And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
- Lorsque Samuel devint vieux, il établit ses fils juges sur Israël. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐγήρασεν Σαμουηλ καὶ κατέστησεν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτου̃ δικαστὰς τω̨̃ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Factum est autem cum senuisset Samuel, posuit filios suos judices Israël. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃8 ויהי כאשר זקן שמואל וישם את בניו שפטים לישראל (Ⅴ)

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
- Son fils premier-né se nommait Joël, et le second Abija; ils étaient juges à Beer Schéba. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ταυ̃τα τὰ ὀνόματα τω̃ν υἱω̃ν αὐτου̃ πρωτότοκος Ιωηλ καὶ ὄνομα του̃ δευτέρου Αβια δικασταὶ ἐν Βηρσαβεε (Ⅲ) - Fuitque nomen filii ejus primogeniti Joël : et nomen secundi Abia, judicum in Bersabee. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃8 ויהי שם בנו הבכור יואל ושם משנהו אביה שפטים בבאר שבע (Ⅴ)

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
- Les fils de Samuel ne marchèrent point sur ses traces; ils se livraient à la cupidité, recevaient des présents, et violaient la justice. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὐκ ἐπορεύθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτου̃ ἐν ὁδω̨̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐξέκλιναν ὀπίσω τη̃ς συντελείας καὶ ἐλάμβανον δω̃ρα καὶ ἐξέκλινον δικαιώματα (Ⅲ) - Et non ambulaverunt filii illius in viis ejus : sed declinaverunt post avaritiam, acceperuntque munera, et perverterunt judicium. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃8 ולא הלכו בניו *בדרכו **בדרכיו ויטו אחרי הבצע ויקחו שחד ויטו משפט פ (Ⅴ)

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
- Tous les anciens d'Israël s'assemblèrent, et vinrent auprès de Samuel à Rama. (Ⅱ) - καὶ συναθροίζονται ἄνδρες Ισραηλ καὶ παραγίνονται εἰς Αρμαθαιμ πρὸς Σαμουηλ (Ⅲ) - Congregati ergo universi majores natu Israël, venerunt ad Samuelem in Ramatha. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃8 ויתקבצו כל זקני ישראל ויבאו אל שמואל הרמתה (Ⅴ)

And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
- Ils lui dirent: Voici, tu es vieux, et tes fils ne marchent point sur tes traces; maintenant, établis sur nous un roi pour nous juger, comme il y en a chez toutes les nations. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃παν αὐτω̨̃ ἰδοὺ σὺ γεγήρακας καὶ οἱ υἱοί σου οὐ πορεύονται ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ σου καὶ νυ̃ν κατάστησον ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς βασιλέα δικάζειν ἡμα̃ς καθὰ καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἔθνη (Ⅲ) - Dixeruntque ei : Ecce tu senuisti, et filii tui non ambulant in viis tuis : constitue nobis regem, ut judicet nos, sicut et universæ habent nationes. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃8 ויאמרו אליו הנה אתה זקנת ובניך לא הלכו בדרכיך עתה שימה לנו מלך לשפטנו ככל הגוים (Ⅴ)

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
- Samuel vit avec déplaisir qu'ils disaient: Donne-nous un roi pour nous juger. Et Samuel pria l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̃ν πονηρὸν τὸ ῥη̃μα ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς Σαμουηλ ὡς εἰ̃παν δὸς ἡμι̃ν βασιλέα δικάζειν ἡμα̃ς καὶ προσηύξατο Σαμουηλ πρὸς κύριον (Ⅲ) - Displicuit sermo in oculis Samuelis, eo quod dixissent : Da nobis regem, ut judicet nos. Et oravit Samuel ad Dominum. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃8 וירע הדבר בעיני שמואל כאשר אמרו תנה לנו מלך לשפטנו ויתפלל שמואל אל יהוה פ (Ⅴ)

And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
- L'Éternel dit à Samuel: Écoute la voix du peuple dans tout ce qu'il te dira; car ce n'est pas toi qu'ils rejettent, c'est moi qu'ils rejettent, afin que je ne règne plus sur eux. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἄκουε τη̃ς φωνη̃ς του̃ λαου̃ καθὰ ἂν λαλήσωσίν σοι ὅτι οὐ σὲ ἐξουθενήκασιν ἀλλ' ἢ ἐμὲ ἐξουδενώκασιν του̃ μὴ βασιλεύειν ἐπ' αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem Dominus ad Samuelem : Audi vocem populi in omnibus quæ loquuntur tibi : non enim te abjecerunt, sed me, ne regnem super eos. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃8 ויאמר יהוה אל שמואל שמע בקול העם לכל אשר יאמרו אליך כי לא אתך מאסו כי אתי מאסו ממלך עליהם (Ⅴ)

