Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
- Mais les ténèbres ne régneront pas toujours Sur la terre où il y a maintenant des angoisses: Si les temps passés ont couvert d'opprobre Le pays de Zabulon et le pays de Nephthali, Les temps à venir couvriront de gloire La contrée voisine de la mer, au delà du Jourdain, Le territoire des Gentils. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
- Le peuple qui marchait dans les ténèbres Voit une grande lumière; Sur ceux qui habitaient le pays de l'ombre de la mort Une lumière resplendit. Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
- Tu rends le peuple nombreux, Tu lui accordes de grandes joies; Il se réjouit devant toi, comme on se réjouit à la moisson, Comme on pousse des cris d'allégresse au partage du butin. (Ⅱ) - τὸ πλει̃στον του̃ λαου̃ ὃ κατήγαγες ἐν εὐφροσύνη̨ σου καὶ εὐφρανθήσονται ἐνώπιόν σου ὡς οἱ εὐφραινόμενοι ἐν ἀμήτω̨ καὶ ὃν τρόπον οἱ διαιρούμενοι σκυ̃λα (Ⅲ) - Multiplicasti gentem,/ et non magnificasti lætitiam./ Lætabuntur coram te, sicut qui lætantur in messe ;/ sicut exsultant victores capta præda, quando dividunt spolia./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃9 הרבית הגוי *לא **לו הגדלת השמחה שמחו לפניך כשמחת בקציר כאשר יגילו בחלקם שלל (Ⅴ)

For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
- Car le joug qui pesait sur lui, Le bâton qui frappait son dos, La verge de celui qui l'opprimait, Tu les brises, comme à la journée de Madian. (Ⅱ) - διότι ἀφή̨ρηται ὁ ζυγὸς ὁ ἐπ' αὐτω̃ν κείμενος καὶ ἡ ῥάβδος ἡ ἐπὶ του̃ τραχήλου αὐτω̃ν τὴν γὰρ ῥάβδον τω̃ν ἀπαιτούντων διεσκέδασεν κύριος ὡς τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ ἐπὶ Μαδιαμ (Ⅲ) - Jugum enim oneris ejus,/ et virgam humeri ejus,/ et sceptrum exactoris ejus/ superasti, sicut in die Madian./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃9 כי את על סבלו ואת מטה שכמו שבט הנגש בו החתת כיום מדין (Ⅴ)

For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
- Car toute chaussure qu'on porte dans la mêlée, Et tout vêtement guerrier roulé dans le sang, Seront livrés aux flammes, Pour être dévorés par le feu. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι πα̃σαν στολὴν ἐπισυνηγμένην δόλω̨ καὶ ἱμάτιον μετὰ καταλλαγη̃ς ἀποτείσουσιν καὶ θελήσουσιν εἰ ἐγενήθησαν πυρίκαυστοι (Ⅲ) - Quia omnis violentia prædatio cum tumultu,/ et vestimentum mistum sanguine,/ erit in combustionem,/ et cibus ignis./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃9 כי כל סאון סאן ברעש ושמלה מגוללה בדמים והיתה לשרפה מאכלת אש (Ⅴ)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
- Car un enfant nous est né, un fils nous est donné, Et la domination reposera sur son épaule; On l'appellera Admirable, Conseiller, Dieu puissant, Père éternel, Prince de la paix. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι παιδίον ἐγεννήθη ἡμι̃ν υἱὸς καὶ ἐδόθη ἡμι̃ν οὑ̃ ἡ ἀρχὴ ἐγενήθη ἐπὶ του̃ ὤμου αὐτου̃ καὶ καλει̃ται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτου̃ μεγάλης βουλη̃ς ἄγγελος ἐγὼ γὰρ ἄξω εἰρήνην ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας εἰρήνην καὶ ὑγίειαν αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Parvulus enim natus est nobis,/ et filius datus est nobis,/ et factus est principatus super humerum ejus :/ et vocabitur nomen ejus,/ Admirabilis, Consiliarius, Deus, Fortis,/ Pater futuri sæculi, Princeps pacis./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃9 כי ילד ילד לנו בן נתן לנו ותהי המשרה על שכמו ויקרא שמו פלא יועץ אל גבור אביעד שר שלום (Ⅴ)

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
- Donner à l'empire de l'accroissement, Et une paix sans fin au trône de David et à son royaume, L'affermir et le soutenir par le droit et par la justice, Dès maintenant et à toujours: Voilà ce que fera le zèle de l'Éternel des armées. The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
- Tout le peuple en aura connaissance, Éphraïm et les habitants de Samarie, Qui disent avec orgueil et fierté: (Ⅱ) - καὶ γνώσονται πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς του̃ Εφραιμ καὶ οἱ ἐγκαθήμενοι ἐν Σαμαρεία̨ ἐφ' ὕβρει καὶ ὑψηλη̨̃ καρδία̨ λέγοντες (Ⅲ) - Et sciet omnis populus Ephraim,/ et habitantes Samariam,/ in superbia et magnitudine cordis dicentes :/ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃9 וידעו העם כלו אפרים ויושב שמרון בגאוה ובגדל לבב לאמר (Ⅴ)

