- Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. J'ouvre la bouche par des sentences, Je publie la sagesse des temps anciens.
- I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: (Ⅱ) - ἀνοίξω ἐν παραβολαι̃ς τὸ στόμα μου φθέγξομαι προβλήματα ἀπ' ἀρχη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Aperiam in parabolis os meum ;/ loquar propositiones ab initio./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃78 אפתחה במשל פי אביעה חידות מני קדם (Ⅴ)

Ce que nous avons entendu, ce que nous savons, Ce que nos pères nous ont raconté,
- Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. (Ⅱ) - ὅσα ἠκούσαμεν καὶ ἔγνωμεν αὐτὰ καὶ οἱ πατέρες ἡμω̃ν διηγήσαντο ἡμι̃ν (Ⅲ) - Quanta audivimus, et cognovimus ea,/ et patres nostri narraverunt nobis./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃78 אשר שמענו ונדעם ואבותינו ספרו לנו (Ⅴ)

Nous ne le cacherons point à leurs enfants; Nous dirons à la génération future les louanges de l'Éternel, Et sa puissance, et les prodiges qu'il a opérés.
- We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. (Ⅱ) - οὐκ ἐκρύβη ἀπὸ τω̃ν τέκνων αὐτω̃ν εἰς γενεὰν ἑτέραν ἀπαγγέλλοντες τὰς αἰνέσεις του̃ κυρίου καὶ τὰς δυναστείας αὐτου̃ καὶ τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτου̃ ἃ ἐποίησεν (Ⅲ) - Non sunt occultata a filiis eorum in generatione altera,/ narrantes laudes Domini et virtutes ejus,/ et mirabilia ejus quæ fecit./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃78 לא נכחד מבניהם לדור אחרון מספרים תהלות יהוה ועזוזו ונפלאותיו אשר עשה (Ⅴ)

Il a établi un témoignage en Jacob, Il a mis une loi en Israël, Et il a ordonné à nos pères de l'enseigner à leurs enfants,
- For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀνέστησεν μαρτύριον ἐν Ιακωβ καὶ νόμον ἔθετο ἐν Ισραηλ ὅσα ἐνετείλατο τοι̃ς πατράσιν ἡμω̃ν του̃ γνωρίσαι αὐτὰ τοι̃ς υἱοι̃ς αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et suscitavit testimonium in Jacob,/ et legem posuit in Israël,/ quanta mandavit patribus nostris/ nota facere ea filiis suis :/ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃78 ויקם עדות ביעקב ותורה שם בישראל אשר צוה את אבותינו להודיעם לבניהם (Ⅴ)

Pour qu'elle fût connue de la génération future, Des enfants qui naîtraient, Et que, devenus grands, ils en parlassent à leurs enfants,
- That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: (Ⅱ) - ὅπως ἂν γνω̨̃ γενεὰ ἑτέρα υἱοὶ οἱ τεχθησόμενοι καὶ ἀναστήσονται καὶ ἀπαγγελου̃σιν αὐτὰ τοι̃ς υἱοι̃ς αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - ut cognoscat generatio altera :/ filii qui nascentur et exsurgent,/ et narrabunt filiis suis,/ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃78 למען ידעו דור אחרון בנים יולדו יקמו ויספרו לבניהם (Ⅴ)

Afin qu'ils missent en Dieu leur confiance, Qu'ils n'oubliassent pas les oeuvres de Dieu, Et qu'ils observassent ses commandements,
- That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: (Ⅱ) - ἵνα θω̃νται ἐπὶ τὸν θεὸν τὴν ἐλπίδα αὐτω̃ν καὶ μὴ ἐπιλάθωνται τω̃ν ἔργων του̃ θεου̃ καὶ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτου̃ ἐκζητήσουσιν (Ⅲ) - ut ponant in Deo spem suam,/ et non obliviscantur operum Dei,/ et mandata ejus exquirant :/ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃78 וישימו באלהים כסלם ולא ישכחו מעללי אל ומצותיו ינצרו (Ⅴ)

