתן לך ויאמר יעקב לא תתן לי מאומה אם תעשה לי הדבר הזה אשובה ארעה צאנך אשמר (Ⅴ)

Gyra omnes greges tuos, et separa cunctas oves varias, et sparso vellere ; quodcumque furvum, et maculosum, variumque fuerit, tam in ovibus quam in capris, erit merces mea.
- Je parcourrai aujourd'hui tout ton troupeau; mets à part parmi les brebis tout agneau tacheté et marqueté et tout agneau noir, et parmi les chèvres tout ce qui est marqueté et tacheté. Ce sera mon salaire. (Ⅱ) - I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire. (Ⅲ) - παρελθάτω πάντα τὰ πρόβατά σου σήμερον καὶ διαχώρισον ἐκει̃θεν πα̃ν πρόβατον φαιὸν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀρνάσιν καὶ πα̃ν διάλευκον καὶ ῥαντὸν ἐν ται̃ς αἰξίν ἔσται μοι μισθός (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃30 אעבר בכל צאנך היום הסר משם כל שה נקד וטלוא וכל שה חום בכשבים וטלוא ונקד בעזים והיה שכרי (Ⅴ)

Respondebitque mihi cras justitia mea, quando placiti tempus advenerit coram te : et omnia quæ non fuerint varia, et maculosa, et furva, tam in ovibus quam in capris, furti me arguent.
- Ma droiture répondra pour moi demain, quand tu viendras voir mon salaire; tout ce qui ne sera pas tacheté et marqueté parmi les chèvres, et noir parmi les agneaux, ce sera de ma part un vol. (Ⅱ) - So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐπακούσεταί μοι ἡ δικαιοσύνη μου ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ αὔριον ὅτι ἐστὶν ὁ μισθός μου ἐνώπιόν σου πα̃ν ὃ ἐὰν μὴ ἠ̨̃ ῥαντὸν καὶ διάλευκον ἐν ται̃ς αἰξὶν καὶ φαιὸν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀρνάσιν κεκλεμμένον ἔσται παρ' ἐμοί (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃30 וענתה בי צדקתי ביום מחר כי תבוא על שכרי לפניך כל אשר איננו נקד וטלוא בעזים וחום בכשבים גנוב הוא אתי (Ⅴ)

Dixitque Laban : Gratum habeo quod petis.
- Laban dit: Eh bien! qu'il en soit selon ta parole. (Ⅱ) - And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ Λαβαν ἔστω κατὰ τὸ ῥη̃μά σου (Ⅳ) - 34 ׃30 ויאמר לבן הן לו יהי כדברך (Ⅴ)

Et separavit in die illa capras, et oves, et hircos, et arietes varios, atque maculosos : cunctum autem gregem unicolorem, id est albi et nigri velleris, tradidit in manu filiorum suorum.
- Ce même jour, il mit à part les boucs rayés et marquetés, toutes les chèvres tachetées et marquetées, toutes celles où il y avait du blanc, et tout ce qui était noir parmi les brebis. Il les remit entre les mains de ses fils. (Ⅱ) - And he removed that day the he goats that were ring-streaked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons. (Ⅲ) - καὶ διέστειλεν ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ τοὺς τράγους τοὺς ῥαντοὺς καὶ τοὺς διαλεύκους καὶ πάσας τὰς αἰ̃γας τὰς ῥαντὰς καὶ τὰς διαλεύκους καὶ πα̃ν ὃ ἠ̃ν λευκὸν ἐν αὐτοι̃ς καὶ πα̃ν ὃ ἠ̃ν φαιὸν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀρνάσιν καὶ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς τω̃ν υἱω̃ν αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 35 ׃30 ויסר ביום ההוא את התישים העקדים והטלאים ואת כל העזים הנקדות והטלאת כל אשר לבן בו וכל חום בכשבים ויתן ביד בניו (Ⅴ)

Et posuit spatium itineris trium dierum inter se et generum, qui pascebat reliquos greges ejus.
- Puis il mit l'espace de trois journées de chemin entre lui et Jacob; et Jacob fit paître le reste du troupeau de Laban. (Ⅱ) - And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἀπέστησεν ὁδὸν τριω̃ν ἡμερω̃ν ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Ιακωβ Ιακωβ δὲ ἐποίμαινεν τὰ πρόβατα Λαβαν τὰ ὑπολειφθέντα (Ⅳ) - 36 ׃30 וישם דרך שלשת ימים בינו ובין יעקב ויעקב רעה את צאן לבן הנותרת (Ⅴ)

Tollens ergo Jacob virgas populeas virides, et amygdalinas, et ex platanis, ex parte decorticavit eas : detractisque corticibus, in his, quæ spoliata fuerant, candor apparuit : illa vero quæ integra fuerant, viridia permanserunt : atque in hunc modum color effectus est varius.
- Jacob prit des branches vertes de peuplier, d'amandier et de platane; il y pela des bandes blanches, mettant à nu le blanc qui était sur les branches. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and pilled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. (Ⅲ) - ἔλαβεν δὲ ἑαυτω̨̃ Ιακωβ ῥάβδον στυρακίνην χλωρὰν καὶ καρυίνην καὶ πλατάνου καὶ ἐλέπισεν αὐτὰς Ιακωβ λεπίσματα λευκὰ περισύρων τὸ χλωρόν ἐφαίνετο δὲ ἐπὶ ται̃ς ῥάβδοις τὸ λευκόν ὃ ἐλέπισεν ποικίλον (Ⅳ) - 37 ׃30 ויקח לו יעקב מקל לבנה לח ולוז וערמון[1] ויפצל בהן פצלות לבנות מחשף הלבן אשר על המקלות (Ⅴ)

