19. 1

Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

- Après cela, Nachasch, roi des fils d'Ammon, mourut, et son fils régna à sa place. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ ταυ̃τα ἀπέθανεν Ναας βασιλεὺς υἱω̃ν Αμμων καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Αναν υἱὸς αὐτου̃ ἀντ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Accidit autem ut moreretur Naas rex filiorum Ammon, et regnaret filius ejus pro eo. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃19 ויהי אחרי כן וימת נחש מלך בני עמון וימלך בנו תחתיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 2

And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

- David dit: Je montrerai de la bienveillance à Hanun, fils de Nachasch, car son père en a montré à mon égard. Et David envoya des messagers pour le consoler au sujet de son père. Lorsque les serviteurs de David arrivèrent dans le pays des fils d'Ammon auprès de Hanun, pour le consoler, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ ποιήσω ἔλεος μετὰ Αναν υἱου̃ Ναας ὡς ἐποίησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτου̃ μετ' ἐμου̃ ἔλεος καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους Δαυιδ του̃ παρακαλέσαι αὐτὸν περὶ του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ καὶ ἠ̃λθον παι̃δες Δαυιδ εἰς γη̃ν υἱω̃ν Αμμων του̃ παρακαλέσαι αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque David : Faciam misericordiam cum Hanon filio Naas : præstitit enim mihi pater ejus gratiam. Misitque David nuntios ad consolandum eum super morte patris sui. Qui cum pervenissent in terram filiorum Ammon ut consolarentur Hanon, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃19 ויאמר דויד אעשה חסד עם חנון בן נחש כי עשה אביו עמי חסד וישלח דויד מלאכים לנחמו על אביו ויבאו עבדי דויד אל ארץ בני עמון אל חנון לנחמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 3

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

- les chefs des fils d'Ammon dirent à Hanun: Penses-tu que ce soit pour honorer ton père que David t'envoie des consolateurs? N'est-ce pas pour reconnaître la ville et pour la détruire, et pour explorer le pays, que ses serviteurs sont venus auprès de toi? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πον ἄρχοντες Αμμων πρὸς Αναν μὴ δοξάζων Δαυιδ τὸν πατέρα σου ἐναντίον σου ἀπέστειλέν σοι παρακαλου̃ντας οὐχ ὅπως ἐξερευνήσωσιν τὴν πόλιν του̃ κατασκοπη̃σαι τὴν γη̃ν ἠ̃λθον παι̃δες αὐτου̃ πρὸς σέ (Ⅲ)

- dixerunt principes filiorum Ammon ad Hanon : Tu forsitan putas, quod David honoris causa in patrem tuum miserit qui consolentur te : nec animadvertis quod ut explorent, et investigent, et scrutentur terram tuam, venerint ad te servi ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃19 ויאמרו שרי בני עמון לחנון המכבד דויד את אביך בעיניך כי שלח לך מנחמים הלא בעבור לחקר ולהפך ולרגל הארץ באו עבדיו אליך פ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 4

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.

- Alors Hanun saisit les serviteurs de David, les fit raser, et fit couper leurs habits par le milieu jusqu'au haut des cuisses. Puis il les congédia. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν Αναν τοὺς παι̃δας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐξύρησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἀφει̃λεν τω̃ν μανδυω̃ν αὐτω̃ν τὸ ἥμισυ ἕως τη̃ς ἀναβολη̃ς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ)

- Igitur Hanon pueros David decalvavit, et rasit, et præcidit tunicas eorum a natibus usque ad pedes, et dimisit eos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃19 ויקח חנון את עבדי דויד ויגלחם ויכרת את מדויהם בחצי עד המפשעה וישלחם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 5

