11. 1

Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.

- Jephthé, le Galaadite, était un vaillant héros. Il était fils d'une femme prostituée; et c'est Galaad qui avait engendré Jephthé. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Ιεφθαε ὁ Γαλααδίτης ἐπηρμένος δυνάμει καὶ αὐτὸς υἱὸς γυναικὸς πόρνης ἣ ἐγέννησεν τω̨̃ Γαλααδ τὸν Ιεφθαε (Ⅲ)

- Fuit illo tempore Jephte Galaadites vir fortissimus atque pugnator, filius mulieris meretricis, qui natus est de Galaad. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃11 ויפתח הגלעדי היה גבור חיל והוא בן אשה זונה ויולד גלעד את יפתח ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 2

And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.

- La femme de Galaad lui enfanta des fils, qui, devenus grands, chassèrent Jephthé, et lui dirent: Tu n'hériteras pas dans la maison de notre père, car tu es fils d'une autre femme. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔτεκεν ἡ γυνὴ Γαλααδ αὐτω̨̃ υἱούς καὶ ἡδρύνθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ τη̃ς γυναικὸς καὶ ἐξέβαλον τὸν Ιεφθαε καὶ εἰ̃παν αὐτω̨̃ οὐ κληρονομήσεις ἐν τω̨̃ οἴκω̨ του̃ πατρὸς ἡμω̃ν ὅτι υἱὸς γυναικὸς ἑταίρας σύ (Ⅲ)

- Habuit autem Galaad uxorem, de qua suscepit filios : qui postquam creverant, ejecerunt Jephte, dicentes : Hæres in domo patris nostri esse non poteris, quia de altera matre natus es. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃11 ותלד אשת גלעד לו בנים ויגדלו בני האשה ויגרשו את יפתח ויאמרו לו לא תנחל בבית אבינו כי בן אשה אחרת אתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 3

Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.

- Et Jephthé s'enfuit loin de ses frères, et il habita dans le pays de Tob. Des gens de rien se rassemblèrent auprès de Jephthé, et ils faisaient avec lui des excursions. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔφυγεν Ιεφθαε ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀδελφω̃ν αὐτου̃ καὶ ὤ̨κησεν ἐν γη̨̃ Τωβ καὶ συνεστράφησαν πρὸς Ιεφθαε ἄνδρες κενοὶ καὶ ἐξη̃λθον μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Quos ille fugiens atque devitans, habitavit in terra Tob : congregatique sunt ad eum viri inopes, et latrocinantes, et quasi principem sequebantur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃11 ויברח יפתח מפני אחיו וישב בארץ טוב ויתלקטו אל יפתח אנשים ריקים ויצאו עמו פ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 4

And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.

- Quelque temps après, les fils d'Ammon firent la guerre à Israël. (Ⅱ)

- In illis diebus pugnabant filii Ammon contra Israël. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃11 ויהי מימים וילחמו בני עמון עם ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 5

And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

- Et comme les fils d'Ammon faisaient la guerre à Israël, les anciens de Galaad allèrent chercher Jephthé au pays de Tob. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα παρετάξαντο οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων μετὰ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Γαλααδ λαβει̃ν τὸν Ιεφθαε ἀπὸ τη̃ς γη̃ς Τωβ (Ⅲ)

- Quibus acriter instantibus perrexerunt majores natu de Galaad, ut tollerent in auxilium sui Jephte de terra Tob : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃11 ויהי כאשר נלחמו בני עמון עם ישראל וילכו זקני גלעד לקחת את יפתח מארץ טוב ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 6

And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.

- Ils dirent à Jephthé: Viens, tu seras notre chef, et nous combattrons les fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν τω̨̃ Ιεφθαε δευ̃ρο καὶ ἔση̨ ἡμι̃ν εἰς ἀρχηγόν καὶ παραταξώμεθα πρὸς υἱοὺς Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- dixeruntque ad eum : Veni et esto princeps noster, et pugna contra filios Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃11 ויאמרו ליפתח לכה והייתה לנו לקצין ונלחמה בבני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 7

And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?

