Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
- Réjouis-toi, stérile, toi qui n'enfantes plus! Fais éclater ton allégresse et ta joie, toi qui n'as plus de douleurs! Car les fils de la délaissée seront plus nombreux Que les fils de celle qui est mariée, dit l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - εὐφράνθητι στει̃ρα ἡ οὐ τίκτουσα ῥη̃ξον καὶ βόησον ἡ οὐκ ὠδίνουσα ὅτι πολλὰ τὰ τέκνα τη̃ς ἐρήμου μα̃λλον ἢ τη̃ς ἐχούσης τὸν ἄνδρα εἰ̃πεν γὰρ κύριος (Ⅲ) - Lauda, sterilis, quæ non paris ;/ decanta laudem, et hinni, quæ non pariebas :/ quoniam multi filii desertæ/ magis quam ejus quæ habet virum, dicit Dominus./ (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃54 רני עקרה לא ילדה פצחי רנה וצהלי לא חלה כי רבים בני שוממה מבני בעולה אמר יהוה (Ⅴ)

Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
- Élargis l'espace de ta tente; Qu'on déploie les couvertures de ta demeure: Ne retiens pas! Allonge tes cordages, Et affermis tes pieux! (Ⅱ) - πλάτυνον τὸν τόπον τη̃ς σκηνη̃ς σου καὶ τω̃ν αὐλαιω̃ν σου πη̃ξον μὴ φείση̨ μάκρυνον τὰ σχοινίσματά σου καὶ τοὺς πασσάλους σου κατίσχυσον (Ⅲ) - Dilata locum tentorii tui,/ et pelles tabernaculorum tuorum extende :/ ne parcas :/ longos fac funiculos tuos,/ et clavos tuos consolida./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃54 הרחיבי מקום אהלך ויריעות משכנותיך יטו אל תחשכי האריכי מיתריך ויתדתיך חזקי (Ⅴ)

For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
- Car tu te répandras à droite et à gauche; Ta postérité envahira des nations, Et peuplera des villes désertes. (Ⅱ) - ἔτι εἰς τὰ δεξιὰ καὶ εἰς τὰ ἀριστερὰ ἐκπέτασον καὶ τὸ σπέρμα σου ἔθνη κληρονομήσει καὶ πόλεις ἠρημωμένας κατοικιει̃ς (Ⅲ) - Ad dexteram enim et ad lævam penetrabis,/ et semen tuum gentes hæreditabit,/ et civitates desertas inhabitabit./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃54 כי ימין ושמאול תפרצי וזרעך גוים יירש וערים נשמות יושיבו (Ⅴ)

Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
- Ne crains pas, car tu ne seras point confondue; Ne rougis pas, car tu ne seras pas déshonorée; Mais tu oublieras la honte de ta jeunesse, Et tu ne te souviendras plus de l'opprobre de ton veuvage. (Ⅱ) - μὴ φοβου̃ ὅτι κατη̨σχύνθης μηδὲ ἐντραπη̨̃ς ὅτι ὠνειδίσθης ὅτι αἰσχύνην αἰώνιον ἐπιλήση̨ καὶ ὄνειδος τη̃ς χηρείας σου οὐ μὴ μνησθήση̨ (Ⅲ) - Noli timere, quia non confunderis,/ neque erubesces ; non enim te pudebit,/ quia confusionis adolescentiæ tuæ oblivisceris,/ et opprobrii viduitatis tuæ non recordaberis amplius./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃54 אל תיראי כי לא תבושי ואל תכלמי כי לא תחפירי כי בשת עלומיך תשכחי וחרפת אלמנותיך לא תזכרי עוד (Ⅴ)

For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
- Car ton créateur est ton époux: L'Éternel des armées est son nom; Et ton rédempteur est le Saint d'Israël: Il se nomme Dieu de toute la terre; (Ⅱ) - ὅτι κύριος ὁ ποιω̃ν σε κύριος σαβαωθ ὄνομα αὐτω̨̃ καὶ ὁ ῥυσάμενός σε αὐτὸς θεὸς Ισραηλ πάση̨ τη̨̃ γη̨̃ κληθήσεται (Ⅲ) - Quia dominabitur tui qui fecit te,/ Dominus exercituum nomen ejus,/ et redemptor tuus, Sanctus Israël :/ Deus omnis terræ vocabitur./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃54 כי בעליך עשיך יהוה צבאות שמו וגאלך קדוש ישראל אלהי כל הארץ יקרא (Ⅴ)

