Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
- Le serpent était le plus rusé de tous les animaux des champs, que l'Éternel Dieu avait faits. Il dit à la femme: Dieu a-t-il réellement dit: Vous ne mangerez pas de tous les arbres du jardin? (Ⅱ) - ὁ δὲ ὄφις ἠ̃ν φρονιμώτατος πάντων τω̃ν θηρίων τω̃ν ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς ὡ̃ν ἐποίησεν κύριος ὁ θεός καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ὄφις τη̨̃ γυναικί τί ὅτι εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεός οὐ μὴ φάγητε ἀπὸ παντὸς ξύλου του̃ ἐν τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ (Ⅲ) - Sed et serpens erat callidior cunctis animantibus terræ quæ fecerat Dominus Deus. Qui dixit ad mulierem : Cur præcepit vobis Deus ut non comederetis de omni ligno paradisi ? (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃3 והנחש היה ערום מכל חית השדה אשר עשה יהוה אלהים ויאמר אל האשה אף כי אמר אלהים לא תאכלו מכל עץ הגן (Ⅴ)

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
- La femme répondit au serpent: Nous mangeons du fruit des arbres du jardin. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἡ γυνὴ τω̨̃ ὄφει ἀπὸ καρπου̃ ξύλου του̃ παραδείσου φαγόμεθα (Ⅲ) - Cui respondit mulier : De fructu lignorum, quæ sunt in paradiso, vescimur : (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃3 ותאמר האשה אל הנחש מפרי עץ הגן נאכל (Ⅴ)

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
- Mais quant au fruit de l'arbre qui est au milieu du jardin, Dieu a dit: Vous n'en mangerez point et vous n'y toucherez point, de peur que vous ne mouriez. (Ⅱ) - ἀπὸ δὲ καρπου̃ του̃ ξύλου ὅ ἐστιν ἐν μέσω̨ του̃ παραδείσου εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεός οὐ φάγεσθε ἀπ' αὐτου̃ οὐδὲ μὴ ἅψησθε αὐτου̃ ἵνα μὴ ἀποθάνητε (Ⅲ) - de fructu vero ligni quod est in medio paradisi, præcepit nobis Deus ne comederemus, et ne tangeremus illud, ne forte moriamur. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃3 ומפרי העץ אשר בתוך הגן אמר אלהים לא תאכלו ממנו ולא תגעו בו פן תמתון (Ⅴ)

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
- Alors le serpent dit à la femme: Vous ne mourrez point; (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ὄφις τη̨̃ γυναικί οὐ θανάτω̨ ἀποθανει̃σθε (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem serpens ad mulierem : Nequaquam morte moriemini. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃3 ויאמר הנחש אל האשה לא מות תמתון (Ⅴ)

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
- mais Dieu sait que, le jour où vous en mangerez, vos yeux s'ouvriront, et que vous serez comme des dieux, connaissant le bien et le mal. (Ⅱ) - ἤ̨δει γὰρ ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἐν ἡ̨̃ ἂν ἡμέρα̨ φάγητε ἀπ' αὐτου̃ διανοιχθήσονται ὑμω̃ν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί καὶ ἔσεσθε ὡς θεοὶ γινώσκοντες καλὸν καὶ πονηρόν (Ⅲ) - Scit enim Deus quod in quocumque die comederitis ex eo, aperientur oculi vestri, et eritis sicut dii, scientes bonum et malum. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃3 כי ידע אלהים כי ביום אכלכם ממנו ונפקחו עיניכם והייתם כאלהים ידעי טוב ורע (Ⅴ)

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
- La femme vit que l'arbre était bon à manger et agréable à la vue, et qu'il était précieux pour ouvrir l'intelligence; elle prit de son fruit, et en mangea; elle en donna aussi à son mari, qui était auprès d'elle, et il en mangea. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃δεν ἡ γυνὴ ὅτι καλὸν τὸ ξύλον εἰς βρω̃σιν καὶ ὅτι ἀρεστὸν τοι̃ς ὀφθαλμοι̃ς ἰδει̃ν καὶ ὡραι̃όν ἐστιν του̃ κατανοη̃σαι καὶ λαβου̃σα του̃ καρπου̃ αὐτου̃ ἔφαγεν καὶ ἔδωκεν καὶ τω̨̃ ἀνδρὶ αὐτη̃ς μετ' αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἔφαγον (Ⅲ) - Vidit igitur mulier quod bonum esset lignum ad vescendum, et pulchrum oculis, aspectuque delectabile : et tulit de fructu illius, et comedit : deditque viro suo, qui comedit. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃3 ותרא האשה כי טוב העץ למאכל וכי תאוה הוא לעינים ונחמד העץ להשכיל ותקח מפריו ותאכל ותתן גם לאישה עמה ויאכל (Ⅴ)