- Jephthé répondit aux anciens de Galaad: N'avez-vous pas eu de la haine pour moi, et ne m'avez-vous pas chassé de la maison de mon père? Pourquoi venez-vous à moi maintenant que vous êtes dans la détresse? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιεφθαε τοι̃ς πρεσβυτέροις Γαλααδ οὐχὶ ὑμει̃ς ἐμισήσατέ με καὶ ἐξεβάλετέ με ἐκ του̃ οἴκου του̃ πατρός μου καὶ ἐξαπεστείλατέ με ἀφ' ὑμω̃ν καὶ διὰ τί ἤλθατε πρός με νυ̃ν ἡνίκα χρή̨ζετε (Ⅲ)

- Quibus ille respondit : Nonne vos estis, qui odistis me, et ejecistis de domo patris mei ? et nunc venistis ad me necessitate compulsi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃11 ויאמר יפתח לזקני גלעד הלא אתם שנאתם אותי ותגרשוני מבית אבי ומדוע באתם אלי עתה כאשר צר לכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 8

And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

- Les anciens de Galaad dirent à Jephthé: Nous revenons à toi maintenant, afin que tu marches avec nous, que tu combattes les fils d'Ammon, et que tu sois notre chef, celui de tous les habitants de Galaad. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Γαλααδ πρὸς Ιεφθαε διὰ του̃το νυ̃ν ἐπεστρέψαμεν πρὸς σέ καὶ πορεύση̨ μεθ' ἡμω̃ν καὶ παρατάξη̨ πρὸς υἱοὺς Αμμων καὶ ἔση̨ ἡμι̃ν εἰς ἄρχοντα πα̃σιν τοι̃ς οἰκου̃σιν Γαλααδ (Ⅲ)

- Dixeruntque principes Galaad ad Jephte : Ob hanc igitur causam nunc ad te venimus, ut proficiscaris nobiscum, et pugnes contra filios Ammon, sisque dux omnium qui habitant in Galaad. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃11 ויאמרו זקני גלעד אל יפתח לכן עתה שבנו אליך והלכת עמנו ונלחמת בבני עמון והיית לנו לראש לכל ישבי גלעד ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 9

And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?

- Jephthé répondit aux anciens de Galaad: Si vous me ramenez pour combattre les fils d'Ammon, et que l'Éternel les livre devant moi, je serai votre chef. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιεφθαε πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους Γαλααδ εἰ ἐπιστρέφετέ με ὑμει̃ς παρατάξασθαι ἐν υἱοι̃ς Αμμων καὶ παραδω̨̃ κύριος αὐτοὺς ἐνώπιον ἐμου̃ καὶ ἐγὼ ἔσομαι ὑμι̃ν εἰς ἄρχοντα (Ⅲ)

- Jephte quoque dixit eis : Si vere venistis ad me, ut pugnem pro vobis contra filios Ammon, tradideritque eos Dominus in manus meas, ego ero vester princeps ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃11 ויאמר יפתח אל זקני גלעד אם משיבים אתם אותי להלחם בבני עמון ונתן יהוה אותם לפני אנכי אהיה לכם לראש ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 10

And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.

- Les anciens de Galaad dirent à Jephthé: Que l'Éternel nous entende, et qu'il juge, si nous ne faisons pas ce que tu dis. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Γαλααδ πρὸς Ιεφθαε κύριος ἔστω ἀκούων ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμω̃ν εἰ μὴ κατὰ τὸ ῥη̃μά σου οὕτως ποιήσομεν (Ⅲ)

- Qui responderunt ei : Dominus, qui hæc audit, ipse mediator ac testis est quod nostra promissa faciemus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃11 ויאמרו זקני גלעד אל יפתח יהוה יהיה שמע בינותינו אם לא כדברך כן נעשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 11

Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.

