9. 1

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

- Abimélec, fils de Jerubbaal, se rendit à Sichem vers les frères de sa mère, et voici comment il leur parla, ainsi qu'à toute la famille de la maison du père de sa mère: (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη Αβιμελεχ υἱὸς Ιεροβααλ εἰς Συχεμ πρὸς ἀδελφοὺς μητρὸς αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ πρὸς πα̃σαν συγγένειαν οἴκου πατρὸς μητρὸς αὐτου̃ λέγων (Ⅲ)

- Abiit autem Abimelech filius Jerobaal in Sichem ad fratres matris suæ, et locutus est ad eos, et ad omnem cognationem domus patris matris suæ, dicens : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃9 וילך אבימלך בן ירבעל שכמה אל אחי אמו וידבר אליהם ואל כל משפחת בית אבי אמו לאמר ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 2

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

- Dites, je vous prie, aux oreilles de tous les habitants de Sichem: Vaut-il mieux pour vous que soixante-dix hommes, tous fils de Jerubbaal, dominent sur vous, ou qu'un seul homme domine sur vous? Et souvenez-vous que je suis votre os et votre chair. (Ⅱ)

- λαλήσατε δὴ ἐν τοι̃ς ὠσὶν πάντων τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν Συχεμ τί τὸ ἀγαθὸν ὑμι̃ν κυριευ̃σαι ὑμω̃ν ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας πάντας υἱοὺς Ιεροβααλ ἢ κυριεύειν ὑμω̃ν ἄνδρα ἕνα καὶ μνήσθητε ὅτι ὀστου̃ν ὑμω̃ν καὶ σὰρξ ὑμω̃ν εἰμι (Ⅲ)

- Loquimini ad omnes viros Sichem : Quid vobis est melius, ut dominentur vestri septuaginta viri omnes filii Jerobaal, an ut dominetur unus vir ? simulque considerate quod os vestrum et caro vestra sum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃9 דברו נא באזני כל בעלי שכם מה טוב לכם המשל בכם שבעים איש כל בני ירבעל אם משל בכם איש אחד וזכרתם כי עצמכם‪[U]‬ ובשרכם אני‪[U]‬ ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 3

And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

- Les frères de sa mère répétèrent pour lui toutes ces paroles aux oreilles de tous les habitants de Sichem, et leur coeur inclina en faveur d'Abimélec, car ils se disaient: C'est notre frère. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐλάλησαν περὶ αὐτου̃ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ τη̃ς μητρὸς αὐτου̃ ἐν τοι̃ς ὠσὶν πάντων τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν Συχεμ πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους καὶ ἔκλινεν ἡ καρδία αὐτω̃ν ὀπίσω Αβιμελεχ ὅτι εἰ̃παν ἀδελφὸς ἡμω̃ν ἐστιν (Ⅲ)

- Locutique sunt fratres matris ejus de eo ad omnes viros Sichem universos sermones istos, et inclinaverunt cor eorum post Abimelech, dicentes : Frater noster est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃9 וידברו אחי אמו עליו באזני כל בעלי שכם את כל הדברים האלה ויט לבם אחרי אבימלך כי אמרו אחינו הוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 4

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

- Ils lui donnèrent soixante-dix sicles d'argent, qu'ils enlevèrent de la maison de Baal Berith. Abimélec s'en servit pour acheter des misérables et des turbulents, qui allèrent après lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτω̨̃ ἑβδομήκοντα ἀργυρίου ἐξ οἴκου Βααλβεριθ καὶ ἐμισθώσατο ἑαυτω̨̃ Αβιμελεχ ἄνδρας κενοὺς καὶ δειλούς καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὀπίσω αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Dederuntque illi septuaginta pondo argenti de fano Baalberit. Qui conduxit sibi ex eo viros inopes et vagos, secutique sunt eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃9 ויתנו לו שבעים כסף מבית‪[P]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ בעל‪[P]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ ברית וישכר בהם אבימלך אנשים ריקים ופחזים וילכו אחריו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 5

And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

- Il vint dans la maison de son père à Ophra, et il tua ses frères, fils de Jerubbaal, soixante-dix hommes, sur une même pierre. Il n'échappa que Jotham, le plus jeune fils de Jerubbaal, car il s'était caché. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰση̃λθεν εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ εἰς Εφραθα καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτου̃ υἱοὺς Ιεροβααλ ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἐπὶ λίθον ἕνα καὶ κατελείφθη Ιωαθαν υἱὸς Ιεροβααλ ὁ νεώτερος ὅτι ἐκρύβη (Ⅲ)

- Et venit in domum patris sui in Ephra, et occidit fratres suos filios Jerobaal, septuaginta viros super lapidem unum : remansitque Joatham filius Jerobaal minimus, et absconditus est.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃9 ויבא בית אביו עפרתה ויהרג את אחיו בני ירבעל שבעים‪[P]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ איש על אבן אחת ויותר יותם בן ירבעל הקטן כי נחבא ס‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 6

