βροτὸς γὰρ γεννητὸς γυναικὸς ὀλιγόβιος καὶ πλήρης ὀργη̃ς
- L'homme né de la femme! Sa vie est courte, sans cesse agitée. (Ⅱ) - Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. (Ⅲ) - Homo natus de muliere, brevi vivens tempore,/ repletur multis miseriis./ (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃14 אדם ילוד אשה קצר ימים ושבע רגז (Ⅴ)

ἢ ὥσπερ ἄνθος ἀνθη̃σαν ἐξέπεσεν ἀπέδρα δὲ ὥσπερ σκιὰ καὶ οὐ μὴ στη̨̃
- Il naît, il est coupé comme une fleur; Il fuit et disparaît comme une ombre. (Ⅱ) - He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. (Ⅲ) - Qui quasi flos egreditur et conteritur,/ et fugit velut umbra, et numquam in eodem statu permanet./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃14 כציץ יצא וימל ויברח כצל ולא יעמוד (Ⅴ)

οὐχὶ καὶ τούτου λόγον ἐποιήσω καὶ του̃τον ἐποίησας εἰσελθει̃ν ἐν κρίματι ἐνώπιόν σου
- Et c'est sur lui que tu as l'oeil ouvert! Et tu me fais aller en justice avec toi! (Ⅱ) - And doth thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee? (Ⅲ) - Et dignum ducis super hujuscemodi aperire oculos tuos,/ et adducere eum tecum in judicium ?/ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃14 אף על זה פקחת עינך ואתי תביא במשפט עמך (Ⅴ)

τίς γὰρ καθαρὸς ἔσται ἀπὸ ῥύπου ἀλλ' οὐθείς
- Comment d'un être souillé sortira-t-il un homme pur? Il n'en peut sortir aucun. (Ⅱ) - Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one. (Ⅲ) - Quis potest facere mundum de immundo conceptum semine ?/ nonne tu qui solus es ?/ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃14 מי יתן טהור מטמא לא אחד (Ⅴ)

ἐὰν καὶ μία ἡμέρα ὁ βίος αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς ἀριθμητοὶ δὲ μη̃νες αὐτου̃ παρὰ σοί εἰς χρόνον ἔθου καὶ οὐ μὴ ὑπερβη̨̃
- Si ses jours sont fixés, si tu as compté ses mois, Si tu en as marqué le terme qu'il ne saurait franchir, (Ⅱ) - Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; (Ⅲ) - Breves dies hominis sunt :/ numerus mensium ejus apud te est :/ constituisti terminos ejus, qui præteriri non poterunt./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃14 אם חרוצים ימיו מספר חדשיו אתך *חקו **חקיו עשית ולא יעבור (Ⅴ)

ἀπόστα ἀπ' αὐτου̃ ἵνα ἡσυχάση̨ καὶ εὐδοκήση̨ τὸν βίον ὥσπερ ὁ μισθωτός
- Détourne de lui les regards, et donne-lui du relâche, Pour qu'il ait au moins la joie du mercenaire à la fin de sa journée. (Ⅱ) - Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day. (Ⅲ) - Recede paululum ab eo, ut quiescat,/ donec optata veniat, sicut mercenarii, dies ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃14 שעה מעליו ויחדל עד ירצה כשכיר יומו (Ⅴ)

ἔστιν γὰρ δένδρω̨ ἐλπίς ἐὰν γὰρ ἐκκοπη̨̃ ἔτι ἐπανθήσει καὶ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτου̃ οὐ μὴ ἐκλίπη̨
- Un arbre a de l'espérance: Quand on le coupe, il repousse, Il produit encore des rejetons; (Ⅱ) - For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. (Ⅲ) - Lignum habet spem :/ si præcisum fuerit, rursum virescit,/ et rami ejus pullulant./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃14 כי יש לעץ תקוה אם יכרת ועוד יחליף וינקתו לא תחדל (Ⅴ)

ἐὰν γὰρ γηράση̨ ἐν γη̨̃ ἡ ῥίζα αὐτου̃ ἐν δὲ πέτρα̨ τελευτήση̨ τὸ στέλεχος αὐτου̃
- Quand sa racine a vieilli dans la terre, Quand son tronc meurt dans la poussière, (Ⅱ) - Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; (Ⅲ) - Si senuerit in terra radix ejus,/ et in pulvere emortuus fuerit truncus illius,/ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃14 אם יזקין בארץ שרשו ובעפר ימות גזעו (Ⅴ)