The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
- Des briques sont tombées, Nous bâtirons en pierres de taille; Des sycomores ont été coupés, Nous les remplacerons par des cèdres. (Ⅱ) - πλίνθοι πεπτώκασιν ἀλλὰ δευ̃τε λαξεύσωμεν λίθους καὶ ἐκκόψωμεν συκαμίνους καὶ κέδρους καὶ οἰκοδομήσωμεν ἑαυτοι̃ς πύργον (Ⅲ) - Lateres ceciderunt, sed quadris lapidibus ædificabimus ;/ sycomoros succiderunt, sed cedros immutabimus./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃9 לבנים נפלו וגזית נבנה שקמים גדעו וארזים נחליף (Ⅴ)

Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
- L'Éternel élèvera contre eux les ennemis de Retsin, Et il armera leurs ennemis, (Ⅱ) - καὶ ῥάξει ὁ θεὸς τοὺς ἐπανιστανομένους ἐπ' ὄρος Σιων ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτω̃ν διασκεδάσει (Ⅲ) - Et elevabit Dominus hostes Rasin super eum,/ et inimicos ejus in tumultum vertet./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃9 וישגב יהוה את צרי רצין עליו ואת איביו יסכסך (Ⅴ)

The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
- Les Syriens à l'orient, les Philistins à l'occident; Et ils dévoreront Israël à pleine bouche. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne s'apaise point, Et sa main est encore étendue. (Ⅱ) - Συρίαν ἀφ' ἡλίου ἀνατολω̃ν καὶ τοὺς 'Έλληνας ἀφ' ἡλίου δυσμω̃ν τοὺς κατεσθίοντας τὸν Ισραηλ ὅλω̨ τω̨̃ στόματι ἐπὶ τούτοις πα̃σιν οὐκ ἀπεστράφη ὁ θυμός ἀλλ' ἔτι ἡ χεὶρ ὑψηλή (Ⅲ) - Syriam ab oriente, et Philisthiim ab occidente ;/ et devorabunt Israël toto ore./ In omnibus his non est aversus furor ejus,/ sed adhuc manus ejus extenta./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃9 ארם מקדם ופלשתים מאחור ויאכלו את ישראל בכל פה בכל זאת לא שב אפו ועוד ידו נטויה (Ⅴ)

For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.
- Le peuple ne revient pas à celui qui le frappe, Et il ne cherche pas l'Éternel des armées. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ὁ λαὸς οὐκ ἀπεστράφη ἕως ἐπλήγη καὶ τὸν κύριον οὐκ ἐξεζήτησαν (Ⅲ) - Et populus non est reversus ad percutientem se,/ et Dominum exercituum non inquisierunt./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃9 והעם לא שב עד המכהו ואת יהוה צבאות לא דרשו ס (Ⅴ)

Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
- Aussi l'Éternel arrachera d'Israël la tête et la queue, La branche de palmier et le roseau, En un seul jour. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀφει̃λεν κύριος ἀπὸ Ισραηλ κεφαλὴν καὶ οὐράν μέγαν καὶ μικρὸν ἐν μια̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ (Ⅲ) - Et disperdet Dominus ab Israël caput et caudam,/ incurvantem et refrenantem, die una./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃9 ויכרת יהוה מישראל ראש וזנב כפה ואגמון יום אחד (Ⅴ)

The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
- (L'ancien et le magistrat, c'est la tête, Et le prophète qui enseigne le mensonge, c'est la queue.) (Ⅱ) - πρεσβύτην καὶ τοὺς τὰ πρόσωπα θαυμάζοντας αὕτη ἡ ἀρχή καὶ προφήτην διδάσκοντα ἄνομα οὑ̃τος ἡ οὐρά (Ⅲ) - Longævus et honorabilis, ipse est caput ;/ et propheta docens mendacium, ipse est cauda./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃9 זקן ונשוא פנים הוא הראש ונביא מורה שקר הוא הזנב (Ⅴ)

For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
- Ceux qui conduisent ce peuple l'égarent, Et ceux qui se laissent conduire se perdent. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔσονται οἱ μακαρίζοντες τὸν λαὸν του̃τον πλανω̃ντες καὶ πλανω̃σιν ὅπως καταπίωσιν αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Et erunt qui beatificant populum istum, seducentes ;/ et qui beatificantur, præcipitati./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃9 ויהיו מאשרי העם הזה מתעים ומאשריו מבלעים (Ⅴ)

