J'ai vu l'insensé prendre racine; Puis soudain j'ai maudit sa demeure.
- I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation. (Ⅱ) - ἐγὼ δὲ ἑώρακα ἄφρονας ῥίζαν βάλλοντας ἀλλ' εὐθέως ἐβρώθη αὐτω̃ν ἡ δίαιτα (Ⅲ) - Ego vidi stultum firma radice,/ et maledixi pulchritudini ejus statim./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃5 אני ראיתי אויל משריש ואקוב נוהו פתאם (Ⅴ)

Plus de prospérité pour ses fils; Ils sont foulés à la porte, et personne qui les délivre!
- His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. (Ⅱ) - πόρρω γένοιντο οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτω̃ν ἀπὸ σωτηρίας κολαβρισθείησαν δὲ ἐπὶ θύραις ἡσσόνων καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἐξαιρούμενος (Ⅲ) - Longe fient filii ejus a salute,/ et conterentur in porta,/ et non erit qui eruat./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃5 ירחקו בניו מישע וידכאו בשער ואין מציל (Ⅴ)

Sa moisson est dévorée par des affamés, Qui viennent l'enlever jusque dans les épines, Et ses biens sont engloutis par des hommes altérés.
- Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance. (Ⅱ) - ἃ γὰρ ἐκει̃νοι συνήγαγον δίκαιοι ἔδονται αὐτοὶ δὲ ἐκ κακω̃ν οὐκ ἐξαίρετοι ἔσονται ἐκσιφωνισθείη αὐτω̃ν ἡ ἰσχύς (Ⅲ) - Cujus messem famelicus comedet,/ et ipsum rapiet armatus,/ et bibent sitientes divitias ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃5 אשר קצירו רעב יאכל ואל מצנים יקחהו ושאף צמים חילם (Ⅴ)

Le malheur ne sort pas de la poussière, Et la souffrance ne germe pas du sol;
- Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; (Ⅱ) - οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἐξέλθη̨ ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς κόπος οὐδὲ ἐξ ὀρέων ἀναβλαστήσει πόνος (Ⅲ) - Nihil in terra sine causa fit,/ et de humo non oritur dolor./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃5 כי לא יצא מעפר און ומאדמה לא יצמח עמל (Ⅴ)

L'homme naît pour souffrir, Comme l'étincelle pour voler.
- Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. (Ⅱ) - ἀλλὰ ἄνθρωπος γεννα̃ται κόπω̨ νεοσσοὶ δὲ γυπὸς τὰ ὑψηλὰ πέτονται (Ⅲ) - Homo nascitur ad laborem,/ et avis ad volatum./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃5 כי אדם לעמל יולד ובני רשף יגביהו עוף (Ⅴ)

Pour moi, j'aurais recours à Dieu, Et c'est à Dieu que j'exposerais ma cause.

Il fait des choses grandes et insondables, Des merveilles sans nombre;
- Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number: (Ⅱ) - τὸν ποιου̃ντα μεγάλα καὶ ἀνεξιχνίαστα ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια ὡ̃ν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός (Ⅲ) - qui facit magna et inscrutabilia,/ et mirabilia absque numero ;/ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃5 עשה גדלות ואין חקר נפלאות עד אין מספר (Ⅴ)

Il répand la pluie sur la terre, Et envoie l'eau sur les campagnes;
- Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields: (Ⅱ) - τὸν διδόντα ὑετὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν ἀποστέλλοντα ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τὴν ὑπ' οὐρανόν (Ⅲ) - qui dat pluviam super faciem terræ,/ et irrigat aquis universa ;/ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃5 הנתן מטר על פני ארץ ושלח מים על פני חוצות (Ⅴ)

