3. 1  
What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
- Quel est donc l'avantage des Juifs, ou quelle est l'utilité de la circoncision? (Ⅱ)
- Τί οὖν τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ Ἰουδαίου, ἢ τίς ἡ ὠφέλεια τῆς περιτομῆς; (Ⅲ)
- Quid ergo amplius Judæo est ? aut quæ utilitas circumcisionis ? (Ⅳ)
3. 2  
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
- Il est grand de toute manière, et tout d'abord en ce que les oracles de Dieu leur ont été confiés. (Ⅱ)
- πολὺ κατὰ πάντα τρόπον. πρῶτον μὲν ⸀γὰρ ὅτι ἐπιστεύθησαν τὰ λόγια τοῦ θεοῦ. (Ⅲ)
- Multum per omnem modum. Primum quidem quia credita sunt illis eloquia Dei. (Ⅳ)
3. 3  
For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
- Eh quoi! si quelques-uns n'ont pas cru, leur incrédulité anéantira-t-elle la fidélité de Dieu? (Ⅱ)
- τί γάρ; εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες, μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ θεοῦ καταργήσει; (Ⅲ)
- Quid enim si quidam illorum non crediderunt ? numquid incredulitas illorum fidem Dei evacuabit ? Absit. (Ⅳ)
3. 4  
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
- Loin de là! Que Dieu, au contraire, soit reconnu pour vrai, et tout homme pour menteur, selon qu'il est écrit: Afin que tu sois trouvé juste dans tes paroles, Et que tu triomphes lorsqu'on te juge. (Ⅱ)
- μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, ⸀καθὼς γέγραπται· Ὅπως ἂν δικαιωθῇς ἐν τοῖς λόγοις σου καὶ ⸀νικήσεις ἐν τῷ κρίνεσθαί σε. (Ⅲ)
- Est autem Deus verax : omnis autem homo mendax, sicut scriptum est : [Ut justificeris in sermonibus tuis :/ et vincas cum judicaris.] (Ⅳ)
3. 5  
But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
- Mais si notre injustice établit la justice de Dieu, que dirons-nous? Dieu est-il injuste quand il déchaîne sa colère? (Je parle à la manière des hommes.) (Ⅱ)
- εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀδικία ἡμῶν θεοῦ δικαιοσύνην συνίστησιν, τί ἐροῦμεν; μὴ ἄδικος ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐπιφέρων τὴν ὀργήν; κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω. (Ⅲ)
- Si autem iniquitas nostra justitiam Dei commendat, quid dicemus ? Numquid iniquus est Deus, qui infert iram ? (Ⅳ)
3. 6  
God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
- Loin de là! Autrement, comment Dieu jugerait-il le monde? (Ⅱ)
- μὴ γένοιτο· ἐπεὶ πῶς κρινεῖ ὁ θεὸς τὸν κόσμον; (Ⅲ)
- secundum hominem dico. Absit. Alioquin quomodo judicabit Deus hunc mundum ? (Ⅳ)
3. 7  
For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
- Et si, par mon mensonge, la vérité de Dieu éclate davantage pour sa gloire, pourquoi suis-je moi-même encore jugé comme pécheur? (Ⅱ)
- εἰ ⸀δὲ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ ἐμῷ ψεύσματι ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, τί ἔτι κἀγὼ ὡς ἁμαρτωλὸς κρίνομαι, (Ⅲ)
- Si enim veritas Dei in meo mendacio abundavit in gloriam ipsius : quid adhuc et ego tamquam peccator judicor ? (Ⅳ)
3. 8  
And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
- Et pourquoi ne ferions-nous pas le mal afin qu'il en arrive du bien, comme quelques-uns, qui nous calomnient, prétendent que nous le disons? La condamnation de ces gens est juste. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ μὴ καθὼς βλασφημούμεθα καὶ καθώς φασίν τινες ἡμᾶς λέγειν ὅτι Ποιήσωμεν τὰ κακὰ ἵνα ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀγαθά; ὧν τὸ κρίμα ἔνδικόν ἐστιν. (Ⅲ)
- et non (sicut blasphemamur, et sicut aiunt quidam nos dicere) faciamus mala ut veniant bona : quorum damnatio justa est.\ (Ⅳ)
3. 9  
What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
- Quoi donc! sommes-nous plus excellents? Nullement. Car nous avons déjà prouvé que tous, Juifs et Grecs, sont sous l'empire du péché, (Ⅱ)
- Τί οὖν; προεχόμεθα; οὐ πάντως, προῃτιασάμεθα γὰρ Ἰουδαίους τε καὶ Ἕλληνας πάντας ὑφ’ ἁμαρτίαν εἶναι, (Ⅲ)
- Quid ergo ? præcellimus eos ? Nequaquam. Causati enim sumus Judæos et Græcos omnes sub peccato esse, (Ⅳ)