For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
- Car l'Éternel te rappelle comme une femme délaissée et au coeur attristé, Comme une épouse de la jeunesse qui a été répudiée, dit ton Dieu. (Ⅱ) - οὐχ ὡς γυναι̃κα καταλελειμμένην καὶ ὀλιγόψυχον κέκληκέν σε κύριος οὐδ' ὡς γυναι̃κα ἐκ νεότητος μεμισημένην εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεός σου (Ⅲ) - Quia ut mulierem derelictam et mœrentem spiritu/ vocavit te Dominus,/ et uxorem ab adolescentia abjectam,/ dixit Deus tuus./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃54 כי כאשה עזובה ועצובת רוח קראך יהוה ואשת נעורים כי תמאס אמר אלהיך (Ⅴ)

For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
- Quelques instants je t'avais abandonnée, Mais avec une grande affection je t'accueillerai; (Ⅱ) - χρόνον μικρὸν κατέλιπόν σε καὶ μετὰ ἐλέους μεγάλου ἐλεήσω σε (Ⅲ) - Ad punctum in modico dereliqui te,/ et in miserationibus magnis congregabo te./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃54 ברגע קטן עזבתיך וברחמים גדלים אקבצך (Ⅴ)

In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
- Dans un instant de colère, je t'avais un moment dérobé ma face, Mais avec un amour éternel j'aurai compassion de toi, Dit ton rédempteur, l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - ἐν θυμω̨̃ μικρω̨̃ ἀπέστρεψα τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἀπὸ σου̃ καὶ ἐν ἐλέει αἰωνίω̨ ἐλεήσω σε εἰ̃πεν ὁ ῥυσάμενός σε κύριος (Ⅲ) - In momento indignationis abscondi/ faciem meam parumper a te ;/ et in misericordia sempiterna misertus sum tui,/ dixit redemptor tuus, Dominus./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃54 בשצף קצף הסתרתי פני רגע ממך ובחסד עולם רחמתיך אמר גאלך יהוה ס (Ⅴ)

For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
- Il en sera pour moi comme des eaux de Noé: J'avais juré que les eaux de Noé ne se répandraient plus sur la terre; Je jure de même de ne plus m'irriter contre toi Et de ne plus te menacer. (Ⅱ) - ἀπὸ του̃ ὕδατος του̃ ἐπὶ Νωε του̃τό μοί ἐστιν καθότι ὤμοσα αὐτω̨̃ ἐν τω̨̃ χρόνω̨ ἐκείνω̨ τη̨̃ γη̨̃ μὴ θυμωθήσεσθαι ἐπὶ σοὶ ἔτι μηδὲ ἐν ἀπειλη̨̃ σου (Ⅲ) - Sicut in diebus Noë istud mihi est,/ cui juravi ne inducerem aquas Noë ultra super terram ;/ sic juravi ut non irascar tibi,/ et non increpem te./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃54 כי מי נח זאת לי אשר נשבעתי מעבר מי נח עוד על הארץ כן נשבעתי מקצף עליך ומגער בך (Ⅴ)

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
- Quand les montagnes s'éloigneraient, Quand les collines chancelleraient, Mon amour ne s'éloignera point de toi, Et mon alliance de paix ne chancellera point, Dit l'Éternel, qui a compassion de toi. (Ⅱ) - τὰ ὄρη μεταστήσεσθαι οὐδὲ οἱ βουνοί σου μετακινηθήσονται οὕτως οὐδὲ τὸ παρ' ἐμου̃ σοι ἔλεος ἐκλείψει οὐδὲ ἡ διαθήκη τη̃ς εἰρήνης σου οὐ μὴ μεταστη̨̃ εἰ̃πεν γὰρ κύριος ἵλεώς σοι (Ⅲ) - Montes enim commovebuntur,/ et colles contremiscent ;/ misericordia autem mea non recedet a te,/ et fœdus pacis meæ non movebitur,/ dixit miserator tuus Dominus./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃54 כי ההרים ימושו והגבעות תמוטנה וחסדי מאתך לא ימוש וברית שלומי לא תמוט אמר מרחמך יהוה ס (Ⅴ)

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
- Malheureuse, battue de la tempête, et que nul ne console! Voici, je garnirai tes pierres d'antimoine, Et je te donnerai des fondements de saphir; (Ⅱ) - ταπεινὴ καὶ ἀκατάστατος οὐ παρεκλήθης ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἑτοιμάζω σοὶ ἄνθρακα τὸν λίθον σου καὶ τὰ θεμέλιά σου σάπφειρον (Ⅲ) - Paupercula, tempestate convulsa absque ulla consolatione,/ ecce ego sternam per ordinem lapides tuos,/ et fundabo te in sapphiris :/ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃54 עניה סערה לא נחמה הנה אנכי מרביץ בפוך אבניך ויסדתיך בספירים (Ⅴ)