ἀπὸ ὀσμη̃ς ὕδατος ἀνθήσει ποιήσει δὲ θερισμὸν ὥσπερ νεόφυτον
- Il reverdit à l'approche de l'eau, Il pousse des branches comme une jeune plante. (Ⅱ) - Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. (Ⅲ) - ad odorem aquæ germinabit,/ et faciet comam, quasi cum primum plantatum est./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃14 מריח מים יפרח ועשה קציר כמו נטע (Ⅴ)

ἀνὴρ δὲ τελευτήσας ὤ̨χετο πεσὼν δὲ βροτὸς οὐκέτι ἔστιν
- Mais l'homme meurt, et il perd sa force; L'homme expire, et où est-il? (Ⅱ) - But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? (Ⅲ) - Homo vero cum mortuus fuerit, et nudatus,/ atque consumptus, ubi, quæso, est ?/ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃14 וגבר ימות ויחלש ויגוע אדם ואיו (Ⅴ)

χρόνω̨ γὰρ σπανίζεται θάλασσα ποταμὸς δὲ ἐρημωθεὶς ἐξηράνθη
- Les eaux des lacs s'évanouissent, Les fleuves tarissent et se dessèchent; (Ⅱ) - As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up: (Ⅲ) - Quomodo si recedant aquæ de mari,/ et fluvius vacuefactus arescat :/ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃14 אזלו מים מני ים ונהר יחרב ויבש (Ⅴ)

ἄνθρωπος δὲ κοιμηθεὶς οὐ μὴ ἀναστη̨̃ ἕως ἂν ὁ οὐρανὸς οὐ μὴ συρραφη̨̃ καὶ οὐκ ἐξυπνισθήσονται ἐξ ὕπνου αὐτω̃ν
- Ainsi l'homme se couche et ne se relèvera plus, Il ne se réveillera pas tant que les cieux subsisteront, Il ne sortira pas de son sommeil. (Ⅱ) - So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. (Ⅲ) - sic homo, cum dormierit, non resurget :/ donec atteratur cælum, non evigilabit,/ nec consurget de somno suo./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃14 ואיש שכב ולא יקום עד בלתי שמים לא יקיצו ולא יערו משנתם (Ⅴ)

εἰ γὰρ ὄφελον ἐν ἅ̨δη̨ με ἐφύλαξας ἔκρυψας δέ με ἕως ἂν παύσηταί σου ἡ ὀργὴ καὶ τάξη̨ μοι χρόνον ἐν ὡ̨̃ μνείαν μου ποιήση̨
- Oh! si tu voulais me cacher dans le séjour des morts, M'y tenir à couvert jusqu'à ce que ta colère fût passée, Et me fixer un terme auquel tu te souviendras de moi! (Ⅱ) - O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Ⅲ) - Quis mihi hoc tribuat, ut in inferno protegas me,/ et abscondas me donec pertranseat furor tuus,/ et constituas mihi tempus in quo recorderis mei ?/ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃14 מי יתן בשאול תצפנני תסתירני עד שוב אפך תשית[c] לי חק ותזכרני (Ⅴ)

ἐὰν γὰρ ἀποθάνη̨ ἄνθρωπος ζήσεται συντελέσας ἡμέρας του̃ βίου αὐτου̃ ὑπομενω̃ ἕως ἂν πάλιν γένωμαι
- Si l'homme une fois mort pouvait revivre, J'aurais de l'espoir tout le temps de mes souffrances, Jusqu'à ce que mon état vînt à changer. (Ⅱ) - If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. (Ⅲ) - Putasne mortuus homo rursum vivat ?/ cunctis diebus quibus nunc milito, expecto/ donec veniat immutatio mea./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃14 אם ימות גבר היחיה כל ימי צבאי איחל עד בוא חליפתי (Ⅴ)