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

- Tous les habitants de Sichem et toute la maison de Millo se rassemblèrent; ils vinrent, et proclamèrent roi Abimélec, près du chêne planté dans Sichem. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ συνήχθησαν πάντες ἄνδρες Σικιμων καὶ πα̃ς οἰ̃κος Βηθμααλων καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν τὸν Αβιμελεχ πρὸς τη̨̃ βαλάνω̨ τη̨̃ εὑρετη̨̃ τη̃ς στάσεως τη̃ς ἐν Σικιμοις (Ⅲ)

- Congregati sunt autem omnes viri Sichem, et universæ familiæ urbis Mello : abieruntque et constituerunt regem Abimelech, juxta quercum quæ stabat in Sichem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃9 ויאספו כל בעלי שכם וכל בית מלוא וילכו וימליכו את אבימלך למלך עם אלון מצב אשר בשכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 7

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

- Jotham en fut informé. Il alla se placer sur le sommet de la montagne de Garizim, et voici ce qu'il leur cria à haute voix: Écoutez-moi, habitants de Sichem, et que Dieu vous écoute! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τω̨̃ Ιωαθαν καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἔστη ἐπὶ κορυφὴν ὄρους Γαριζιν καὶ ἐπη̃ρεν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς ἀκούσατέ μου ἄνδρες Σικιμων καὶ ἀκούσεται ὑμω̃ν ὁ θεός (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum nuntiatum esset Joatham, ivit, et stetit in vertice montis Garizim : elevataque voce, clamavit, et dixit : Audite me, viri Sichem ; ita audiat vos Deus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃9 ויגדו ליותם וילך ויעמד בראש הר גרזים וישא קולו ויקרא ויאמר להם שמעו אלי בעלי שכם וישמע אליכם אלהים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 8

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

- Les arbres partirent pour aller oindre un roi et le mettre à leur tête. Ils dirent à l'olivier: Règne sur nous. (Ⅱ)

- πορευόμενα ἐπορεύθη τὰ ξύλα του̃ χρι̃σαι ἐφ' ἑαυτὰ βασιλέα καὶ εἰ̃πον τη̨̃ ἐλαία̨ βασίλευσον ἐφ' ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Ierunt ligna, ut ungerent super se regem : dixeruntque olivæ : Impera nobis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃9 הלוך הלכו העצים למשח עליהם מלך ויאמרו לזית *מלוכה **מלכה עלינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 9

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

- Mais l'olivier leur répondit: Renoncerais-je à mon huile, qui m'assure les hommages de Dieu et des hommes, pour aller planer sur les arbres? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς ἡ ἐλαία μὴ ἀπολείψασα τὴν πιότητά μου ἐν ἡ̨̃ δοξάσουσι τὸν θεὸν ἄνδρες πορεύσομαι κινει̃σθαι ἐπὶ τω̃ν ξύλων (Ⅲ)

- Quæ respondit : Numquid possum deserere pinguedinem meam, qua et dii utuntur et homines, et venire ut inter ligna promovear ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃9 ויאמר להם הזית החדלתי את דשני אשר בי יכבדו אלהים ואנשים והלכתי לנוע על העצים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 10

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

- Et les arbres dirent au figuier: Viens, toi, règne sur nous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πον τὰ ξύλα τη̨̃ συκη̨̃ δευ̃ρο βασίλευσον ἐφ' ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Dixeruntque ligna ad arborem ficum : Veni, et super nos regnum accipe. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃9 ויאמרו העצים לתאנה לכי את מלכי עלינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 11

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

- Mais le figuier leur répondit: Renoncerais-je à ma douceur et à mon excellent fruit, pour aller planer sur les arbres? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς ἡ συκη̃ μὴ ἀπολείψασα ἐγὼ τὴν γλυκύτητά μου καὶ τὰ γενήματά μου τὰ ἀγαθὰ πορεύσομαι κινει̃σθαι ἐπὶ τω̃ν ξύλων (Ⅲ)

- Quæ respondit eis : Numquid possum deserere dulcedinem meam, fructusque suavissimos, et ire ut inter cetera ligna promovear ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃9 ותאמר להם התאנה החדלתי את מתקי ואת תנובתי הטובה והלכתי לנוע על העצים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 12

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

- Et les arbres dirent à la vigne: Viens, toi, règne sur nous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν τὰ ξύλα πρὸς τὴν ἄμπελον δευ̃ρο σὺ βασίλευσον ἐφ' ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Locutaque sunt ligna ad vitem : Veni, et impera nobis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃9 ויאמרו העצים לגפן לכי את *מלוכי **מלכי עלינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 13

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

- Mais la vigne leur répondit: Renoncerais-je à mon vin, qui réjouit Dieu et les hommes, pour aller planer sur les arbres? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς ἡ ἄμπελος μὴ ἀπολείψασα τὸν οἰ̃νόν μου τὸν εὐφραίνοντα θεὸν καὶ ἀνθρώπους πορεύσομαι κινει̃σθαι ἐπὶ τω̃ν ξύλων (Ⅲ)