3. 10  
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
- selon qu'il est écrit: Il n'y a point de juste, Pas même un seul; (Ⅱ)
- καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι Οὐκ ἔστιν δίκαιος οὐδὲ εἷς, (Ⅲ)
- sicut scriptum est : [Quia non est justus quisquam :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 11  
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
- Nul n'est intelligent, Nul ne cherche Dieu; Tous sont égarés, tous sont pervertis; (Ⅱ)
- οὐκ ἔστιν ⸀ὁ συνίων, οὐκ ἔστιν ⸁ὁ ἐκζητῶν τὸν θεόν· (Ⅲ)
- non est intelligens, non est requirens Deum./ (Ⅳ)
3. 12  
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
- Il n'en est aucun qui fasse le bien, Pas même un seul; (Ⅱ)
- πάντες ἐξέκλιναν, ἅμα ἠχρεώθησαν· οὐκ ⸀ἔστιν ποιῶν χρηστότητα, οὐκ ἔστιν ἕως ἑνός. (Ⅲ)
- Omnes declinaverunt, simul inutiles facti sunt :/ non est qui faciat bonum, non est usque ad unum./ (Ⅳ)
3. 13  
Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
- Leur gosier est un sépulcre ouvert; Ils se servent de leurs langues pour tromper; Ils ont sous leurs lèvres un venin d'aspic; (Ⅱ)
- τάφος ἀνεῳγμένος ὁ λάρυγξ αὐτῶν, ταῖς γλώσσαις αὐτῶν ἐδολιοῦσαν, ἰὸς ἀσπίδων ὑπὸ τὰ χείλη αὐτῶν, (Ⅲ)
- Sepulchrum patens est guttur eorum,/ linguis suis dolose agebant :/ venenum aspidum sub labiis eorum :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 14  
Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
- Leur bouche est pleine de malédiction et d'amertume; (Ⅱ)
- ὧν τὸ στόμα ἀρᾶς καὶ πικρίας γέμει· (Ⅲ)
- quorum os maledictione, et amaritudine plenum est :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 15  
Their feet are swift to shed blood:
- Ils ont les pieds légers pour répandre le sang; (Ⅱ)
- ὀξεῖς οἱ πόδες αὐτῶν ἐκχέαι αἷμα, (Ⅲ)
- veloces pedes eorum ad effundendum sanguinem :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 16  
Destruction and misery are in their ways:
- La destruction et le malheur sont sur leur route; (Ⅱ)
- σύντριμμα καὶ ταλαιπωρία ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτῶν, (Ⅲ)
- contritio et infelicitas in viis eorum :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 17  
And the way of peace have they not known:
- Ils ne connaissent pas le chemin de la paix; (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ὁδὸν εἰρήνης οὐκ ἔγνωσαν. (Ⅲ)
- et viam pacis non cognoverunt :/ (Ⅳ)
3. 18  
There is no fear of God before their eyes.
- La crainte de Dieu n'est pas devant leurs yeux. (Ⅱ)
- οὐκ ἔστιν φόβος θεοῦ ἀπέναντι τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν. (Ⅲ)
- non est timor Dei ante oculos eorum.] (Ⅳ)
3. 19  
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
- Or, nous savons que tout ce que dit la loi, elle le dit à ceux qui sont sous la loi, afin que toute bouche soit fermée, et que tout le monde soit reconnu coupable devant Dieu. (Ⅱ)
- Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὅσα ὁ νόμος λέγει τοῖς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ λαλεῖ, ἵνα πᾶν στόμα φραγῇ καὶ ὑπόδικος γένηται πᾶς ὁ κόσμος τῷ θεῷ· (Ⅲ)
- Scimus autem quoniam quæcumque lex loquitur, iis, qui in lege sunt, loquitur : ut omne os obstruatur, et subditus fiat omnis mundus Deo : (Ⅳ)
3. 20  
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
- Car nul ne sera justifié devant lui par les oeuvres de la loi, puisque c'est par la loi que vient la connaissance du péché. (Ⅱ)
- διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, διὰ γὰρ νόμου ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας. (Ⅲ)
- quia ex operibus legis non justificabitur omnis caro coram illo. Per legem enim cognitio peccati.\ (Ⅳ)
3. 21  
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
- Mais maintenant, sans la loi est manifestée la justice de Dieu, à laquelle rendent témoignage la loi et les prophètes, (Ⅱ)
- Νυνὶ δὲ χωρὶς νόμου δικαιοσύνη θεοῦ πεφανέρωται, μαρτυρουμένη ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου καὶ τῶν προφητῶν, (Ⅲ)
