19. 1

When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

- Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, aura exterminé les nations dont l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne le pays, lorsque tu les auras chassées et que tu habiteras dans leurs villes et dans leurs maisons, (Ⅱ)

- ἐὰν δὲ ἀφανίση̨ κύριος ὁ θεός σου τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι τὴν γη̃ν αὐτω̃ν καὶ κατακληρονομήσητε αὐτοὺς καὶ κατοικήσητε ἐν ται̃ς πόλεσιν αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐν τοι̃ς οἴκοις αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Cum disperdiderit Dominus Deus tuus gentes, quarum tibi traditurus est terram, et possederis eam, habitaverisque in urbibus ejus et in ædibus : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃19 כי יכרית יהוה אלהיך את הגוים אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך את ארצם וירשתם וישבת בעריהם ובבתיהם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 2

Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

- tu sépareras trois villes au milieu du pays dont l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne la possession. (Ⅱ)

- τρει̃ς πόλεις διαστελει̃ς σεαυτω̨̃ ἐν μέσω̨ τη̃ς γη̃ς σου ἡ̃ς κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι (Ⅲ)

- tres civitates separabis tibi in medio terræ, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi in possessionem, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃19 שלוש ערים תבדיל לך בתוך ארצך אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך לרשתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 3

Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

- Tu établiras des routes, et tu diviseras en trois parties le territoire du pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, va te donner en héritage. Il en sera ainsi afin que tout meurtrier puisse s'enfuir dans ces villes. (Ⅱ)

- στόχασαί σοι τὴν ὁδὸν καὶ τριμεριει̃ς τὰ ὅρια τη̃ς γη̃ς σου ἣν καταμερίζει σοι κύριος ὁ θεός σου καὶ ἔσται καταφυγὴ ἐκει̃ παντὶ φονευτη̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- sternens diligenter viam : et in tres æqualiter partes totam terræ tuæ provinciam divides : ut habeat e vicino qui propter homicidium profugus est, quo possit evadere. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃19 תכין לך הדרך ושלשת את גבול ארצך אשר ינחילך יהוה אלהיך והיה לנוס שמה כל רצח ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 4

And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbor ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

- Cette loi s'appliquera au meurtrier qui s'enfuira là pour sauver sa vie, lorsqu'il aura involontairement tué son prochain, sans avoir été auparavant son ennemi. (Ⅱ)

- του̃το δὲ ἔσται τὸ πρόσταγμα του̃ φονευτου̃ ὃς ἂν φύγη̨ ἐκει̃ καὶ ζήσεται ὃς ἂν πατάξη̨ τὸν πλησίον αὐτου̃ ἀκουσίως καὶ οὑ̃τος οὐ μισω̃ν αὐτὸν πρὸ τη̃ς ἐχθὲς καὶ πρὸ τη̃ς τρίτης (Ⅲ)

- Hæc erit lex homicidæ fugientis, cujus vita servanda est : qui percusserit proximum suum nesciens, et qui heri et nudiustertius nullum contra eum odium habuisse comprobatur : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃19 וזה דבר הרצח אשר ינוס שמה וחי אשר יכה את רעהו בבלי דעת והוא לא שנא לו מתמל שלשם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 5

As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbor, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

- Un homme, par exemple, va couper du bois dans la forêt avec un autre homme; la hache en main, il s'élance pour abattre un arbre; le fer échappe du manche, atteint le compagnon de cet homme, et lui donne la mort. Alors il s'enfuira dans l'une de ces villes pour sauver sa vie, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὃς ἂν εἰσέλθη̨ μετὰ του̃ πλησίον εἰς τὸν δρυμὸν συναγαγει̃ν ξύλα καὶ ἐκκρουσθη̨̃ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτου̃ τη̨̃ ἀξίνη̨ κόπτοντος τὸ ξύλον καὶ ἐκπεσὸν τὸ σιδήριον ἀπὸ του̃ ξύλου τύχη̨ του̃ πλησίον καὶ ἀποθάνη̨ οὑ̃τος καταφεύξεται εἰς μίαν τω̃ν πόλεων τούτων καὶ ζήσεται (Ⅲ)