- Et Jephthé partit avec les anciens de Galaad. Le peuple le mit à sa tête et l'établit comme chef, et Jephthé répéta devant l'Éternel, à Mitspa, toutes les paroles qu'il avait prononcées. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ιεφθαε μετὰ τω̃ν πρεσβυτέρων Γαλααδ καὶ ἔθηκαν αὐτὸν ὁ λαὸς ἐπ' αὐτοὺς εἰς κεφαλὴν καὶ εἰς ἀρχηγόν καὶ ἐλάλησεν Ιεφθαε τοὺς λόγους αὐτου̃ πάντας ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἐν Μασσηφα (Ⅲ)

- Abiit itaque Jephte cum principibus Galaad, fecitque eum omnis populus principem sui. Locutusque est Jephte omnes sermones suos coram Domino in Maspha.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃11 וילך יפתח עם זקני גלעד וישימו העם אותו עליהם לראש ולקצין וידבר יפתח את כל דבריו לפני יהוה במצפה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 12

And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land?

- Jephthé envoya des messagers au roi des fils d'Ammon, pour lui dire: Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi, que tu viennes contre moi pour faire la guerre à mon pays? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ιεφθαε ἀγγέλους πρὸς βασιλέα υἱω̃ν Αμμων λέγων τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί ὅτι ἠ̃λθες πρός με του̃ παρατάξασθαι ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ μου (Ⅲ)

- Et misit nuntios ad regem filiorum Ammon, qui ex persona sua dicerent : Quid mihi et tibi est, quia venisti contra me, ut vastares terram meam ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃11 וישלח יפתח מלאכים אל מלך בני עמון לאמר מה לי ולך כי באת אלי להלחם בארצי ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 13

And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

- Le roi des fils d'Ammon répondit aux messagers de Jephthé: C'est qu'Israël, quand il est monté d'Égypte, s'est emparé de mon pays, depuis l'Arnon jusqu'au Jabbok et au Jourdain. Rends-le maintenant de bon gré. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν βασιλεὺς υἱω̃ν Αμμων πρὸς τοὺς ἀγγέλους Ιεφθαε ὅτι ἔλαβεν Ισραηλ τὴν γη̃ν μου ἐν τω̨̃ ἀναβαίνειν αὐτὸν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀπὸ Αρνων καὶ ἕως Ιαβοκ καὶ ἕως του̃ Ιορδάνου καὶ νυ̃ν ἐπίστρεψον αὐτὰς ἐν εἰρήνη̨ καὶ πορεύσομαι (Ⅲ)

- Quibus ille respondit : Quia tulit Israël terram meam, quando ascendit de Ægypto, a finibus Arnon usque Jaboc atque Jordanem : nunc ergo cum pace redde mihi eam. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃11 ויאמר מלך בני עמון אל מלאכי יפתח כי לקח ישראל את ארצי בעלותו ממצרים מארנון ועד היבק ועד הירדן ועתה השיבה אתהן בשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 14

And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:

- Jephthé envoya de nouveau des messagers au roi des fils d'Ammon, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προσέθηκεν ἔτι Ιεφθαε καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸς βασιλέα υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Per quos rursum mandavit Jephte, et imperavit eis ut dicerent regi Ammon : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃11 ויוסף עוד יפתח וישלח מלאכים אל מלך בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 15

And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:

- pour lui dire: Ainsi parle Jephthé: Israël ne s'est point emparé du pays de Moab, ni du pays des fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ οὕτω λέγει Ιεφθαε οὐκ ἔλαβεν Ισραηλ τὴν γη̃ν Μωαβ καὶ τὴν γη̃ν υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Hæc dicit Jephte : Non tulit Israël terram Moab, nec terram filiorum Ammon : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃11 ויאמר לו כה אמר יפתח לא לקח ישראל את ארץ מואב ואת ארץ בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 16

But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;

- Car lorsque Israël est monté d'Égypte, il a marché dans le désert jusqu'à la mer Rouge, et il est arrivé à Kadès. (Ⅱ)

- ὅτι ἐν τω̨̃ ἀναβαίνειν αὐτοὺς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἐπορεύθη Ισραηλ ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ ἕως θαλάσσης Σιφ καὶ ἠ̃λθεν εἰς Καδης (Ⅲ)

- sed quando de Ægypto conscenderunt, ambulavit per solitudinem usque ad mare Rubrum, et venit in Cades. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃11 כי בעלותם ממצרים וילך ישראל במדבר עד ים סוף ויבא קדשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 17

Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

- Alors Israël envoya des messagers au roi d'Édom, pour lui dire: Laisse-moi passer par ton pays. Mais le roi d'Édom n'y consentit pas. Il en envoya aussi au roi de Moab, qui refusa. Et Israël resta à Kadès. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ισραηλ ἀγγέλους πρὸς βασιλέα Εδωμ λέγων παρελεύσομαι δὴ ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ σου καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσεν βασιλεὺς Εδωμ καὶ πρὸς βασιλέα Μωαβ ἀπέστειλεν καὶ οὐκ εὐδόκησεν καὶ ἐκάθισεν Ισραηλ ἐν Καδης (Ⅲ)

- Misitque nuntios ad regem Edom, dicens : Dimitte me ut transeam per terram tuam. Qui noluit acquiescere precibus ejus. Misit quoque ad regem Moab, qui et ipse transitum præbere contempsit. Mansit itaque in Cades, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃11 וישלח ישראל מלאכים אל מלך אדום לאמר אעברה נא בארצך ולא שמע מלך אדום וגם אל מלך מואב שלח ולא אבה וישב ישראל בקדש ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 18

Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

- Puis il marcha par le désert, tourna le pays d'Édom et le pays de Moab, et vint à l'orient du pays de Moab; ils campèrent au delà de l'Arnon, sans entrer sur le territoire de Moab, car l'Arnon est la frontière de Moab. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ καὶ ἐκύκλωσεν τὴν γη̃ν Εδωμ καὶ τὴν γη̃ν Μωαβ καὶ ἠ̃λθεν ἀπὸ ἀνατολω̃ν ἡλίου τη̨̃ γη̨̃ Μωαβ καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν πέραν Αρνων καὶ οὐκ εἰση̃λθεν ἐν ὁρίοις Μωαβ ὅτι Αρνων ὅριον Μωαβ (Ⅲ)

- et circuivit ex latere terram Edom et terram Moab : venitque contra orientalem plagam terræ Moab, et castrametatus est trans Arnon : nec voluit intrare terminos Moab. (Arnon quippe confinium est terræ Moab.) (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃11 וילך במדבר ויסב את ארץ אדום ואת ארץ מואב ויבא ממזרח שמש לארץ מואב ויחנון בעבר ארנון ולא באו בגבול מואב כי ארנון גבול מואב ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 19

And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.

- Israël envoya des messagers à Sihon, roi des Amoréens, roi de Hesbon, et Israël lui dit: Laisse-nous passer par ton pays jusqu'au lieu où nous allons. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ισραηλ ἀγγέλους πρὸς Σηων βασιλέα του̃ Αμορραίου βασιλέα Εσεβων καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Ισραηλ παρέλθωμεν δὴ ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ σου ἕως του̃ τόπου ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Misit itaque Israël nuntios ad Sehon regem Amorrhæorum, qui habitabat in Hesebon, et dixerunt ei : Dimitte ut transeam per terram tuam usque ad fluvium. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃11 וישלח ישראל מלאכים אל סיחון מלך האמרי מלך חשבון ויאמר לו ישראל נעברה נא בארצך עד מקומי ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 20

But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

- Mais Sihon n'eut pas assez confiance en Israël pour le laisser passer sur son territoire; il rassembla tout son peuple, campa à Jahats, et combattit Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὐκ ἐνεπίστευσεν Σηων τω̨̃ Ισραηλ παρελθει̃ν ἐν ὁρίω̨ αὐτου̃ καὶ συνη̃ξεν Σηων τὸν πάντα λαὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ παρενέβαλον εἰς Ιασα καὶ παρετάξατο πρὸς Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Qui et ipse Israël verba despiciens, non dimisit eum transire per terminos suos : sed infinita multitudine congregata, egressus est contra eum in Jasa, et fortiter resistebat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃11 ולא האמין סיחון את ישראל עבר בגבלו ויאסף סיחון את כל עמו ויחנו ביהצה וילחם עם ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 21