- Nunc autem sine lege justitia Dei manifestata est : testificata a lege et prophetis. (Ⅳ)
3. 22  
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
- justice de Dieu par la foi en Jésus Christ pour tous ceux qui croient. Il n'y a point de distinction. (Ⅱ)
- δικαιοσύνη δὲ θεοῦ διὰ πίστεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, εἰς ⸀πάντας τοὺς πιστεύοντας, οὐ γάρ ἐστιν διαστολή. (Ⅲ)
- Justitia autem Dei per fidem Jesu Christi in omnes et super omnes qui credunt in eum : non enim est distinctio : (Ⅳ)
3. 23  
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- Car tous ont péché et sont privés de la gloire de Dieu; (Ⅱ)
- πάντες γὰρ ἥμαρτον καὶ ὑστεροῦνται τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ, (Ⅲ)
- omnes enim peccaverunt, et egent gloria Dei. (Ⅳ)
3. 24  
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
- et ils sont gratuitement justifiés par sa grâce, par le moyen de la rédemption qui est en Jésus Christ. (Ⅱ)
- δικαιούμενοι δωρεὰν τῇ αὐτοῦ χάριτι διὰ τῆς ἀπολυτρώσεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ· (Ⅲ)
- Justificati gratis per gratiam ipsius, per redemptionem quæ est in Christo Jesu, (Ⅳ)
3. 25  
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
- C'est lui que Dieu a destiné, par son sang, à être, pour ceux qui croiraient victime propitiatoire, afin de montrer sa justice, parce qu'il avait laissé impunis les péchés commis auparavant, au temps de sa patience, afin, dis-je, (Ⅱ)
- ὃν προέθετο ὁ θεὸς ἱλαστήριον ⸀διὰ πίστεως ἐν τῷ αὐτοῦ αἵματι εἰς ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ διὰ τὴν πάρεσιν τῶν προγεγονότων ἁμαρτημάτων (Ⅲ)
- quem proposuit Deus propitiationem per fidem in sanguine ipsius, ad ostensionem justitiæ suæ propter remissionem præcedentium delictorum (Ⅳ)
3. 26  
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
- de montrer sa justice dans le temps présent, de manière à être juste tout en justifiant celui qui a la foi en Jésus. (Ⅱ)
- ἐν τῇ ἀνοχῇ τοῦ θεοῦ, πρὸς ⸀τὴν ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ, εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτὸν δίκαιον καὶ δικαιοῦντα τὸν ἐκ πίστεως Ἰησοῦ. (Ⅲ)
- in sustentatione Dei, ad ostensionem justitiæ ejus in hoc tempore : ut sit ipse justus, et justificans eum, qui est ex fide Jesu Christi.\ (Ⅳ)
3. 27  
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
- Où donc est le sujet de se glorifier? Il est exclu. Par quelle loi? Par la loi des oeuvres? Non, mais par la loi de la foi. (Ⅱ)
- Ποῦ οὖν ἡ καύχησις; ἐξεκλείσθη. διὰ ποίου νόμου; τῶν ἔργων; οὐχί, ἀλλὰ διὰ νόμου πίστεως. (Ⅲ)
- Ubi est ergo gloriatio tua ? Exclusa est. Per quam legem ? Factorum ? Non : sed per legem fidei. (Ⅳ)
3. 28  
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
- Car nous pensons que l'homme est justifié par la foi, sans les oeuvres de la loi. (Ⅱ)
- λογιζόμεθα ⸀γὰρ ⸂δικαιοῦσθαι πίστει⸃ ἄνθρωπον χωρὶς ἔργων νόμου. (Ⅲ)
- Arbitramur enim justificari hominem per fidem sine operibus legis. (Ⅳ)
3. 29  
Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
- Ou bien Dieu est-il seulement le Dieu des Juifs? Ne l'est-il pas aussi des païens? Oui, il l'est aussi des païens, (Ⅱ)
- ἢ Ἰουδαίων ὁ θεὸς μόνον; ⸀οὐχὶ καὶ ἐθνῶν; ναὶ καὶ ἐθνῶν, (Ⅲ)
- An Judæorum Deus tantum ? nonne et gentium ? Immo et gentium : (Ⅳ)
3. 30  
Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
- puisqu'il y a un seul Dieu, qui justifiera par la foi les circoncis, et par la foi les incirconcis. (Ⅱ)
- ⸀εἴπερ εἷς ὁ θεός, ὃς δικαιώσει περιτομὴν ἐκ πίστεως καὶ ἀκροβυστίαν διὰ τῆς πίστεως. (Ⅲ)
- quoniam quidem unus est Deus, qui justificat circumcisionem ex fide, et præputium per fidem. (Ⅳ)
3. 31  
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
- Anéantissons-nous donc la loi par la foi? Loin de là! Au contraire, nous confirmons la loi. (Ⅱ)
- νόμον οὖν καταργοῦμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως; μὴ γένοιτο, ἀλλὰ νόμον ⸀ἱστάνομεν. (Ⅲ)
- Legem ergo destruimus per fidem ? Absit : sed legem statuimus. (Ⅳ)
