6. 1

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

- Les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel; et l'Éternel les livra entre les mains de Madian, pendant sept ans. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Μαδιαμ ἑπτὰ ἔτη (Ⅲ)

- Fecerunt autem filii Israël malum in conspectu Domini : qui tradidit illos in manu Madian septem annis, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃6 ויעשו בני ישראל הרע בעיני יהוה ויתנם יהוה ביד מדין שבע שנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 2

And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.

- La main de Madian fut puissante contre Israël. Pour échapper à Madian, les enfants d'Israël se retiraient dans les ravins des montagnes, dans les cavernes et sur les rochers fortifiés. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἴσχυσεν χεὶρ Μαδιαμ ἐπὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοι̃ς οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀπὸ προσώπου Μαδιαμ τὰς τρυμαλιὰς τὰς ἐν τοι̃ς ὄρεσιν καὶ τὰ σπήλαια καὶ τὰ κρεμαστά (Ⅲ)

- et oppressi sunt valde ab eis. Feceruntque sibi antra et speluncas in montibus, et munitissima ad repugnandum loca. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃6 ותעז יד מדין על ישראל מפני מדין עשו להם בני ישראל את המנהרות אשר בהרים ואת המערות ואת המצדות ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 3

And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

- Quand Israël avait semé, Madian montait avec Amalek et les fils de l'Orient, et ils marchaient contre lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐὰν ἔσπειραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἀνέβαιναν Μαδιαμ καὶ Αμαληκ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ἀνατολω̃ν συνανέβαινον αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Cumque sevisset Israël, ascendebat Madian et Amalec, ceterique orientalium nationum : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃6 והיה אם זרע ישראל ועלה מדין ועמלק ובני קדם ועלו עליו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 4

And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

- Ils campaient en face de lui, détruisaient les productions du pays jusque vers Gaza, et ne laissaient en Israël ni vivres, ni brebis, ni boeufs, ni ânes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ παρενέβαλον εἰς αὐτοὺς καὶ κατέφθειραν τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτω̃ν ἕως ἐλθει̃ν εἰς Γάζαν καὶ οὐ κατέλιπον ὑπόστασιν ζωη̃ς ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ Ισραηλ οὐδὲ ἐν τοι̃ς ποιμνίοις ταυ̃ρον καὶ ὄνον (Ⅲ)

- et apud eos figentes tentoria, sicut erant in herbis cuncta vastabant usque ad introitum Gazæ : nihilque omnino ad vitam pertinens relinquebant in Israël, non oves, non boves, non asinos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃6 ויחנו עליהם וישחיתו את יבול הארץ עד בואך עזה ולא ישאירו מחיה בישראל ושה ושור וחמור ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 5

For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.

- Car ils montaient avec leurs troupeaux et leurs tentes, ils arrivaient comme une multitude de sauterelles, ils étaient innombrables, eux et leurs chameaux, et ils venaient dans le pays pour le ravager. (Ⅱ)

- ὅτι αὐτοὶ καὶ αἱ κτήσεις αὐτω̃ν ἀνέβαινον καὶ αἱ σκηναὶ αὐτω̃ν παρεγίνοντο καθὼς ἀκρὶς εἰς πλη̃θος καὶ αὐτοι̃ς καὶ τοι̃ς καμήλοις αὐτω̃ν οὐκ ἠ̃ν ἀριθμός καὶ ἤρχοντο εἰς τὴν γη̃ν Ισραηλ καὶ διέφθειρον αὐτήν (Ⅲ)

- Ipsi enim et universi greges eorum veniebant cum tabernaculis suis, et instar locustarum universa complebant, innumera multitudo hominum et camelorum, quidquid tetigerant devastantes. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃6 כי הם ומקניהם יעלו ואהליהם *יבאו **ובאו כדי ארבה לרב ולהם ולגמליהם אין מספר ויבאו בארץ לשחתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 6

And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

- Israël fut très malheureux à cause de Madian, et les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Éternel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπτώχευσεν Ισραηλ σφόδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου Μαδιαμ καὶ ἐβόησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ πρὸς κύριον (Ⅲ)

