And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
- David avait achevé de parler à Saül. Et dès lors l'âme de Jonathan fut attachée à l'âme de David, et Jonathan l'aima comme son âme. (Ⅱ) - Et factum est cum complesset loqui ad Saul, anima Jonathæ conglutinata est animæ David, et dilexit eum Jonathas quasi animam suam. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃18 ויהי ככלתו לדבר אל שאול ונפש יהונתן נקשרה בנפש דוד *ויאהבו **ויאהבהו יהונתן כנפשו (Ⅴ)

And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
- Ce même jour Saül retint David, et ne le laissa pas retourner dans la maison de son père. (Ⅱ) - Tulitque eum Saul in die illa, et non concessit ei ut reverteretur in domum patris sui. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃18 ויקחהו שאול ביום ההוא ולא נתנו לשוב בית אביו (Ⅴ)

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
- Il ôta le manteau qu'il portait, pour le donner à David; et il lui donna ses vêtements, même son épée, son arc et sa ceinture. (Ⅱ) - Nam expoliavit se Jonathas tunica qua erat indutus, et dedit eam David, et reliqua vestimenta sua, usque ad gladium et arcum suum, et usque ad balteum. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃18 ויתפשט יהונתן את המעיל אשר עליו ויתנהו לדוד ומדיו ועד חרבו ועד קשתו ועד חגרו (Ⅴ)

And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
- David allait et réussissait partout où l'envoyait Saül; il fut mis par Saül à la tête des gens de guerre, et il plaisait à tout le peuple, même aux serviteurs de Saül. (Ⅱ) - Egrediebatur quoque David ad omnia quæcumque misisset eum Saul, et prudenter se agebat : posuitque eum Saul super viros belli, et acceptus erat in oculis universi populi, maximeque in conspectu famulorum Saul.\ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃18 ויצא דוד בכל אשר ישלחנו שאול ישכיל וישמהו שאול על אנשי המלחמה וייטב בעיני כל העם וגם בעיני עבדי שאול פ (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.
- Comme ils revenaient, lors du retour de David après qu'il eut tué le Philistin, les femmes sortirent de toutes les villes d'Israël au-devant du roi Saül, en chantant et en dansant, au son des tambourins et des triangles, et en poussant des cris de joie. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξη̃λθον αἱ χορεύουσαι εἰς συνάντησιν Δαυιδ ἐκ πασω̃ν πόλεων Ισραηλ ἐν τυμπάνοις καὶ ἐν χαρμοσύνη̨ καὶ ἐν κυμβάλοις (Ⅲ) - Porro cum reverteretur percusso Philisthæo David, egressæ sunt mulieres de universis urbibus Israël, cantantes, chorosque ducentes in occursum Saul regis, in tympanis lætitiæ, et in sistris. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃18 ויהי בבואם בשוב דוד מהכות את הפלשתי ותצאנה הנשים מכל ערי ישראל *לשור **לשיר והמחלות לקראת שאול המלך בתפים בשמחה ובשלשים (Ⅴ)

And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
- Les femmes qui chantaient se répondaient les unes aux autres, et disaient: Saül a frappé ses mille, -Et David ses dix mille. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξη̃ρχον αἱ γυναι̃κες καὶ ἔλεγον ἐπάταξεν Σαουλ ἐν χιλιάσιν αὐτου̃ καὶ Δαυιδ ἐν μυριάσιν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et præcinebant mulieres, ludentes, atque dicentes : [Percussit Saul mille,/ et David decem millia.] (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃18 ותענינה הנשים המשחקות ותאמרן הכה שאול *באלפו **באלפיו ודוד ברבבתיו (Ⅴ)

And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
- Saül fut très irrité, et cela lui déplut. Il dit: On en donne dix mille à David, et c'est à moi que l'on donne les mille! Il ne lui manque plus que la royauté. (Ⅱ) - καὶ πονηρὸν ἐφάνη τὸ ῥη̃μα ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς Σαουλ περὶ του̃ λόγου τούτου καὶ εἰ̃πεν τω̨̃ Δαυιδ ἔδωκαν τὰς μυριάδας καὶ ἐμοὶ ἔδωκαν τὰς χιλιάδας (Ⅲ) - Iratus est autem Saul nimis, et displicuit in oculis ejus sermo iste : dixitque : Dederunt David decem millia, et mihi mille dederunt : quid ei superest, nisi solum regnum ? (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃18 ויחר לשאול מאד וירע בעיניו הדבר הזה ויאמר נתנו לדוד רבבות ולי נתנו האלפים ועוד לו אך המלוכה (Ⅴ)