Posuitque eas in canalibus, ubi effundebatur aqua : ut cum venissent greges ad bibendum, ante oculos haberent virgas, et in aspectu earum conciperent.
- Puis il plaça les branches, qu'il avait pelées, dans les auges, dans les abreuvoirs, sous les yeux des brebis qui venaient boire, pour qu'elles entrassent en chaleur en venant boire. (Ⅱ) - And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. (Ⅲ) - καὶ παρέθηκεν τὰς ῥάβδους ἃς ἐλέπισεν ἐν ται̃ς ληνοι̃ς τω̃ν ποτιστηρίων του̃ ὕδατος ἵνα ὡς ἂν ἔλθωσιν τὰ πρόβατα πιει̃ν ἐνώπιον τω̃ν ῥάβδων ἐλθόντων αὐτω̃ν εἰς τὸ πιει̃ν (Ⅳ) - 38 ׃30 ויצג את המקלות אשר פצל ברהטים בשקתות המים אשר תבאן הצאן לשתות לנכח הצאן ויחמנה בבאן לשתות (Ⅴ)

Factumque est ut in ipso calore coitus, oves intuerentur virgas, et parerent maculosa, et varia, et diverso colore respersa.
- Les brebis entraient en chaleur près des branches, et elles faisaient des petits rayés, tachetés et marquetés. (Ⅱ) - And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ring-streaked, speckled, and spotted. (Ⅲ) - ἐγκισσήσωσιν τὰ πρόβατα εἰς τὰς ῥάβδους καὶ ἔτικτον τὰ πρόβατα διάλευκα καὶ ποικίλα καὶ σποδοειδη̃ ῥαντά (Ⅳ) - 39 ׃30 ויחמו הצאן אל המקלות ותלדן הצאן עקדים נקדים וטלאים (Ⅴ)

Divisitque gregem Jacob, et posuit virgas in canalibus ante oculos arietum : erant autem alba et nigra quæque, Laban ; cetera vero, Jacob, separatis inter se gregibus.
- Jacob séparait les agneaux, et il mettait ensemble ce qui était rayé et tout ce qui était noir dans le troupeau de Laban. Il se fit ainsi des troupeaux à part, qu'il ne réunit point au troupeau de Laban. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ring-streaked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle. (Ⅲ) - τοὺς δὲ ἀμνοὺς διέστειλεν Ιακωβ καὶ ἔστησεν ἐναντίον τω̃ν προβάτων κριὸν διάλευκον καὶ πα̃ν ποικίλον ἐν τοι̃ς ἀμνοι̃ς καὶ διεχώρισεν ἑαυτω̨̃ ποίμνια καθ' ἑαυτὸν καὶ οὐκ ἔμιξεν αὐτὰ εἰς τὰ πρόβατα Λαβαν (Ⅳ) - 40 ׃30 והכשבים הפריד יעקב ויתן פני הצאן אל עקד וכל חום בצאן לבן וישת לו עדרים לבדו ולא שתם על צאן לבן (Ⅴ)

Igitur quando primo tempore ascendebantur oves, ponebat Jacob virgas in canalibus aquarum ante oculos arietum et ovium, ut in earum contemplatione conciperent :
- Toutes les fois que les brebis vigoureuses entraient en chaleur, Jacob plaçait les branches dans les auges, sous les yeux des brebis, pour qu'elles entrassent en chaleur près des branches. (Ⅱ) - And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods. (Ⅲ) - ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τω̨̃ καιρω̨̃ ὡ̨̃ ἐνεκίσσησεν τὰ πρόβατα ἐν γαστρὶ λαμβάνοντα ἔθηκεν Ιακωβ τὰς ῥάβδους ἐναντίον τω̃ν προβάτων ἐν ται̃ς ληνοι̃ς του̃ ἐγκισση̃σαι αὐτὰ κατὰ τὰς ῥάβδους (Ⅳ) - 41 ׃30 והיה בכל יחם הצאן המקשרות ושם יעקב את המקלות לעיני הצאן ברהטים ליחמנה במקלות (Ⅴ)

quando vero serotina admissura erat, et conceptus extremus, non ponebat eas. Factaque sunt ea quæ erant serotina, Laban : et quæ primi temporis, Jacob.
- Quand les brebis étaient chétives, il ne les plaçait point; de sorte que les chétives étaient pour Laban, et les vigoureuses pour Jacob. (Ⅱ) - But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's. (Ⅲ) - ἡνίκα δ' ἂν ἔτεκον τὰ πρόβατα οὐκ ἐτίθει ἐγένετο δὲ τὰ ἄσημα του̃ Λαβαν τὰ δὲ ἐπίσημα του̃ Ιακωβ (Ⅳ) - 42 ׃30 ובהעטיף הצאן לא ישים והיה העטפים ללבן והקשרים ליעקב (Ⅴ)

Ditatusque est homo ultra modum, et habuit greges multos, ancillas et servos, camelos et asinos.
- Cet homme devint de plus en plus riche; il eut du menu bétail en abondance, des servantes et des serviteurs, des chameaux et des ânes. (Ⅱ) - And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐπλούτησεν ὁ ἄνθρωπος σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτω̨̃ κτήνη πολλὰ καὶ βόες καὶ παι̃δες καὶ παιδίσκαι καὶ κάμηλοι καὶ ὄνοι (Ⅳ) - 43 ׃30 ויפרץ האיש מאד מאד ויהי לו צאן רבות ושפחות ועבדים וגמלים וחמרים (Ⅴ)
