2. 1

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

- Ainsi furent achevés les cieux et la terre, et toute leur armée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ συνετελέσθησαν ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γη̃ καὶ πα̃ς ὁ κόσμος αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Igitur perfecti sunt cæli et terra, et omnis ornatus eorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃2 ויכלו השמים והארץ וכל צבאם ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 2

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

- Dieu acheva au septième jour son oeuvre, qu'il avait faite: et il se reposa au septième jour de toute son oeuvre, qu'il avait faite. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ συνετέλεσεν ὁ θεὸς ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ ἕκτη̨ τὰ ἔργα αὐτου̃ ἃ ἐποίησεν καὶ κατέπαυσεν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ ἑβδόμη̨ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν ἔργων αὐτου̃ ὡ̃ν ἐποίησεν (Ⅲ)

- Complevitque Deus die septimo opus suum quod fecerat : et requievit die septimo ab universo opere quod patrarat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃2 ויכל אלהים ביום השביעי מלאכתו אשר עשה וישבת ביום השביעי מכל מלאכתו אשר עשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 3

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

- Dieu bénit le septième jour, et il le sanctifia, parce qu'en ce jour il se reposa de toute son oeuvre qu'il avait créée en la faisant. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ηὐλόγησεν ὁ θεὸς τὴν ἡμέραν τὴν ἑβδόμην καὶ ἡγίασεν αὐτήν ὅτι ἐν αὐτη̨̃ κατέπαυσεν ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν ἔργων αὐτου̃ ὡ̃ν ἤρξατο ὁ θεὸς ποιη̃σαι (Ⅲ)

- Et benedixit diei septimo, et sanctificavit illum, quia in ipso cessaverat ab omni opere suo quod creavit Deus ut faceret.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃2 ויברך אלהים את יום השביעי ויקדש אתו כי בו שבת מכל מלאכתו אשר ברא אלהים לעשות פ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 4

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

- Voici les origines des cieux et de la terre, quand ils furent créés. (Ⅱ)

- αὕτη ἡ βίβλος γενέσεως οὐρανου̃ καὶ γη̃ς ὅτε ἐγένετο ἡ̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γη̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Istæ sunt generationes cæli et terræ, quando creata sunt, in die quo fecit Dominus Deus cælum et terram, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃2 אלה תולדות השמים והארץ בהבראם ביום עשות יהוה אלהים ארץ ושמים ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 5

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

- Lorsque l'Éternel Dieu fit une terre et des cieux, aucun arbuste des champs n'était encore sur la terre, et aucune herbe des champs ne germait encore: car l'Éternel Dieu n'avait pas fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n'y avait point d'homme pour cultiver le sol. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ πα̃ν χλωρὸν ἀγρου̃ πρὸ του̃ γενέσθαι ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ πάντα χόρτον ἀγρου̃ πρὸ του̃ ἀνατει̃λαι οὐ γὰρ ἔβρεξεν ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν καὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἠ̃ν ἐργάζεσθαι τὴν γη̃ν (Ⅲ)

- et omne virgultum agri antequam oriretur in terra, omnemque herbam regionis priusquam germinaret : non enim pluerat Dominus Deus super terram, et homo non erat qui operaretur terram : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃2 וכל שיח השדה טרם יהיה בארץ וכל עשב השדה טרם יצמח כי לא המטיר יהוה אלהים על הארץ ואדם אין לעבד את האדמה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 6

But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

- Mais une vapeur s'éleva de la terre, et arrosa toute la surface du sol. (Ⅱ)

- πηγὴ δὲ ἀνέβαινεν ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ἐπότιζεν πα̃ν τὸ πρόσωπον τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- sed fons ascendebat e terra, irrigans universam superficiem terræ. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃2 ואד יעלה מן הארץ והשקה את כל פני האדמה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 7

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

- L'Éternel Dieu forma l'homme de la poussière de la terre, il souffla dans ses narines un souffle de vie et l'homme devint un être vivant. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔπλασεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον χου̃ν ἀπὸ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ἐνεφύσησεν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ πνοὴν ζωη̃ς καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἄνθρωπος εἰς ψυχὴν ζω̃σαν (Ⅲ)