And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.
- Je ferai tes créneaux de rubis, Tes portes d'escarboucles, Et toute ton enceinte de pierres précieuses. (Ⅱ) - καὶ θήσω τὰς ἐπάλξεις σου ἴασπιν καὶ τὰς πύλας σου λίθους κρυστάλλου καὶ τὸν περίβολόν σου λίθους ἐκλεκτοὺς (Ⅲ) - et ponam jaspidem propugnacula tua,/ et portas tuas in lapides sculptos,/ et omnes terminos tuos in lapides desiderabiles ;/ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃54 ושמתי כדכד שמשתיך ושעריך לאבני אקדח וכל גבולך לאבני חפץ (Ⅴ)

And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
- Tous tes fils seront disciples de l'Éternel, Et grande sera la postérité de tes fils. (Ⅱ) - καὶ πάντας τοὺς υἱούς σου διδακτοὺς θεου̃ καὶ ἐν πολλη̨̃ εἰρήνη̨ τὰ τέκνα σου (Ⅲ) - universos filios tuos doctos a Domino,/ et multitudinem pacis filiis tuis./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃54 וכל בניך למודי יהוה ורב שלום בניך (Ⅴ)

In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
- Tu seras affermie par la justice; Bannis l'inquiétude, car tu n'as rien à craindre, Et la frayeur, car elle n'approchera pas de toi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνη̨ οἰκοδομηθήση̨ ἀπέχου ἀπὸ ἀδίκου καὶ οὐ φοβηθήση̨ καὶ τρόμος οὐκ ἐγγιει̃ σοι (Ⅲ) - Et in justitia fundaberis :/ recede procul a calumnia, quia non timebis,/ et a pavore, quia non appropinquabit tibi./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃54 בצדקה תכונני רחקי מעשק כי לא תיראי וממחתה כי לא תקרב אליך (Ⅴ)

Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
- Si l'on forme des complots, cela ne viendra pas de moi; Quiconque se liguera contre toi tombera sous ton pouvoir. (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ προσήλυτοι προσελεύσονταί σοι δι' ἐμου̃ καὶ ἐπὶ σὲ καταφεύξονται (Ⅲ) - Ecce accola veniet qui non erat mecum,/ advena quondam tuus adjungetur tibi./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃54 הן גור יגור אפס מאותי מי גר אתך עליך יפול (Ⅴ)

Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
- Voici, j'ai créé l'ouvrier qui souffle le charbon au feu, Et qui fabrique une arme par son travail; Mais j'ai créé aussi le destructeur pour la briser. (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ κτίζω σε οὐχ ὡς χαλκεὺς φυσω̃ν ἄνθρακας καὶ ἐκφέρων σκευ̃ος εἰς ἔργον ἐγὼ δὲ ἔκτισά σε οὐκ εἰς ἀπώλειαν φθει̃ραι (Ⅲ) - Ecce ego creavi fabrum/ sufflantem in igne prunas,/ et proferentem vas in opus suum ;/ et ego creavi interfectorem ad disperdendum./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃54 *הן **הנה אנכי בראתי חרש נפח באש פחם ומוציא כלי למעשהו ואנכי בראתי משחית לחבל (Ⅴ)

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
- Toute arme forgée contre toi sera sans effet; Et toute langue qui s'élèvera en justice contre toi, Tu la condamneras. Tel est l'héritage des serviteurs de l'Éternel, Tel est le salut qui leur viendra de moi, Dit l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - πα̃ν σκευ̃ος φθαρτόν ἐπὶ σὲ οὐκ εὐοδώσω καὶ πα̃σα φωνὴ ἀναστήσεται ἐπὶ σὲ εἰς κρίσιν πάντας αὐτοὺς ἡττήσεις οἱ δὲ ἔνοχοί σου ἔσονται ἐν αὐτη̨̃ ἔστιν κληρονομία τοι̃ς θεραπεύουσιν κύριον καὶ ὑμει̃ς ἔσεσθέ μοι δίκαιοι λέγει κύριος (Ⅲ) - Omne vas quod fictum est contra te, non dirigetur,/ et omnem linguam resistentem tibi in judicio, judicabis./ Hæc est hæreditas servorum Domini,/ et justitia eorum apud me, dicit Dominus.] (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃54 כל כלי יוצר עליך לא יצלח וכל לשון תקום אתך למשפט תרשיעי זאת נחלת עבדי יהוה וצדקתם מאתי נאם יהוה ס (Ⅴ)