And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
- Et Saül regarda David d'un mauvais oeil, à partir de ce jour et dans la suite. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̃ν Σαουλ ὑποβλεπόμενος τὸν Δαυιδ ἀπὸ τη̃ς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης καὶ ἐπέκεινα (Ⅲ) - Non rectis ergo oculis Saul aspiciebat David a die illa et deinceps. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃18 ויהי שאול *עון **עוין את דוד מהיום ההוא והלאה ס (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.
- Le lendemain, le mauvais esprit de Dieu saisit Saül, qui eut des transports au milieu de la maison. David jouait, comme les autres jours, et Saül avait sa lance à la main. (Ⅱ) - Post diem autem alteram, invasit spiritus Dei malus Saul, et prophetabat in medio domus suæ : David autem psallebat manu sua, sicut per singulos dies. Tenebatque Saul lanceam, (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃18 ויהי ממחרת ותצלח רוח אלהים רעה אל שאול ויתנבא בתוך הבית ודוד מנגן בידו כיום ביום והחנית ביד שאול (Ⅴ)

And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
- Saül leva sa lance, disant en lui-même: Je frapperai David contre la paroi. Mais David se détourna de lui deux fois. And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
- Saül craignait la présence de David, parce que l'Éternel était avec David et s'était retiré de lui. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐφοβήθη Σαουλ ἀπὸ προσώπου Δαυιδ (Ⅲ) - Et timuit Saul David, eo quod Dominus esset cum eo, et a se recessisset. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃18 וירא שאול מלפני דוד כי היה יהוה עמו ומעם שאול סר (Ⅴ)

Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
- Il l'éloigna de sa personne, et il l'établit chef de mille hommes. David sortait et rentrait à la tête du peuple; (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπέστησεν αὐτὸν ἀπ' αὐτου̃ καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἑαυτω̨̃ χιλίαρχον καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο καὶ εἰσεπορεύετο ἔμπροσθεν του̃ λαου̃ (Ⅲ) - Amovit ergo eum Saul a se, et fecit eum tribunum super mille viros : et egrediebatur, et intrabat in conspectu populi. (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃18 ויסרהו שאול מעמו וישמהו לו שר אלף ויצא ויבא לפני העם פ (Ⅴ)

And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
- il réussissait dans toutes ses entreprises, et l'Éternel était avec lui. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̃ν Δαυιδ ἐν πάσαις ται̃ς ὁδοι̃ς αὐτου̃ συνίων καὶ κύριος μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - In omnibus quoque viis suis David prudenter agebat, et Dominus erat cum eo. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃18 ויהי דוד לכל דרכו[q] משכיל ויהוה עמו (Ⅴ)

Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
- Saül, voyant qu'il réussissait toujours, avait peur de lui; (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃δεν Σαουλ ὡς αὐτὸς συνίει σφόδρα καὶ εὐλαβει̃το ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Vidit itaque Saul quod prudens esset nimis, et cœpit cavere eum. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃18 וירא שאול אשר הוא משכיל מאד ויגר מפניו (Ⅴ)

But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

(Ⅱ) - καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδας ἠγάπα τὸν Δαυιδ ὅτι αὐτὸς ἐξεπορεύετο καὶ εἰσεπορεύετο πρὸ προσώπου του̃ λαου̃ (Ⅲ) - Omnis autem Israël et Juda diligebat David : ipse enim ingrediebatur et egrediebatur ante eos.\ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃18 וכל ישראל ויהודה אהב את דוד כי הוא יוצא ובא לפניהם פ (Ⅴ)

And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
- Saül dit à David: Voici, je te donnerai pour femme ma fille aînée Mérab; sers-moi seulement avec vaillance, et soutiens les guerres de l'Éternel. Or Saül se disait: Je ne veux pas mettre la main sur lui, mais que la main des Philistins soit sur lui. (Ⅱ) - Dixitque Saul ad David : Ecce filia mea major Merob : ipsam dabo tibi uxorem : tantummodo esto vir fortis, et præliare bella Domini. Saul autem reputabat, dicens : Non sit manus mea in eum, sed sit super eum manus Philisthinorum. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃18 ויאמר שאול אל דוד הנה בתי הגדולה מרב אתה אתן לך לאשה אך היה לי לבן חיל והלחם מלחמות יהוה ושאול אמר אל תהי ידי בו ותהי בו יד פלשתים ס (Ⅴ)