Il relève les humbles, Et délivre les affligés;
- To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety. (Ⅱ) - τὸν ποιου̃ντα ταπεινοὺς εἰς ὕψος καὶ ἀπολωλότας ἐξεγείροντα (Ⅲ) - qui ponit humiles in sublime,/ et mœrentes erigit sospitate ;/ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃5 לשום שפלים למרום וקדרים שגבו ישע (Ⅴ)

Il anéantit les projets des hommes rusés, Et leurs mains ne peuvent les accomplir;
- He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. (Ⅱ) - διαλλάσσοντα βουλὰς πανούργων καὶ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν αἱ χει̃ρες αὐτω̃ν ἀληθές (Ⅲ) - qui dissipat cogitationes malignorum,/ ne possint implere manus eorum quod cœperant ;/ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃5 מפר מחשבות ערומים ולא תעשינה ידיהם תושיה (Ⅴ)

Il prend les sages dans leur propre ruse, Et les desseins des hommes artificieux sont renversés:
- He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong. (Ⅱ) - ὁ καταλαμβάνων σοφοὺς ἐν τη̨̃ φρονήσει βουλὴν δὲ πολυπλόκων ἐξέστησεν (Ⅲ) - qui apprehendit sapientes in astutia eorum,/ et consilium pravorum dissipat./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃5 לכד חכמים בערמם ועצת נפתלים נמהרה (Ⅴ)

Ils rencontrent les ténèbres au milieu du jour, Ils tâtonnent en plein midi comme dans la nuit.
- They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night. (Ⅱ) - ἡμέρας συναντήσεται αὐτοι̃ς σκότος τὸ δὲ μεσημβρινὸν ψηλαφήσαισαν ἴσα νυκτί (Ⅲ) - Per diem incurrent tenebras,/ et quasi in nocte, sic palpabunt in meridie./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃5 יומם יפגשו חשך וכלילה ימששו בצהרים (Ⅴ)

Ainsi Dieu protège le faible contre leurs menaces, Et le sauve de la main des puissants;
- But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty. (Ⅱ) - ἀπόλοιντο δὲ ἐν πολέμω̨ ἀδύνατος δὲ ἐξέλθοι ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου (Ⅲ) - Porro salvum faciet egenum a gladio oris eorum,/ et de manu violenti pauperem./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃5 וישע מחרב מפיהם ומיד חזק אביון (Ⅴ)

Et l'espérance soutient le malheureux, Mais l'iniquité ferme la bouche.

Heureux l'homme que Dieu châtie! Ne méprise pas la correction du Tout Puissant.
- Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: (Ⅱ) - μακάριος δὲ ἄνθρωπος ὃν ἤλεγξεν ὁ κύριος νουθέτημα δὲ παντοκράτορος μὴ ἀπαναίνου (Ⅲ) - Beatus homo qui corripitur a Deo :/ increpationem ergo Domini ne reprobes :/ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃5 הנה אשרי אנוש יוכחנו אלוה ומוסר שדי אל תמאס (Ⅴ)

Il fait la plaie, et il la bande; Il blesse, et sa main guérit.
- For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole. (Ⅱ) - αὐτὸς γὰρ ἀλγει̃ν ποιει̃ καὶ πάλιν ἀποκαθίστησιν ἔπαισεν καὶ αἱ χει̃ρες αὐτου̃ ἰάσαντο (Ⅲ) - quia ipse vulnerat, et medetur ;/ percutit, et manus ejus sanabunt./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃5 כי הוא יכאיב ויחבש ימחץ *וידו **וידיו תרפינה (Ⅴ)

Six fois il te délivrera de l'angoisse, Et sept fois le mal ne t'atteindra pas.
- He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. (Ⅱ) - ἑξάκις ἐξ ἀναγκω̃ν σε ἐξελει̃ται ἐν δὲ τω̨̃ ἑβδόμω̨ οὐ μὴ ἅψηταί σου κακόν (Ⅲ) - In sex tribulationibus liberabit te,/ et in septima non tanget te malum./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃5 בשש צרות יצילך ובשבע לא יגע בך רע (Ⅴ)