Afin qu'ils ne fussent pas, comme leurs pères, Une race indocile et rebelle, Une race dont le coeur n'était pas ferme, Et dont l'esprit n'était pas fidèle à Dieu.
- And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. (Ⅱ) - ἵνα μὴ γένωνται ὡς οἱ πατέρες αὐτω̃ν γενεὰ σκολιὰ καὶ παραπικραίνουσα γενεά ἥτις οὐ κατηύθυνεν τὴν καρδίαν αὐτη̃ς καὶ οὐκ ἐπιστώθη μετὰ του̃ θεου̃ τὸ πνευ̃μα αὐτη̃ς (Ⅲ) - ne fiant, sicut patres eorum,/ generatio prava et exasperans ;/ generatio quæ non direxit cor suum,/ et non est creditus cum Deo spiritus ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃78 ולא יהיו כאבותם דור סורר ומרה דור לא הכין לבו ולא נאמנה את אל רוחו (Ⅴ)

Les fils d'Éphraïm, armés et tirant de l'arc, Tournèrent le dos le jour du combat.
- The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. (Ⅱ) - υἱοὶ Εφραιμ ἐντείνοντες καὶ βάλλοντες τόξοις ἐστράφησαν ἐν ἡμέρα̨ πολέμου (Ⅲ) - Filii Ephrem, intendentes et mittentes arcum,/ conversi sunt in die belli./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃78 בני אפרים נושקי רומי קשת הפכו ביום קרב (Ⅴ)

Ils ne gardèrent point l'alliance de Dieu, Et ils refusèrent de marcher selon sa loi.
- They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; (Ⅱ) - οὐκ ἐφύλαξαν τὴν διαθήκην του̃ θεου̃ καὶ ἐν τω̨̃ νόμω̨ αὐτου̃ οὐκ ἤθελον πορεύεσθαι (Ⅲ) - Non custodierunt testamentum Dei,/ et in lege ejus noluerunt ambulare./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃78 לא שמרו ברית אלהים ובתורתו מאנו ללכת (Ⅴ)

Ils mirent en oubli ses oeuvres, Ses merveilles qu'il leur avait fait voir.
- And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπελάθοντο τω̃ν εὐεργεσιω̃ν αὐτου̃ καὶ τω̃ν θαυμασίων αὐτου̃ ὡ̃ν ἔδειξεν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et obliti sunt benefactorum ejus,/ et mirabilium ejus quæ ostendit eis./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃78 וישכחו עלילותיו ונפלאותיו אשר הראם (Ⅴ)

Devant leurs pères il avait fait des prodiges, Au pays d'Égypte, dans les campagnes de Tsoan.
- Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. Il fendit la mer et leur ouvrit un passage, Il fit dresser les eaux comme une muraille.
- He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. (Ⅱ) - διέρρηξεν θάλασσαν καὶ διήγαγεν αὐτούς ἔστησεν ὕδατα ὡσεὶ ἀσκὸν (Ⅲ) - Interrupit mare, et perduxit eos,/ et statuit aquas quasi in utre :/ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃78 בקע ים ויעבירם ויצב מים כמו נד (Ⅴ)

Il les conduisit le jour par la nuée, Et toute la nuit par un feu éclatant.
- In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ὡδήγησεν αὐτοὺς ἐν νεφέλη̨ ἡμέρας καὶ ὅλην τὴν νύκτα ἐν φωτισμω̨̃ πυρός (Ⅲ) - et deduxit eos in nube diei,/ et tota nocte in illuminatione ignis./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃78 וינחם בענן יומם וכל הלילה באור אש (Ⅴ)