- sed abiisse cum eo simpliciter in silvam ad ligna cædenda, et in succisione lignorum securis fugerit manu, ferrumque lapsum de manubrio amicum ejus percusserit, et occiderit : hic ad unam supradictarum urbium confugiet, et vivet : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃19 ואשר יבא את רעהו ביער לחטב עצים ונדחה ידו בגרזן לכרת העץ ונשל הברזל מן העץ ומצא את רעהו ומת הוא ינוס אל אחת הערים האלה וחי ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 6

Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

- de peur que le vengeur du sang, échauffé par la colère et poursuivant le meurtrier, ne finisse par l'atteindre s'il y avait à faire beaucoup de chemin, et ne frappe mortellement celui qui ne mérite pas la mort, puisqu'il n'était point auparavant l'ennemi de son prochain. (Ⅱ)

- ἵνα μὴ διώξας ὁ ἀγχιστεύων του̃ αἵματος ὀπίσω του̃ φονεύσαντος ὅτι παρατεθέρμανται τη̨̃ καρδία̨ καὶ καταλάβη̨ αὐτόν ἐὰν μακροτέρα ἠ̨̃ ἡ ὁδός καὶ πατάξη̨ αὐτου̃ τὴν ψυχήν καὶ ἀποθάνη̨ καὶ τούτω̨ οὐκ ἔστιν κρίσις θανάτου ὅτι οὐ μισω̃ν ἠ̃ν αὐτὸν πρὸ τη̃ς ἐχθὲς καὶ πρὸ τη̃ς τρίτης (Ⅲ)

- ne forsitan proximus ejus, cujus effusus est sanguis, dolore stimulatus, persequatur, et apprehendat eum si longior via fuerit, et percutiat animam ejus, qui non est reus mortis : quia nullum contra eum, qui occisus est, odium prius habuisse monstratur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃19 פן ירדף גאל הדם אחרי הרצח כי יחם לבבו והשיגו כי ירבה הדרך והכהו נפש ולו אין משפט מות כי לא שנא הוא לו מתמול שלשום ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 7

Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

- C'est pourquoi je te donne cet ordre: Tu sépareras trois villes. (Ⅱ)

- διὰ του̃το ἐγώ σοι ἐντέλλομαι τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το λέγων τρει̃ς πόλεις διαστελει̃ς σεαυτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Idcirco præcipio tibi, ut tres civitates æqualis inter se spatii dividas. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃19 על כן אנכי מצוך לאמר שלש ערים תבדיל לך ס‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 8

And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

- Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, aura élargi tes frontières, comme il l'a juré à tes pères, et qu'il t'aura donné tout le pays qu'il a promis à tes pères de te donner, - (Ⅱ)

- ἐὰν δὲ ἐμπλατύνη̨ κύριος ὁ θεός σου τὰ ὅριά σου ὃν τρόπον ὤμοσεν τοι̃ς πατράσιν σου καὶ δω̨̃ σοι κύριος πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν ἣν εἰ̃πεν δου̃ναι τοι̃ς πατράσιν σου (Ⅲ)

- Cum autem dilataverit Dominus Deus tuus terminos tuos, sicut juravit patribus tuis, et dederit tibi cunctam terram, quam eis pollicitus est (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃19 ואם ירחיב יהוה אלהיך את גבלך כאשר נשבע לאבתיך ונתן לך את כל הארץ אשר דבר לתת לאבתיך ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 9

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

- pourvu que tu observes et mettes en pratique tous ces commandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, en sorte que tu aimes l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et que tu marches toujours dans ses voies, -tu ajouteras encore trois villes à ces trois-là, (Ⅱ)

- ἐὰν ἀκούση̨ς ποιει̃ν πάσας τὰς ἐντολὰς ταύτας ἃς ἐγὼ ἐντέλλομαί σοι σήμερον ἀγαπα̃ν κύριον τὸν θεόν σου πορεύεσθαι ἐν πάσαις ται̃ς ὁδοι̃ς αὐτου̃ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας καὶ προσθήσεις σεαυτω̨̃ ἔτι τρει̃ς πόλεις πρὸς τὰς τρει̃ς ταύτας (Ⅲ)

- (si tamen custodieris mandata ejus, et feceris, quæ hodie præcipio tibi, ut diligas Dominum Deum tuum, et ambules in viis ejus omni tempore), addes tibi tres alias civitates, et supradictarum trium urbium numerum duplicabis : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃19 כי תשמר את כל המצוה הזאת לעשתה אשר אנכי מצוך היום לאהבה את יהוה אלהיך וללכת בדרכיו כל הימים ויספת‪[C]‬‪[c]‬ לך עוד שלש ערים על השלש האלה ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 10