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

- David, que l'on vint informer de ce qui était arrivé à ces hommes, envoya des gens à leur rencontre, car ils étaient dans une grande confusion; et le roi leur fit dire: Restez à Jéricho jusqu'à ce que votre barbe ait repoussé, et revenez ensuite. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθον ἀπαγγει̃λαι τω̨̃ Δαυιδ περὶ τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοι̃ς ὅτι ἠ̃σαν ἠτιμωμένοι σφόδρα καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς καθίσατε ἐν Ιεριχω ἕως του̃ ἀνατει̃λαι τοὺς πώγωνας ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἀνακάμψατε (Ⅲ)

- Qui cum abiissent, et hoc mandassent David, misit in occursum eorum (grandem enim contumeliam sustinuerant) et præcepit ut manerent in Jericho, donec cresceret barba eorum, et tunc reverterentur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃19 וילכו ויגידו לדויד על האנשים וישלח לקראתם כי היו האנשים נכלמים מאד ויאמר המלך שבו בירחו עד אשר יצמח זקנכם ושבתם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 6

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachah, and out of Zobah.

- Les fils d'Ammon virent qu'ils s'étaient rendus odieux à David, et Hanun et les fils d'Ammon envoyèrent mille talents d'argent pour prendre à leur solde des chars et des cavaliers chez les Syriens de Mésopotamie et chez les Syriens de Maaca et de Tsoba. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δον οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ὅτι ἠ̨σχύνθη λαὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Αναν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων χίλια τάλαντα ἀργυρίου του̃ μισθώσασθαι ἑαυτοι̃ς ἐκ Συρίας Μεσοποταμίας καὶ ἐκ Συρίας Μοοχα καὶ ἐκ Σωβα ἅρματα καὶ ἱππει̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Videntes autem filii Ammon quod injuriam fecissent David, tam Hanon quam reliquus populus, miserunt mille talenta argenti, ut conducerent sibi de Mesopotamia, et de Syria Maacha, et de Soba currus et equites. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃19 ויראו בני עמון כי התבאשו עם דויד וישלח חנון ובני עמון אלף ככר כסף לשכר להם מן ארם נהרים ומן ארם מעכה ומצובה רכב ופרשים ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 7

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

- Ils prirent à leur solde trente-deux mille chars et le roi de Maaca avec son peuple, lesquels vinrent camper devant Médeba. Les fils d'Ammon se rassemblèrent de leurs villes, et marchèrent au combat. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐμισθώσαντο ἑαυτοι̃ς δύο καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδας ἁρμάτων καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Μωχα καὶ τὸν λαὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἠ̃λθον καὶ παρενέβαλον κατέναντι Μαιδαβα καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων συνήχθησαν ἐκ τω̃ν πόλεων αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἠ̃λθον εἰς τὸ πολεμη̃σαι (Ⅲ)

- Conduxeruntque triginta duo millia curruum, et regem Maacha cum populo ejus. Qui cum venissent, castrametati sunt e regione Medaba. Filii quoque Ammon congregati de urbibus suis venerunt ad bellum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃19 וישכרו להם שנים ושלשים אלף רכב ואת מלך מעכה ואת עמו ויבאו ויחנו לפני מידבא ובני עמון נאספו מעריהם ויבאו למלחמה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 8

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

- A cette nouvelle, David envoya contre eux Joab et toute l'armée, les hommes vaillants. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν Ιωαβ καὶ πα̃σαν τὴν στρατιὰν τω̃ν δυνατω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum audisset David, misit Joab, et omnem exercitum virorum fortium : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃19 וישמע דויד וישלח את יואב ואת כל צבא הגבורים ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 9

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

- Les fils d'Ammon sortirent, et se rangèrent en bataille à l'entrée de la ville; les rois qui étaient venus prirent position séparément dans la campagne. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθον οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ παρατάσσονται εἰς πόλεμον παρὰ τὸν πυλω̃να τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ οἱ βασιλει̃ς οἱ ἐλθόντες παρενέβαλον καθ' ἑαυτοὺς ἐν τω̨̃ πεδίω̨ (Ⅲ)