And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

- L'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, livra Sihon et tout son peuple entre les mains d'Israël, qui les battit. Israël s'empara de tout le pays des Amoréens établis dans cette contrée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ τὸν Σηων καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτου̃ ἐν χειρὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτόν καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ισραηλ τὴν πα̃σαν γη̃ν του̃ Αμορραίου του̃ κατοικου̃ντος τὴν γη̃ν ἐκείνην (Ⅲ)

- Tradiditque eum Dominus in manus Israël cum omni exercitu suo : qui percussit eum, et possedit omnem terram Amorrhæi habitatoris regionis illius, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃11 ויתן יהוה אלהי ישראל את סיחון ואת כל עמו ביד ישראל ויכום ויירש ישראל את כל ארץ האמרי יושב הארץ ההיא ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 22

And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.

- Ils s'emparèrent de tout le territoire des Amoréens, depuis l'Arnon jusqu'au Jabbok, et depuis le désert jusqu'au Jourdain. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπὸ Αρνων καὶ ἕως του̃ Ιαβοκ καὶ ἀπὸ τη̃ς ἐρήμου ἕως του̃ Ιορδάνου (Ⅲ)

- et universos fines ejus, de Arnon usque Jaboc, et de solitudine usque ad Jordanem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃11 ויירשו את כל גבול האמרי מארנון ועד היבק ומן המדבר ועד הירדן ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 23

So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?

- Et maintenant que l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, a chassé les Amoréens devant son peuple d'Israël, est-ce toi qui aurais la possession de leur pays? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἐξη̃ρεν τὸν Αμορραι̃ον ἀπὸ προσώπου λαου̃ αὐτου̃ Ισραηλ καὶ σὺ κληρονομήσεις αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Dominus ergo Deus Israël subvertit Amorrhæum, pugnante contra illum populo suo Israël, et tu nunc vis possidere terram ejus ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃11 ועתה יהוה אלהי ישראל הוריש את האמרי מפני עמו ישראל ואתה תירשנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 24

Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

- Ce que ton dieu Kemosch te donne à posséder, ne le posséderais-tu pas? Et tout ce que l'Éternel, notre Dieu, a mis en notre possession devant nous, nous ne le posséderions pas! (Ⅱ)

- οὐχὶ ἃ ἐὰν κληρονομήσει σε Χαμως ὁ θεός σου αὐτὰ κληρονομήσεις καὶ τοὺς πάντας οὓς ἐξη̃ρεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμω̃ν ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμω̃ν αὐτοὺς κληρονομήσομεν (Ⅲ)

- nonne ea quæ possidet Chamos deus tuus, tibi jure debentur ? quæ autem Dominus Deus noster victor obtinuit, in nostram cedent possessionem : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃11 הלא את אשר יורישך כמוש אלהיך אותו תירש ואת כל אשר הוריש יהוה אלהינו מפנינו אותו נירש ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 25

And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,

- Vaux-tu donc mieux que Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab? A-t-il contesté avec Israël, ou lui a-t-il fait la guerre? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν μὴ ἐν ἀγαθω̨̃ ἀγαθώτερος σὺ ὑπὲρ Βαλακ υἱὸν Σεπφωρ βασιλέα Μωαβ μὴ μαχόμενος ἐμαχέσατο μετὰ Ισραηλ ἢ πολεμω̃ν ἐπολέμησεν αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- nisi forte melior es Balac filio Sephor rege Moab ; aut docere potes, quod jurgatus sit contra Israël, et pugnaverit contra eum, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃11 ועתה הטוב טוב אתה מבלק בן צפור מלך מואב הרוב רב עם ישראל אם נלחם נלחם בם ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 26

While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?