Therefore the LORD shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
- C'est pourquoi le Seigneur ne saurait se réjouir de leurs jeunes hommes, Ni avoir pitié de leurs orphelins et de leurs veuves; Car tous sont des impies et des méchants, Et toutes les bouches profèrent des infamies. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne s'apaise point, Et sa main est encore étendue. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το ἐπὶ τοὺς νεανίσκους αὐτω̃ν οὐκ εὐφρανθήσεται ὁ θεὸς καὶ τοὺς ὀρφανοὺς αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰς χήρας αὐτω̃ν οὐκ ἐλεήσει ὅτι πάντες ἄνομοι καὶ πονηροί καὶ πα̃ν στόμα λαλει̃ ἄδικα ἐπὶ πα̃σιν τούτοις οὐκ ἀπεστράφη ὁ θυμός ἀλλ' ἔτι ἡ χεὶρ ὑψηλή (Ⅲ) - Propter hoc super adolescentulis ejus non lætabitur Dominus,/ et pupillorum ejus et viduarum non miserebitur :/ quia omnis hypocrita est et nequam,/ et universum os locutum est stultitiam ;/ in omnibus his non est aversus furor ejus,/ sed adhuc manus ejus extenta./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃9 על כן על בחוריו לא ישמח אדני ואת יתמיו ואת אלמנתיו לא ירחם כי כלו חנף ומרע וכל פה דבר נבלה בכל זאת לא שב אפו ועוד ידו נטויה (Ⅴ)

For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
- Car la méchanceté consume comme un feu, Qui dévore ronces et épines; Il embrase l'épaisseur de la forêt, D'où s'élèvent des colonnes de fumée. (Ⅱ) - καὶ καυθήσεται ὡς πυ̃ρ ἡ ἀνομία καὶ ὡς ἄγρωστις ξηρὰ βρωθήσεται ὑπὸ πυρός καὶ καυθήσεται ἐν τοι̃ς δάσεσι του̃ δρυμου̃ καὶ συγκαταφάγεται τὰ κύκλω̨ τω̃ν βουνω̃ν πάντα (Ⅲ) - Succensa est enim quasi ignis impietas :/ veprem et spinam vorabit,/ et succendetur in densitate saltus,/ et convolvetur superbia fumi./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃9 כי בערה כאש רשעה שמיר ושית תאכל ותצת בסבכי היער ויתאבכו גאות עשן (Ⅴ)

Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.
- Par la colère de l'Éternel des armées le pays est embrasé, Et le peuple est comme la proie du feu; Nul n'épargne son frère. (Ⅱ) - διὰ θυμὸν ὀργη̃ς κυρίου συγκέκαυται ἡ γη̃ ὅλη καὶ ἔσται ὁ λαὸς ὡς ὑπὸ πυρὸς κατακεκαυμένος ἄνθρωπος τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτου̃ οὐκ ἐλεήσει (Ⅲ) - In ira Domini exercituum conturbata est terra,/ et erit populus quasi esca ignis ;/ vir fratri suo non parcet./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃9 בעברת יהוה צבאות נעתם ארץ ויהי העם כמאכלת אש איש אל אחיו לא יחמלו (Ⅴ)

And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
- On pille à droite, et l'on a faim; On dévore à gauche, et l'on n'est pas rassasié; Chacun dévore la chair de son bras. (Ⅱ) - ἀλλὰ ἐκκλινει̃ εἰς τὰ δεξιά ὅτι πεινάσει καὶ φάγεται ἐκ τω̃ν ἀριστερω̃ν καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐμπλησθη̨̃ ἄνθρωπος ἔσθων τὰς σάρκας του̃ βραχίονος αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et declinabit ad dexteram, et esuriet ;/ et comedet ad sinistram, et non saturabitur ;/ unusquisque carnem brachii sui vorabit :/ Manasses Ephraim, et Ephraim Manassen ;/ simul ipsi contra Judam./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃9 ויגזר על ימין ורעב ויאכל על שמאול ולא שבעו איש בשר זרעו יאכלו (Ⅴ)

Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
- Manassé dévore Éphraïm, Éphraïm Manassé, Et ensemble ils fondent sur Juda. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne s'apaise point, Et sa main est encore étendue. (Ⅱ) - φάγεται γὰρ Μανασση του̃ Εφραιμ καὶ Εφραιμ του̃ Μανασση ὅτι ἅμα πολιορκήσουσιν τὸν Ιουδαν ἐπὶ τούτοις πα̃σιν οὐκ ἀπεστράφη ὁ θυμός ἀλλ' ἔτι ἡ χεὶρ ὑψηλή (Ⅲ) - In omnibus his non est aversus furor ejus,/ sed adhuc manus ejus extenta.] (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃9 מנשה את אפרים ואפרים את מנשה יחדו המה על יהודה בכל זאת לא שב אפו ועוד ידו נטויה ס (Ⅴ)