- egressique filii Ammon, direxerunt aciem juxta portam civitatis ; reges autem, qui ad auxilium ejus venerant, separatim in agro steterunt.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃19 ויצאו בני עמון ויערכו מלחמה פתח העיר והמלכים אשר באו לבדם בשדה ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 10

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

- Joab vit qu'il avait à combattre par devant et par derrière. Il choisit alors sur toute l'élite d'Israël un corps, qu'il opposa aux Syriens; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Ιωαβ ὅτι γεγόνασιν ἀντιπρόσωποι του̃ πολεμει̃ν πρὸς αὐτὸν κατὰ πρόσωπον καὶ ἐξόπισθεν καὶ ἐξελέξατο ἐκ παντὸς νεανίου ἐξ Ισραηλ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐναντίον του̃ Σύρου (Ⅲ)

- Igitur Joab, intelligens bellum ex adverso et post tergum contra se fieri, elegit viros fortissimos de universo Israël, et perrexit contra Syrum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃19 וירא יואב כי היתה פני המלחמה אליו פנים ואחור ויבחר מכל בחור בישראל ויערך לקראת ארם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 11

And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

- et il plaça sous le commandement de son frère Abischaï le reste du peuple, pour faire face aux fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον του̃ λαου̃ ἔδωκεν ἐν χειρὶ Αβεσσα ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Reliquam autem partem populi dedit sub manu Abisai fratris sui : et perrexerunt contra filios Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃19 ואת יתר העם נתן ביד אבשי אחיו ויערכו לקראת בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 12

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

- Il dit: Si les Syriens sont plus forts que moi, tu viendras à mon secours; et si les fils d'Ammon sont plus forts que toi, j'irai à ton secours. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἐὰν κρατήση̨ ὑπὲρ ἐμὲ Σύρος καὶ ἔση̨ μοι εἰς σωτηρίαν καὶ ἐὰν υἱοὶ Αμμων κρατήσωσιν ὑπὲρ σέ καὶ σώσω σε (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque : Si vicerit me Syrus, auxilio eris mihi : si autem superaverint te filii Ammon, ero tibi in præsidium. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃19 ויאמר אם תחזק ממני ארם והיית לי לתשועה סואם בני עמון יחזקו ממך והושעתיך ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 13

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

- Sois ferme, et montrons du courage pour notre peuple et pour les villes de notre Dieu, et que l'Éternel fasse ce qui lui semblera bon! (Ⅱ)

- ἀνδρίζου καὶ ἐνισχύσωμεν περὶ του̃ λαου̃ ἡμω̃ν καὶ περὶ τω̃ν πόλεων του̃ θεου̃ ἡμω̃ν καὶ κύριος τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς αὐτου̃ ποιήσει (Ⅲ)

- Confortare, et agamus viriliter pro populo nostro, et pro urbibus Dei nostri : Dominus autem, quod in conspectu suo bonum est, faciet. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃19 חזק ונתחזקה בעד עמנו ובעד ערי אלהינו ויהוה הטוב בעיניו יעשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 14

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.

- Joab, avec son peuple, s'avança pour attaquer les Syriens, et ils s'enfuirent devant lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ παρετάξατο Ιωαβ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ' αὐτου̃ κατέναντι Σύρων εἰς πόλεμον καὶ ἔφυγον ἀπ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Perrexit ergo Joab et populus qui cum eo erat, contra Syrum ad prælium : et fugavit eos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃19 ויגש יואב והעם אשר עמו לפני ארם למלחמה וינוסו מפניו ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 15

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

- Et quand les fils d'Ammon virent que les Syriens avaient pris la fuite, ils s'enfuirent aussi devant Abischaï, frère de Joab, et rentrèrent dans la ville. Et Joab revint à Jérusalem. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων εἰ̃δον ὅτι ἔφυγον Σύροι καὶ ἔφυγον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου Ιωαβ καὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου Αβεσσα του̃ ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἠ̃λθον εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Ιωαβ εἰς Ιερουσαλημ (Ⅲ)