- Quæ respondit eis : Numquid possum deserere vinum meum, quod lætificat Deum et homines, et inter ligna cetera promoveri ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃9 ותאמר להם הגפן החדלתי את תירושי המשמח אלהים ואנשים והלכתי לנוע על העצים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 14

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

- Alors tous les arbres dirent au buisson d'épines: Viens, toi, règne sur nous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν πάντα τὰ ξύλα τη̨̃ ῥάμνω̨ δευ̃ρο σὺ βασίλευσον ἐφ' ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Dixeruntque omnia ligna ad rhamnum : Veni, et impera super nos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃9 ויאמרו כל העצים אל האטד לך אתה מלך עלינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 15

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

- Et le buisson d'épines répondit aux arbres: Si c'est de bonne foi que vous voulez m'oindre pour votre roi, venez, réfugiez-vous sous mon ombrage; sinon, un feu sortira du buisson d'épines, et dévorera les cèdres du Liban. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἡ ῥάμνος πρὸς τὰ ξύλα εἰ ἐν ἀληθεία̨ χρίετέ με ὑμει̃ς του̃ βασιλεύειν ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς δευ̃τε ὑπόστητε ἐν τη̨̃ σκια̨̃ μου καὶ εἰ μή ἐξέλθη̨ πυ̃ρ ἀπ' ἐμου̃ καὶ καταφάγη̨ τὰς κέδρους του̃ Λιβάνου (Ⅲ)

- Quæ respondit eis : Si vere me regem vobis constituitis, venite, et sub umbra mea requiescite : si autem non vultis, egrediatur ignis de rhamno, et devoret cedros Libani. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃9 ויאמר האטד אל העצים אם באמת אתם משחים אתי למלך עליכם באו חסו בצלי ואם אין תצא אש מן האטד ותאכל את ארזי הלבנון ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 16

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

- Maintenant, est-ce de bonne foi et avec intégrité que vous avez agi en proclamant roi Abimélec? avez-vous eu de la bienveillance pour Jerubbaal et sa maison? l'avez-vous traité selon les services qu'il a rendus? - (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν εἰ ἐν ἀληθεία̨ καὶ τελειότητι ἐποιήσατε καὶ ἐβασιλεύσατε τὸν Αβιμελεχ καὶ εἰ ἀγαθωσύνην ἐποιήσατε μετὰ Ιεροβααλ καὶ μετὰ του̃ οἴκου αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ ὡς ἀνταπόδοσις χειρὸς αὐτου̃ ἐποιήσατε αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Nunc igitur, si recte et absque peccato constituistis super vos regem Abimelech, et bene egistis cum Jerobaal, et cum domo ejus, et reddidistis vicem beneficiis ejus, qui pugnavit pro vobis, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃9 ועתה אם באמת ובתמים עשיתם ותמליכו את אבימלך ואם טובה עשיתם עם ירבעל ועם ביתו ואם כגמול ידיו עשיתם לו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 17

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

- Car mon père a combattu pour vous, il a exposé sa vie, et il vous a délivrés de la main de Madian; (Ⅱ)

- ὡς παρετάξατο ὁ πατήρ μου ὑπὲρ ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἐξέρριψεν τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτου̃ ἐξ ἐναντίας καὶ ἐρρύσατο ὑμα̃ς ἐκ χειρὸς Μαδιαμ (Ⅲ)

- et animam suam dedit periculis, ut erueret vos de manu Madian, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃9 אשר נלחם אבי עליכם וישלך את נפשו מנגד ויצל אתכם מיד מדין ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 18

And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

- et vous, vous vous êtes levés contre la maison de mon père, vous avez tué ses fils, soixante-dix hommes, sur une même pierre, et vous avez proclamé roi sur les habitants de Sichem, Abimélec, fils de sa servante, parce qu'il est votre frère. - (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὑμει̃ς ἐπανέστητε ἐπὶ τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ πατρός μου σήμερον καὶ ἀπεκτείνατε τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτου̃ ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἐπὶ λίθον ἕνα καὶ ἐβασιλεύσατε τὸν Αβιμελεχ υἱὸν παιδίσκης αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας Σικιμων ὅτι ἀδελφὸς ὑμω̃ν ἐστιν (Ⅲ)

- qui nunc surrexistis contra domum patris mei, et interfecistis filios ejus septuaginta viros super unum lapidem, et constituistis regem Abimelech filium ancillæ ejus super habitatores Sichem, eo quod frater vester sit : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃9 ואתם קמתם על בית אבי היום ותהרגו את בניו שבעים איש על אבן אחת ותמליכו את אבימלך בן אמתו על בעלי שכם כי אחיכם הוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 19