- Voilà trois cents ans qu'Israël habite à Hesbon et dans les villes de son ressort, à Aroër et dans les villes de son ressort, et dans toutes les villes qui sont sur les bords de l'Arnon: pourquoi ne les lui avez-vous pas enlevées pendant ce temps-là? (Ⅱ)

- ἐν τω̨̃ οἰκη̃σαι ἐν Εσεβων καὶ ἐν τοι̃ς ὁρίοις αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἐν γη̨̃ Αροηρ καὶ ἐν τοι̃ς ὁρίοις αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἐν πάσαις ται̃ς πόλεσιν ται̃ς παρὰ τὸν Ιορδάνην τριακόσια ἔτη καὶ διὰ τί οὐκ ἐρρύσω αὐτοὺς ἐν τω̨̃ καιρω̨̃ ἐκείνω̨ (Ⅲ)

- quando habitavit in Hesebon et viculis ejus, et in Aroër et villis illius, vel in cunctis civitatibus juxta Jordanem, per trecentos annos. Quare tanto tempore nihil super hac repetitione tentastis ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃11 בשבת ישראל בחשבון ובבנותיה ובערעור ובבנותיה ובכל הערים אשר על ידי ארנון שלש מאות שנה ומדוע לא הצלתם בעת ההיא ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 27

Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

- Je ne t'ai point offensé, et tu agis mal avec moi en me faisant la guerre. Que l'Éternel, le juge, soit aujourd'hui juge entre les enfants d'Israël et les fils d'Ammon! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν ἐγώ εἰμι οὐχ ἥμαρτόν σοι καὶ σὺ ποιει̃ς μετ' ἐμου̃ πονηρίαν του̃ παρατάξασθαι ἐν ἐμοί κρίναι κύριος κρίνων σήμερον ἀνὰ μέσον υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Igitur non ego pecco in te, sed tu contra me male agis, indicens mihi bella non justa. Judicet Dominus arbiter hujus diei inter Israël, et inter filios Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃11 ואנכי לא חטאתי לך ואתה עשה אתי רעה להלחם בי ישפט יהוה השפט היום בין בני ישראל ובין בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 28

Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

- Le roi des fils d'Ammon n'écouta point les paroles que Jephthé lui fit dire. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσεν βασιλεὺς υἱω̃ν Αμμων τω̃ν λόγων Ιεφθαε ὡ̃ν ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Noluitque acquiescere rex filiorum Ammon verbis Jephte, quæ per nuntios mandaverat.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃11 ולא שמע מלך בני עמון אל דברי יפתח אשר שלח אליו פ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 29

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

- L'esprit de l'Éternel fut sur Jephthé. Il traversa Galaad et Manassé; il passa à Mitspé de Galaad; et de Mitspé de Galaad, il marcha contre les fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ Ιεφθαε πνευ̃μα κυρίου καὶ παρη̃λθεν τὸν Γαλααδ καὶ τὸν Μανασση καὶ παρη̃λθεν τὴν σκοπιὰν Γαλααδ εἰς τὸ πέραν υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Factus est ergo super Jephte spiritus Domini, et circuiens Galaad et Manasse, Maspha quoque Galaad, et inde transiens ad filios Ammon, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃11 ותהי על יפתח רוח יהוה ויעבר את הגלעד ואת מנשה ויעבר את מצפה גלעד וממצפה גלעד עבר בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 30

And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,

- Jephthé fit un voeu à l'Éternel, et dit: Si tu livres entre mes mains les fils d'Ammon, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ηὔξατο Ιεφθαε εὐχὴν τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἐὰν διδοὺς δω̨̃ς τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων ἐν τη̨̃ χειρί μου (Ⅲ)

- votum vovit Domino, dicens : Si tradideris filios Ammon in manus meas, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃11 וידר יפתח נדר ליהוה ויאמר אם נתון תתן את בני עמון בידי ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 31

Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

- quiconque sortira des portes de ma maison au-devant de moi, à mon heureux retour de chez les fils d'Ammon, sera consacré à l'Éternel, et je l'offrirai en holocauste. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔσται ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ὃς ἐὰν ἐξέλθη̨ ἀπὸ τη̃ς θύρας του̃ οἴκου μου εἰς συνάντησίν μου ἐν τω̨̃ ἐπιστρέφειν με ἐν εἰρήνη̨ ἀπὸ υἱω̃ν Αμμων καὶ ἔσται τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ ἀνοίσω αὐτὸν ὁλοκαύτωμα (Ⅲ)

- quicumque primus fuerit egressus de foribus domus meæ, mihique occurrerit revertenti cum pace a filiis Ammon, eum holocaustum offeram Domino. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃11 והיה היוצא אשר יצא מדלתי ביתי לקראתי בשובי בשלום מבני עמון והיה ליהוה והעליתהו עולה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 32

So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.

