1. 1  
Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;
- Après la mort de Saül, David, qui avait battu les Amalécites, était depuis deux jours revenu à Tsiklag. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανει̃ν Σαουλ καὶ Δαυιδ ἀνέστρεψεν τύπτων τὸν Αμαληκ καὶ ἐκάθισεν Δαυιδ ἐν Σεκελακ ἡμέρας δύο (Ⅲ)
- Factum est autem, postquam mortuus est Saul, ut David reverteretur a cæde Amalec, et maneret in Siceleg duos dies. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃1   ויהי אחרי מות שאול ודוד שב מהכות את העמלק וישב דוד בצקלג ימים שנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.
- Le troisième jour, un homme arriva du camp de Saül, les vêtements déchirés et la tête couverte de terre. Lorsqu'il fut en présence de David, il se jeta par terre et se prosterna. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐγενήθη τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ τρίτη̨ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἠ̃λθεν ἐκ τη̃ς παρεμβολη̃ς ἐκ του̃ λαου̃ Σαουλ καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτου̃ διερρωγότα καὶ γη̃ ἐπὶ τη̃ς κεφαλη̃ς αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τω̨̃ εἰσελθει̃ν αὐτὸν πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)
- In die autem tertia apparuit homo veniens de castris Saul veste conscissa, et pulvere conspersus caput : et ut venit ad David, cecidit super faciem suam, et adoravit. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃1   ויהי ביום השלישי והנה איש בא מן המחנה מעם שאול ובגדיו קרעים ואדמה על ראשו ויהי בבאו אל דוד ויפל ארצה וישתחו ‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
- David lui dit: D'où viens-tu? Et il lui répondit: Je me suis sauvé du camp d'Israël. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Δαυιδ πόθεν σὺ παραγίνη̨ καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτόν ἐκ τη̃ς παρεμβολη̃ς Ισραηλ ἐγὼ διασέσω̨σμαι (Ⅲ)
- Dixitque ad eum David : Unde venis ? Qui ait ad eum : De castris Israël fugi. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃1   ויאמר לו דוד אי מזה תבוא ויאמר אליו ממחנה ישראל נמלטתי ‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
- David lui dit: Que s'est-il passé? dis-moi donc! Et il répondit: Le peuple s'est enfui du champ de bataille, et un grand nombre d'hommes sont tombés et ont péri; Saül même et Jonathan, son fils, sont morts. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Δαυιδ τίς ὁ λόγος οὑ̃τος ἀπάγγειλόν μοι καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὅτι ἔφυγεν ὁ λαὸς ἐκ του̃ πολέμου καὶ πεπτώκασι πολλοὶ ἐκ του̃ λαου̃ καὶ ἀπέθανον καὶ ἀπέθανεν καὶ Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτου̃ ἀπέθανεν (Ⅲ)
- Et dixit ad eum David : Quod est verbum quod factum est ? indica mihi. Qui ait : Fugit populus ex prælio, et multi corruentes e populo mortui sunt : sed et Saul et Jonathas filius ejus interierunt. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃1   ויאמר אליו דוד מה היה הדבר הגד נא לי ויאמר אשר נס העם מן המלחמה וגם הרבה נפל מן העם וימתו וגם שאול ויהונתן בנו מתו ‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
- David dit au jeune homme qui lui apportait ces nouvelles: Comment sais-tu que Saül et Jonathan, son fils, sont morts? (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ τω̨̃ παιδαρίω̨ τω̨̃ ἀπαγγέλλοντι αὐτω̨̃ πω̃ς οἰ̃δας ὅτι τέθνηκεν Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)
- Dixitque David ad adolescentem qui nuntiabat ei : Unde scis quia mortuus est Saul, et Jonathas filius ejus ? (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃1   ויאמר דוד אל הנער המגיד לו איך ידעת כי מת שאול ויהונתן בנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.
- Et le jeune homme qui lui apportait ces nouvelles répondit: Je me trouvais sur la montagne de Guilboa; et voici, Saül s'appuyait sur sa lance, et voici, les chars et les cavaliers étaient près de l'atteindre. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν τὸ παιδάριον τὸ ἀπαγγέλλον αὐτω̨̃ περιπτώματι περιέπεσον ἐν τω̨̃ ὄρει τω̨̃ Γελβουε καὶ ἰδοὺ Σαουλ ἐπεστήρικτο ἐπὶ τὸ δόρυ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ ἅρματα καὶ οἱ ἱππάρχαι συνη̃ψαν αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)
- Et ait adolescens qui nuntiabat ei : Casu veni in montem Gelboë, et Saul incumbebat super hastam suam : porro currus et equites appropinquabant ei, (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃1   ויאמר הנער המגיד לו נקרא נקריתי בהר הגלבע והנה שאול נשען על חניתו והנה הרכב ובעלי הפרשים הדבקהו ‬ (Ⅴ)