And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
- David répondit à Saül: Qui suis-je, et qu'est-ce que ma vie, qu'est-ce que la famille de mon père en Israël, pour que je devienne le gendre du roi? (Ⅱ) - Ait autem David ad Saul : Quis ego sum, aut quæ est vita mea, aut cognatio patris mei in Israël, ut fiam gener regis ? (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃18 ויאמר דוד אל שאול מי אנכי ומי חיי משפחת אבי בישראל כי אהיה חתן למלך (Ⅴ)

But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
- Lorsque arriva le temps où Mérab, fille de Saül, devait être donnée à David, elle fut donnée pour femme à Adriel, de Mehola. (Ⅱ) - Factum est autem tempus cum deberet dari Merob filia Saul David, data est Hadrieli Molathitæ uxor. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃18 ויהי בעת תת את מרב בת שאול לדוד והיא נתנה לעדריאל המחלתי לאשה (Ⅴ)

And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

(Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠγάπησεν Μελχολ ἡ θυγάτηρ Σαουλ τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπηγγέλη Σαουλ καὶ ηὐθύνθη ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Dilexit autem David Michol filia Saul altera. Et nuntiatum est Saul, et placuit ei. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃18 ותאהב מיכל בת שאול את דוד ויגדו לשאול וישר הדבר בעיניו (Ⅴ)

And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.
- Il se disait: Je la lui donnerai, afin qu'elle soit un piège pour lui, et qu'il tombe sous la main des Philistins. Et Saül dit à David pour la seconde fois: Tu vas aujourd'hui devenir mon gendre. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ δώσω αὐτὴν αὐτω̨̃ καὶ ἔσται αὐτω̨̃ εἰς σκάνδαλον καὶ ἠ̃ν ἐπὶ Σαουλ χεὶρ ἀλλοφύλων (Ⅲ) - Dixitque Saul : Dabo eam illi, ut fiat ei in scandalum, et sit super eum manus Philisthinorum. Dixitque Saul ad David : In duabus rebus gener meus eris hodie. (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃18 ויאמר שאול אתננה לו ותהי לו למוקש ותהי בו יד פלשתים ויאמר שאול אל דוד בשתים תתחתן בי היום (Ⅴ)

And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.
- Saül donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: Parlez en confidence à David, et dites-lui: Voici, le roi est bien disposé pour toi, et tous ses serviteurs t'aiment; sois maintenant le gendre du roi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐνετείλατο Σαουλ τοι̃ς παισὶν αὐτου̃ λέγων λαλήσατε ὑμει̃ς λάθρα̨ τω̨̃ Δαυιδ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὁ βασιλεὺς θέλει ἐν σοί καὶ πάντες οἱ παι̃δες αὐτου̃ ἀγαπω̃σίν σε καὶ σὺ ἐπιγάμβρευσον τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ (Ⅲ) - Et mandavit Saul servis suis : Loquimini ad David clam me, dicentes : Ecce places regi, et omnes servi ejus diligunt te : nunc ergo esto gener regis. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃18 ויצו שאול את עבדו[q] דברו אל דוד בלט לאמר הנה חפץ בך המלך וכל עבדיו אהבוך ועתה התחתן במלך (Ⅴ)

And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
- Les serviteurs de Saül répétèrent ces paroles aux oreilles de David. Et David répondit: Croyez-vous qu'il soit facile de devenir le gendre du roi? Moi, je suis un homme pauvre et de peu d'importance. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐλάλησαν οἱ παι̃δες Σαουλ εἰς τὰ ὠ̃τα Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταυ̃τα καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ εἰ κου̃φον ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς ὑμω̃ν ἐπιγαμβρευ̃σαι βασιλει̃ κἀγὼ ἀνὴρ ταπεινὸς καὶ οὐχὶ ἔνδοξος (Ⅲ) - Et locuti sunt servi Saul in auribus David omnia verba hæc. Et ait David : Num parum videtur vobis, generum esse regis ? ego autem sum vir pauper et tenuis. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃18 וידברו עבדי שאול באזני דוד את הדברים האלה ויאמר דוד הנקלה בעיניכם התחתן במלך ואנכי איש רש ונקלה (Ⅴ)