- Humiliatusque est Israël valde in conspectu Madian. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃6 וידל ישראל מאד מפני מדין ויזעקו בני ישראל אל יהוה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 7

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,

- Lorsque les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Éternel au sujet de Madian, (Ⅱ)

- ἀπὸ προσώπου Μαδιαμ (Ⅲ)

- Et clamavit ad Dominum postulans auxilium contra Madianitas. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃6 ויהי כי זעקו בני ישראל אל יהוה על אדות מדין ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 8

That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

- l'Éternel envoya un prophète aux enfants d'Israël. Il leur dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Je vous ai fait monter d'Égypte, et je vous ai fait sortir de la maison de servitude. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν κύριος ἄνδρα προφήτην πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἐγώ εἰμι ὃς ἀνήγαγον ὑμα̃ς ἐκ γη̃ς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐξήγαγον ὑμα̃ς ἐξ οἴκου δουλείας ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Qui misit ad eos virum prophetam, et locutus est : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Ego vos feci conscendere de Ægypto, et eduxi vos de domo servitutis, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃6 וישלח יהוה איש נביא אל בני ישראל ויאמר להם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אנכי העליתי אתכם ממצרים ואציא אתכם מבית עבדים ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 9

And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

- Je vous ai délivrés de la main des Égyptiens et de la main de tous ceux qui vous opprimaient; je les ai chassés devant vous, et je vous ai donné leur pays. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐρρυσάμην ὑμα̃ς ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τω̃ν θλιβόντων ὑμα̃ς καὶ ἐξέβαλον αὐτοὺς ἐκ προσώπου ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἔδωκα ὑμι̃ν τὴν γη̃ν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- et liberavi de manu Ægyptiorum, et omnium inimicorum qui affligebant vos : ejecique eos ad introitum vestrum, et tradidi vobis terram eorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃6 ואצל אתכם מיד מצרים ומיד כל לחציכם ואגרש אותם מפניכם ואתנה לכם את ארצם ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 10

And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

- Je vous ai dit: Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu; vous ne craindrez point les dieux des Amoréens, dans le pays desquels vous habitez. Mais vous n'avez point écouté ma voix. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πα ὑμι̃ν ἐγὼ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμω̃ν οὐ φοβηθήσεσθε τοὺς θεοὺς του̃ Αμορραίου ἐν οἱ̃ς ὑμει̃ς καθήσεσθε ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ αὐτω̃ν καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατε τη̃ς φωνη̃ς μου (Ⅲ)

- Et dixi : Ego Dominus Deus vester : ne timeatis deos Amorrhæorum, in quorum terra habitatis. Et noluistis audire vocem meam.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃6 ואמרה לכם אני יהוה אלהיכם לא תיראו את אלהי האמרי אשר אתם יושבים בארצם ולא שמעתם בקולי פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 11

And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

- Puis vint l'ange de l'Éternel, et il s'assit sous le térébinthe d'Ophra, qui appartenait à Joas, de la famille d'Abiézer. Gédéon, son fils, battait du froment au pressoir, pour le mettre à l'abri de Madian. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ ἐκάθισεν ὑπὸ τὴν τερέμινθον τὴν ἐν Εφραθα τὴν Ιωας πατρὸς του̃ Εσδρι καὶ Γεδεων υἱὸς αὐτου̃ ῥαβδίζων σι̃τον ἐν ληνω̨̃ εἰς ἐκφυγει̃ν ἀπὸ προσώπου του̃ Μαδιαμ (Ⅲ)

- Venit autem angelus Domini, et sedit sub quercu, quæ erat in Ephra, et pertinebat ad Joas patrem familiæ Ezri. Cumque Gedeon filius ejus excuteret atque purgaret frumenta in torculari, ut fugeret Madian, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃6 ויבא מלאך יהוה וישב תחת האלה אשר בעפרה אשר ליואש אבי העזרי וגדעון בנו חבט חטים בגת להניס מפני מדין ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 12

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valor.