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
- Ils agissent à ton égard comme ils ont toujours agi depuis que je les ai fait monter d'Égypte jusqu'à ce jour; ils m'ont abandonné, pour servir d'autres dieux. (Ⅱ) - κατὰ πάντα τὰ ποιήματα ἃ ἐποίησάν μοι ἀφ' ἡ̃ς ἡμέρας ἀνήγαγον αὐτοὺς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης καὶ ἐγκατέλιπόν με καὶ ἐδούλευον θεοι̃ς ἑτέροις οὕτως αὐτοὶ ποιου̃σιν καὶ σοί (Ⅲ) - Juxta omnia opera sua quæ fecerunt, a die qua eduxi eos de Ægypto usque ad diem hanc : sicut dereliquerunt me, et servierunt diis alienis, sic faciunt etiam tibi. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃8 ככל המעשים אשר עשו מיום העלתי אתם ממצרים ועד היום הזה ויעזבני ויעבדו אלהים אחרים כן המה עשים גם לך (Ⅴ)

Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
- Écoute donc leur voix; mais donne-leur des avertissements, et fais-leur connaître le droit du roi qui régnera sur eux. (Ⅱ) - καὶ νυ̃ν ἄκουε τη̃ς φωνη̃ς αὐτω̃ν πλὴν ὅτι διαμαρτυρόμενος διαμαρτύρη̨ αὐτοι̃ς καὶ ἀπαγγελει̃ς αὐτοι̃ς τὸ δικαίωμα του̃ βασιλέως ὃς βασιλεύσει ἐπ' αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Nunc ergo vocem eorum audi : verumtamen contestare eos, et prædic eis jus regis, qui regnaturus est super eos.\ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃8 ועתה שמע בקולם אך כי העד תעיד בהם והגדת להם משפט המלך אשר ימלך עליהם ס (Ⅴ)

And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.
- Samuel rapporta toutes les paroles de l'Éternel au peuple qui lui demandait un roi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαμουηλ πα̃ν τὸ ῥη̃μα κυρίου πρὸς τὸν λαὸν τοὺς αἰτου̃ντας παρ' αὐτου̃ βασιλέα (Ⅲ) - Dixit itaque Samuel omnia verba Domini ad populum, qui petierat a se regem. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃8 ויאמר שמואל את כל דברי יהוה אל העם השאלים מאתו מלך ס (Ⅴ)

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
- Il dit: Voici quel sera le droit du roi qui régnera sur vous. Il prendra vos fils, et il les mettra sur ses chars et parmi ses cavaliers, afin qu'ils courent devant son char; (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν του̃το ἔσται τὸ δικαίωμα του̃ βασιλέως ὃς βασιλεύσει ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς τοὺς υἱοὺς ὑμω̃ν λήμψεται καὶ θήσεται αὐτοὺς ἐν ἅρμασιν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἱππευ̃σιν αὐτου̃ καὶ προτρέχοντας τω̃ν ἁρμάτων αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et ait : Hoc erit jus regis, qui imperaturus est vobis : filios vestros tollet, et ponet in curribus suis : facietque sibi equites et præcursores quadrigarum suarum, (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃8 ויאמר זה יהיה משפט המלך אשר ימלך עליכם את בניכם יקח ושם לו במרכבתו ובפרשיו ורצו לפני מרכבתו (Ⅴ)

And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
- il s'en fera des chefs de mille et des chefs de cinquante, et il les emploiera à labourer ses terres, à récolter ses moissons, à fabriquer ses armes de guerre et l'attirail de ses chars. (Ⅱ) - καὶ θέσθαι αὐτοὺς ἑαυτω̨̃ χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ θερίζειν θερισμὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ τρυγα̃ν τρυγητὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ ποιει̃ν σκεύη πολεμικὰ αὐτου̃ καὶ σκεύη ἁρμάτων αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - et constituet sibi tribunos, et centuriones, et aratores agrorum suorum, et messores segetum, et fabros armorum et curruum suorum. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃8 ולשום לו שרי אלפים ושרי חמשים ולחרש חרישו ולקצר קצירו ולעשות כלי מלחמתו וכלי רכבו (Ⅴ)

And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
- Il prendra vos filles, pour en faire des parfumeuses, des cuisinières et des boulangères. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμω̃ν λήμψεται εἰς μυρεψοὺς καὶ εἰς μαγειρίσσας καὶ εἰς πεσσούσας (Ⅲ) - Filias quoque vestras faciet sibi unguentarias, et focarias, et panificas. (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃8 ואת בנותיכם יקח לרקחות ולטבחות ולאפות (Ⅴ)

And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.
- Il prendra la meilleure partie de vos champs, de vos vignes et de vos oliviers, et la donnera à ses serviteurs. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τοὺς ἀγροὺς ὑμω̃ν καὶ τοὺς ἀμπελω̃νας ὑμω̃ν καὶ τοὺς ἐλαιω̃νας ὑμω̃ν τοὺς ἀγαθοὺς λήμψεται καὶ δώσει τοι̃ς δούλοις αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Agros quoque vestros, et vineas, et oliveta optima tollet, et dabit servis suis. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃8 ואת שדותיכם ואת כרמיכם וזיתיכם הטובים יקח ונתן לעבדיו (Ⅴ)