And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.
- Les serviteurs de Saül lui rapportèrent ce qu'avait répondu David. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν οἱ παι̃δες Σαουλ αὐτω̨̃ κατὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταυ̃τα ἃ ἐλάλησεν Δαυιδ (Ⅲ) - Et renuntiaverunt servi Saul dicentes : Hujuscemodi verba locutus est David. (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃18 ויגדו עבדי שאול לו לאמר כדברים האלה דבר דוד פ (Ⅴ)

And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
- Saül dit: Vous parlerez ainsi à David: Le roi ne demande point de dot; mais il désire cent prépuces de Philistins, pour être vengé de ses ennemis. Saül avait le dessein de faire tomber David entre les mains des Philistins. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ τάδε ἐρει̃τε τω̨̃ Δαυιδ οὐ βούλεται ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν δόματι ἀλλ' ἢ ἐν ἑκατὸν ἀκροβυστίαις ἀλλοφύλων ἐκδικη̃σαι εἰς ἐχθροὺς του̃ βασιλέως καὶ Σαουλ ἐλογίσατο αὐτὸν ἐμβαλει̃ν εἰς χει̃ρας τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem Saul : Sic loquimini ad David : Non habet rex sponsalia necesse, nisi tantum centum præputia Philisthinorum, ut fiat ultio de inimicis regis. Porro Saul cogitabat tradere David in manus Philisthinorum. (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃18 ויאמר שאול כה תאמרו לדוד אין חפץ למלך במהר כי במאה ערלות פלשתים להנקם באיבי המלך ושאול חשב להפיל את דוד ביד פלשתים (Ⅴ)

And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.
- Les serviteurs de Saül rapportèrent ces paroles à David, et David agréa ce qui lui était demandé pour qu'il devînt gendre du roi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπαγγέλλουσιν οἱ παι̃δες Σαουλ τω̨̃ Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταυ̃τα καὶ εὐθύνθη ὁ λόγος ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς Δαυιδ ἐπιγαμβρευ̃σαι τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ (Ⅲ) - Cumque renuntiassent servi ejus David verba quæ dixerat Saul, placuit sermo in oculis David, ut fieret gener regis. (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃18 ויגדו עבדיו לדוד את הדברים האלה וישר הדבר בעיני דוד להתחתן במלך ולא מלאו הימים (Ⅴ)

Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
- Avant le terme fixé, David se leva, partit avec ses gens, et tua deux cents hommes parmi les Philistins; il apporta leurs prépuces, et en livra au roi le nombre complet, afin de devenir gendre du roi. Alors Saül lui donna pour femme Mical, sa fille. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπορεύθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπάταξεν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀλλοφύλοις ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτω̃ν τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ καὶ ἐπιγαμβρεύεται τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ καὶ δίδωσιν αὐτω̨̃ τὴν Μελχολ θυγατέρα αὐτου̃ αὐτω̨̃ εἰς γυναι̃κα (Ⅲ) - Et post paucos dies surgens David, abiit cum viris qui sub eo erant. Et percussit ex Philisthiim ducentos viros, et attulit eorum præputia et annumeravit ea regi, ut esset gener ejus. Dedit itaque Saul ei Michol filiam suam uxorem. (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃18 ויקם דוד וילך הוא ואנשיו ויך בפלשתים מאתים איש ויבא דוד את ערלתיהם וימלאום למלך להתחתן במלך ויתן לו שאול את מיכל בתו לאשה ס (Ⅴ)

And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.
- Saül vit et comprit que l'Éternel était avec David; et Mical, sa fille, aimait David. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃δεν Σαουλ ὅτι κύριος μετὰ Δαυιδ καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ ἠγάπα αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - Et vidit Saul, et intellexit quod Dominus esset cum David. Michol autem filia Saul diligebat eum. (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃18 וירא שאול וידע כי יהוה עם דוד ומיכל בת שאול אהבתהו (Ⅴ)

And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.
- Saül craignit de plus en plus David, et il fut toute sa vie son ennemi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ προσέθετο εὐλαβει̃σθαι ἀπὸ Δαυιδ ἔτι (Ⅲ) - Et Saul magis cœpit timere David : factusque est Saul inimicus David cunctis diebus. (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃18 ויאסף שאול לרא מפני דוד עוד ויהי שאול איב את דוד כל הימים ס (Ⅴ)

Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