And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.
- S'étant retourné, il m'aperçut et m'appela. Je dis: Me voici! (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃δέν με καὶ ἐκάλεσέν με καὶ εἰ̃πα ἰδοὺ ἐγώ (Ⅲ)
- et conversus post tergum suum, vidensque me, vocavit. Cui cum respondissem : Adsum : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃1   ויפן אחריו ויראני ויקרא אלי ואמר הנני ‬ (Ⅴ)

And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.
- Et il me dit: Qui es-tu? Je lui répondis: Je suis Amalécite. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πέν μοι τίς εἰ̃ σύ καὶ εἰ̃πα Αμαληκίτης ἐγώ εἰμι (Ⅲ)
- dixit mihi : Quisnam es tu ? Et aio ad eum : Amalecites ego sum. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃1   ויאמר לי מי אתה *ויאמר **ואמר אליו עמלקי אנכי ‬ (Ⅴ)
1. 9  
He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
- Et il dit: Approche donc, et donne-moi la mort; car je suis pris de vertige, quoique encore plein de vie. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρός με στη̃θι δὴ ἐπάνω μου καὶ θανάτωσόν με ὅτι κατέσχεν με σκότος δεινόν ὅτι πα̃σα ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν ἐμοί (Ⅲ)
- Et locutus est mihi : Sta super me, et interfice me : quoniam tenent me angustiæ, et adhuc tota anima mea in me est. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃1   ויאמר אלי עמד נא עלי ומתתני כי אחזני השבץ כי כל עוד נפשי בי ‬ (Ⅴ)

So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.
- Je m'approchai de lui, et je lui donnai la mort, sachant bien qu'il ne survivrait pas à sa défaite. J'ai enlevé le diadème qui était sur sa tête et le bracelet qu'il avait au bras, et je les apporte ici à mon seigneur. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐπέστην ἐπ' αὐτὸν καὶ ἐθανάτωσα αὐτόν ὅτι ἤ̨δειν ὅτι οὐ ζήσεται μετὰ τὸ πεσει̃ν αὐτόν καὶ ἔλαβον τὸ βασίλειον τὸ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτου̃ καὶ τὸν χλιδω̃να τὸν ἐπὶ του̃ βραχίονος αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐνήνοχα αὐτὰ τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου ὡ̃δε (Ⅲ)
- Stansque super eum, occidi illum : sciebam enim quod vivere non poterat post ruinam : et tuli diadema quod erat in capite ejus, et armillam de brachio illius, et attuli ad te dominum meum huc.\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃1   ואעמד עליו ואמתתהו כי ידעתי כי לא יחיה אחרי נפלו ואקח הנזר אשר על ראשו ואצעדה אשר על זרעו ואביאם אל אדני הנה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:
- David saisit ses vêtements et les déchira, et tous les hommes qui étaient auprès de lui firent de même. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐκράτησεν Δαυιδ τω̃ν ἱματίων αὐτου̃ καὶ διέρρηξεν αὐτά καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ μετ' αὐτου̃ διέρρηξαν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)
- Apprehendens autem David, vestimenta sua scidit, omnesque viri qui erant cum eo, (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃1   ויחזק דוד *בבגדו **בבגדיו ויקרעם וגם כל האנשים אשר אתו ‬ (Ⅴ)
1. 12  
And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
- Ils furent dans le deuil, pleurèrent et jeûnèrent jusqu'au soir, à cause de Saül, de Jonathan, son fils, du peuple de l'Éternel, et de la maison d'Israël, parce qu'ils étaient tombés par l'épée. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐκόψαντο καὶ ἔκλαυσαν καὶ ἐνήστευσαν ἕως δείλης ἐπὶ Σαουλ καὶ ἐπὶ Ιωναθαν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν Ιουδα καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἰ̃κον Ισραηλ ὅτι ἐπλήγησαν ἐν ῥομφαία̨ (Ⅲ)
- et planxerunt, et fleverunt, et jejunaverunt usque ad vesperam super Saul, et super Jonathan filium ejus, et super populum Domini, et super domum Israël, eo quod corruissent gladio. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 12 ׃1   ויספדו ויבכו ויצמו עד הערב על שאול ועל יהונתן בנו ועל עם יהוה ועל בית ישראל כי נפלו בחרב ס‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
- David dit au jeune homme qui lui avait apporté ces nouvelles: D'où es-tu? Et il répondit: Je suis le fils d'un étranger, d'un Amalécite. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ τω̨̃ παιδαρίω̨ τω̨̃ ἀπαγγέλλοντι αὐτω̨̃ πόθεν εἰ̃ σύ καὶ εἰ̃πεν υἱὸς ἀνδρὸς παροίκου Αμαληκίτου ἐγώ εἰμι (Ⅲ)
- Dixitque David ad juvenem qui nuntiaverat ei : Unde es tu ? Qui respondit : Filius hominis advenæ Amalecitæ ego sum. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 13 ׃1   ויאמר דוד אל הנער המגיד לו אי מזה אתה ויאמר בן איש גר עמלקי אנכי ‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?
- David lui dit: Comment n'as-tu pas craint de porter la main sur l'oint de l'Éternel et de lui donner la mort? (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Δαυιδ πω̃ς οὐκ ἐφοβήθης ἐπενεγκει̃ν χει̃ρά σου διαφθει̃ραι τὸν χριστὸν κυρίου (Ⅲ)
- Et ait ad eum David : Quare non timuisti mittere manum tuam ut occideres christum Domini ? (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 14 ׃1   ויאמר אליו דוד איך לא יראת לשלח ידך לשחת את משיח יהוה ‬ (Ⅴ)
1. 15  
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.
- Et David appela l'un de ses gens, et dit: Approche, et tue-le! Cet homme frappa l'Amalécite, qui mourut. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Δαυιδ ἓν τω̃ν παιδαρίων αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν προσελθὼν ἀπάντησον αὐτω̨̃ καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτόν καὶ ἀπέθανεν (Ⅲ)
- Vocansque David unum de pueris suis, ait : Accedens irrue in eum. Qui percussit illum, et mortuus est. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 15 ׃1   ויקרא דוד לאחד מהנערים ויאמר גש פגע בו ויכהו וימת ‬ (Ⅴ)