- L'ange de l'Éternel lui apparut, et lui dit: L'Éternel est avec toi, vaillant héros! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὤφθη αὐτω̨̃ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτόν κύριος μετὰ σου̃ ἰσχυρὸς τω̃ν δυνάμεων (Ⅲ)

- apparuit ei angelus Domini, et ait : Dominus tecum, virorum fortissime. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃6 וירא אליו מלאך‪[Q]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ יהוה ויאמר אליו יהוה עמך גבור החיל ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 13

And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

- Gédéon lui dit: Ah! mon seigneur, si l'Éternel est avec nous, pourquoi toutes ces choses nous sont-elles arrivées? Et où sont tous ces prodiges que nos pères nous racontent, quand ils disent: L'Éternel ne nous a-t-il pas fait monter hors d'Égypte? Maintenant l'Éternel nous abandonne, et il nous livre entre les mains de Madian! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων ἐν ἐμοί κύριέ μου καὶ εἰ ἔστιν κύριος μεθ' ἡμω̃ν εἰς τί εὑ̃ρεν ἡμα̃ς τὰ κακὰ ταυ̃τα καὶ που̃ ἐστιν πάντα τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτου̃ ἃ διηγήσαντο ἡμι̃ν οἱ πατέρες ἡμω̃ν λέγοντες μὴ οὐχὶ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀνήγαγεν ἡμα̃ς κύριος καὶ νυ̃ν ἐξέρριψεν ἡμα̃ς καὶ ἔδωκεν ἡμα̃ς ἐν χειρὶ Μαδιαμ (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ei Gedeon : Obsecro, mi domine, si Dominus nobiscum est, cur apprehenderunt nos hæc omnia ? ubi sunt mirabilia ejus, quæ narraverunt patres nostri, atque dixerunt : De Ægypto eduxit nos Dominus ? nunc autem dereliquit nos Dominus, et tradidit in manu Madian. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃6 ויאמר אליו גדעון בי אדני ויש יהוה עמנו ולמה מצאתנו כל זאת ואיה כל נפלאתיו אשר ספרו לנו אבותינו לאמר הלא ממצרים העלנו יהוה ועתה נטשנו יהוה ויתננו בכף מדין ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 14

And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

- L'Éternel se tourna vers lui, et dit: Va avec cette force que tu as, et délivre Israël de la main de Madian; n'est-ce pas moi qui t'envoie? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου καὶ εἰ̃πεν πορεύου ἐν ἰσχύι σου ταύτη̨ καὶ σώσεις τὸν Ισραηλ ἐκ χειρὸς Μαδιαμ ἰδοὺ ἐξαπέστειλά σε (Ⅲ)

- Respexitque ad eum Dominus, et ait : Vade in hac fortitudine tua, et liberabis Israël de manu Madian : scito quod miserim te. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃6 ויפן אליו יהוה ויאמר לך בכחך זה והושעת את ישראל מכף מדין הלא שלחתיך ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 15

And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.

- Gédéon lui dit: Ah! mon seigneur, avec quoi délivrerai-je Israël? Voici, ma famille est la plus pauvre en Manassé, et je suis le plus petit dans la maison de mon père. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων ἐν ἐμοί κύριέ μου ἐν τίνι σώσω τὸν Ισραηλ ἰδοὺ ἡ χιλιάς μου ἠσθένησεν ἐν Μανασση καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ μικρότερος ἐν οἴκω̨ πατρός μου (Ⅲ)

- Qui respondens ait : Obsecro, mi domine, in quo liberabo Israël ? ecce familia mea infima est in Manasse, et ego minimus in domo patris mei. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃6 ויאמר אליו בי אדני במה אושיע את ישראל הנה אלפי הדל במנשה ואנכי הצעיר בבית אבי ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 16

And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

- L'Éternel lui dit: Mais je serai avec toi, et tu battras Madian comme un seul homme. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου κύριος ἔσται μετὰ σου̃ καὶ πατάξεις τὴν Μαδιαμ ὡσεὶ ἄνδρα ἕνα (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ei Dominus : Ego ero tecum : et percuties Madian quasi unum virum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃6 ויאמר אליו יהוה כי אהיה עמך והכית את מדין כאיש אחד ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 17

And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then show me a sign that thou talkest with me.

