Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
- Nachasch, l'Ammonite, vint assiéger Jabès en Galaad. Tous les habitants de Jabès dirent à Nachasch: Traite alliance avec nous, et nous te servirons. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς μετὰ μη̃να καὶ ἀνέβη Ναας ὁ Αμμανίτης καὶ παρεμβάλλει ἐπὶ Ιαβις Γαλααδ καὶ εἰ̃πον πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες Ιαβις πρὸς Ναας τὸν Αμμανίτην διάθου ἡμι̃ν διαθήκην καὶ δουλεύσομέν σοι (Ⅲ) - Et factum est quasi post mensem, ascendit Naas Ammonites, et pugnare cœpit adversum Jabes Galaad. Dixeruntque omnes viri Jabes ad Naas : Habeto nos fœderatos, et serviemus tibi. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃11 ויעל נחש העמוני ויחן על יבש גלעד ויאמרו כל אנשי יביש אל נחש כרת לנו ברית ונעבדך (Ⅴ)

And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.
- Mais Nachasch, l'Ammonite, leur répondit: Je traiterai avec vous à la condition que je vous crève à tous l'oeil droit, et que j'imprime ainsi un opprobre sur tout Israël. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ναας ὁ Αμμανίτης ἐν ταύτη̨ διαθήσομαι ὑμι̃ν διαθήκην ἐν τω̨̃ ἐξορύξαι ὑμω̃ν πάντα ὀφθαλμὸν δεξιόν καὶ θήσομαι ὄνειδος ἐπὶ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Et respondit ad eos Naas Ammonites : In hoc feriam vobiscum fœdus, ut eruam omnium vestrum oculos dextros, ponamque vos opprobrium in universo Israël. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃11 ויאמר אליהם נחש העמוני בזאת אכרת לכם בנקור לכם כל עין ימין ושמתיה חרפה על כל ישראל (Ⅴ)

And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
- Les anciens de Jabès lui dirent: Accorde-nous une trêve de sept jours, afin que nous envoyions des messagers dans tout le territoire d'Israël; et s'il n'y a personne qui nous secoure, nous nous rendrons à toi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτω̨̃ οἱ ἄνδρες Ιαβις ἄνες ἡμι̃ν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ ἀποστελου̃μεν ἀγγέλους εἰς πα̃ν ὅριον Ισραηλ ἐὰν μὴ ἠ̨̃ ὁ σώ̨ζων ἡμα̃ς ἐξελευσόμεθα πρὸς ὑμα̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et dixerunt ad eum seniores Jabes : Concede nobis septem dies, ut mittamus nuntios ad universos terminos Israël, et si non fuerit qui defendat nos, egrediemur ad te. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃11 ויאמרו אליו זקני יביש הרף לנו שבעת ימים ונשלחה מלאכים בכל גבול ישראל ואם אין מושיע אתנו ויצאנו אליך (Ⅴ)

Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.
- Les messagers arrivèrent à Guibea de Saül, et dirent ces choses aux oreilles du peuple. Et tout le peuple éleva la voix, et pleura. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔρχονται οἱ ἄγγελοι εἰς Γαβαα πρὸς Σαουλ καὶ λαλου̃σιν τοὺς λόγους εἰς τὰ ὠ̃τα του̃ λαου̃ καὶ ἠ̃ραν πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς τὴν φωνὴν αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν (Ⅲ) - Venerunt ergo nuntii in Gabaa Saulis : et locuti sunt verba hæc, audiente populo : et levavit omnis populus vocem suam, et flevit.\ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃11 ויבאו המלאכים גבעת שאול וידברו הדברים באזני העם וישאו כל העם את קולם ויבכו (Ⅴ)

And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.
- Et voici, Saül revenait des champs, derrière ses boeufs, et il dit: Qu'a donc le peuple pour pleurer? On lui raconta ce qu'avaient dit ceux de Jabès. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἰδοὺ Σαουλ ἤρχετο μετὰ τὸ πρωὶ ἐξ ἀγρου̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ τί ὅτι κλαίει ὁ λαός καὶ διηγου̃νται αὐτω̨̃ τὰ ῥήματα τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Ιαβις (Ⅲ) - Et ecce Saul veniebat, sequens boves de agro, et ait : Quid habet populus quod plorat ? Et narraverunt ei verba virorum Jabes. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃11 והנה שאול בא אחרי הבקר מן השדה ויאמר שאול מה לעם כי יבכו ויספרו לו את דברי אנשי יביש (Ⅴ)