Il te sauvera de la mort pendant la famine, Et des coups du glaive pendant la guerre.
- In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword. (Ⅱ) - ἐν λιμω̨̃ ῥύσεταί σε ἐκ θανάτου ἐν πολέμω̨ δὲ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου λύσει σε (Ⅲ) - In fame eruet te de morte,/ et in bello de manu gladii./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃5 ברעב פדך ממות ובמלחמה מידי חרב (Ⅴ)

Tu seras à l'abri du fléau de la langue, Tu seras sans crainte quand viendra la dévastation.
- Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh. (Ⅱ) - ἀπὸ μάστιγος γλώσσης σε κρύψει καὶ οὐ μὴ φοβηθη̨̃ς ἀπὸ κακω̃ν ἐρχομένων (Ⅲ) - A flagello linguæ absconderis,/ et non timebis calamitatem cum venerit./ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃5 בשוט לשון תחבא ולא תירא משד כי יבוא (Ⅴ)

Tu te riras de la dévastation comme de la famine, Et tu n'auras pas à redouter les bêtes de la terre;
- At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth. (Ⅱ) - ἀδίκων καὶ ἀνόμων καταγελάση̨ ἀπὸ δὲ θηρίων ἀγρίων οὐ μὴ φοβηθη̨̃ς (Ⅲ) - In vastitate et fame ridebis,/ et bestias terræ non formidabis./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃5 לשד ולכפן תשחק ומחית הארץ אל תירא (Ⅴ)

Car tu feras alliance avec les pierres des champs, Et les bêtes de la terre seront en paix avec toi.
- For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee. (Ⅱ) - θη̃ρες γὰρ ἄγριοι εἰρηνεύσουσίν σοι (Ⅲ) - Sed cum lapidibus regionum pactum tuum,/ et bestiæ terræ pacificæ erunt tibi./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃5 כי עם אבני השדה בריתך וחית השדה השלמה לך (Ⅴ)

Tu jouiras du bonheur sous ta tente, Tu retrouveras tes troupeaux au complet,
- And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin. (Ⅱ) - εἰ̃τα γνώση̨ ὅτι εἰρηνεύσει σου ὁ οἰ̃κος ἡ δὲ δίαιτα τη̃ς σκηνη̃ς σου οὐ μὴ ἁμάρτη̨ (Ⅲ) - Et scies quod pacem habeat tabernaculum tuum ;/ et visitans speciem tuam, non peccabis./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃5 וידעת כי שלום אהלך ופקדת נוך ולא תחטא (Ⅴ)

Tu verras ta postérité s'accroître, Et tes rejetons se multiplier comme l'herbe des champs.
- Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth. (Ⅱ) - γνώση̨ δὲ ὅτι πολὺ τὸ σπέρμα σου τὰ δὲ τέκνα σου ἔσται ὥσπερ τὸ παμβότανον του̃ ἀγρου̃ (Ⅲ) - Scies quoque quoniam multiplex erit semen tuum,/ et progenies tua quasi herba terræ./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃5 וידעת כי רב זרעך וצאצאיך כעשב הארץ (Ⅴ)

Tu entreras au sépulcre dans la vieillesse, Comme on emporte une gerbe en son temps.
- Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season. (Ⅱ) - ἐλεύση̨ δὲ ἐν τάφω̨ ὥσπερ σι̃τος ὥριμος κατὰ καιρὸν θεριζόμενος ἢ ὥσπερ θιμωνιὰ ἅλωνος καθ' ὥραν συγκομισθει̃σα (Ⅲ) - Ingredieris in abundantia sepulchrum,/ sicut infertur acervus tritici in tempore suo./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃5 תבוא בכלח אלי קבר כעלות גדיש בעתו (Ⅴ)

Voilà ce que nous avons reconnu, voilà ce qui est; A toi d'entendre et de mettre à profit.
- Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