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
- Les yeux de l'un et de l'autre s'ouvrirent, ils connurent qu'ils étaient nus, et ayant cousu des feuilles de figuier, ils s'en firent des ceintures. (Ⅱ) - καὶ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τω̃ν δύο καὶ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι γυμνοὶ ἠ̃σαν καὶ ἔρραψαν φύλλα συκη̃ς καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοι̃ς περιζώματα (Ⅲ) - Et aperti sunt oculi amborum ; cumque cognovissent se esse nudos, consuerunt folia ficus, et fecerunt sibi perizomata. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃3 ותפקחנה עיני שניהם וידעו כי עירמם הם ויתפרו עלה תאנה ויעשו להם חגרת (Ⅴ)

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
- Alors ils entendirent la voix de l'Éternel Dieu, qui parcourait le jardin vers le soir, et l'homme et sa femme se cachèrent loin de la face de l'Éternel Dieu, au milieu des arbres du jardin. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἤκουσαν τὴν φωνὴν κυρίου του̃ θεου̃ περιπατου̃ντος ἐν τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ τὸ δειλινόν καὶ ἐκρύβησαν ὅ τε Αδαμ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτου̃ ἀπὸ προσώπου κυρίου του̃ θεου̃ ἐν μέσω̨ του̃ ξύλου του̃ παραδείσου (Ⅲ) - Et cum audissent vocem Domini Dei deambulantis in paradiso ad auram post meridiem, abscondit se Adam et uxor ejus a facie Domini Dei in medio ligni paradisi. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃3 וישמעו את קול יהוה אלהים מתהלך בגן לרוח היום ויתחבא האדם ואשתו מפני יהוה אלהים בתוך עץ הגן (Ⅴ)

And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
- Mais l'Éternel Dieu appela l'homme, et lui dit: Où es-tu? (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐκάλεσεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν Αδαμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Αδαμ που̃ εἰ̃ (Ⅲ) - Vocavitque Dominus Deus Adam, et dixit ei : Ubi es ? (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃3 ויקרא יהוה אלהים אל האדם ויאמר לו איכה (Ⅴ)

And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
- Il répondit: J'ai entendu ta voix dans le jardin, et j'ai eu peur, parce que je suis nu, et je me suis caché. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ τὴν φωνήν σου ἤκουσα περιπατου̃ντος ἐν τω̨̃ παραδείσω̨ καὶ ἐφοβήθην ὅτι γυμνός εἰμι καὶ ἐκρύβην (Ⅲ) - Qui ait : Vocem tuam audivi in paradiso, et timui, eo quod nudus essem, et abscondi me. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃3 ויאמר את קלך שמעתי בגן ואירא כי עירם אנכי ואחבא (Ⅴ)

And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
- Et l'Éternel Dieu dit: Qui t'a appris que tu es nu? Est-ce que tu as mangé de l'arbre dont je t'avais défendu de manger? (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ τίς ἀνήγγειλέν σοι ὅτι γυμνὸς εἰ̃ μὴ ἀπὸ του̃ ξύλου οὑ̃ ἐνετειλάμην σοι τούτου μόνου μὴ φαγει̃ν ἀπ' αὐτου̃ ἔφαγες (Ⅲ) - Cui dixit : Quis enim indicavit tibi quod nudus esses, nisi quod ex ligno de quo præceperam tibi ne comederes, comedisti ? (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃3 ויאמר מי הגיד לך כי עירם אתה המן העץ אשר צויתיך לבלתי אכל ממנו אכלת (Ⅴ)

And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
- L'homme répondit: La femme que tu as mise auprès de moi m'a donné de l'arbre, et j'en ai mangé. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ Αδαμ ἡ γυνή ἣν ἔδωκας μετ' ἐμου̃ αὕτη μοι ἔδωκεν ἀπὸ του̃ ξύλου καὶ ἔφαγον (Ⅲ) - Dixitque Adam : Mulier, quam dedisti mihi sociam, dedit mihi de ligno, et comedi. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃3 ויאמר האדם האשה אשר נתתה עמדי הוא נתנה לי מן העץ ואכל (Ⅴ)

And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
- Et l'Éternel Dieu dit à la femme: Pourquoi as-tu fait cela? La femme répondit: Le serpent m'a séduite, et j'en ai mangé. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τη̨̃ γυναικί τί του̃το ἐποίησας καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἡ γυνή ὁ ὄφις ἠπάτησέν με καὶ ἔφαγον (Ⅲ) - Et dixit Dominus Deus ad mulierem : Quare hoc fecisti ? Quæ respondit : Serpens decepit me, et comedi.\ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃3 ויאמר יהוה אלהים לאשה מה זאת עשית ותאמר האשה הנחש השיאני ואכל (Ⅴ)