Il fendit des rochers dans le désert, Et il donna à boire comme des flots abondants;
- He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. (Ⅱ) - διέρρηξεν πέτραν ἐν ἐρήμω̨ καὶ ἐπότισεν αὐτοὺς ὡς ἐν ἀβύσσω̨ πολλη̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Interrupit petram in eremo,/ et adaquavit eos velut in abysso multa./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃78 יבקע צרים במדבר וישק כתהמות רבה (Ⅴ)

Du rocher il fit jaillir des sources, Et couler des eaux comme des fleuves.
- He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξήγαγεν ὕδωρ ἐκ πέτρας καὶ κατήγαγεν ὡς ποταμοὺς ὕδατα (Ⅲ) - Et eduxit aquam de petra,/ et deduxit tamquam flumina aquas./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃78 ויוצא נוזלים מסלע ויורד כנהרות מים (Ⅴ)

Mais ils continuèrent à pécher contre lui, A se révolter contre le Très Haut dans le désert.
- And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. (Ⅱ) - καὶ προσέθεντο ἔτι του̃ ἁμαρτάνειν αὐτω̨̃ παρεπίκραναν τὸν ὕψιστον ἐν ἀνύδρω̨ (Ⅲ) - Et apposuerunt adhuc peccare ei ;/ in iram excitaverunt Excelsum in inaquoso./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃78 ויוסיפו עוד[c] לחטא לו למרות עליון בציה (Ⅴ)

Ils tentèrent Dieu dans leur coeur, En demandant de la nourriture selon leur désir.
- And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξεπείρασαν τὸν θεὸν ἐν ται̃ς καρδίαις αὐτω̃ν του̃ αἰτη̃σαι βρώματα ται̃ς ψυχαι̃ς αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et tentaverunt Deum in cordibus suis,/ ut peterent escas animabus suis./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃78 וינסו אל בלבבם לשאל אכל לנפשם (Ⅴ)

Ils parlèrent contre Dieu, Ils dirent: Dieu pourrait-il Dresser une table dans le désert?
- Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? (Ⅱ) - καὶ κατελάλησαν του̃ θεου̃ καὶ εἰ̃παν μὴ δυνήσεται ὁ θεὸς ἑτοιμάσαι τράπεζαν ἐν ἐρήμω̨ (Ⅲ) - Et male locuti sunt de Deo ;/ dixerunt : Numquid poterit Deus parare mensam in deserto ?/ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃78 וידברו באלהים אמרו היוכל אל לערך שלחן במדבר (Ⅴ)

Voici, il a frappé le rocher, et des eaux ont coulé, Et des torrents se sont répandus; Pourra-t-il aussi donner du pain, Ou fournir de la viande à son peuple?
- Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? (Ⅱ) - ἐπεὶ ἐπάταξεν πέτραν καὶ ἐρρύησαν ὕδατα καὶ χείμαρροι κατεκλύσθησαν μὴ καὶ ἄρτον δύναται δου̃ναι ἢ ἑτοιμάσαι τράπεζαν τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - quoniam percussit petram, et fluxerunt aquæ,/ et torrentes inundaverunt./ Numquid et panem poterit dare,/ aut parare mensam populo suo ?/ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃78 הן הכה צור ויזובו מים ונחלים ישטפו הגם לחם יוכל תת אם יכין שאר לעמו (Ⅴ)

L'Éternel entendit, et il fut irrité; Un feu s'alluma contre Jacob, Et la colère s'éleva contre Israël,
- Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το ἤκουσεν κύριος καὶ ἀνεβάλετο καὶ πυ̃ρ ἀνήφθη ἐν Ιακωβ καὶ ὀργὴ ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Ideo audivit Dominus et distulit ;/ et ignis accensus est in Jacob,/ et ira ascendit in Israël :/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃78 לכן שמע יהוה ויתעבר ואש נשקה ביעקב וגם אף עלה בישראל (Ⅴ)