- Jephthé marcha contre les fils d'Ammon, et l'Éternel les livra entre ses mains. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ παρη̃λθεν Ιεφθαε πρὸς υἱοὺς Αμμων παρατάξασθαι πρὸς αὐτούς καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐν χειρὶ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Transivitque Jephte ad filios Ammon, ut pugnaret contra eos : quos tradidit Dominus in manus ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃11 ויעבר יפתח אל בני עמון להלחם בם ויתנם‪[Q]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ יהוה בידו ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 33

And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

- Il leur fit éprouver une très grande défaite, depuis Aroër jusque vers Minnith, espace qui renfermait vingt villes, et jusqu'à Abel Keramim. Et les fils d'Ammon furent humiliés devant les enfants d'Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ Αροηρ ἕως ἐλθει̃ν ἄχρις Αρνων ἐν ἀριθμω̨̃ εἴκοσι πόλεις καὶ ἕως Εβελχαρμιν πληγὴν μεγάλην σφόδρα καὶ συνεστάλησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Percussitque ab Aroër usque dum venias in Mennith, viginti civitates, et usque ad Abel, quæ est vineis consita, plaga magna nimis : humiliatique sunt filii Ammon a filiis Israël.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃11 ויכם מערוער ועד בואך‪[C]‬‪[c]‬ מנית עשרים עיר ועד אבל כרמים מכה גדולה מאד ויכנעו בני עמון מפני בני ישראל פ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 34

And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.

- Jephthé retourna dans sa maison à Mitspa. Et voici, sa fille sortit au-devant de lui avec des tambourins et des danses. C'était son unique enfant; il n'avait point de fils et point d'autre fille. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Ιεφθαε εἰς Μασσηφα εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον αὐτου̃ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ θυγάτηρ αὐτου̃ ἐξεπορεύετο εἰς ὑπάντησιν ἐν τυμπάνοις καὶ χοροι̃ς καὶ ἠ̃ν αὕτη μονογενής οὐκ ἠ̃ν αὐτω̨̃ ἕτερος υἱὸς ἢ θυγάτηρ (Ⅲ)

- Revertente autem Jephte in Maspha domum suam, occurrit ei unigenita filia sua cum tympanis et choris : non enim habebat alios liberos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 34 ׃11 ויבא יפתח המצפה אל ביתו והנה בתו יצאת לקראתו בתפים ובמחלות ורק היא יחידה אין לו ממנו בן או בת ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 35

And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

- Dès qu'il la vit, il déchira ses vêtements, et dit: Ah! ma fille! tu me jettes dans l'abattement, tu es au nombre de ceux qui me troublent! J'ai fait un voeu à l'Éternel, et je ne puis le révoquer. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἰ̃δεν αὐτὴν αὐτός διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀ̃ ἀ̃ θυγάτηρ μου ταραχη̨̃ ἐτάραξάς με καὶ σὺ ἠ̃ς ἐν τω̨̃ ταράχω̨ μου καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ἤνοιξα κατὰ σου̃ τὸ στόμα μου πρὸς κύριον καὶ οὐ δυνήσομαι ἐπιστρέψαι (Ⅲ)

- Qua visa, scidit vestimenta sua, et ait : Heu me, filia mea ! decepisti me, et ipsa decepta es : aperui enim os meum ad Dominum, et aliud facere non potero. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 35 ׃11 ויהי כראותו אותה ויקרע את בגדיו ויאמר אהה בתי הכרע הכרעתני ואת היית‪[U]‬ בעכרי ואנכי פציתי פי אל יהוה ולא אוכל לשוב ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 36

And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.