That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

- afin que le sang innocent ne soit pas répandu au milieu du pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne pour héritage, et que tu ne sois pas coupable de meurtre. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὐκ ἐκχυθήσεται αἱ̃μα ἀναίτιον ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ σου ἡ̨̃ κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι ἐν κλήρω̨ καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ἐν σοὶ αἵματι ἔνοχος (Ⅲ)

- ut non effundatur sanguis innoxius in medio terræ, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi possidendam, ne sis sanguinis reus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃19 ולא ישפך דם נקי בקרב ארצך אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך נחלה והיה עליך דמים ס‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 11

But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

- Mais si un homme s'enfuit dans une de ces villes, après avoir dressé des embûches à son prochain par inimitié contre lui, après l'avoir attaqué et frappé de manière à causer sa mort, (Ⅱ)

- ἐὰν δὲ γένηται ἄνθρωπος μισω̃ν τὸν πλησίον καὶ ἐνεδρεύση̨ αὐτὸν καὶ ἐπαναστη̨̃ ἐπ' αὐτὸν καὶ πατάξη̨ αὐτου̃ ψυχήν καὶ ἀπεθάνη̨ καὶ φύγη̨ εἰς μίαν τω̃ν πόλεων τούτων (Ⅲ)

- Si quis autem, odio habens proximum suum, insidiatus fuerit vitæ ejus, surgensque percusserit illum, et mortuus fuerit, fugeritque ad unam de supradictis urbibus, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃19 וכי יהיה איש שנא לרעהו וארב לו וקם עליו והכהו נפש ומת ונס אל אחת הערים האל ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 12

Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

- les anciens de sa ville l'enverront saisir et le livreront entre les mains du vengeur du sang, afin qu'il meure. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀποστελου̃σιν ἡ γερουσία τη̃ς πόλεως αὐτου̃ καὶ λήμψονται αὐτὸν ἐκει̃θεν καὶ παραδώσουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς χει̃ρας τω̨̃ ἀγχιστεύοντι του̃ αἵματος καὶ ἀποθανει̃ται (Ⅲ)

- mittent seniores civitatis illius, et arripient eum de loco effugii, tradentque in manu proximi, cujus sanguis effusus est, et morietur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃19 ושלחו זקני עירו ולקחו אתו משם ונתנו אתו ביד גאל הדם ומת ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 13

Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

- Tu ne jetteras pas sur lui un regard de pitié, tu feras disparaître d'Israël le sang innocent, et tu seras heureux. (Ⅱ)

- οὐ φείσεται ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ καὶ καθαριει̃ς τὸ αἱ̃μα τὸ ἀναίτιον ἐξ Ισραηλ καὶ εὐ̃ σοι ἔσται (Ⅲ)

- Non miseraberis ejus, et auferes innoxium sanguinem de Israël, ut bene sit tibi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃19 לא תחוס עינך עליו ובערת דם הנקי מישראל וטוב לך ס‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 14

Thou shalt not remove thy neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

- Tu ne reculeras point les bornes de ton prochain, posées par tes ancêtres, dans l'héritage que tu auras au pays dont l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne la possession. (Ⅱ)

- οὐ μετακινήσεις ὅρια του̃ πλησίον σου ἃ ἔστησαν οἱ πατέρες σου ἐν τη̨̃ κληρονομία̨ σου ἡ̨̃ κατεκληρονομήθης ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ ἡ̨̃ κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοι ἐν κλήρω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Non assumes, et transferes terminos proximi tui, quos fixerunt priores in possessione tua, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi in terra quam acceperis possidendam.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃19 לא תסיג גבול רעך אשר גבלו ראשנים בנחלתך אשר תנחל בארץ אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך לרשתה ס‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 15

One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

- Un seul témoin ne suffira pas contre un homme pour constater un crime ou un péché, quel qu'il soit; un fait ne pourra s'établir que sur la déposition de deux ou de trois témoins. (Ⅱ)