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

- Si c'est de bonne foi et avec intégrité qu'en ce jour vous avez agi envers Jerubbaal et sa maison, eh bien! qu'Abimélec fasse votre joie, et que vous fassiez aussi la sienne! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ ἐν ἀληθεία̨ καὶ τελειότητι ἐποιήσατε μετὰ Ιεροβααλ καὶ μετὰ του̃ οἴκου αὐτου̃ ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ εὐφρανθείητε ἐν Αβιμελεχ καὶ εὐφρανθείη καί γε αὐτὸς ἐφ' ὑμι̃ν (Ⅲ)

- si ergo recte et absque vitio egistis cum Jerobaal et domo ejus, hodie lætamini in Abimelech, et ille lætetur in vobis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃9 ואם באמת ובתמים עשיתם עם ירבעל ועם ביתו היום הזה שמחו באבימלך וישמח גם הוא בכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 20

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

- Sinon, qu'un feu sorte d'Abimélec et dévore les habitants de Sichem et la maison de Millo, et qu'un feu sorte des habitants de Sichem et de la maison de Millo et dévore Abimélec! (Ⅱ)

- εἰ δὲ οὐ ἐξέλθοι πυ̃ρ ἀπὸ Αβιμελεχ καὶ φάγοι τοὺς ἄνδρας Σικιμων καὶ τὸν οἰ̃κον Βηθμααλλων καὶ ἐξέλθοι πυ̃ρ ἀπὸ ἀνδρω̃ν Σικιμων καὶ ἐκ του̃ οἴκου Βηθμααλλων καὶ καταφάγοι τὸν Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- Sin autem perverse : egrediatur ignis ex eo, et consumat habitatores Sichem, et oppidum Mello : egrediaturque ignis de viris Sichem, et de oppido Mello, et devoret Abimelech. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃9 ואם אין תצא אש מאבימלך ותאכל את בעלי שכם ואת בית מלוא ותצא אש מבעלי שכם ומבית מלוא ותאכל את אבימלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 21

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

- Jotham se retira et prit la fuite; il s'en alla à Beer, où il demeura loin d'Abimélec, son frère. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔφυγεν Ιωαθαν καὶ ἀπέδρα καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἕως Βαιηρ καὶ ὤ̨κησεν ἐκει̃ ἀπὸ προσώπου Αβιμελεχ ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Quæ cum dixisset, fugit, et abiit in Bera : habitavitque ibi ob metum Abimelech fratris sui.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃9 וינס יותם ויברח וילך בארה וישב שם מפני אבימלך אחיו פ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 22

When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,

- Abimélec avait dominé trois ans sur Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃ρξεν Αβιμελεχ ἐπὶ Ισραηλ τρία ἔτη (Ⅲ)

- Regnavit itaque Abimelech super Israël tribus annis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃9 וישר אבימלך על ישראל שלש שנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 23

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

- Alors Dieu envoya un mauvais esprit entre Abimélec et les habitants de Sichem, et les habitants de Sichem furent infidèles à Abimélec, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ὁ θεὸς πνευ̃μα πονηρὸν ἀνὰ μέσον Αβιμελεχ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν Σικιμων καὶ ἠθέτησαν ἄνδρες Σικιμων ἐν τω̨̃ οἴκω̨ Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- Misitque Dominus spiritum pessimum inter Abimelech et habitatores Sichem : qui cœperunt eum detestari, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃9 וישלח אלהים רוח רעה בין אבימלך ובין בעלי שכם ויבגדו בעלי שכם באבימלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 24

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

- afin que la violence commise sur les soixante-dix fils de Jerubbaal reçût son châtiment, et que leur sang retombât sur Abimélec, leur frère, qui les avait tués, et sur les habitants de Sichem, qui l'avaient aidé à tuer ses frères. (Ⅱ)

- του̃ ἐπαγαγει̃ν τὴν ἀδικίαν τω̃ν ἑβδομήκοντα υἱω̃ν Ιεροβααλ καὶ τὰ αἵματα αὐτω̃ν του̃ θει̃ναι ἐπὶ Αβιμελεχ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτω̃ν ὃς ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτούς καὶ ἐπὶ ἄνδρας Σικιμων ὅτι ἐνίσχυσαν τὰς χει̃ρας αὐτου̃ ἀποκτει̃ναι τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- et scelus interfectionis septuaginta filiorum Jerobaal, et effusionem sanguinis eorum conferre in Abimelech fratrem suum, et in ceteros Sichimorum principes, qui eum adjuverant. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃9 לבוא חמס שבעים בני ירבעל ודמם לשום על אבימלך אחיהם אשר הרג אותם ועל בעלי שכם אשר חזקו את ידיו להרג את אחיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 25

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

- Les habitants de Sichem placèrent en embuscade contre lui, sur les sommets des montagnes, des gens qui dépouillaient tous ceux qui passaient près d'eux sur le chemin. Et cela fut rapporté à Abimélec. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔθηκαν αὐτω̨̃ οἱ ἄνδρες Σικιμων ἐνεδρεύοντας ἐπὶ τὰς κεφαλὰς τω̃ν ὀρέων καὶ διήρπαζον πάντα ὃς παρεπορεύετο ἐπ' αὐτοὺς ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- Posueruntque insidias adversus eum in summitate montium : et dum illius præstolabantur adventum, exercebant latrocinia, agentes prædas de prætereuntibus : nuntiatumque est Abimelech. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃9 וישימו לו בעלי שכם מארבים על ראשי ההרים ויגזלו את כל אשר יעבר עליהם בדרך ויגד לאבימלך פ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 26