- Gédéon lui dit: Si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, donne-moi un signe pour montrer que c'est toi qui me parles. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Γεδεων εἰ δὲ εὑ̃ρον ἔλεος ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς σου καὶ ποιήσεις μοι σήμερον πα̃ν ὅ τι ἐλάλησας μετ' ἐμου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Et ille : Si inveni, inquit, gratiam coram te, da mihi signum quod tu sis qui loqueris ad me : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃6 ויאמר אליו אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך ועשית לי אות שאתה מדבר עמי ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 18

Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.

- Ne t'éloigne point d'ici jusqu'à ce que je revienne auprès de toi, que j'apporte mon offrande, et que je la dépose devant toi. Et l'Éternel dit: Je resterai jusqu'à ce que tu reviennes. (Ⅱ)

- μὴ χωρισθη̨̃ς ἐντευ̃θεν ἕως του̃ ἐλθει̃ν με πρὸς σέ καὶ ἐξοίσω τὴν θυσίαν καὶ θήσω ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἐγώ εἰμι καθίομαι ἕως του̃ ἐπιστρέψαι σε (Ⅲ)

- nec recedas hinc, donec revertar ad te, portans sacrificium, et offerens tibi. Qui respondit : Ego præstolabor adventum tuum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃6 אל נא תמש מזה עד באי אליך והצאתי את מנחתי והנחתי לפניך ויאמר אנכי אשב עד שובך ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 19

And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.

- Gédéon entra, prépara un chevreau, et fit avec un épha de farine des pains sans levain. Il mit la chair dans un panier et le jus dans un pot, les lui apporta sous le térébinthe, et les présenta. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Γεδεων εἰση̃λθεν καὶ ἐποίησεν ἔριφον αἰγω̃ν καὶ οιφι ἀλεύρου ἄζυμα καὶ τὰ κρέα ἔθηκεν ἐν τω̨̃ κοφίνω̨ καὶ τὸν ζωμὸν ἔβαλεν ἐν τη̨̃ χύτρα̨ καὶ ἐξήνεγκεν αὐτὰ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὴν τερέμινθον καὶ προσήγγισεν (Ⅲ)

- Ingressus est itaque Gedeon, et coxit hædum, et de farinæ modio azymos panes : carnesque ponens in canistro, et jus carnium mittens in ollam, tulit omnia sub quercu, et obtulit ei. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃6 וגדעון בא ויעש גדי עזים ואיפת קמח מצות הבשר שם בסל והמרק שם בפרור ויוצא אליו אל תחת האלה ויגש ס‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 20

And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.

- L'ange de Dieu lui dit: Prends la chair et les pains sans levain, pose-les sur ce rocher, et répands le jus. Et il fit ainsi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ λαβὲ τὰ κρέα καὶ τὰ ἄζυμα καὶ θὲς πρὸς τὴν πέτραν ἐκείνην καὶ τὸν ζωμὸν ἐχόμενα ἔκχεε καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως (Ⅲ)

- Cui dixit angelus Domini : Tolle carnes et azymos panes, et pone supra petram illam, et jus desuper funde. Cumque fecisset ita, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃6 ויאמר אליו מלאך האלהים קח את הבשר ואת המצות והנח אל הסלע הלז ואת המרק שפוך ויעש כן ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 21

Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

- L'ange de l'Éternel avança l'extrémité du bâton qu'il avait à la main, et toucha la chair et les pains sans levain. Alors il s'éleva du rocher un feu qui consuma la chair et les pains sans levain. Et l'ange de l'Éternel disparut à ses yeux. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξέτεινεν ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου τὸ ἄκρον τη̃ς ῥάβδου τη̃ς ἐν χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἥψατο τω̃ν κρεω̃ν καὶ τω̃ν ἀζύμων καὶ ἀνέβη πυ̃ρ ἐκ τη̃ς πέτρας καὶ κατέφαγεν τὰ κρέα καὶ τοὺς ἀζύμους καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐπορεύθη ἀπὸ ὀφθαλμω̃ν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- extendit angelus Domini summitatem virgæ, quam tenebat in manu, et tetigit carnes et panes azymos : ascenditque ignis de petra, et carnes azymosque panes consumpsit : angelus autem Domini evanuit ex oculis ejus.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃6 וישלח מלאך יהוה את קצה המשענת אשר בידו ויגע בבשר ובמצות ותעל האש מן הצור ותאכל את הבשר ואת המצות ומלאך יהוה הלך מעיניו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 22

And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.