And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
- L'Éternel Dieu dit au serpent: Puisque tu as fait cela, tu seras maudit entre tout le bétail et entre tous les animaux des champs, tu marcheras sur ton ventre, et tu mangeras de la poussière tous les jours de ta vie. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τω̨̃ ὄφει ὅτι ἐποίησας του̃το ἐπικατάρατος σὺ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν κτηνω̃ν καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν θηρίων τη̃ς γη̃ς ἐπὶ τω̨̃ στήθει σου καὶ τη̨̃ κοιλία̨ πορεύση̨ καὶ γη̃ν φάγη̨ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τη̃ς ζωη̃ς σου (Ⅲ) - Et ait Dominus Deus ad serpentem : [Quia fecisti hoc,/ maledictus es inter omnia animantia, et bestias terræ :/ super pectus tuum gradieris, et terram comedes cunctis diebus vitæ tuæ./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃3 ויאמר יהוה אלהים אל הנחש כי עשית זאת ארור אתה מכל הבהמה ומכל חית השדה על גחנך תלך ועפר תאכל כל ימי חייך (Ⅴ)

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
- Je mettrai inimitié entre toi et la femme, entre ta postérité et sa postérité: celle-ci t'écrasera la tête, et tu lui blesseras le talon. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔχθραν θήσω ἀνὰ μέσον σου καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τη̃ς γυναικὸς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ σπέρματός σου καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ σπέρματος αὐτη̃ς αὐτός σου τηρήσει κεφαλήν καὶ σὺ τηρήσεις αὐτου̃ πτέρναν (Ⅲ) - Inimicitias ponam inter te et mulierem,/ et semen tuum et semen illius :/ ipsa conteret caput tuum,/ et tu insidiaberis calcaneo ejus.] (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃3 ואיבה אשית בינך ובין האשה ובין זרעך ובין זרעה הוא ישופך ראש ואתה תשופנו עקב ס (Ⅴ)

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
- Il dit à la femme: J'augmenterai la souffrance de tes grossesses, tu enfanteras avec douleur, et tes désirs se porteront vers ton mari, mais il dominera sur toi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τη̨̃ γυναικὶ εἰ̃πεν πληθύνων πληθυνω̃ τὰς λύπας σου καὶ τὸν στεναγμόν σου ἐν λύπαις τέξη̨ τέκνα καὶ πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα σου ἡ ἀποστροφή σου καὶ αὐτός σου κυριεύσει (Ⅲ) - Mulieri quoque dixit : Multiplicabo ærumnas tuas, et conceptus tuos : in dolore paries filios, et sub viri potestate eris, et ipse dominabitur tui. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃3 אל האשה אמר הרבה ארבה עצבונך והרנך בעצב תלדי בנים ואל אישך תשוקתך והוא ימשל בך ס (Ⅴ)

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
- Il dit à l'homme: Puisque tu as écouté la voix de ta femme, et que tu as mangé de l'arbre au sujet duquel je t'avais donné cet ordre: Tu n'en mangeras point! le sol sera maudit à cause de toi. C'est à force de peine que tu en tireras ta nourriture tous les jours de ta vie, (Ⅱ) - τω̨̃ δὲ Αδαμ εἰ̃πεν ὅτι ἤκουσας τη̃ς φωνη̃ς τη̃ς γυναικός σου καὶ ἔφαγες ἀπὸ του̃ ξύλου οὑ̃ ἐνετειλάμην σοι τούτου μόνου μὴ φαγει̃ν ἀπ' αὐτου̃ ἐπικατάρατος ἡ γη̃ ἐν τοι̃ς ἔργοις σου ἐν λύπαις φάγη̨ αὐτὴν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τη̃ς ζωη̃ς σου (Ⅲ) - Adæ vero dixit : Quia audisti vocem uxoris tuæ, et comedisti de ligno, ex quo præceperam tibi ne comederes, maledicta terra in opere tuo : in laboribus comedes ex ea cunctis diebus vitæ tuæ. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃3 ולאדם אמר כי שמעת[c] לקול אשתך ותאכל מן העץ אשר צויתיך לאמר לא תאכל ממנו ארורה האדמה בעבורך בעצבון תאכלנה כל ימי חייך (Ⅴ)

Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
- il te produira des épines et des ronces, et tu mangeras de l'herbe des champs. (Ⅱ) - ἀκάνθας καὶ τριβόλους ἀνατελει̃ σοι καὶ φάγη̨ τὸν χόρτον του̃ ἀγρου̃ (Ⅲ) - Spinas et tribulos germinabit tibi, et comedes herbam terræ. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃3 וקוץ ודרדר תצמיח לך ואכלת את עשב השדה (Ⅴ)