And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.
- Dès que Saül eut entendu ces choses, il fut saisi par l'esprit de Dieu, et sa colère s'enflamma fortement. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐφήλατο πνευ̃μα κυρίου ἐπὶ Σαουλ ὡς ἤκουσεν τὰ ῥήματα ταυ̃τα καὶ ἐθυμώθη ἐπ' αὐτοὺς ὀργὴ αὐτου̃ σφόδρα (Ⅲ) - Et insilivit spiritus Domini in Saul cum audisset verba hæc, et iratus est furor ejus nimis. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃11 ותצלח רוח אלהים על שאול *בשמעו **כשמעו את הדברים האלה ויחר אפו מאד (Ⅴ)

And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
- Il prit une paire de boeufs, et les coupa en morceaux, qu'il envoya par les messagers dans tout le territoire d'Israël, en disant: Quiconque ne marchera pas à la suite de Saül et de Samuel, aura ses boeufs traités de la même manière. La terreur de l'Éternel s'empara du peuple, qui se mit en marche comme un seul homme. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔλαβεν δύο βόας καὶ ἐμέλισεν αὐτὰς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς πα̃ν ὅριον Ισραηλ ἐν χειρὶ ἀγγέλων λέγων ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκπορευόμενος ὀπίσω Σαουλ καὶ ὀπίσω Σαμουηλ κατὰ τάδε ποιήσουσιν τοι̃ς βουσὶν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπη̃λθεν ἔκστασις κυρίου ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἐβόησαν ὡς ἀνὴρ εἱ̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et assumens utrumque bovem, concidit in frustra, misitque in omnes terminos Israël per manum nuntiorum, dicens : Quicumque non exierit, et secutus fuerit Saul et Samuel, sic fiet bobus ejus. Invasit ergo timor Domini populum, et egressi sunt quasi vir unus. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃11 ויקח צמד בקר וינתחהו וישלח בכל גבול ישראל ביד המלאכים לאמר אשר איננו יצא אחרי שאול ואחר שמואל כה יעשה לבקרו ויפל פחד יהוה על העם ויצאו כאיש אחד (Ⅴ)

And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
- Saül en fit la revue à Bézek; les enfants d'Israël étaient trois cent mille, et les hommes de Juda trente mille. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπισκέπτεται αὐτοὺς Αβιεζεκ ἐν Βαμα πα̃ν ἄνδρα Ισραηλ ἑξακοσίας χιλιάδας καὶ ἄνδρας Ιουδα ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδας (Ⅲ) - Et recensuit eos in Bezech : fueruntque filiorum Israël trecenta millia, virorum autem Juda triginta millia. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃11 ויפקדם בבזק ויהיו בני ישראל שלש מאות אלף ואיש יהודה שלשים אלף (Ⅴ)

And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and showed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
- Ils dirent aux messagers qui étaient venus: Vous parlerez ainsi aux habitants de Jabès en Galaad: Demain vous aurez du secours, quand le soleil sera dans sa chaleur. Les messagers portèrent cette nouvelle à ceux de Jabès, qui furent remplis de joie; (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν τοι̃ς ἀγγέλοις τοι̃ς ἐρχομένοις τάδε ἐρει̃τε τοι̃ς ἀνδράσιν Ιαβις αὔριον ὑμι̃ν ἡ σωτηρία διαθερμάναντος του̃ ἡλίου καὶ ἠ̃λθον οἱ ἄγγελοι εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἀπαγγέλλουσιν τοι̃ς ἀνδράσιν Ιαβις καὶ εὐφράνθησαν (Ⅲ) - Et dixerunt nuntiis qui venerant : Sic dicetis viris qui sunt in Jabes Galaad : Cras erit vobis salus, cum incaluerit sol. Venerunt ergo nuntii, et annuntiaverunt viris Jabes : qui lætati sunt. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃11 ויאמרו למלאכים הבאים כה תאמרון לאיש יביש גלעד מחר תהיה לכם תשועה *בחם **כחם השמש ויבאו המלאכים ויגידו לאנשי יביש וישמחו (Ⅴ)

Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.
- et qui dirent aux Ammonites: Demain nous nous rendrons à vous, et vous nous traiterez comme bon vous semblera. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃παν οἱ ἄνδρες Ιαβις πρὸς Ναας τὸν Αμμανίτην αὔριον ἐξελευσόμεθα πρὸς ὑμα̃ς καὶ ποιήσετε ἡμι̃ν τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐνώπιον ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et dixerunt : Mane exibimus ad vos : et facietis nobis omne quod placuerit vobis.\ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃11 ויאמרו אנשי יביש מחר נצא אליכם ועשיתם לנו ככל הטוב בעיניכם ס (Ⅴ)