- Gédéon, voyant que c'était l'ange de l'Éternel, dit: Malheur à moi, Seigneur Éternel! car j'ai vu l'ange de l'Éternel face à face. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Γεδεων ὅτι ἄγγελος κυρίου οὑ̃τός ἐστιν καὶ εἰ̃πεν Γεδεων ἀ̃ ἀ̃ κύριέ μου κύριε ὅτι εἰ̃δον ἄγγελον κυρίου πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον (Ⅲ)

- Vidensque Gedeon quod esset angelus Domini, ait : Heu mi Domine Deus : quia vidi angelum Domini facie ad faciem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃6 וירא גדעון כי מלאך יהוה הוא סויאמר גדעון אהה אדני יהוה כי על כן ראיתי מלאך יהוה פנים אל פנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 23

And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

- Et l'Éternel lui dit: Sois en paix, ne crains point, tu ne mourras pas. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ κύριος εἰρήνη σοι μὴ φοβου̃ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνη̨ς (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ei Dominus : Pax tecum : ne timeas, non morieris. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃6 ויאמר לו יהוה שלום לך אל תירא לא תמות ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 24

Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

- Gédéon bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel, et lui donna pour nom l'Éternel paix: il existe encore aujourd'hui à Ophra, qui appartenait à la famille d'Abiézer. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὠ̨κοδόμησεν ἐκει̃ Γεδεων θυσιαστήριον τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ καὶ ἐπεκάλεσεν αὐτω̨̃ εἰρήνη κυρίου ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης ἔτι αὐτου̃ ὄντος ἐν Εφραθα πατρὸς του̃ Εσδρι (Ⅲ)

- Ædificavit ergo ibi Gedeon altare Domino, vocavitque illud, Domini pax, usque in præsentem diem. Cumque adhuc esset in Ephra, quæ est familiæ Ezri, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃6 ויבן שם גדעון מזבח ליהוה ויקרא לו יהוה שלום עד היום הזה עודנו בעפרת אבי העזרי פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 25

And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

- Dans la même nuit, l'Éternel dit à Gédéon: Prends le jeune taureau de ton père, et un second taureau de sept ans. Renverse l'autel de Baal qui est à ton père, et abats le pieu sacré qui est dessus. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τη̨̃ νυκτὶ ἐκείνη̨ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ κύριος λαβὲ τὸν μόσχον τὸν ταυ̃ρον ὅς ἐστιν τω̨̃ πατρί σου καὶ μόσχον δεύτερον ἑπταετη̃ καὶ καθελει̃ς τὸ θυσιαστήριον του̃ Βααλ ὅ ἐστιν τω̨̃ πατρί σου καὶ τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ' αὐτὸ ὀλεθρεύσεις (Ⅲ)

- nocte illa dixit Dominus ad eum : Tolle taurum patris tui, et alterum taurum annorum septem, destruesque aram Baal, quæ est patris tui, et nemus, quod circa aram est, succide. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃6 ויהי בלילה ההוא ויאמר לו יהוה קח את פר השור אשר לאביך ופר השני שבע שנים והרסת את מזבח הבעל אשר לאביך ואת האשרה אשר עליו תכרת ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 26

And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

- Tu bâtiras ensuite et tu disposeras, sur le haut de ce rocher, un autel à l'Éternel ton Dieu. Tu prendras le second taureau, et tu offriras un holocauste, avec le bois de l'idole que tu auras abattue. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οἰκοδομήσεις θυσιαστήριον κυρίω̨ τω̨̃ θεω̨̃ σου ἐπὶ κορυφὴν του̃ Μαουεκ τούτου ἐν τη̨̃ παρατάξει καὶ λήμψη̨ τὸν μόσχον τὸν δεύτερον καὶ ἀνοίσεις ὁλοκαύτωμα ἐν τοι̃ς ξύλοις του̃ ἄλσους οὑ̃ ἐξολεθρεύσεις (Ⅲ)