And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

- Gaal, fils d'Ébed, vint avec ses frères, et ils passèrent à Sichem. Les habitants de Sichem eurent confiance en lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Γααλ υἱὸς Ιωβηλ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ παρη̃λθον ἐν Σικιμοις καὶ ἠ̃λπισαν ἐν αὐτω̨̃ οἱ ἄνδρες Σικιμων (Ⅲ)

- Venit autem Gaal filius Obed cum fratribus suis, et transivit in Sichimam. Ad cujus adventum erecti habitatores Sichem, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃9 ויבא געל בן עבד ואחיו ויעברו בשכם ויבטחו בו בעלי שכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 27

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

- Ils sortirent dans la campagne, vendangèrent leurs vignes, foulèrent les raisins, et se livrèrent à des réjouissances; ils entrèrent dans la maison de leur dieu, ils mangèrent et burent, et ils maudirent Abimélec. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθον εἰς ἀγρὸν καὶ ἐτρύγησαν τοὺς ἀμπελω̃νας αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐπάτησαν καὶ ἐποίησαν ελλουλιμ καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν εἰς οἰ̃κον θεου̃ αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἔπιον καὶ κατηράσαντο τὸν Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- egressi sunt in agros, vastantes vineas, uvasque calcantes : et factis cantantium choris, ingressi sunt fanum dei sui, et inter epulas et pocula maledicebant Abimelech, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃9 ויצאו השדה ויבצרו את כרמיהם וידרכו ויעשו הלולים ויבאו בית אלהיהם ויאכלו וישתו ויקללו את אבימלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 28

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

- Et Gaal, fils d'Ébed, disait: Qui est Abimélec, et qu'est Sichem, pour que nous servions Abimélec? N'est-il pas fils de Jerubbaal, et Zebul n'est-il pas son commissaire? Servez les hommes de Hamor, père de Sichem; mais nous, pourquoi servirions-nous Abimélec? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Γααλ υἱὸς Ιωβηλ τίς ἐστιν Αβιμελεχ καὶ τίς ἐστιν υἱὸς Συχεμ ὅτι δουλεύσομεν αὐτω̨̃ οὐχ υἱὸς Ιεροβααλ καὶ Ζεβουλ ἐπίσκοπος αὐτου̃ δου̃λος αὐτου̃ σὺν τοι̃ς ἀνδράσιν Εμμωρ πατρὸς Συχεμ καὶ τί ὅτι δουλεύσομεν αὐτω̨̃ ἡμει̃ς (Ⅲ)

- clamante Gaal filio Obed : Quis est Abimelech, et quæ est Sichem, ut serviamus ei ? numquid non est filius Jerobaal, et constituit principem Zebul servum suum super viros Emor patris Sichem ? cur ergo serviemus ei ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃9 ויאמר געל בן עבד מי אבימלך ומי שכם כי נעבדנו הלא בן ירבעל וזבל פקידו עבדו את אנשי חמור אבי שכם ומדוע נעבדנו אנחנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 29

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

- Oh! si j'étais le maître de ce peuple, je renverserais Abimélec. Et il disait d'Abimélec: Renforce ton armée, mets-toi en marche! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ τίς δώ̨η τὸν λαὸν του̃τον ἐν χειρί μου καὶ μεταστήσω τὸν Αβιμελεχ καὶ ἐρω̃ πρὸς αὐτόν πλήθυνον τὴν δύναμίν σου καὶ ἔξελθε (Ⅲ)

- utinam daret aliquis populum istum sub manu mea, ut auferrem de medio Abimelech. Dictumque est Abimelech : Congrega exercitus multitudinem, et veni. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃9 ומי יתן את העם הזה בידי ואסירה את אבימלך ויאמר לאבימלך רבה צבאך וצאה ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 30

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

- Zebul, gouverneur de la ville, apprit ce que disait Gaal, fils d'Ébed, et sa colère s'enflamma. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤκουσεν Ζεβουλ ἄρχων τη̃ς πόλεως τοὺς λόγους Γααλ υἱου̃ Ιωβηλ καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμω̨̃ αὐτός (Ⅲ)

- Zebul enim princeps civitatis, auditis sermonibus Gaal filii Obed, iratus est valde, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃9 וישמע זבל שר העיר את דברי געל בן עבד ויחר אפו ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 31

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

- Il envoya secrètement des messagers à Abimélec, pour lui dire: Voici, Gaal, fils d'Ébed, et ses frères, sont venus à Sichem, et ils soulèvent la ville contre toi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸς Αβιμελεχ ἐν κρυφη̨̃ λέγων ἰδοὺ Γααλ υἱὸς Ιωβηλ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτου̃ ἔρχονται εἰς Συχεμ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτοὶ περικάθηνται τὴν πόλιν ἐπὶ σέ (Ⅲ)