Parce qu'ils ne crurent pas en Dieu, Parce qu'ils n'eurent pas confiance dans son secours.
- Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: (Ⅱ) - ὅτι οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν ἐν τω̨̃ θεω̨̃ οὐδὲ ἤλπισαν ἐπὶ τὸ σωτήριον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - quia non crediderunt in Deo,/ nec speraverunt in salutari ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃78 כי לא האמינו באלהים ולא בטחו בישועתו (Ⅴ)

Il commanda aux nuages d'en haut, Et il ouvrit les portes des cieux;
- Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐνετείλατο νεφέλαις ὑπεράνωθεν καὶ θύρας οὐρανου̃ ἀνέω̨ξεν (Ⅲ) - Et mandavit nubibus desuper,/ et januas cæli aperuit./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃78 ויצו שחקים ממעל ודלתי שמים פתח (Ⅴ)

Il fit pleuvoir sur eux la manne pour nourriture, Il leur donna le blé du ciel.
- And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔβρεξεν αὐτοι̃ς μαννα φαγει̃ν καὶ ἄρτον οὐρανου̃ ἔδωκεν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et pluit illis manna ad manducandum,/ et panem cæli dedit eis./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃78 וימטר עליהם מן לאכל ודגן שמים נתן למו (Ⅴ)

Ils mangèrent tous le pain des grands, Il leur envoya de la nourriture à satiété.
- Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. (Ⅱ) - ἄρτον ἀγγέλων ἔφαγεν ἄνθρωπος ἐπισιτισμὸν ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοι̃ς εἰς πλησμονήν (Ⅲ) - Panem angelorum manducavit homo ;/ cibaria misit eis in abundantia./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃78 לחם אבירים אכל איש צידה שלח להם לשבע (Ⅴ)

Il fit souffler dans les cieux le vent d'orient, Et il amena par sa puissance le vent du midi;
- He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. (Ⅱ) - ἀπη̃ρεν νότον ἐξ οὐρανου̃ καὶ ἐπήγαγεν ἐν τη̨̃ δυναστεία̨ αὐτου̃ λίβα (Ⅲ) - Transtulit austrum de cælo,/ et induxit in virtute sua africum./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃78 יסע קדים בשמים וינהג בעזו תימן (Ⅴ)

Il fit pleuvoir sur eux la viande comme de la poussière, Et comme le sable des mers les oiseaux ailés;
- He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔβρεξεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς ὡσεὶ χου̃ν σάρκας καὶ ὡσεὶ ἄμμον θαλασσω̃ν πετεινὰ πτερωτά (Ⅲ) - Et pluit super eos sicut pulverem carnes,/ et sicut arenam maris volatilia pennata./ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃78 וימטר עליהם כעפר שאר וכחול ימים עוף כנף (Ⅴ)

Il les fit tomber au milieu de leur camp, Tout autour de leurs demeures.
- And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπέπεσον εἰς μέσον τη̃ς παρεμβολη̃ς αὐτω̃ν κύκλω̨ τω̃ν σκηνωμάτων αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et ceciderunt in medio castrorum eorum,/ circa tabernacula eorum./ (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃78 ויפל בקרב מחנהו סביב למשכנתיו (Ⅴ)

Ils mangèrent et se rassasièrent abondamment: Dieu leur donna ce qu'ils avaient désiré.
- So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire; (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐφάγοσαν καὶ ἐνεπλήσθησαν σφόδρα καὶ τὴν ἐπιθυμίαν αὐτω̃ν ἤνεγκεν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et manducaverunt, et saturati sunt nimis,/ et desiderium eorum attulit eis :/ (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃78 ויאכלו וישבעו מאד ותאותם יבא להם (Ⅴ)

Ils n'avaient pas satisfait leur désir, Ils avaient encore leur nourriture dans la bouche,
- They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, (Ⅱ) - οὐκ ἐστερήθησαν ἀπὸ τη̃ς ἐπιθυμίας αὐτω̃ν ἔτι τη̃ς βρώσεως αὐτω̃ν οὔσης ἐν τω̨̃ στόματι αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - non sunt fraudati a desiderio suo./ Adhuc escæ eorum erant in ore ipsorum,/ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃78 לא זרו מתאותם עוד אכלם בפיהם (Ⅴ)