- Et ædificabis altare Domino Deo tuo in summitate petræ hujus, super quam ante sacrificium posuisti : tollesque taurum secundum, et offeres holocaustum super struem lignorum, quæ de nemore succideris. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃6 ובנית מזבח ליהוה אלהיך על ראש המעוז הזה במערכה ולקחת את הפר השני והעלית עולה בעצי האשרה אשר תכרת ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 27

Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

- Gédéon prit dix hommes parmi ses serviteurs, et fit ce que l'Éternel avait dit; mais, comme il craignait la maison de son père et les gens de la ville, il l'exécuta de nuit, et non de jour. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν Γεδεων δέκα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τω̃ν δούλων ἑαυτου̃ καὶ ἐποίησεν ὃν τρόπον ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτὸν κύριος καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς ἐφοβήθη τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ καὶ τοὺς ἄνδρας τη̃ς πόλεως του̃ ποιη̃σαι ἡμέρας καὶ ἐποίησεν νυκτός (Ⅲ)

- Assumptis ergo Gedeon decem viris de servis suis, fecit sicut præceperat ei Dominus. Timens autem domum patris sui, et homines illius civitatis, per diem noluit id facere, sed omnia nocte complevit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃6 ויקח גדעון עשרה אנשים מעבדיו ויעש כאשר דבר אליו יהוה ויהי כאשר ירא את בית אביו ואת אנשי העיר מעשות יומם ויעש לילה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 28

And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

- Lorsque les gens de la ville se furent levés de bon matin, voici, l'autel de Baal était renversé, le pieu sacré placé dessus était abattu, et le second taureau était offert en holocauste sur l'autel qui avait été bâti. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὤρθρισαν οἱ ἄνδρες τη̃ς πόλεως τὸ πρωί καὶ ἰδοὺ καθή̨ρητο τὸ θυσιαστήριον του̃ Βααλ καὶ τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ ὠλέθρευτο καὶ εἰ̃δαν τὸν μόσχον τὸν δεύτερον ὃν ἀνήνεγκεν ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ ὠ̨κοδομημένον (Ⅲ)

- Cumque surrexissent viri oppidi ejus mane, viderunt destructam aram Baal, lucumque succisum, et taurum alterum impositum super altare, quod tunc ædificatum erat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃6 וישכימו אנשי העיר בבקר והנה נתץ מזבח הבעל והאשרה אשר עליו כרתה ואת הפר השני העלה על המזבח הבנוי ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 29

And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.

- Ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: Qui a fait cela? Et ils s'informèrent et firent des recherches. On leur dit: C'est Gédéon, fils de Joas, qui a fait cela. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀνὴρ πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτου̃ τίς ἐποίησεν τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το καὶ ἐπεζήτησαν καὶ ἠρεύνησαν καὶ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι Γεδεων υἱὸς Ιωας ἐποίησεν τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το (Ⅲ)

- Dixeruntque ad invicem : Quis hoc fecit ? Cumque perquirerent auctorem facti, dictum est : Gedeon filius Joas fecit hæc omnia. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃6 ויאמרו איש אל רעהו מי עשה הדבר הזה וידרשו ויבקשו ויאמרו גדעון בן יואש עשה הדבר הזה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 30

Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.

- Alors les gens de la ville dirent à Joas: Fais sortir ton fils, et qu'il meure, car il a renversé l'autel de Baal et abattu le pieu sacré qui était dessus. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πον οἱ ἄνδρες τη̃ς πόλεως πρὸς Ιωας ἐξένεγκε τὸν υἱόν σου καὶ ἀποθανέτω ὅτι καθει̃λεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον του̃ Βααλ καὶ ὅτι ὠλέθρευσεν τὸ ἄλσος τὸ ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Et dixerunt ad Joas : Produc filium tuum huc, ut moriatur : quia destruxit aram Baal, et succidit nemus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃6 ויאמרו אנשי העיר אל יואש הוצא את בנך וימת כי נתץ את מזבח הבעל וכי כרת האשרה אשר עליו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 31

And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.