- Formavit igitur Dominus Deus hominem de limo terræ, et inspiravit in faciem ejus spiraculum vitæ, et factus est homo in animam viventem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃2 וייצר יהוה אלהים את האדם עפר מן האדמה ויפח באפיו נשמת חיים ויהי האדם לנפש חיה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 8

And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

- Puis l'Éternel Dieu planta un jardin en Éden, du côté de l'orient, et il y mit l'homme qu'il avait formé. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐφύτευσεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς παράδεισον ἐν Εδεμ κατὰ ἀνατολὰς καὶ ἔθετο ἐκει̃ τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ἔπλασεν (Ⅲ)

- Plantaverat autem Dominus Deus paradisum voluptatis a principio, in quo posuit hominem quem formaverat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃2 ויטע יהוה אלהים גן בעדן מקדם וישם שם את האדם אשר יצר ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 9

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

- L'Éternel Dieu fit pousser du sol des arbres de toute espèce, agréables à voir et bons à manger, et l'arbre de la vie au milieu du jardin, et l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξανέτειλεν ὁ θεὸς ἔτι ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς πα̃ν ξύλον ὡραι̃ον εἰς ὅρασιν καὶ καλὸν εἰς βρω̃σιν καὶ τὸ ξύλον τη̃ς ζωη̃ς ἐν μέσω̨ τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ καὶ τὸ ξύλον του̃ εἰδέναι γνωστὸν καλου̃ καὶ πονηρου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Produxitque Dominus Deus de humo omne lignum pulchrum visu, et ad vescendum suave lignum etiam vitæ in medio paradisi, lignumque scientiæ boni et mali. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃2 ויצמח יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל עץ נחמד למראה וטוב למאכל ועץ החיים בתוך הגן ועץ הדעת טוב ורע ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 10

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

- Un fleuve sortait d'Éden pour arroser le jardin, et de là il se divisait en quatre bras. (Ⅱ)

- ποταμὸς δὲ ἐκπορεύεται ἐξ Εδεμ ποτίζειν τὸν παράδεισον ἐκει̃θεν ἀφορίζεται εἰς τέσσαρας ἀρχάς (Ⅲ)

- Et fluvius egrediebatur de loco voluptatis ad irrigandum paradisum, qui inde dividitur in quatuor capita. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃2 ונהר‪[p]‬ יצא מעדן להשקות את הגן ומשם יפרד והיה לארבעה ראשים ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 11

The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

- Le nom du premier est Pischon; c'est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Havila, où se trouve l'or. (Ⅱ)

- ὄνομα τω̨̃ ἑνὶ Φισων οὑ̃τος ὁ κυκλω̃ν πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν Ευιλατ ἐκει̃ οὑ̃ ἐστιν τὸ χρυσίον (Ⅲ)

- Nomen uni Phison : ipse est qui circuit omnem terram Hevilath, ubi nascitur aurum : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃2 שם האחד פישון הוא הסבב את כל ארץ החוילה אשר שם הזהב ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 12

And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

- L'or de ce pays est pur; on y trouve aussi le bdellium et la pierre d'onyx. (Ⅱ)

- τὸ δὲ χρυσίον τη̃ς γη̃ς ἐκείνης καλόν καὶ ἐκει̃ ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθραξ καὶ ὁ λίθος ὁ πράσινος (Ⅲ)

- et aurum terræ illius optimum est ; ibi invenitur bdellium, et lapis onychinus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃2 וזהב הארץ ההוא טוב שם הבדלח ואבן השהם ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 13

And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

- Le nom du second fleuve est Guihon; c'est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Cusch. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὄνομα τω̨̃ ποταμω̨̃ τω̨̃ δευτέρω̨ Γηων οὑ̃τος ὁ κυκλω̃ν πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν Αἰθιοπίας (Ⅲ)

- Et nomen fluvii secundi Gehon ; ipse est qui circumit omnem terram Æthiopiæ. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃2 ושם הנהר השני גיחון הוא הסובב את כל ארץ כוש ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 14