- et misit clam ad Abimelech nuntios, dicens : Ecce Gaal filius Obed venit in Sichimam cum fratribus suis, et oppugnat adversum te civitatem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃9 וישלח מלאכים אל אבימלך בתרמה לאמר הנה געל בן עבד ואחיו באים שכמה והנם צרים את העיר עליך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 32

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

- Maintenant, pars de nuit, toi et le peuple qui est avec toi, et mets-toi en embuscade dans la campagne. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν ἀναστὰς νυκτὸς σὺ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετὰ σου̃ καὶ ἐνέδρευσον ἐν τω̨̃ ἀγρω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Surge itaque nocte cum populo qui tecum est, et latita in agro : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃9 ועתה קום לילה אתה והעם אשר אתך וארב בשדה ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 33

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

- Le matin, au lever du soleil, tu fondras avec impétuosité sur la ville. Et lorsque Gaal et le peuple qui est avec lui sortiront contre toi, tu lui feras ce que tes forces permettront. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔσται τὸ πρωὶ ἅμα τω̨̃ ἀνατει̃λαι τὸν ἥλιον ὀρθριει̃ς καὶ ἐκτενει̃ς ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ' αὐτου̃ ἐκπορεύονται πρὸς σέ καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτω̨̃ ὅσα ἂν εὕρη̨ ἡ χείρ σου (Ⅲ)

- et primo mane, oriente sole, irrue super civitatem. Illo autem egrediente adversum te cum populo suo, fac ei quod potueris.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃9 והיה בבקר כזרח השמש תשכים ופשטת על העיר והנה הוא והעם אשר אתו יצאים אליך ועשית לו כאשר תמצא ידך ס‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 34

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

- Abimélec et tout le peuple qui était avec lui partirent de nuit, et ils se mirent en embuscade près de Sichem, divisés en quatre corps. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνέστη Αβιμελεχ καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς μετ' αὐτου̃ νυκτὸς καὶ ἐνήδρευσαν ἐπὶ Συχεμ τέτρασιν ἀρχαι̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Surrexit itaque Abimelech cum omni exercitu suo nocte, et tetendit insidias juxta Sichimam in quatuor locis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 34 ׃9 ויקם אבימלך וכל העם אשר עמו לילה ויארבו על שכם ארבעה ראשים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 35

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.

- Gaal, fils d'Ébed, sortit, et il se tint à l'entrée de la porte de la ville. Abimélec et tout le peuple qui était avec lui se levèrent alors de l'embuscade. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν Γααλ υἱὸς Ιωβηλ καὶ ἔστη πρὸς τη̨̃ θύρα̨ τη̃ς πύλης τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ ἀνέστη Αβιμελεχ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ' αὐτου̃ ἀπὸ του̃ ἐνέδρου (Ⅲ)

- Egressusque est Gaal filius Obed, et stetit in introitu portæ civitatis. Surrexit autem Abimelech, et omnis exercitus cum eo, de insidiarum loco. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 35 ׃9 ויצא געל בן עבד ויעמד פתח שער העיר ויקם אבימלך והעם אשר אתו מן המארב ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 36

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

- Gaal aperçut le peuple, et il dit à Zebul: Voici un peuple qui descend du sommet des montagnes. Zebul lui répondit: C'est l'ombre des montagnes que tu prends pour des hommes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Γααλ υἱὸς Ιωβηλ τὸν λαὸν καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς Ζεβουλ ἰδοὺ λαὸς καταβαίνει ἀπὸ κεφαλω̃ν τω̃ν ὀρέων καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ζεβουλ τὴν σκιὰν τω̃ν ὀρέων σὺ βλέπεις ὡς ἄνδρας (Ⅲ)

- Cumque vidisset populum Gaal, dixit ad Zebul : Ecce de montibus multitudo descendit. Cui ille respondit : Umbras montium vides quasi capita hominum, et hoc errore deciperis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 36 ׃9 וירא געל את העם ויאמר אל זבל הנה עם יורד מראשי ההרים ויאמר אליו זבל את צל ההרים אתה ראה כאנשים ס‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 37

And Gaal spake again, and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

- Gaal, reprenant la parole, dit: C'est bien un peuple qui descend des hauteurs du pays, et une troupe arrive par le chemin du chêne des devins. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προσέθετο ἔτι Γααλ του̃ λαλη̃σαι καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἰδοὺ λαὸς καταβαίνων κατὰ θάλασσαν ἀπὸ του̃ ἐχόμενα ὀμφαλου̃ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ἀρχὴ ἑτέρα ἔρχεται διὰ ὁδου̃ Ηλωνμαωνενιμ (Ⅲ)