εἰ̃τα καλέσεις ἐγὼ δέ σοι ὑπακούσομαι τὰ δὲ ἔργα τω̃ν χειρω̃ν σου μὴ ἀποποιου̃
- Tu appellerais alors, et je te répondrais, Tu languirais après l'ouvrage de tes mains. (Ⅱ) - Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands. (Ⅲ) - Vocabis me, et ego respondebo tibi :/ operi manuum tuarum porriges dexteram./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃14 תקרא ואנכי אענך למעשה ידיך תכסף (Ⅴ)

ἠρίθμησας δέ μου τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθη̨ σε οὐδὲν τω̃ν ἁμαρτιω̃ν μου
- Mais aujourd'hui tu comptes mes pas, Tu as l'oeil sur mes péchés; (Ⅱ) - For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin? (Ⅲ) - Tu quidem gressus meos dinumerasti :/ sed parce peccatis meis./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃14 כי עתה צעדי תספור לא תשמור על חטאתי (Ⅴ)

ἐσφράγισας δέ μου τὰς ἀνομίας ἐν βαλλαντίω̨ ἐπεσημήνω δέ εἴ τι ἄκων παρέβην
- Mes transgressions sont scellées en un faisceau, Et tu imagines des iniquités à ma charge. (Ⅱ) - My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity. (Ⅲ) - Signasti quasi in sacculo delicta mea,/ sed curasti iniquitatem meam./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃14 חתם בצרור פשעי ותטפל על עוני (Ⅴ)

καὶ πλὴν ὄρος πι̃πτον διαπεσει̃ται καὶ πέτρα παλαιωθήσεται ἐκ του̃ τόπου αὐτη̃ς
- La montagne s'écroule et périt, Le rocher disparaît de sa place, (Ⅱ) - And surely the mountains falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place. (Ⅲ) - Mons cadens defluit,/ et saxum transfertur de loco suo :/ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃14 ואולם הר נופל יבול וצור יעתק ממקמו (Ⅴ)

λίθους ἐλέαναν ὕδατα καὶ κατέκλυσεν ὕδατα ὕπτια του̃ χώματος τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ὑπομονὴν ἀνθρώπου ἀπώλεσας
- La pierre est broyée par les eaux, Et la terre emportée par leur courant; Ainsi tu détruis l'espérance de l'homme. (Ⅱ) - The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man. (Ⅲ) - lapides excavant aquæ,/ et alluvione paulatim terra consumitur :/ et hominem ergo similiter perdes./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃14 אבנים שחקו מים תשטף ספיחיה עפר ארץ ותקות אנוש האבדת (Ⅴ)

ὠ̃σας αὐτὸν εἰς τέλος καὶ ὤ̨χετο ἐπέστησας αὐτω̨̃ τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ ἐξαπέστειλας
- Tu es sans cesse à l'assaillir, et il s'en va; Tu le défigures, puis tu le renvoies. (Ⅱ) - Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away. (Ⅲ) - Roborasti eum paululum, ut in perpetuum transiret :/ immutabis faciem ejus, et emittes eum./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃14 תתקפהו לנצח ויהלך משנה פניו ותשלחהו (Ⅴ)

πολλω̃ν δὲ γενομένων τω̃ν υἱω̃ν αὐτου̃ οὐκ οἰ̃δεν ἐὰν δὲ ὀλίγοι γένωνται οὐκ ἐπίσταται
- Que ses fils soient honorés, il n'en sait rien; Qu'ils soient dans l'abaissement, il l'ignore. (Ⅱ) - His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them. (Ⅲ) - Sive nobiles fuerint filii ejus,/ sive ignobiles, non intelliget./ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃14 יכבדו בניו ולא ידע ויצערו ולא יבין למו (Ⅴ)

ἀλλ' ἢ αἱ σάρκες αὐτου̃ ἤλγησαν ἡ δὲ ψυχὴ αὐτου̃ ἐπένθησεν
- C'est pour lui seul qu'il éprouve de la douleur en son corps, C'est pour lui seul qu'il ressent de la tristesse en son âme. (Ⅱ) - But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn. (Ⅲ) - Attamen caro ejus, dum vivet, dolebit,/ et anima illius super semetipso lugebit.] (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃14 אך בשרו עליו יכאב ונפשו עליו תאבל פ (Ⅴ)