And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD's anointed.
- Et David lui dit: Que ton sang retombe sur ta tête, car ta bouche a déposé contre toi, puisque tu as dit: J'ai donné la mort à l'oint de l'Éternel! (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ πρὸς αὐτόν τὸ αἱ̃μά σου ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ὅτι τὸ στόμα σου ἀπεκρίθη κατὰ σου̃ λέγων ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐθανάτωσα τὸν χριστὸν κυρίου (Ⅲ)
- Et ait ad eum David : Sanguis tuus super caput tuum : os enim tuum locutum est adversum te, dicens : Ego interfeci christum Domini.\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 16 ׃1   ויאמר אליו דוד *דמיך **דמך על ראשך כי פיך ענה בך לאמר אנכי מתתי את משיח יהוה ס‬ (Ⅴ)

And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son:
- Voici le cantique funèbre que David composa sur Saül et sur Jonathan, son fils, (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐθρήνησεν Δαυιδ τὸν θρη̃νον του̃τον ἐπὶ Σαουλ καὶ ἐπὶ Ιωναθαν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)
- Planxit autem David planctum hujuscemodi super Saul, et super Jonathan filium ejus (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 17 ׃1   ויקנן דוד את הקינה הזאת על שאול ועל יהונתן בנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
- et qu'il ordonna d'enseigner aux enfants de Juda. C'est le cantique de l'arc: il est écrit dans le livre du Juste. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν του̃ διδάξαι τοὺς υἱοὺς Ιουδα ἰδοὺ γέγραπται ἐπὶ βιβλίου του̃ εὐθου̃ς (Ⅲ)
- (et præcepit ut docerent filios Juda arcum, sicut scriptum est in libro justorum), et ait : [Considera, Israël, pro his qui mortui sunt,/ super excelsa tua vulnerati./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 18 ׃1   ויאמר ללמד בני יהודה קשת הנה כתובה על ספר הישר ‬ (Ⅴ)

The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!
- L'élite d'Israël a succombé sur tes collines! Comment des héros sont-ils tombés? (Ⅱ)
- στήλωσον Ισραηλ ὑπὲρ τω̃ν τεθνηκότων ἐπὶ τὰ ὕψη σου τραυματιω̃ν πω̃ς ἔπεσαν δυνατοί (Ⅲ)
- Inclyti Israël super montes tuos interfecti sunt :/ quomodo ceciderunt fortes ?/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 19 ׃1   הצבי ישראל על במותיך חלל איך נפלו גבורים ‬ (Ⅴ)
1. 20  
Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
- Ne l'annoncez point dans Gath, N'en publiez point la nouvelle dans les rues d'Askalon, De peur que les filles des Philistins ne se réjouissent, De peur que les filles des incirconcis ne triomphent. (Ⅱ)
- μὴ ἀναγγείλητε ἐν Γεθ καὶ μὴ εὐαγγελίσησθε ἐν ται̃ς ἐξόδοις 'Ασκαλω̃νος μήποτε εὐφρανθω̃σιν θυγατέρες ἀλλοφύλων μήποτε ἀγαλλιάσωνται θυγατέρες τω̃ν ἀπεριτμήτων (Ⅲ)
- Nolite annuntiare in Geth,/ neque annuntietis in compitis Ascalonis :/ ne forte lætentur filiæ Philisthiim ;/ ne exultent filiæ incircumcisorum.]\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 20 ׃1   אל תגידו בגת אל תבשרו בחוצת אשקלון פן תשמחנה בנות פלשתים פן תעלזנה בנות הערלים ‬ (Ⅴ)

Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
- Montagnes de Guilboa! Qu'il n'y ait sur vous ni rosée ni pluie, Ni champs qui donnent des prémices pour les offrandes! Car là ont été jetés les boucliers des héros, Le bouclier de Saül; L'huile a cessé de les oindre. (Ⅱ)
- ὄρη τὰ ἐν Γελβουε μὴ καταβη̨̃ δρόσος καὶ μὴ ὑετὸς ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς καὶ ἀγροὶ ἀπαρχω̃ν ὅτι ἐκει̃ προσωχθίσθη θυρεὸς δυνατω̃ν θυρεὸς Σαουλ οὐκ ἐχρίσθη ἐν ἐλαίω̨ (Ⅲ)
- Montes Gelboë, nec ros, nec pluvia veniant super vos,/ neque sint agri primitiarum :/ quia ibi abjectus est clypeus fortium :/ clypeus Saul, quasi non esset unctus oleo.]\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 21 ׃1   הרי בגלבע אל טל ואל מטר עליכם ושדי תרומת כי שם נגעל מגן גבורים מגן שאול בלי משיח בשמן ‬ (Ⅴ)

From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
- Devant le sang des blessés, devant la graisse des plus vaillants, L'arc de Jonathan n'a jamais reculé, Et l'épée de Saül ne retournait point à vide. (Ⅱ)
- ἀφ' αἵματος τραυματιω̃ν ἀπὸ στέατος δυνατω̃ν τόξον Ιωναθαν οὐκ ἀπεστράφη κενὸν εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω καὶ ῥομφαία Σαουλ οὐκ ἀνέκαμψεν κενή (Ⅲ)
- A sanguine interfectorum, ab adipe fortium,/ sagitta Jonathæ numquam rediit retrorsum,/ et gladius Saul non est reversus inanis./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 22 ׃1   מדם חללים מחלב גבורים קשת יהונתן לא נשוג אחור וחרב שאול לא תשוב ריקם ‬ (Ⅴ)

Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
- Saül et Jonathan, aimables et chéris pendant leur vie, N'ont point été séparés dans leur mort; Ils étaient plus légers que les aigles, Ils étaient plus forts que les lions. (Ⅱ)
- Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν οἱ ἠγαπημένοι καὶ ὡραι̃οι οὐ διακεχωρισμένοι εὐπρεπει̃ς ἐν τη̨̃ ζωη̨̃ αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐν τω̨̃ θανάτω̨ αὐτω̃ν οὐ διεχωρίσθησαν ὑπὲρ ἀετοὺς κου̃φοι καὶ ὑπὲρ λέοντας ἐκραταιώθησαν (Ⅲ)
- Saul et Jonathas amabiles, et decori in vita sua,/ in morte quoque non sunt divisi :/ aquilis velociores, leonibus fortiores.]\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 23 ׃1   שאול ויהונתן הנאהבים והנעימם בחייהם ובמותם לא נפרדו מנשרים קלו מאריות גברו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put on ornaments of gold upon your apparel.
- Filles d'Israël! pleurez sur Saül, Qui vous revêtait magnifiquement de cramoisi, Qui mettait des ornements d'or sur vos habits. (Ⅱ)
- θυγατέρες Ισραηλ ἐπὶ Σαουλ κλαύσατε τὸν ἐνδιδύσκοντα ὑμα̃ς κόκκινα μετὰ κόσμου ὑμω̃ν τὸν ἀναφέροντα κόσμον χρυσου̃ν ἐπὶ τὰ ἐνδύματα ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ)
- Filiæ Israël, super Saul flete,/ qui vestiebat vos coccino in deliciis,/ qui præbebat ornamenta aurea cultui vestro.]\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 24 ׃1   בנות ישראל אל שאול בכינה המלבשכם שני עם עדנים המעלה עדי זהב על לבושכן ‬ (Ⅴ)

How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places.