Lorsque la colère de Dieu s'éleva contre eux; Il frappa de mort les plus vigoureux, Il abattit les jeunes hommes d'Israël.
- The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ὀργὴ του̃ θεου̃ ἀνέβη ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν ἐν τοι̃ς πίοσιν αὐτω̃ν καὶ τοὺς ἐκλεκτοὺς του̃ Ισραηλ συνεπόδισεν (Ⅲ) - et ira Dei ascendit super eos :/ et occidit pingues eorum,/ et electos Israël impedivit./ (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃78 ואף אלהים עלה בהם ויהרג במשמניהם ובחורי ישראל הכריע (Ⅴ)

Malgré tout cela, ils continuèrent à pécher, Et ne crurent point à ses prodiges.
- For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works. (Ⅱ) - ἐν πα̃σιν τούτοις ἥμαρτον ἔτι καὶ οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν ἐν τοι̃ς θαυμασίοις αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - In omnibus his peccaverunt adhuc,/ et non crediderunt in mirabilibus ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃78 בכל זאת חטאו עוד ולא האמינו בנפלאותיו (Ⅴ)

Il consuma leurs jours par la vanité, Et leurs années par une fin soudaine.
- Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξέλιπον ἐν ματαιότητι αἱ ἡμέραι αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰ ἔτη αὐτω̃ν μετὰ σπουδη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et defecerunt in vanitate dies eorum,/ et anni eorum cum festinatione./ (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃78 ויכל בהבל ימיהם ושנותם בבהלה (Ⅴ)

Quand il les frappait de mort, ils le cherchaient, Ils revenaient et se tournaient vers Dieu;
- When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God. (Ⅱ) - ὅταν ἀπέκτεννεν αὐτούς ἐξεζήτουν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐπέστρεφον καὶ ὤρθριζον πρὸς τὸν θεὸν (Ⅲ) - Cum occideret eos, quærebant eum et revertebantur,/ et diluculo veniebant ad eum./ (Ⅳ) - 34 ׃78 אם הרגם ודרשוהו ושבו ושחרו אל (Ⅴ)

Ils se souvenaient que Dieu était leur rocher, Que le Dieu Très Haut était leur libérateur.
- And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐμνήσθησαν ὅτι ὁ θεὸς βοηθὸς αὐτω̃ν ἐστιν καὶ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ὕψιστος λυτρωτὴς αὐτω̃ν ἐστιν (Ⅲ) - Et rememorati sunt quia Deus adjutor est eorum,/ et Deus excelsus redemptor eorum est./ (Ⅳ) - 35 ׃78 ויזכרו כי אלהים צורם ואל עליון גאלם (Ⅴ)

Mais ils le trompaient de la bouche, Et ils lui mentaient de la langue;
- Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠπάτησαν αὐτὸν ἐν τω̨̃ στόματι αὐτω̃ν καὶ τη̨̃ γλώσση̨ αὐτω̃ν ἐψεύσαντο αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Et dilexerunt eum in ore suo,/ et lingua sua mentiti sunt ei ;/ (Ⅳ) - 36 ׃78 ויפתוהו בפיהם ובלשונם יכזבו לו (Ⅴ)

Leur coeur n'était pas ferme envers lui, Et ils n'étaient pas fidèles à son alliance.
- For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant. (Ⅱ) - ἡ δὲ καρδία αὐτω̃ν οὐκ εὐθει̃α μετ' αὐτου̃ οὐδὲ ἐπιστώθησαν ἐν τη̨̃ διαθήκη̨ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - cor autem eorum non erat rectum cum eo,/ nec fideles habiti sunt in testamento ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 37 ׃78 ולבם לא נכון עמו ולא נאמנו בבריתו (Ⅴ)