- Joas répondit à tous ceux qui se présentèrent à lui: Est-ce à vous de prendre parti pour Baal? est-ce à vous de venir à son secours? Quiconque prendra parti pour Baal mourra avant que le matin vienne. Si Baal est un dieu, qu'il plaide lui-même sa cause, puisqu'on a renversé son autel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιωας τοι̃ς ἀνδράσιν πα̃σιν οἳ ἐπανέστησαν αὐτω̨̃ μὴ ὑμει̃ς νυ̃ν δικάζεσθε ὑπὲρ του̃ Βααλ ἢ ὑμει̃ς σώσετε αὐτόν ὃς ἐὰν δικάσηται αὐτω̨̃ θανατωθήτω ἕως πρωί εἰ θεός ἐστιν δικαζέσθω αὐτω̨̃ ὅτι καθει̃λεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Quibus ille respondit : Numquid ultores estis Baal, ut pugnetis pro eo ? qui adversarius est ejus, moriatur antequam lux crastina veniat : si deus est, vindicet se de eo, qui suffodit aram ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃6 ויאמר יואש לכל אשר עמדו עליו האתם תריבון לבעל אם אתם תושיעון אותו אשר יריב לו יומת עד הבקר אם אלהים הוא ירב לו כי נתץ את מזבחו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 32

Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

- Et en ce jour l'on donna à Gédéon le nom de Jerubbaal, en disant: Que Baal plaide contre lui, puisqu'il a renversé son autel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ Ιαρβααλ λέγων δικασάσθω ἐν αὐτω̨̃ ὁ Βααλ ὅτι καθη̨ρέθη τὸ θυσιαστήριον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Ex illo die vocatus est Gedeon Jerobaal, eo quod dixisset Joas : Ulciscatur se de eo Baal, qui suffodit aram ejus.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃6 ויקרא לו ביום ההוא ירבעל לאמר ירב בו הבעל כי נתץ את מזבחו פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 33

Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

- Tout Madian, Amalek et les fils de l'Orient, se rassemblèrent; ils passèrent le Jourdain, et campèrent dans la vallée de Jizréel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ πα̃σα Μαδιαμ καὶ Αμαληκ καὶ υἱοὶ ἀνατολω̃ν συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ καὶ παρενέβαλον ἐν κοιλάδι Εζερεελ (Ⅲ)

- Igitur omnis Madian, et Amalec, et orientales populi, congregati sunt simul : et transeuntes Jordanem, castrametati sunt in valle Jezraël. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃6 וכל מדין ועמלק ובני קדם נאספו יחדו ויעברו ויחנו בעמק יזרעאל ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 34

But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.

- Gédéon fut revêtu de l'esprit de l'Éternel; il sonna de la trompette, et Abiézer fut convoqué pour marcher à sa suite. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ πνευ̃μα κυρίου ἐνεδυνάμωσεν τὸν Γεδεων καὶ ἐσάλπισεν ἐν κερατίνη̨ καὶ ἐφοβήθη Αβιεζερ ὀπίσω αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Spiritus autem Domini induit Gedeon, qui clangens buccina convocavit domum Abiezer, ut sequeretur se. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 34 ׃6 ורוח יהוה לבשה את גדעון ויתקע בשופר ויזעק‪[Q]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ אביעזר אחריו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 35

And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

- Il envoya des messagers dans tout Manassé, qui fut aussi convoqué pour marcher à sa suite. Il envoya des messagers dans Aser, dans Zabulon et dans Nephthali, qui montèrent à leur rencontre. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀγγέλους ἀπέστειλεν εἰς πάντα Μανασση καὶ ἐν Ασηρ καὶ ἐν Ζαβουλων καὶ Νεφθαλι καὶ ἀνέβη εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Misitque nuntios in universum Manassen, qui et ipse secutus est eum : et alios nuntios in Aser et Zabulon et Nephthali, qui occurrerunt ei. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 35 ׃6 ומלאכים שלח בכל מנשה ויזעק‪[Q]‬‪[n]‬‪[p]‬ גם הוא אחריו ומלאכים שלח באשר ובזבלון ובנפתלי ויעלו לקראתם ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 36