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
- C'est à la sueur de ton visage que tu mangeras du pain, jusqu'à ce que tu retournes dans la terre, d'où tu as été pris; car tu es poussière, et tu retourneras dans la poussière. (Ⅱ) - ἐν ἱδρω̃τι του̃ προσώπου σου φάγη̨ τὸν ἄρτον σου ἕως του̃ ἀποστρέψαι σε εἰς τὴν γη̃ν ἐξ ἡ̃ς ἐλήμφθης ὅτι γη̃ εἰ̃ καὶ εἰς γη̃ν ἀπελεύση̨ (Ⅲ) - In sudore vultus tui vesceris pane, donec revertaris in terram de qua sumptus es : quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃3 בזעת אפיך תאכל לחם עד שובך אל האדמה כי ממנה לקחת כי עפר אתה ואל עפר תשוב (Ⅴ)

And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
- Adam donna à sa femme le nom d'Eve: car elle a été la mère de tous les vivants. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αδαμ τὸ ὄνομα τη̃ς γυναικὸς αὐτου̃ Ζωή ὅτι αὕτη μήτηρ πάντων τω̃ν ζώντων (Ⅲ) - Et vocavit Adam nomen uxoris suæ, Heva : eo quod mater esset cunctorum viventium. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃3 ויקרא האדם שם אשתו חוה כי הוא היתה אם כל חי (Ⅴ)

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
- L'Éternel Dieu fit à Adam et à sa femme des habits de peau, et il les en revêtit. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τω̨̃ Αδαμ καὶ τη̨̃ γυναικὶ αὐτου̃ χιτω̃νας δερματίνους καὶ ἐνέδυσεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Fecit quoque Dominus Deus Adæ et uxori ejus tunicas pelliceas, et induit eos : (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃3 ויעש יהוה אלהים לאדם ולאשתו כתנות עור וילבשם פ (Ⅴ)

And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
- L'Éternel Dieu dit: Voici, l'homme est devenu comme l'un de nous, pour la connaissance du bien et du mal. Empêchons-le maintenant d'avancer sa main, de prendre de l'arbre de vie, d'en manger, et de vivre éternellement. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεός ἰδοὺ Αδαμ γέγονεν ὡς εἱ̃ς ἐξ ἡμω̃ν του̃ γινώσκειν καλὸν καὶ πονηρόν καὶ νυ̃ν μήποτε ἐκτείνη̨ τὴν χει̃ρα καὶ λάβη̨ του̃ ξύλου τη̃ς ζωη̃ς καὶ φάγη̨ καὶ ζήσεται εἰς τὸν αἰω̃να (Ⅲ) - et ait : Ecce Adam quasi unus ex nobis factus est, sciens bonum et malum : nunc ergo ne forte mittat manum suam, et sumat etiam de ligno vitæ, et comedat, et vivat in æternum. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃3 ויאמר יהוה אלהים הן האדם היה כאחד ממנו לדעת טוב ורע ועתה פן ישלח ידו ולקח גם מעץ החיים ואכל וחי לעלם (Ⅴ)

Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
- Et l'Éternel Dieu le chassa du jardin d'Éden, pour qu'il cultivât la terre, d'où il avait été pris. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτὸν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐκ του̃ παραδείσου τη̃ς τρυφη̃ς ἐργάζεσθαι τὴν γη̃ν ἐξ ἡ̃ς ἐλήμφθη (Ⅲ) - Et emisit eum Dominus Deus de paradiso voluptatis, ut operaretur terram de qua sumptus est. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃3 וישלחהו יהוה אלהים מגן עדן לעבד את האדמה אשר לקח משם (Ⅴ)

So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
- C'est ainsi qu'il chassa Adam; et il mit à l'orient du jardin d'Éden les chérubins qui agitent une épée flamboyante, pour garder le chemin de l'arbre de vie. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξέβαλεν τὸν Αδαμ καὶ κατώ̨κισεν αὐτὸν ἀπέναντι του̃ παραδείσου τη̃ς τρυφη̃ς καὶ ἔταξεν τὰ χερουβιμ καὶ τὴν φλογίνην ῥομφαίαν τὴν στρεφομένην φυλάσσειν τὴν ὁδὸν του̃ ξύλου τη̃ς ζωη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Ejecitque Adam : et collocavit ante paradisum voluptatis cherubim, et flammeum gladium, atque versatilem, ad custodiendam viam ligni vitæ. (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃3 ויגרש את האדם וישכן מקדם לגן עדן את הכרבים ואת להט החרב המתהפכת לשמר את דרך עץ החיים ס (Ⅴ)