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

- Le nom du troisième est Hiddékel; c'est celui qui coule à l'orient de l'Assyrie. Le quatrième fleuve, c'est l'Euphrate. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὁ ποταμὸς ὁ τρίτος Τίγρις οὑ̃τος ὁ πορευόμενος κατέναντι 'Ασσυρίων ὁ δὲ ποταμὸς ὁ τέταρτος οὑ̃τος Εὐφράτης (Ⅲ)

- Nomen vero fluminis tertii, Tigris : ipse vadit contra Assyrios. Fluvius autem quartus, ipse est Euphrates. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃2 ושם הנהר השלישי חדקל הוא ההלך קדמת אשור והנהר הרביעי הוא פרת ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 15

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

- L'Éternel Dieu prit l'homme, et le plaça dans le jardin d'Éden pour le cultiver et pour le garder. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ἔπλασεν καὶ ἔθετο αὐτὸν ἐν τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ ἐργάζεσθαι αὐτὸν καὶ φυλάσσειν (Ⅲ)

- Tulit ergo Dominus Deus hominem, et posuit eum in paradiso voluptatis, ut operaretur, et custodiret illum : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃2 ויקח יהוה אלהים את האדם וינחהו בגן עדן לעבדה ולשמרה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 16

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

- L'Éternel Dieu donna cet ordre à l'homme: Tu pourras manger de tous les arbres du jardin; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνετείλατο κύριος ὁ θεὸς τω̨̃ Αδαμ λέγων ἀπὸ παντὸς ξύλου του̃ ἐν τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ βρώσει φάγη̨ (Ⅲ)

- præcepitque ei, dicens : Ex omni ligno paradisi comede ; (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃2 ויצו יהוה אלהים על האדם לאמר מכל עץ הגן אכל תאכל ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 17

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

- mais tu ne mangeras pas de l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, car le jour où tu en mangeras, tu mourras. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπὸ δὲ του̃ ξύλου του̃ γινώσκειν καλὸν καὶ πονηρόν οὐ φάγεσθε ἀπ' αὐτου̃ ἡ̨̃ δ' ἂν ἡμέρα̨ φάγητε ἀπ' αὐτου̃ θανάτω̨ ἀποθανει̃σθε (Ⅲ)

- de ligno autem scientiæ boni et mali ne comedas : in quocumque enim die comederis ex eo, morte morieris. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃2 ומעץ הדעת טוב ורע לא תאכל ממנו כי ביום אכלך ממנו מות תמות ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 18

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

- L'Éternel Dieu dit: Il n'est pas bon que l'homme soit seul; je lui ferai une aide semblable à lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος ὁ θεός οὐ καλὸν εἰ̃ναι τὸν ἄνθρωπον μόνον ποιήσωμεν αὐτω̨̃ βοηθὸν κατ' αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Dixit quoque Dominus Deus : Non est bonum esse hominem solum : faciamus ei adjutorium simile sibi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃2 ויאמר יהוה אלהים לא טוב היות האדם לבדו אעשה לו‪[1]‬ עזר כנגדו ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 19

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

- L'Éternel Dieu forma de la terre tous les animaux des champs et tous les oiseaux du ciel, et il les fit venir vers l'homme, pour voir comment il les appellerait, et afin que tout être vivant portât le nom que lui donnerait l'homme. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔπλασεν ὁ θεὸς ἔτι ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς πάντα τὰ θηρία του̃ ἀγρου̃ καὶ πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὰ πρὸς τὸν Αδαμ ἰδει̃ν τί καλέσει αὐτά καὶ πα̃ν ὃ ἐὰν ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ Αδαμ ψυχὴν ζω̃σαν του̃το ὄνομα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Formatis igitur Dominus Deus de humo cunctis animantibus terræ, et universis volatilibus cæli, adduxit ea ad Adam, ut videret quid vocaret ea : omne enim quod vocavit Adam animæ viventis, ipsum est nomen ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃2 ויצר יהוה אלהים מן האדמה כל חית השדה ואת כל עוף השמים ויבא אל האדם לראות מה יקרא לו וכל אשר יקרא לו האדם נפש חיה הוא שמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 20