- Rursumque Gaal ait : Ecce populus de umbilico terræ descendit, et unus cuneus venit per viam quæ respicit quercum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 37 ׃9 ויסף עוד געל לדבר ויאמר הנה עם יורדים מעם טבור הארץ וראש אחד בא מדרך אלון מעוננים ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 38

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

- Zebul lui répondit: Où donc est ta bouche, toi qui disais: Qui est Abimélec, pour que nous le servions? N'est-ce point là le peuple que tu méprisais? Marche maintenant, livre-lui bataille! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ζεβουλ καὶ που̃ ἐστιν τὸ στόμα σου ὡς ἐλάλησας τίς ἐστιν Αβιμελεχ ὅτι δουλεύσομεν αὐτω̨̃ μὴ οὐχὶ οὑ̃τος ὁ λαός ὃν ἐξουδένωσας ἔξελθε δὴ νυ̃ν καὶ παράταξαι αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cui dixit Zebul : Ubi est nunc os tuum, quo loquebaris : Quis est Abimelech ut serviamus ei ? nonne hic populus est, quem despiciebas ? egredere, et pugna contra eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 38 ׃9 ויאמר אליו זבל איה אפוא פיך אשר תאמר מי אבימלך כי נעבדנו הלא זה העם אשר מאסתה בו צא נא עתה והלחם בו ס‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 39

And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

- Gaal s'avança à la tête des habitants de Sichem, et livra bataille à Abimélec. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν Γααλ ἐνώπιον ἀνδρω̃ν Συχεμ καὶ παρετάξατο πρὸς Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- Abiit ergo Gaal, spectante Sichimorum populo, et pugnavit contra Abimelech, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 39 ׃9 ויצא געל לפני בעלי שכם וילחם באבימלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 40

And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.

- Poursuivi par Abimélec, il prit la fuite devant lui, et beaucoup d'hommes tombèrent morts jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐδίωξεν αὐτὸν Αβιμελεχ καὶ ἔφυγεν ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔπεσαν τραυματίαι πολλοὶ ἕως τη̃ς θύρας τη̃ς πύλης (Ⅲ)

- qui persecutus est eum fugientem, et in urbem compulit : cecideruntque ex parte ejus plurimi, usque ad portam civitatis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 40 ׃9 וירדפהו אבימלך וינס מפניו ויפלו חללים רבים עד פתח השער ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 41

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

- Abimélec s'arrêta à Aruma. Et Zebul chassa Gaal et ses frères, qui ne purent rester à Sichem. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰση̃λθεν Αβιμελεχ ἐν Αρημα καὶ ἐξέβαλεν Ζεβουλ τὸν Γααλ καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτου̃ μὴ οἰκει̃ν ἐν Συχεμ (Ⅲ)

- Et Abimelech sedit in Ruma : Zebul autem Gaal et socios ejus expulit de urbe, nec in ea passus est commorari. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 41 ׃9 וישב אבימלך בארומה ויגרש זבל את געל ואת אחיו משבת בשכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 42

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

- Le lendemain, le peuple sortit dans la campagne. Abimélec, qui en fut informé, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο τη̨̃ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς τὸν ἀγρόν καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν τω̨̃ Αβιμελεχ (Ⅲ)

- Sequenti ergo die, egressus est populus in campum. Quod cum nuntiatum esset Abimelech, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 42 ׃9 ויהי ממחרת ויצא העם השדה ויגדו לאבימלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 43

And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

- prit sa troupe, la partagea en trois corps, et se mit en embuscade dans la campagne. Ayant vu que le peuple sortait de la ville, il se leva contre eux, et les battit. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν λαὸν καὶ διει̃λεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τρει̃ς ἀρχὰς καὶ ἐνήδρευσεν ἐν ἀγρω̨̃ καὶ εἰ̃δεν καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ λαὸς ἐξη̃λθεν ἐκ τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ ἀνέστη ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ)

- tulit exercitum suum, et divisit in tres turmas, tendens insidias in agris. Vidensque quod egrederetur populus de civitate, surrexit, et irruit in eos (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 43 ׃9 ויקח את העם ויחצם לשלשה ראשים ויארב בשדה וירא והנה העם יצא מן העיר ויקם עליהם ויכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 44

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

- Abimélec et les corps qui étaient avec lui se portèrent en avant, et se placèrent à l'entrée de la porte de la ville; deux de ces corps se jetèrent sur tous ceux qui étaient dans la campagne, et les battirent. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Αβιμελεχ καὶ οἱ ἀρχηγοὶ οἱ μετ' αὐτου̃ ἐξέτειναν καὶ ἔστησαν παρὰ τὴν θύραν τη̃ς πύλης τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ αἱ δύο ἀρχαὶ ἐξέτειναν ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ἐν τω̨̃ ἀγρω̨̃ καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτούς (Ⅲ)

- cum cuneo suo, oppugnans et obsidens civitatem : duæ autem turmæ palantes per campum adversarios persequebantur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 44 ׃9 ואבימלך והראשים אשר עמו פשטו ויעמדו פתח שער העיר ושני הראשים פשטו על כל אשר בשדה ויכום ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 45