And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
- Il prendra la dîme du produit de vos semences et de vos vignes, et la donnera à ses serviteurs. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τὰ σπέρματα ὑμω̃ν καὶ τοὺς ἀμπελω̃νας ὑμω̃ν ἀποδεκατώσει καὶ δώσει τοι̃ς εὐνούχοις αὐτου̃ καὶ τοι̃ς δούλοις αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Sed et segetes vestras et vinearum reditus addecimabit, ut det eunuchis et famulis suis. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃8 וזרעיכם וכרמיכם יעשר ונתן לסריסיו ולעבדיו (Ⅴ)

And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
- Il prendra vos serviteurs et vos servantes, vos meilleurs boeufs et vos ânes, et s'en servira pour ses travaux. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τοὺς δούλους ὑμω̃ν καὶ τὰς δούλας ὑμω̃ν καὶ τὰ βουκόλια ὑμω̃ν τὰ ἀγαθὰ καὶ τοὺς ὄνους ὑμω̃ν λήμψεται καὶ ἀποδεκατώσει εἰς τὰ ἔργα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Servos etiam vestros, et ancillas, et juvenes optimos, et asinos, auferet, et ponet in opere suo. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃8 ואת עבדיכם ואת שפחותיכם ואת בחוריכם הטובים ואת חמוריכם יקח ועשה למלאכתו (Ⅴ)

He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
- Il prendra la dîme de vos troupeaux, et vous-mêmes serez ses esclaves. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τὰ ποίμνια ὑμω̃ν ἀποδεκατώσει καὶ ὑμει̃ς ἔσεσθε αὐτω̨̃ δου̃λοι (Ⅲ) - Greges quoque vestros addecimabit, vosque eritis ei servi. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃8 צאנכם יעשר ואתם תהיו לו לעבדים (Ⅴ)

And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
- Et alors vous crierez contre votre roi que vous vous serez choisi, mais l'Éternel ne vous exaucera point. (Ⅱ) - καὶ βοήσεσθε ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ ἐκ προσώπου βασιλέως ὑμω̃ν οὑ̃ ἐξελέξασθε ἑαυτοι̃ς καὶ οὐκ ἐπακούσεται κύριος ὑμω̃ν ἐν ται̃ς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ὅτι ὑμει̃ς ἐξελέξασθε ἑαυτοι̃ς βασιλέα (Ⅲ) - Et clamabitis in die illa a facie regis vestri, quem elegistis vobis : et non exaudiet vos Dominus in die illa, quia petistis vobis regem. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃8 וזעקתם ביום ההוא מלפני מלככם אשר בחרתם לכם ולא יענה יהוה אתכם ביום ההוא (Ⅴ)

Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
- Le peuple refusa d'écouter la voix de Samuel. Non! dirent-ils, mais il y aura un roi sur nous, (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὐκ ἠβούλετο ὁ λαὸς ἀκου̃σαι του̃ Σαμουηλ καὶ εἰ̃παν αὐτω̨̃ οὐχί ἀλλ' ἢ βασιλεὺς ἔσται ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς (Ⅲ) - Noluit autem populus audire vocem Samuelis, sed dixerunt : Nequaquam : rex enim erit super nos, (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃8 וימאנו העם לשמע בקול שמואל ויאמרו לא כי אם מלך יהיה עלינו (Ⅴ)

That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
- et nous aussi nous serons comme toutes les nations; notre roi nous jurera il marchera à notre tête et conduira nos guerres. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐσόμεθα καὶ ἡμει̃ς κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καὶ δικάσει ἡμα̃ς βασιλεὺς ἡμω̃ν καὶ ἐξελεύσεται ἔμπροσθεν ἡμω̃ν καὶ πολεμήσει τὸν πόλεμον ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - et erimus nos quoque sicut omnes gentes : et judicabit nos rex noster, et egredietur ante nos, et pugnabit bella nostra pro nobis. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃8 והיינו גם אנחנו ככל הגוים ושפטנו מלכנו ויצא לפנינו ונלחם את מלחמתנו (Ⅴ)

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.
- Samuel, après avoir entendu toutes les paroles du peuple, les redit aux oreilles de l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαμουηλ πάντας τοὺς λόγους του̃ λαου̃ καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰ ὠ̃τα κυρίου (Ⅲ) - Et audivit Samuel omnia verba populi, et locutus est ea in auribus Domini. (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃8 וישמע שמואל את כל דברי העם וידברם באזני יהוה פ (Ⅴ)

And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.
- Et l'Éternel dit à Samuel: Écoute leur voix, et établis un roi sur eux. Et Samuel dit aux hommes d'Israël: Allez-vous-en chacun dans sa ville. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος πρὸς Σαμουηλ ἄκουε τη̃ς φωνη̃ς αὐτω̃ν καὶ βασίλευσον αὐτοι̃ς βασιλέα καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς ἄνδρας Ισραηλ ἀποτρεχέτω ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν πόλιν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem Dominus ad Samuelem : Audi vocem eorum, et constitue super eos regem. Et ait Samuel ad viros Israël : Vadat unusquisque in civitatem suam. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃8 ויאמר יהוה אל שמואל שמע בקולם והמלכת להם מלך ויאמר שמואל אל אנשי ישראל לכו איש לעירו פ (Ⅴ)