And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

- Et l'homme donna des noms à tout le bétail, aux oiseaux du ciel et à tous les animaux des champs; mais, pour l'homme, il ne trouva point d'aide semblable à lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αδαμ ὀνόματα πα̃σιν τοι̃ς κτήνεσιν καὶ πα̃σι τοι̃ς πετεινοι̃ς του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ πα̃σι τοι̃ς θηρίοις του̃ ἀγρου̃ τω̨̃ δὲ Αδαμ οὐχ εὑρέθη βοηθὸς ὅμοιος αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Appellavitque Adam nominibus suis cuncta animantia, et universa volatilia cæli, et omnes bestias terræ : Adæ vero non inveniebatur adjutor similis ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃2 ויקרא האדם שמות לכל הבהמה ולעוף השמים ולכל חית השדה ולאדם לא מצא עזר כנגדו ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 21

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

- Alors l'Éternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, qui s'endormit; il prit une de ses côtes, et referma la chair à sa place. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ὁ θεὸς ἔκστασιν ἐπὶ τὸν Αδαμ καὶ ὕπνωσεν καὶ ἔλαβεν μίαν τω̃ν πλευρω̃ν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἀνεπλήρωσεν σάρκα ἀντ' αὐτη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Immisit ergo Dominus Deus soporem in Adam : cumque obdormisset, tulit unam de costis ejus, et replevit carnem pro ea. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃2 ויפל יהוה אלהים תרדמה על האדם ויישן ויקח אחת מצלעתיו ויסגר בשר תחתנה ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 22

And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

- L'Éternel Dieu forma une femme de la côte qu'il avait prise de l'homme, et il l'amena vers l'homme. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὠ̨κοδόμησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὴν πλευράν ἣν ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ του̃ Αδαμ εἰς γυναι̃κα καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὴν πρὸς τὸν Αδαμ (Ⅲ)

- Et ædificavit Dominus Deus costam, quam tulerat de Adam, in mulierem : et adduxit eam ad Adam. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃2 ויבן יהוה אלהים את הצלע אשר לקח מן האדם לאשה ויבאה אל האדם ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 23

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

- Et l'homme dit: Voici cette fois celle qui est os de mes os et chair de ma chair! on l'appellera femme, parce qu'elle a été prise de l'homme. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Αδαμ του̃το νυ̃ν ὀστου̃ν ἐκ τω̃ν ὀστέων μου καὶ σὰρξ ἐκ τη̃ς σαρκός μου αὕτη κληθήσεται γυνή ὅτι ἐκ του̃ ἀνδρὸς αὐτη̃ς ἐλήμφθη αὕτη (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque Adam : Hoc nunc os ex ossibus meis, et caro de carne mea : hæc vocabitur Virago, quoniam de viro sumpta est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃2 ויאמר האדם זאת הפעם עצם מעצמי ובשר מבשרי לזאת יקרא אשה כי מאיש לקחה זאת ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 24

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

- C'est pourquoi l'homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s'attachera à sa femme, et ils deviendront une seule chair. (Ⅱ)

- ἕνεκεν τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα αὐτου̃ καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτου̃ καὶ προσκολληθήσεται πρὸς τὴν γυναι̃κα αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν (Ⅲ)

- Quam ob rem relinquet homo patrem suum, et matrem, et adhærebit uxori suæ : et erunt duo in carne una. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃2 על כן יעזב איש את אביו ואת אמו ודבק באשתו והיו לבשר אחד ‬ (Ⅴ)

2. 25

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

- L'homme et sa femme étaient tous deux nus, et ils n'en avaient point honte. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃σαν οἱ δύο γυμνοί ὅ τε Αδαμ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐκ ἠ̨σχύνοντο (Ⅲ)

- Erat autem uterque nudus, Adam scilicet et uxor ejus : et non erubescebant. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃2 ויהיו שניהם ערומים האדם ואשתו ולא יתבששו ‬ (Ⅴ)