And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
- Le lendemain, Saül divisa le peuple en trois corps. Ils pénétrèrent dans le camp des Ammonites à la veille du matin, et ils les battirent jusqu'à la chaleur du jour. Ceux qui échappèrent furent dispersés, et il n'en resta pas deux ensemble. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγενήθη μετὰ τὴν αὔριον καὶ ἔθετο Σαουλ τὸν λαὸν εἰς τρει̃ς ἀρχάς καὶ εἰσπορεύονται μέσον τη̃ς παρεμβολη̃ς ἐν φυλακη̨̃ τη̨̃ πρωινη̨̃ καὶ ἔτυπτον τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων ἕως διεθερμάνθη ἡ ἡμέρα καὶ ἐγενήθησαν οἱ ὑπολελειμμένοι διεσπάρησαν καὶ οὐχ ὑπελείφθησαν ἐν αὐτοι̃ς δύο κατὰ τὸ αὐτό (Ⅲ) - Et factum est, cum dies crastinus venisset, constituit Saul populum in tres partes : et ingressus est media castra in vigilia matutina, et percussit Ammon usque dum incalesceret dies : reliqui autem dispersi sunt, ita ut non relinquerentur in eis duo pariter. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃11 ויהי ממחרת וישם שאול את העם שלשה ראשים ויבאו בתוך המחנה באשמרת הבקר ויכו את עמון עד חם היום ויהי הנשארים ויפצו ולא נשארו בם שנים יחד (Ⅴ)

And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.
- Le peuple dit à Samuel: Qui est-ce qui disait: Saül régnera-t-il sur nous? Livrez ces gens, et nous les ferons mourir. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Σαμουηλ τίς ὁ εἴπας ὅτι Σαουλ οὐ βασιλεύσει ἡμω̃ν παράδος τοὺς ἄνδρας καὶ θανατώσομεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Et ait populus ad Samuelem : Quis est iste qui dixit : Saul num regnabit super nos ? Date viros, et interficiemus eos. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃11 ויאמר העם אל שמואל מי האמר שאול ימלך עלינו תנו האנשים ונמיתם (Ⅴ)

And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.
- Mais Saül dit: Personne ne sera mis à mort en ce jour, car aujourd'hui l'Éternel a opéré une délivrance en Israël. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ οὐκ ἀποθανει̃ται οὐδεὶς ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ ὅτι σήμερον κύριος ἐποίησεν σωτηρίαν ἐν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Et ait Saul : Non occidetur quisquam in die hac, quia hodie fecit Dominus salutem in Israël. (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃11 ויאמר שאול לא יומת איש ביום הזה כי היום עשה יהוה תשועה בישראל ס (Ⅴ)

Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
- Et Samuel dit au peuple: Venez, et allons à Guilgal, pour y confirmer la royauté. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγων πορευθω̃μεν εἰς Γαλγαλα καὶ ἐγκαινίσωμεν ἐκει̃ τὴν βασιλείαν (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem Samuel ad populum : Venite, et eamus in Galgala, et innovemus ibi regnum. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃11 ויאמר שמואל אל העם לכו ונלכה הגלגל ונחדש שם המלוכה (Ⅴ)

And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
- Tout le peuple se rendit à Guilgal, et ils établirent Saül pour roi, devant l'Éternel, à Guilgal. Là, ils offrirent des sacrifices d'actions de grâces devant l'Éternel; et là, Saül et tous les hommes d'Israël se livrèrent à de grandes réjouissances. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπορεύθη πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς εἰς Γαλγαλα καὶ ἔχρισεν Σαμουηλ ἐκει̃ τὸν Σαουλ εἰς βασιλέα ἐνώπιον κυρίου ἐν Γαλγαλοις καὶ ἔθυσεν ἐκει̃ θυσίας καὶ εἰρηνικὰς ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ εὐφράνθη Σαμουηλ καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ ὥστε λίαν (Ⅲ) - Et perrexit omnis populus in Galgala, et fecerunt ibi regem Saul coram Domino in Galgala, et immolaverunt ibi victimas pacificas coram Domino. Et lætatus est ibi Saul, et cuncti viri Israël nimis. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃11 וילכו כל העם הגלגל וימלכו שם את שאול לפני יהוה בגלגל ויזבחו שם זבחים שלמים לפני יהוה וישמח שם שאול וכל אנשי ישראל עד מאד פ (Ⅴ)