And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

- Abimélec attaqua la ville pendant toute la journée; il s'en empara, et tua le peuple qui s'y trouvait. Puis il rasa la ville, et y sema du sel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Αβιμελεχ παρετάσσετο ἐν τη̨̃ πόλει ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐκείνην καὶ κατελάβετο τὴν πόλιν καὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν ἐν αὐτη̨̃ ἀπέκτεινεν καὶ καθει̃λεν τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἔσπειρεν εἰς ἅλας (Ⅲ)

- Porro Abimelech omni die illo oppugnabat urbem : quam cepit, interfectis habitatoribus ejus, ipsaque destructa, ita ut sal in ea dispergeret.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 45 ׃9 ואבימלך נלחם בעיר כל היום ההוא וילכד את העיר ואת העם אשר בה הרג ויתץ את העיר ויזרעה מלח פ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 46

And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.

- A cette nouvelle, tous les habitants de la tour de Sichem se rendirent dans la forteresse de la maison du dieu Berith. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤκουσαν πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες πύργων Συχεμ καὶ ἠ̃λθον εἰς συνέλευσιν Βαιθηλβεριθ (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum audissent qui habitabant in turre Sichimorum, ingressi sunt fanum dei sui Berith, ubi fœdus cum eo pepigerant, et ex eo locus nomen acceperat : qui erat munitus valde. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 46 ׃9 וישמעו כל בעלי מגדל שכם ויבאו אל צריח בית אל ברית ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 47

And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

- On avertit Abimélec que tous les habitants de la tour de Sichem s'y étaient rassemblés. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τω̨̃ Αβιμελεχ ὅτι συνήχθησαν πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες πύργων Συχεμ (Ⅲ)

- Abimelech quoque audiens viros turris Sichimorum pariter conglobatos, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 47 ׃9 ויגד לאבימלך כי התקבצו כל בעלי מגדל שכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 48

And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

- Alors Abimélec monta sur la montagne de Tsalmon, lui et tout le peuple qui était avec lui. Il prit en main une hache, coupa une branche d'arbre, l'enleva et la mit sur son épaule. Ensuite il dit au peuple qui était avec lui: Vous avez vu ce que j'ai fait, hâtez-vous de faire comme moi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνέβη Αβιμελεχ εἰς ὄρος Ερμων καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ' αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔλαβεν Αβιμελεχ τὰς ἀξίνας ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔκοψεν κλάδον ξύλου καὶ ἠ̃ρεν καὶ ἔθηκεν ἐπ' ὤμων αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ τω̨̃ μετ' αὐτου̃ ὃ εἴδετέ με ποιου̃ντα ταχέως ποιήσατε ὡς ἐγώ (Ⅲ)

- ascendit in montem Selmon cum omni populo suo : et arrepta securi, præcidit arboris ramum, impositumque ferens humero, dixit ad socios : Quod me videtis facere, cito facite. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 48 ׃9 ויעל אבימלך הר צלמון הוא וכל העם אשר אתו ויקח אבימלך את הקרדמות בידו ויכרת שוכת עצים וישאה וישם על שכמו ויאמר אל העם אשר עמו מה ראיתם עשיתי מהרו עשו כמוני ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 49

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

- Et ils coupèrent chacun une branche, et suivirent Abimélec; ils placèrent les branches contre la forteresse, et l'incendièrent avec ceux qui y étaient. Ainsi périrent tous les gens de la tour de Sichem, au nombre d'environ mille, hommes et femmes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔκοψαν καί γε ἀνὴρ κλάδον πα̃ς ἀνὴρ καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὀπίσω Αβιμελεχ καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ τὴν συνέλευσιν καὶ ἐνεπύρισαν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς τὴν συνέλευσιν ἐν πυρί καὶ ἀπέθανον καί γε πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες πύργου Σικιμων ὡς χίλιοι ἄνδρες καὶ γυναι̃κες (Ⅲ)

- Igitur certatim ramos de arboribus præcidentes, sequebantur ducem. Qui circumdantes præsidium, succenderunt : atque ita factum est, ut fumo et igne mille homines necarentur, viri pariter et mulieres, habitatorum turris Sichem.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 49 ׃9 ויכרתו גם כל העם איש שוכה וילכו אחרי אבימלך וישימו על הצריח ויציתו עליהם את הצריח באש וימתו גם כל אנשי מגדל שכם כאלף איש ואשה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

9. 50

Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

- Abimélec marcha contre Thébets. Il assiégea Thébets, et s'en empara. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη Αβιμελεχ ἐκ Βαιθηλβεριθ καὶ παρενέβαλεν ἐν Θηβης καὶ κατέλαβεν αὐτήν (Ⅲ)

- Abimelech autem inde proficiscens venit ad oppidum Thebes, quod circumdans obsidebat exercitu. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 50 ׃9 וילך אבימלך אל תבץ ויחן בתבץ וילכדה ‬ (Ⅴ)