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

- Gédéon dit à Dieu: Si tu veux délivrer Israël par ma main, comme tu l'as dit, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Γεδεων πρὸς τὸν θεόν εἰ σὺ σώ̨ζεις ἐν χειρί μου τὸν Ισραηλ καθὼς ἐλάλησας (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque Gedeon ad Deum : Si salvum facis per manum meam Israël, sicut locutus es, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 36 ׃6 ויאמר גדעון אל האלהים אם ישך מושיע בידי את ישראל כאשר דברת ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 37

Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

- voici, je vais mettre une toison de laine dans l'aire; si la toison seule se couvre de rosée et que tout le terrain reste sec, je connaîtrai que tu délivreras Israël par ma main, comme tu l'as dit. (Ⅱ)

- ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ τίθημι τὸν πόκον του̃ ἐρίου ἐν τη̨̃ ἅλωνι ἐὰν δρόσος γένηται ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον καὶ ἐπὶ πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν ξηρασία γνώσομαι ὅτι σώσεις ἐν χειρί μου τὸν Ισραηλ καθὼς ἐλάλησας (Ⅲ)

- ponam hoc vellus lanæ in area : si ros in solo vellere fuerit, et in omni terra siccitas, sciam quod per manum meam, sicut locutus es, liberabis Israël. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 37 ׃6 הנה אנכי מציג את גזת הצמר בגרן אם טל יהיה על הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ חרב וידעתי כי תושיע בידי את ישראל כאשר דברת ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 38

And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

- Et il arriva ainsi. Le jour suivant, il se leva de bon matin, pressa la toison, et en fit sortir la rosée, qui donna de l'eau plein une coupe. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο οὕτως καὶ ὤρθρισεν τη̨̃ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἐξεπίασεν τὸν πόκον καὶ ἔσταξεν δρόσος ἀπὸ του̃ πόκου πλήρης λεκάνη ὕδατος (Ⅲ)

- Factumque est ita. Et de nocte consurgens expresso vellere, concham rore implevit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 38 ׃6 ויהי כן וישכם ממחרת ויזר את הגזה וימץ טל מן הגזה מלוא הספל מים ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 39

And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

- Gédéon dit à Dieu: Que ta colère ne s'enflamme point contre moi, et je ne parlerai plus que cette fois: Je voudrais seulement faire encore une épreuve avec la toison: que la toison seule reste sèche, et que tout le terrain se couvre de rosée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Γεδεων πρὸς τὸν θεόν μὴ δὴ ὀργισθήτω ὁ θυμός σου ἐν ἐμοί καὶ λαλήσω ἔτι ἅπαξ πειράσω δὲ καί γε ἔτι ἅπαξ ἐν τω̨̃ πόκω̨ καὶ γενέσθω ἡ ξηρασία ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον καὶ ἐπὶ πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν γενηθήτω δρόσος (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque rursus ad Deum : Ne irascatur furor tuus contra me si adhuc semel tentavero, signum quærens in vellere. Oro ut solum vellus siccum sit, et omnis terra rore madens. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 39 ׃6 ויאמר גדעון אל האלהים אל יחר אפך בי ואדברה אך הפעם אנסה נא רק הפעם בגזה יהי נא חרב אל הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ יהיה טל ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 40

And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

- Et Dieu fit ainsi cette nuit-là. La toison seule resta sèche, et tout le terrain se couvrit de rosée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως ὁ θεὸς ἐν τη̨̃ νυκτὶ ἐκείνη̨ καὶ ἐγένετο ξηρασία ἐπὶ τὸν πόκον μόνον καὶ ἐπὶ πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν ἐγενήθη δρόσος (Ⅲ)

- Fecitque Deus nocte illa ut postulaverat : et fuit siccitas in solo vellere, et ros in omni terra. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 40 ׃6 ויעש אלהים כן בלילה ההוא ויהי חרב אל הגזה לבדה ועל כל הארץ היה טל פ‬ (Ⅴ)