- οὐκ ἐμμενει̃ μάρτυς εἱ̃ς μαρτυρη̃σαι κατὰ ἀνθρώπου κατὰ πα̃σαν ἀδικίαν καὶ κατὰ πα̃ν ἁμάρτημα καὶ κατὰ πα̃σαν ἁμαρτίαν ἣν ἂν ἁμάρτη̨ ἐπὶ στόματος δύο μαρτύρων καὶ ἐπὶ στόματος τριω̃ν μαρτύρων σταθήσεται πα̃ν ῥη̃μα (Ⅲ)

- Non stabit testis unus contra aliquem, quidquid illud peccati, et facinoris fuerit : sed in ore duorum aut trium testium stabit omne verbum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃19 לא יקום עד אחד באיש לכל עון ולכל חטאת בכל חטא אשר יחטא על פי שני עדים או על פי שלשה עדים יקום דבר ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 16

If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

- Lorsqu'un faux témoin s'élèvera contre quelqu'un pour l'accuser d'un crime, (Ⅱ)

- ἐὰν δὲ καταστη̨̃ μάρτυς ἄδικος κατὰ ἀνθρώπου καταλέγων αὐτου̃ ἀσέβειαν (Ⅲ)

- Si steterit testis mendax contra hominem, accusans eum prævaricationis, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃19 כי יקום עד חמס באיש לענות בו סרה ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 17

Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;

- les deux hommes en contestation comparaîtront devant l'Éternel, devant les sacrificateurs et les juges alors en fonctions. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ στήσονται οἱ δύο ἄνθρωποι οἱ̃ς ἐστιν αὐτοι̃ς ἡ ἀντιλογία ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ ἔναντι τω̃ν ἱερέων καὶ ἔναντι τω̃ν κριτω̃ν οἳ ἐὰν ὠ̃σιν ἐν ται̃ς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις (Ⅲ)

- stabunt ambo, quorum causa est, ante Dominum in conspectu sacerdotum et judicum qui fuerint in diebus illis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃19 ועמדו שני האנשים אשר להם הריב לפני יהוה לפני הכהנים והשפטים אשר יהיו בימים ההם ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 18

And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

- Les juges feront avec soin des recherches. Le témoin est-il un faux témoin, a-t-il fait contre son frère une fausse déposition, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξετάσωσιν οἱ κριταὶ ἀκριβω̃ς καὶ ἰδοὺ μάρτυς ἄδικος ἐμαρτύρησεν ἄδικα ἀντέστη κατὰ του̃ ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque diligentissime perscrutantes, invenerint falsum testem dixisse contra fratrem suum mendacium, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃19 ודרשו השפטים היטב והנה עד שקר העד שקר ענה באחיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 19

Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

- alors vous le traiterez comme il avait dessein de traiter son frère. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ποιήσετε αὐτω̨̃ ὃν τρόπον ἐπονηρεύσατο ποιη̃σαι κατὰ του̃ ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐξαρει̃ς τὸν πονηρὸν ἐξ ὑμω̃ν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- reddent ei sicut fratri suo facere cogitavit, et auferes malum de medio tui : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃19 ועשיתם לו כאשר זמם לעשות לאחיו ובערת הרע מקרבך ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 20

And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

- Les autres entendront et craindront, et l'on ne commettra plus un acte aussi criminel au milieu de toi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οἱ ἐπίλοιποι ἀκούσαντες φοβηθήσονται καὶ οὐ προσθήσουσιν ἔτι ποιη̃σαι κατὰ τὸ ῥη̃μα τὸ πονηρὸν του̃το ἐν ὑμι̃ν (Ⅲ)

- ut audientes ceteri timorem habeant, et nequaquam talia audeant facere. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃19 והנשארים ישמעו ויראו ולא יספו לעשות עוד כדבר הרע הזה בקרבך ‬ (Ⅴ)

19. 21

And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

- Tu ne jetteras aucun regard de pitié: oeil pour oeil, dent pour dent, main pour main, pied pour pied. (Ⅱ)

- οὐ φείσεται ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ ψυχὴν ἀντὶ ψυχη̃ς ὀφθαλμὸν ἀντὶ ὀφθαλμου̃ ὀδόντα ἀντὶ ὀδόντος χει̃ρα ἀντὶ χειρός πόδα ἀντὶ ποδός (Ⅲ)

- Non misereberis ejus, sed animam pro anima, oculum pro oculo, dentem pro dente, manum pro manu, pedem pro pede exiges. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃19 ולא תחוס עינך נפש בנפש עין בעין שן בשן יד ביד רגל ברגל ס‬ (Ⅴ)