Toutefois, dans sa miséricorde, il pardonne l'iniquité et ne détruit pas; Il retient souvent sa colère et ne se livre pas à toute sa fureur.
- But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. (Ⅱ) - αὐτὸς δέ ἐστιν οἰκτίρμων καὶ ἱλάσεται ται̃ς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτω̃ν καὶ οὐ διαφθερει̃ καὶ πληθυνει̃ του̃ ἀποστρέψαι τὸν θυμὸν αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐχὶ ἐκκαύσει πα̃σαν τὴν ὀργὴν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Ipse autem est misericors,/ et propitius fiet peccatis eorum,/ et non disperdet eos./ Et abundavit ut averteret iram suam,/ et non accendit omnem iram suam./ (Ⅳ) - 38 ׃78 והוא רחום יכפר עון ולא ישחית והרבה להשיב אפו ולא יעיר כל חמתו (Ⅴ)

Il se souvint qu'ils n'étaient que chair, Un souffle qui s'en va et ne revient pas.
- For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐμνήσθη ὅτι σάρξ εἰσιν πνευ̃μα πορευόμενον καὶ οὐκ ἐπιστρέφον (Ⅲ) - Et recordatus est quia caro sunt,/ spiritus vadens et non rediens./ (Ⅳ) - 39 ׃78 ויזכר כי בשר המה רוח הולך ולא ישוב (Ⅴ)

Que de fois ils se révoltèrent contre lui dans le désert! Que de fois ils l'irritèrent dans la solitude!
- How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! (Ⅱ) - ποσάκις παρεπίκραναν αὐτὸν ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ παρώργισαν αὐτὸν ἐν γη̨̃ ἀνύδρω̨ (Ⅲ) - Quoties exacerbaverunt eum in deserto ;/ in iram concitaverunt eum in inaquoso ?/ (Ⅳ) - 40 ׃78 כמה ימרוהו במדבר יעציבוהו בישימון (Ⅴ)

Ils ne cessèrent de tenter Dieu, Et de provoquer le Saint d'Israël.
- Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπέστρεψαν καὶ ἐπείρασαν τὸν θεὸν καὶ τὸν ἅγιον του̃ Ισραηλ παρώξυναν (Ⅲ) - Et conversi sunt, et tentaverunt Deum,/ et sanctum Israël exacerbaverunt./ (Ⅳ) - 41 ׃78 וישובו וינסו אל וקדוש ישראל התוו[1] (Ⅴ)

Ils ne se souvinrent pas de sa puissance, Du jour où il les délivra de l'ennemi,
- They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. (Ⅱ) - οὐκ ἐμνήσθησαν τη̃ς χειρὸς αὐτου̃ ἡμέρας ἡ̃ς ἐλυτρώσατο αὐτοὺς ἐκ χειρὸς θλίβοντος (Ⅲ) - Non sunt recordati manus ejus,/ die qua redemit eos de manu tribulantis :/ (Ⅳ) - 42 ׃78 לא זכרו את ידו יום אשר פדם מני צר (Ⅴ)

Des miracles qu'il accomplit en Égypte, Et de ses prodiges dans les campagnes de Tsoan.
- How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan. (Ⅱ) - ὡς ἔθετο ἐν Αἰγύπτω̨ τὰ σημει̃α αὐτου̃ καὶ τὰ τέρατα αὐτου̃ ἐν πεδίω̨ Τάνεως (Ⅲ) - sicut posuit in Ægypto signa sua,/ et prodigia sua in campo Taneos ;/ (Ⅳ) - 43 ׃78 אשר שם במצרים אתותיו ומופתיו בשדה צען (Ⅴ)