- Elle lui dit: Mon père, si tu as fait un voeu à l'Éternel, traite-moi selon ce qui est sorti de ta bouche, maintenant que l'Éternel t'a vengé de tes ennemis, des fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- ἡ δὲ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτόν πάτερ ἤνοιξας τὸ στόμα σου πρὸς κύριον ποίησόν μοι ὃν τρόπον ἐξη̃λθεν ἐκ στόματός σου ἐν τω̨̃ ποιη̃σαί σοι κύριον ἐκδίκησιν ἀπὸ τω̃ν ἐχθρω̃ν σου ἀπὸ υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Cui illa respondit : Pater mi, si aperuisti os tuum ad Dominum, fac mihi quodcumque pollicitus es, concessa tibi ultione atque victoria de hostibus tuis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 36 ׃11 ותאמר אליו אבי פציתה את פיך אל יהוה עשה לי כאשר יצא מפיך אחרי אשר עשה לך יהוה נקמות מאיביך מבני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 37

And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.

- Et elle dit à son père: Que ceci me soit accordé: laisse-moi libre pendant deux mois! Je m'en irai, je descendrai dans les montagnes, et je pleurerai ma virginité avec mes compagnes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἥδε εἰ̃πεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα αὐτη̃ς ποιησάτω δὴ ὁ πατήρ μου τὸν λόγον του̃τον ἔασόν με δύο μη̃νας καὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ καταβήσομαι ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ κλαύσομαι ἐπὶ τὰ παρθένιά μου ἐγώ εἰμι καὶ αἱ συνεταιρίδες μου (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ad patrem : Hoc solum mihi præsta quod deprecor : dimitte me ut duobus mensibus circumeam montes, et plangam virginitatem meam cum sodalibus meis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 37 ׃11 ותאמר אל אביה יעשה לי הדבר הזה הרפה ממני שנים חדשים ואלכה וירדתי על ההרים ואבכה על בתולי אנכי *ורעיתי **ורעותי ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 38

And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.

- Il répondit: Va! Et il la laissa libre pour deux mois. Elle s'en alla avec ses compagnes, et elle pleura sa virginité sur les montagnes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πορεύου καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτὴν δύο μη̃νας καὶ ἐπορεύθη αὐτὴ καὶ αἱ συνεταιρίδες αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἔκλαυσεν ἐπὶ τὰ παρθένια αὐτη̃ς ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη (Ⅲ)

- Cui ille respondit : Vade. Et dimisit eam duobus mensibus. Cumque abiisset cum sociis ac sodalibus suis, flebat virginitatem suam in montibus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 38 ׃11 ויאמר לכי וישלח אותה שני חדשים ותלך היא ורעותיה ותבך על בתוליה על ההרים ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 39

And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

- Au bout des deux mois, elle revint vers son père, et il accomplit sur elle le voeu qu'il avait fait. Elle n'avait point connu d'homme. Dès lors s'établit en Israël la coutume (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τέλει τω̃ν δύο μηνω̃ν καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἐποίησεν ἐν αὐτη̨̃ τὴν εὐχὴν αὐτου̃ ἣν ηὔξατο καὶ αὐτὴ οὐκ ἔγνω ἄνδρα καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς πρόσταγμα ἐν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Expletisque duobus mensibus, reversa est ad patrem suum, et fecit ei sicut voverat, quæ ignorabat virum. Exinde mos increbruit in Israël, et consuetudo servata est, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 39 ׃11 ויהי מקץ שנים חדשים ותשב אל אביה ויעש לה את נדרו אשר נדר והיא לא ידעה איש ותהי חק בישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

11. 40

That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.

- que tous les ans les filles d'Israël s'en vont célébrer la fille de Jephthé, le Galaadite, quatre jours par année. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπὸ ἡμερω̃ν εἰς ἡμέρας ἐπορεύοντο θυγατέρες Ισραηλ θρηνει̃ν τὴν θυγατέρα Ιεφθαε Γαλααδ ἐπὶ τέσσαρας ἡμέρας ἐν τω̨̃ ἐνιαυτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- ut post anni circulum conveniant in unum filiæ Israël, et plangant filiam Jephte Galaaditæ diebus quatuor. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 40 ׃11 מימים ימימה תלכנה בנות ישראל לתנות לבת יפתח הגלעדי ארבעת ימים בשנה ס‬ (Ⅴ)