- Porro filii Ammon videntes quod fugisset Syrus, ipsi quoque fugerunt Abisai fratrem ejus, et ingressi sunt civitatem : reversusque est etiam Joab in Jerusalem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃19 ובני עמון ראו כי נס ארם וינוסו גם הם מפני אבשי אחיו ויבאו העירה ויבא יואב ירושלם פ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 16

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

- Les Syriens, voyant qu'ils avaient été battus par Israël, envoyèrent chercher les Syriens qui étaient de l'autre côté du fleuve; et Schophach, chef de l'armée d'Hadarézer, était à leur tête. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Σύρος ὅτι ἐτροπώσατο αὐτὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους καὶ ἐξήγαγον τὸν Σύρον ἐκ του̃ πέραν του̃ ποταμου̃ καὶ Σωφαχ ἀρχιστράτηγος δυνάμεως Αδρααζαρ ἔμπροσθεν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Videns autem Syrus quod cecidisset coram Israël, misit nuntios, et adduxit Syrum, qui erat trans fluvium : Sophach autem princeps militiæ Adarezer erat dux eorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃19 וירא ארם כי נגפו לפני ישראל וישלחו מלאכים ויוציאו את ארם אשר מעבר הנהר ושופך שר צבא הדדעזר לפניהם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 17

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

- On l'annonça à David, qui assembla tout Israël, passa le Jourdain, marcha contre eux, et se prépara à les attaquer. David se rangea en bataille contre les Syriens. Mais les Syriens, après s'être battus avec lui, s'enfuirent devant Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τω̨̃ Δαυιδ καὶ συνήγαγεν τὸν πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διέβη τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ ἠ̃λθεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ παρετάξατο ἐπ' αὐτούς καὶ παρατάσσεται Σύρος ἐξ ἐναντίας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπολέμησαν αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, congregavit universum Israël, et transivit Jordanem, irruitque in eos et direxit ex adverso aciem, illis contra pugnantibus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃19 ויגד לדויד ויאסף את כל ישראל ויעבר הירדן ויבא אלהם ויערך אלהם ויערך דויד לקראת ארם מלחמה וילחמו עמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 18

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

- David leur tua les troupes de sept mille chars et quarante mille hommes de pied, et il fit mourir Schophach, chef de l'armée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔφυγεν Σύρος ἀπὸ προσώπου Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν Δαυιδ ἀπὸ του̃ Σύρου ἑπτὰ χιλιάδας ἁρμάτων καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδας πεζω̃ν καὶ τὸν Σωφαχ ἀρχιστράτηγον δυνάμεως ἀπέκτεινεν (Ⅲ)

- Fugit autem Syrus Israël, et interfecit David de Syris septem millia curruum, et quadraginta millia peditum, et Sophach exercitus principem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃19 וינס ארם מלפני ישראל ויהרג דויד מארם שבעת אלפים רכב וארבעים אלף איש רגלי ואת שופך שר הצבא המית ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 19

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

- Les serviteurs d'Hadarézer, se voyant battus par Israël, firent la paix avec David et lui furent assujettis. Et les Syriens ne voulurent plus secourir les fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δον παι̃δες Αδρααζαρ ὅτι ἐπταίκασιν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ισραηλ καὶ διέθεντο μετὰ Δαυιδ καὶ ἐδούλευσαν αὐτω̨̃ καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν Σύρος του̃ βοηθη̃σαι τοι̃ς υἱοι̃ς Αμμων ἔτι (Ⅲ)

- Videntes autem servi Adarezer se ab Israël esse superatos, transfugerunt ad David, et servierunt ei : noluitque ultra Syria auxilium præbere filiis Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃19 ויראו עבדי הדדעזר כי נגפו לפני ישראל וישלימו עם דויד ויעבדהו ולא אבה ארם להושיע את בני עמון עוד פ‬ (Ⅴ)