Il changea leurs fleuves en sang, Et ils ne purent en boire les eaux.
- And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. (Ⅱ) - καὶ μετέστρεψεν εἰς αἱ̃μα τοὺς ποταμοὺς αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰ ὀμβρήματα αὐτω̃ν ὅπως μὴ πίωσιν (Ⅲ) - et convertit in sanguinem flumina eorum,/ et imbres eorum, ne biberent./ (Ⅳ) - 44 ׃78 ויהפך לדם יאריהם ונזליהם בל ישתיון (Ⅴ)

Il envoya contre eux des mouches venimeuses qui les dévorèrent, Et des grenouilles qui les détruisirent.
- He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. (Ⅱ) - ἐξαπέστειλεν εἰς αὐτοὺς κυνόμυιαν καὶ κατέφαγεν αὐτούς καὶ βάτραχον καὶ διέφθειρεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Misit in eos cœnomyiam, et comedit eos,/ et ranam, et disperdidit eos ;/ (Ⅳ) - 45 ׃78 ישלח בהם ערב ויאכלם וצפרדע ותשחיתם (Ⅴ)

Il livra leurs récoltes aux sauterelles, Le produit de leur travail aux sauterelles.
- He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔδωκεν τη̨̃ ἐρυσίβη̨ τὸν καρπὸν αὐτω̃ν καὶ τοὺς πόνους αὐτω̃ν τη̨̃ ἀκρίδι (Ⅲ) - et dedit ærugini fructus eorum,/ et labores eorum locustæ ;/ (Ⅳ) - 46 ׃78 ויתן לחסיל יבולם ויגיעם לארבה (Ⅴ)

Il fit périr leurs vignes par la grêle, Et leurs sycomores par la gelée.
- He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost. (Ⅱ) - ἀπέκτεινεν ἐν χαλάζη̨ τὴν ἄμπελον αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰς συκαμίνους αὐτω̃ν ἐν τη̨̃ πάχνη̨ (Ⅲ) - et occidit in grandine vineas eorum,/ et moros eorum in pruina ;/ (Ⅳ) - 47 ׃78 יהרג בברד גפנם ושקמותם בחנמל (Ⅴ)

Il abandonna leur bétail à la grêle, Et leurs troupeaux au feu du ciel.
- He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. (Ⅱ) - καὶ παρέδωκεν εἰς χάλαζαν τὰ κτήνη αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὴν ὕπαρξιν αὐτω̃ν τω̨̃ πυρί (Ⅲ) - et tradidit grandini jumenta eorum,/ et possessionem eorum igni ;/ (Ⅳ) - 48 ׃78 ויסגר לברד בעירם ומקניהם לרשפים (Ⅴ)

Il lança contre eux son ardente colère, La fureur, la rage et la détresse, Une troupe de messagers de malheur.
- He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. (Ⅱ) - ἐξαπέστειλεν εἰς αὐτοὺς ὀργὴν θυμου̃ αὐτου̃ θυμὸν καὶ ὀργὴν καὶ θλι̃ψιν ἀποστολὴν δι' ἀγγέλων πονηρω̃ν (Ⅲ) - misit in eos iram indignationis suæ,/ indignationem, et iram, et tribulationem,/ immissiones per angelos malos./ (Ⅳ) - 49 ׃78 ישלח בם חרון אפו עברה וזעם וצרה משלחת מלאכי רעים (Ⅴ)

Il donna libre cours à sa colère, Il ne sauva pas leur âme de la mort, Il livra leur vie à la mortalité;
- He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; (Ⅱ) - ὡδοποίησεν τρίβον τη̨̃ ὀργη̨̃ αὐτου̃ οὐκ ἐφείσατο ἀπὸ θανάτου τω̃ν ψυχω̃ν αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτω̃ν εἰς θάνατον συνέκλεισεν (Ⅲ) - Viam fecit semitæ iræ suæ :/ non pepercit a morte animabus eorum,/ et jumenta eorum in morte conclusit :/ (Ⅳ) - 50 ׃78 יפלס נתיב לאפו לא חשך ממות נפשם וחיתם לדבר הסגיר (Ⅴ)
